This does offer different compression options (See 'Options') but the size of the estimated backup does not change as you change the option.

I've not tried to see what the actual difference is.

(By comparison, Paragon Drive Backup gets the initial backup size estimate about right, and changes this with compression chosen, but fails on backup size estimation on incremental backups)

#97, Stephen Cohen, I really used to like the features in GoBack, but it always had performance issues and always had to boot first to ensure that its drivers were loaded before Windows. RollBack Rx may have been a giveaway, and was just on BDJ. It functions similarly to GoBack, as do a few other utilities, and supports Win7. No utilities have all of the features that GoBack did, but they also don't have the history limits of GoBack. I've gone to near-continuous backup plus System Restore, which gives me greater coverage than GoBack (which also supported System Restore) with no performance impact, no MBR modification, no pre-Windows drivers, and no data corruption risks. I can get logs which have a portion of the information of GoBack logs from security software.

#98, BrainGel, sometimes I prefer third-party tools myself, which is why I use ShadowProtect Desktop rather than Win7's built-in backup (but it does have cool features, like Previous Versions). You do miss out on a lot of the features in newer versions of Windows, and if you tried Win7 with an SSD, you might not view them as bloat. Win7 with an SSD is the first time that I've felt like any version of Windows performed well. My RAID array is nice for recorded TV and backup-related performance, but all of the rest of the performance is due to my SSD.

EASEUS is solution provider in data security field. The functions of its products are for sure powerful and capable. But as to the setback, the software GUI is I have say too normal. Great Software Product = Great UE + Great Functions! And user experience is the primary impression left in the mind. So find more capable designers to do this. hah.

Back to topic, this Todo Backup tool is definitely fantastic. For genera users, I'll recommend home edition as it is completely freeware. I am right using it and the disk clone function is indeed easy to use and quite convenient to back the whole data up. :)

@Fubar,
It's clear I took it differently, but #80 is fair enough to me.
But "losing out" is not my feeling about it. I'm actually very happy to be able to install third party tools, prefering these over native Windows tools, because many times "decent" is just not enough. Third party does not mean third class.
All the Windows tools that I do not use feel to me as bloat. For me XP is less bloated. We might not share the same opinion, but then again we make our own choises.

uninstalled due to wanting me to turn the computer off then on after installing. none of my other programs wanted me to do this after being installed.
also will run whenever you turn the computer on then wanted to add itself to the taskbar. i tell the computer what to run and when. the program does not have permission to run itself when it decides to. why put something on the taskbar when you have an icon on the desktop already.

To #48 denk, the WinPE bootable disk is provided in some paid editions, know more about this kind of bootable disk, you may refer to:

For another feature “Partition alignment”, we are sorry we don’t have such a tool in our product for now. But we will consider add this feature, as it is really useful for some particular case. Thanks.

I've used Paragon, Easeus, and Macrium Reflect, all free versions, and of the three, I prefer Reflect by far, though Paragon was my preference until the latest versions of reflect actually worked during restore.

But Easeus saved me from a bad crash about six months ago. It was the only backup I had of a Win 7 clean install. I did have a Paragon backup of a Vista to Win 7 upgrade, if I needed it though.

That was my first use of Easeus, and though it worked flawlessly (as Paragon always has) it was slower than molasses during restore. Paragon would take about an hour. Easeus took at least four. I have since found that Macrium Reflect is way faster than either Easeus or Paragon, both in backup and restoring, and its backup size is way smaller. Reflect restores my system in twenty minutes.

Easeus 2.5 Home Free is now close to Reflect in size of archive and speed of backing up, but I haven't yet had to use it to restore my system.

So I'm sticking with Reflect since there's no reason to change.

@#77 James: Backup programs like Easus comes with a tool to create a boot CD. After a crash, use this boot CD to reinstall partitions or discs saved as image files. Always save the image file to HDD separated from the one you want to backup (a seperate internal HDD or an external USB HDD) It is a good idea to test this function - without actually reinstalling- as soon as you made the boot CD.

@Graham #57, a simple way to backup your hardrive and be able to access the folders is to use 7zip (free) or some other compression program. You can access and extract individual files, but it doesn't take up as much space as the original files. You can also zip directory trees separately, for example, put your music separate from your documents.

The drawback is that it's not automatic -- you would need to set up a batch file. We have a batch file that zips our most crucial directories every night.

anyway, I did bought the software cause I was previously using its free version and it was great, I do recommend this program cause is fast, reliable, and so far is the best solution Ive tried, not like that STUPID NORTON SHIT.

I restored my computer (27GB partition)and it took only 14mins to do it

@#59 Graham. You can use the MOUNT function in Easeus. (Even in the free version). The backup image becomes a virtual drive (a new drive with its own drive letter in the drive list in Explorer) you can access it as if it was a physical drive. There is no risk of destroying the files in the image. To close the image file you just choose UNMOUNT in Easeus.

#54, BrainGel, read what I wrote. XP users continually have to add third-party utilities to attempt to do some of the things that later versions of Windows can do already. Windows 7 already has a decent backup solution, not the greatest, but not bad, with some nice features.

#59, Graham, there are a number of backup utilities which can do what you want. mike says that Paragon is unreliable when doing that, and I don't think that it integrates with Windows Explorer. ShadowProtect Desktop does that quickly, easily, and reliably. The quickest way is simply to right-click a backup image and select "Quick Mount". ShadowProtect will mount the image and all dependencies as a virtual drive with the next available drive letter and open Windows Explorer on that drive. You then have normal read access to the files in that image (using the full Mount, you can even open the backup image as writable and ShadowProtect will branch the image chain if necessary and write a new backup image when you Dismount). When you're done, you can simply right click any file/folder in that Windows Explorer instance and select "Quick Dismount", ShadowProtect will dismount the virtual drive and close the Explorer window (if you've already closed it, simply right-click the virtual drive in any Explorer window and select "Quick Dismount"). The full Mount and Dismount commands have more features. As with any decent backup tool, ShadowProtect can create encrypted backups, you would simply supply the password when mounting the image (chain) as a virtual volume (or path, if you do a full Mount). As always, backups must be on another volume than the one you're backing up (and it wouldn't make sense to backup to the same drive). Unless you have a large image chain, ShadowProtect mounts images relatively quickly, and you can mount large virtual volumes with negligible impact on resources (of course, if you mount the image as writeable, there has to be enough free disk space to buffer any changes).

When backup programs like Acronis, Easeus, Paragon or Easeus fails it may help to run check disc to make sure the file system of yor computer is OK. If it is not check disc repairs the system. For XP the link is:

It takes some time complete so make yourself a cup of tea.

#53: "Is EaseUs/CHENGDU YIWO Tech Development a daughter of a Taiwan Company (trustworthy) or of a Red Chinese one? Some people would be afraid to give their data directly to Red Chinese Military Intelligence!"

Welll... reading today how the US gov apparently pressured the NZ gov into more on-line "oversight". Also read how the wiki-leaks guy feels a great many US companies, from Facebook to Google aid government intelligence agencies. And the other day I saw where the NSA wants you to run win7 instead of XP.

Don't know how much of that, or if any for that matter is 100% true, but point is I see no reason to single out 1 gov & ignore others. And of course never ignore the bad guys. If you've got sensitive data it should be encrypted, whether you're a biz or individual, & you should take whatever security precautions are appropriate, depending on the consequences should it get stolen.

When it comes to software, please bear in mind it's kinda like the cars sold here in the US... The Civic my wife drove to work has more American made parts than most American car models. Just cause there's an American name on the box or web site or whatever doesn't mean at least some of the code wasn't written somewhere else. I believe that even holds true for Windows. I feel much better that EASEUS is up front about it, rather than putting on a show with a US PO box as corp headquarters. :-)

#59: "Basically – if I back up my music, I want to be able to go into the back up and maybe select some MP3 files without having to reinstall everything back to my hard drive."

RE: backup images, with Paragon Backup apps you can mount the archive as a virtual drive & copy/paste to your heart's content. Todo Backup Pro lets you browse the archives without the separate mounting step, which is good because of less hassle, bad because if you don't do that very often, Windows is running extra stuff it doesn't need to be running.

You could also use a File Backup app, or just use 7-Zip, WinRAR, Zip or similar file compression... You'd be able to browse the compressed files, extracting just those you wanted. That said, while a backup or file compression app might make the archiving easier, grouping many mp3 files in a single archive, mp3 files are already compressed, so they're not going to save you the same amount of space as if say you were archiving Word Docs... could always just save them to the external drive to begin with, or cut/paste.

#61: "I believe that this giveaway does not include the WinPE capability. Soemone ask it atop the comments but same as the other Paragon software giveaways EASEUS doesn’t give the WinPE free in GAOTD becaus it’s freeware."

Per the EASEUS docs, the WinPE setup is only included in their commercial versions, not in the Pro, whether it's a GOTD or not.

A word to the wise: if you rely upon this to backup your system, make sure to *test* the backup before you need it. I didn't, I did, and it didn't (work, that is). Might have been me, but Paragon has never failed me. Won't be using Easus any time in the near future.

EASEUS is getting serious with Todo Backup Pro... It's a nice backup app with several interesting features that works well in the limited testing I've done so far, but I couldn't escape the feeling that it's still a bit immature, that it has to grow a ways to catch up to the more advanced features in Paragon & Acronis apps. Incremental backup & browsing backup archives really worked well -- I think browsing archives without explicitly mounting them as a virtual drive is very impressive -- & the *nix rescue disc seems nicely done. OTOH I don't care for the mandatory installation of the EASEUS boot loader, Todo Backup Pro won't work as-is to restore an archive without installing it, & I've got to either figure out how the backup to VHD [Virtual Hard Drive] works or it's broken [get a vhd that Win7 says is bad, + 2 addt'l files I've no idea what to do with].

Installing Todo Backup Pro means adding a bootloader -- your PC/laptop reads it 1st off the hard drive, then after a timeout goes ahead & starts the existing Windows boot menu & loader the same as beforehand... during that brief period you can start up something like the command line recovery environment you can get booting from a Wndows install CD/DVD. EASEUS calls it the pre-OS environment. While there's nothing really wrong with adding their bootloader that way, I personally don't like it -- because it sits on a part of the disk you can't easily access, that sort of thing can be challenging to get rid of if/when I decide I want it to go away, if it breaks or doesn't work properly etc. [BTW, the easiest way I've found to get rid of a *nix type loader is restoring an image backup of the 1st disk track, made using Paragon Backup's Backup Wizard].

Running Todo Backup Pro's setup also adds a handful of drivers, with 1 service you can access through Administrative Tools -> Services. You'll also see a new device in Device Mgr. under System Devices. Those drivers & services allow you to browse backup archives as if they were 1:1 file copies on another disk/partition, but they're also apparently required for restoring a backup to work. That means you either need Todo Backup installed, or you need to be able to use the *nix rescue disc. It **May** be possible to fairly easily get something working with a WinPE-type boot disc/USB device, setting it up so a 1st step to run the app installs just the drivers/services Restore needs to run -- doing it that way is not unheard of, & using a non-official WinPE or alternative could mean much easier/better driver support. That said Todo Backup Pro is a bit large with the program's folder taking up ~127 MB -- ~78 MB if you delete the [50 MB] rescue disc ISO after burning/saving a copy or two. Registering those drivers isn't too bad, with only ~250 new registry entries recorded.

I strongly believe in being able to "put things back", & I believe in so-called disaster preparedness. OTOH I don't believe you need or should put most of the focus on bad things that *might* happen if/when that takes time, resources, & attention away from doing whatever it is you do, & becoming better at it. To me that means I back critical data up ASAP, but Windows itself & installed apps usually once every week -- if it takes me an extra 1/2 hour to update a restored copy of Windows, to me that's better than spending 1/2 hour every day or every couple of days on something I hopefully will never use or need. Part of looking at it that way is I don't like added boot loaders that *might* save me a couple of minutes once, someday, when adding that bootloader robs me of a minute or two every day without fail. If I can get Todo Pro working without the bootloader, I like it enough, see enough potential that I'll play with it more & see where it might replace Paragon or Acronis apps, but otherwise probably not.

Charming!:) TY v.much. -- I would like to add that I bought various EASUS Software in the past (few computers back..) - and ironically some of it is "dead and buried" because..I didn't THINK (just that, period) to back it up in time. I often do what you want to do; I do it by creating a clone using a free program called MaxBlast it does have one requirement, it is that a Maxtor drive is on or attached (USB) to your system. Two points, I have never tried it with such a large drive, it may work with Seagate drives as they took over Maxtor. A very versatile and easy to use piece of software that I highly recommend.

I've uninstalled this one. I was able to install on XP Pro after shutting down Bit Defender, but then found that Todo Backup wouldn't run while Bit Defender was running. Other backup programs will run with Bit Defender. Even with Bit Defender disabled, Todo Backup hung more than once, and trying to use Explorer to look at what was on a bootable rescue disk built by Todo froze my system. I don't know if backup files written by Todo are any good, and I'm not going to put the boot disk in my drive again. The behavior of this program doesn't cause me to believe that the program will work when it is really needed. I've already got backup software that is much more predictable and reliable.

Cloudy99, aka #32, I have used Todo Backup Pro to make a backup image of a Windows 7 PC in our office. This machine is 32-bit and the backup image worked very well. I made an image of the machine before allowing a scanner vendor to make some changes to their software on this PC and was very glad I did. The changes hosed the application to the point that even uninstalling the program and reinstalling the old version we had before the new version was installed didn't work. We were only able to recover the system and have it ready for production work the next morning because I restored the image I made using EaseUs Todo Backup Pro.

EaseUs first landed on my radar when I needed some software to recover files from a bad drive. Their Disk Recovery Wizard was the best product I tried - and I tried almost a dozen - and recovered all of my files when I bought the full version (at a very reasonable price.) After that experience, I started looking at their other product offerings. I used their free version of Todo Backup with such good results at home that I then purchased Todo Backup Pro for two mission critical computers in our office. I've compared the feature set and price with competitors and have found that they are as good as or better than the competition and usually cost less or at least not more than their counterparts. I highly recommend Todo Backup Pro and have no reservation saying that Todo Backup Pro and Disk Recovery Wizard have placed EaseUs firmly on my list of trusted software vendors.

I love the Data Recovery Wizard! It and the Partition Master saved me! My external Hard Drive crashed, and the computer wouldn't even show it was there. Partition Master recovered the partition, then I used Data Recovery Wizard on it. It found ALL my files which I then moved to another drive. I then used Partition Master on it again, and remounted my HD, and moved my data back. All fine! My only complaints are when I found all my files, it showed little letters on some of the folders, that I eventually realized meant they were deleted and recovered, etc., but there is no mention of them in the help icon.
I used it on a Windows XP Pro 32 bit edition with SP3. I ahd no problem installing or using it. Great stuff!

I installed this software on a Windows XP Pro SP 3 computer without any problems. However, it made the Win XP computer inaccessible to other computers (both Mac and Windows PCs) on the office peer-to-peer network. I could see the other computers and access their files as normal, but they could not see the Win XP computer or access its files. Uninstalling this software fixed the problem.

I re-installed this software to see if what happened was a fluke, but the same problem returned. Again I fixed it by uninstalling this software.

While uninstalling it for the last time, it asked for feedback as to why I was uninstalling it. After typing in a detailed explanation, I clicked on Send, but it informed me it could not do it because I have not set up a MS Outlook profile. It then deleted my feedback and continued uninstalling itself.

I am not impressed.

What I would really like to do is be able to backup to my 2TB external hardrive and be able to access the folders from the 2TB drive, rather than have everything in coded/encrypted form.

Basically - if I back up my music, I want to be able to go into the back up and maybe select some MP3 files without having to reinstall everything back to my hard drive.

I understand that this might make my back up a bit vulnerable by accessing parts of it.

I am sure there are a lot of people here that would like to do this.

I would like to hear from someone that uses and can recommend a backup software that does this - tried and tested.

Thanks for any help you give me...

As for Acronis, I got the 2011 version on sale from Acronis for $29.99 (I believe), and got the Plus Pack for free, which includes the ability to do an universal restore to different hardware, and to build a PE XP, Vista or 7 bootable cd or usb. Also, if you have an existing PE created, then it can add itself to the PE.

And this version is fully compatible with Win7, which is why I bought it. The 2010 version wasn't fully compatible, so I couldn't trust it properly.

#43 - Big TU Mike:) for Your extensive (and comprehensive!) Help and Suggestions for my (or Folks elsewhere) "predicament" when dealing with limited Memory Resources to backup large Data (I know, now-a-days 600GB, might not be considered that big..:) -- Would like to thank Lukasz#27 too for His addressing my Q of "How and Where to Backup (Big-ish) external Drive when Free Memory is Limited on Other Drives".
When reading (at first) "..or just get a bigger hd" - I smiled, thinking I should just show it to some "little handies":).. who crashed my main "big PC" (with much bigger hd and.. everything locked happily in it ever since..) - hence my "slog" on what was available, and thank God for FreeAgent to make life bearable, lol.

EASUS Todo Backup Professional is a Definite KEEP! to see what can be done right now (including possibility of using free Storage that came with Windows Live) and when getting bigger HD. Thanks Mike, Lukasz and GAOTD for Your Great Offer and Help!

At the top of this website are the requirements:
System Requirements: Windows 2000 /XP/ Vista/ Windows 7.

I use XP (happy user, never problems), I tried and it works fine. Can I believe my eyes?

#26 'Rob.C' shares the same experience. So, I can believe my eyes!

#9 'Fubar', quote "As usual, XP users lose out."
It seems to me mr. fubar, you cannot believe your eyes now. May be we have to pinch your arm, XP-users didn't lose out (as usual I might add).

1=For #10:
EaseUs-Homepage restricts enclosed WinPE to the business variant (http://www.easeus.com/ liked to http://www.todo-backup.com/products/features/backup-bootableCD.htm) at the bottom-lines:
"3. WinPE based bootable disk is only provided to EASEUS Todo Backup business users, please choose the right version."
2 = F o r a l l : Is EaseUs/CHENGDU YIWO Tech Development a daughter of a Taiwan Company (trustworthy) or of a Red Chinese one? Some people would be afraid to give their data directly to Red Chinese Military Intelligence! Nearly all software dials home.
I remember that somebody had copied Terabytes of construction data of the latest American Fighter not yet constructed, and nobody knows who's done it. And that the PRC suprised the American Defence Minister visiting China with a stealth fighter equipped with rockets able to wipe away satelites.
3=Giveaway-Link "Publisher: CHENGDU YIWO Tech Development" is empty.

To me it´s a great giveaway today! - highly recommended for most users!!

But nevertheless there are some disadvantages, compared to DriveSnapshot (since years my very favourite imaging programm).
What´s so special with DriveSnapshot?
- its speed combined with a high compression rate
- it works driverless (yes - for the technicans: the virtual driver snapshod is installed - but just whilst DriveSnaphot is run) and thus can be run from any other secondary or desaster-recovery Windows installation (as e.g. all PE versions).
- it consists of just one single an small .exe file of ca. 270kb!
- no Windows restart is needed
- works with raid (hardware and software raid)
- up to 4 "images" can be mounted at any free drive letter
- everything can be run by batches/commanlines
- etc
to me it´s the most transparent programs of all imagers I know (and I know about a dozen pretty well...) an thus for me even knocks out Shadow protect (but which is also a great tool)

But to come back to today: get it if you don´t have to specific hardware or any other honest resons against it.
To me the only "stanard users" drawback is the pretty big size of the images compared to the best competitors - but for free it´s a great deal!!!
