Simple Pro and Con
Pro: Program works great. Hide/Unhide, Put a diff. drive letter w/o rebooting.

Con: When making a new partition, it hogs lots of time when you boot. Once it left a 70MB unallocated space which visually bugged me a lot.

To #90. If you uninstall the program or wipe the hard drive, you would have to run Setup again to install the program. However, the Setup package for this program will only be able to run through the setup process within the day that the program was given away. If Setup is run at any other time, upon the 'Setup' file wrapper notifying the giveaway site, no authorization will be given for 'Setup' to run and install the software. I know of a program that does the exact same thing as this giveaway's offering. Contact me dmbsoftware@yahoo.com.

Once you make a partition, you can use Windows Explorer to access the partition and use it to save files.

@83 Sark. I am not sure what you mean "I have a full ‘c’ 1 drive". If the drive is full you need to add an extra desk drive of course . Otherwise if you have enough empty space on your old drive you can create a new partition ‘d’ there. If you move your "My Documents" to the new partition your documents will not be overwritten if you have to reinstall Windows.
Also if you use a backup program like Paragon Drive Backup you can make an image file of your whole system and put it on the partition ‘d’. If your Windows installation later gets corrupted you can reinstall from the image file and get the whole system back with all your installed programs. I would prefer to have my image files on an extra (or external) hard disk however since you would still have problems if there is a hardware failure on the the first disk.

For 93.If you burn iso image on a separate cd and this cd work you can make an experiment to see if it work only from Boot CD.I didn't do that and remain posibility to lose program but in this case use free version or soft:Partition Wizard Home Edition from cnet,that is similar with this profesional tool and is free.It is your choice.I make only a sugestion in the case you lose soft.Also you can try to burn image iso from file bin from where is instaled with;CDBurnerXp,choice image iso,browse after iso image next Burn Cd,dvd.It will make a boot CD or DVD.Put CD in CD Rom etc and restart wit cd inside.If apper some from Eauseus and you can work from cd it mean that is good.I don't know if work because i didn't burn iso image yet.

@sark 83: yep, that's the idea of these partitioning programs: that they can push, slide and squeeze partitions around - with data on them. Usually very safe, but, of course....

Downloaded & installed on XP x32 SP3 with no trouble & it uninstalled the old v3.5 with no hassle in the process. Took the unzipped Setup.exe to a Win Vista x64 SP2 & it installed but improperly as it didn't have 2 necessary signed drivers. When the program came up it didn't find any hard drive. This problem could be because of a glitch that happened in the install process on my laptop under Vista - the install started before I wanted it to & then I got an error message. Uninstalled the program & re-downloaded the zip on vista x64, unzipped (BTW, got the problem stated in comment #91. Fixed that by unzipping the Setup.exe file to a specific place on the hard drive & running it from there.), installed again & this time everything was OK. Thumbs up.

Yes, the original OS disk can partition and format a disk, it is useful when you need to reinstall OS. But in this way the data on the disk will be lost. EASEUS Partition Master Professional Edition can repartition a disk without data loss.

If you encounter any problems in the function, we suggest you may directly create a bootable CD with your own CD-burning program, such as Nero. You may locate a file named "image.iso" in the "bin" folder under the installation directory.

Load up Nero Burning ROM, select Recorder-> Burn Image -> choose File image.iso.
In the Burn option, choose "Determine maximum speed" and "Write", then Burn.
Done.

Please close all the application before you shut down the computer.

previous Master 4.0 home ver 1.0.0.1 (31.2MB)

Could someone detail what we must do to save a copy of this to a different hard drive and still be able to use, if we have to wipe the main hard drive or reinstall the OS, including the program files where this installs; and still be able to use this utility we have already activated.
Think it is nolonger activated if we wipe and reinstall the OS with a fresh registry.

I found it a very good tool. I had a wish for another partition on my drive for a while, and wished to enlargean existing one. This programme allowed me to make those changes with no reformatting of my computer or reinstallation of windows, etc drag the slider bar to createthe sized drives partitions i required, hit the button and off it went.
4 changes to make, took about 1.5 hours on my 2 year old XP 32bit system.
Briliant!
The reboot did hang for a while but once it sorted itself out (patience) it works fine and i can only say thankyou GOTD!
I recommend it. Im not a geek, just a user who had a need for a change of partitioning. this did it for me.

Ace! thumbs up from me

@MrFishy - I'd reccomend NOT using this to zap your recovery partition!!! Are you speaking more of "Un-allocated Space"? "2+ G’s not being used there," referring to your "primary drive"? Usually your "Recovery" partition is a hidden partition that you'd use a "Recovery Disk" to access. I don't mean to sound rich or high brow but getting another disk to work with is getting cheaper. Now USP external drives are coming down in price as the size gets bigger! If you're a system builder (like me), I don't write programs or code, I build the system, install an operating system and do the installations of all the required and requested programs.
You could use this to "view" your harddrive partitions - including "Hidden Partitions". Use caution! If you're not sure, don't do it! Anymore questions try me at torymon@gmail.com
Good program, just upgrade my 3.51 (?) to this one! Highly recommended, Thanks GAOTD! And Easus!

This is good software from a reputable company - simple as that. Easus is cut above most of the vendors offered here - we've used their server products for years... just as functional but a fraction of the cost of other partition managers (The server version of Partition Magic, for exmaple, is $499 last I knew...theirs is $99 last I knew and did pretty much the same things pretty much the same way). Anyway - if you need something like this go for it -you'll be happy.

In my mind, if a partitioning tool crashes the system for no fault of the user, its a big NO for me.

My warranty will be up April 2010. I have both called Gateway and I have done the live chat. Be assured they will not help me get it back to the condition in which I bought it. And I bought it directly from Gateway. So go figure.

I say they don't support dual partitions because they DONT.

I spent $50, insured the computer for $800, and sent it in to Gateway and had them repartition it and reinstall all drivers and software in February. It came back with one partition. I tried to make a dual partition and it crashed horribly. I used the cd's that came with my computer and I think there is a way to create two partitions with that software but, like I say, Gateway wont help. And now almost 2 weeks in to reistalling software it is still not as fast as when new. BTW I will never own another Gateway.

I usually use the good old Partition Magic 8 or Paragon Partition Manager.
For systems without OS, gparted or some WinPE based solution is also a good choice (there are plenty of freeware and commercial (but mostly pirated) bootable ISOs which can be found easily using Google).
I already have more than enough partitioning programs so I'll probably skip this one.
Thanks anyway GAOTD.

GParted
unlike many of the win-based partitioners, GParted will not edit the current running OS's partition. so you need multiboot already, or optical drive (run GParted "livecd") to use. GParted for usb flashdrive also exists http://gparted.sourceforge.net/liveusb.php

GParted is not a robust program for NTFS use. I've seen many instances where it could not accurately read the partitions.

#65, #62 here - I blamed the software because the problem appeared immediately on both machines on which it was used. On reflection I began to think perhaps it's the result of converting to NTFS and not the fault of the program itself.

So per your suggestion, I downloaded UPHCLEAN, which I've installed on one of the machines. It cut the "Closing Windows" prompt time from 4 minutes to 90 seconds, which is still not what it was, but *much* better than before installing it.

I then got the following in the log from UPHCLEAN after a reboot:

"The following handles in user profile hive MAIN\Administrator (S-1-5-21-1275210071-1614895754-725345543-500) have been remapped because they were preventing the profile from unloading successfully:

svchost.exe (1008)
HKCU (0x39c) "

Before installing UPHCLEAN, the log indicated that it had a problem unloading a profile, and suggested:

"This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account."

So I went looking in the Services for something specifically connected with NTFS, and found the Distributed Link Tracking Client Service. Some research indicated I did not need it, so I set it to manual start, and now I reboot in about 20 seconds again.

THANKS for giving me the kick in the pants I needed to solve this ridiculously vexing issue.

MrFishy #70 ,
The data on the recovery partition never changes therefore I see no risk or hurdle moving the extra space to another partition, but it seems you are relying too much on the recovery partition which offers zero security against drive failure, fire or thief etc.
in which case an externally stored recovery option is needed and also considering that the factory restored condition is not much good in most cases other than for ownership transfer purposes due to the fact that it takes a lot of work to get a computer from factory stage to perfect stage regarding removing preinstalled crapware, loading programs, updates, and configuring to personal preference etc etc,therefore I make my own recovery option after a wipe/reload by backing up when I reach what I consider a perfect stage in addition to a very recent stage because although restoring to the "perfect" stage requires some updating effort... it sure beats restoring to either the factory stage or to a recent stage that has issues. Among many other things todays program is good for storing the operating system and data on separate partitions, which is a choice that has served me well. Rick

Thanks GAOTD for this one. seems like lately some of the software has been questionable at best.

it's not that I exactly need this, because I've used the free version on several occasions, but I'll definitely take it.
The free version has worked perfectly for me on a few times.
First I had used it to create a partition, which I later added windows 7 RLC to test out in dual boot, then later used it to remove the partition and get my full drive back for XP again.
worked perfect both times.

With HP's recovery partition, is it perfectly safe to move any excess space on that drive to the primary drive? I could use the 2+ G's not being used there, but don't want to find out I needed that space, should I ever need to recover my system someday.
Advice on this?

Installation was fast and easy on my Vista Business system. I won't have much chance to evaluate this for awhile, but with a quick glance it doesn't look much different than the version 3 I uninstalled to make room for this.

Since the interface is not nearly as appealing as Paragon's, and since Paragon is comfortable with my Linux partitions and this is not, I might not ever use it.

So, CHENGDU YIWO, I suggest you at least address the UI cosmetics if you want folks to prefer you to your competition.

#28: "When I got my Gateway laptop it had 2 partitions C: and D: My computer crashed and Gateway wont help me to get it back to the original configuration as “They don’t support dual partitions”"

Work your way up the support food chain?

"I was hoping Easeus software could help me get my computer back to a C: and D: partition arrangement."

After install, defrag to move all the data to one end of the disk, backup to external or removable media, reduce size of C: partition using Partition Master, create & format D: partition using same.

"When I copy the partition from my laptop to my external drive will Easeus over-write what is already saved on my external drive?"

Copying a partition is the same as creating/restoring a drive image backup -- IOW everything now on the target drive/partition goes away. Assuming the external drive has enough space, you'd need to create another partition on the external drive to hold your copy, & yes, you should figure out a way to backup the data on your external drive 1st just in case.

* * *

#41: "You have to buy a “Payment Edition” to get the boot CD."

See the iso disc image in the apps bin folder, or use the menu in the app, or use the individual Easeus Partition Master burning app from the start menu.

* * *

#42: "if you make a few small adjustments to partition sizes, it will do each one of those adjustments separately, rather than just the final outcome you want (eg, create new partition, then resize it to 50GB, then resize it to 60GB, then resize it back to 50GB, it’ll do 4 operations rather than 2)."

This isn't that unusual for partitioning software, which by tradition lists all pending changes, but doesn't do anything until you say so. Normally there's a list [with today's GOTD it's there on the left], where you can see what's supposed to happen, & change it.

#48: "...often I add a substantial number of negative or positive votes to a comment with just one click of my mouse. Spooks me out, and has naturally caused concern to some commenters. Perhaps I’d better desist from voting on comments from now on. Darn!"

Any given web page you're looking at is downloaded once, & then the connection more or less goes to sleep. Some sites will update periodically when they refresh their ads, other wait until you hit refresh, & GOTD waits until you "vote" or submit a comment. All those other "votes" occurred with *your* connection idle... only when you clicked yea or nay did you get a refresh with current data.

* * *

#54: "I then tried to burn a copy of the bootable CD. Both times it failed."

If it failed, meaning the app didn't say it finished successfully & opened the CD/DVD drive tray, the iso image file is located in the apps bin folder -- burn that using ImgBurn, Nero etc. If everything worked & you just don't see anything on the disk, you won't... it's written to the boot portion only.

* * *

#62: "I used the always free home version of this to convert all my partitions to NTFS from FAT32 on two machines... XP now takes 4-5 minutes to shut down... There is NO QUESTION that the NTFS conversion caused this, I just can’t figure out HOW, or how to fix it."

??? If you don't KNOW what the problem is, how can you blame anything? If you're interested in fixing the problem, there's loads of info on-line & at Microsoft's site. There are logs that might show you the source of the problem, & check out Microsoft's free UPHCLEAN, which "is a service that once and for all gets rid of problems with user profile not unloading." If you track down the problem, & it is related to Easeus converting the file system (which ATM seems impossible), then I'm sure Easeus will want to talk to you.

I know it can be frustrating -- I had a similar long shutdown caused by Microsoft's Live OneCare on this PC in XP Pro (the only *cure* short of un-install was to use task mgr to close it prior to shutdown) -- but getting rid of the problem is more important than focusing on placing [IMHO false] blame, so spend your energy there. ;-)

1st apologies since I *always* have a mental block with Easeus calling their app Partition *Master* instead of Manager -- I unconsciously see/use Manager, not just in posting here, but on my own system with shortcuts, folders, & logs etc... Go figure.

Easeus Partition Master Pro does create a boot disk, & like prior versions it is pretty much just a boot disc -- Windows Explorer will see the disc as blank, because Explorer doesn't let you look at the special, separate part of the CD with the boot image. It's the same as Windows install discs, only in this case the data section (the main 700 MB or so) is left blank. If you open the iso file included in Partition Master Pro's Bin folder, using IsoBuster, you can see the boot files including GRUB boot mgr. [Shame there's not an easy option to just create a boot floppy -- I *know* they're ancient & have been supposed to be faded out years ago, but they work, & are often the only *reliable* way to update/save firmware, are the only easy way to update XP drivers during install, are often the only way to boot a system with corrupted bios etc...]

This new version of Easeus Partition Master Pro takes up ~70 MB with 563 files in 44 folders. It adds 5 files to the System folder -- file names are the same as prior versions: BootMan.exe, epmntdrv.sys, EuEpmGdi.dll, EuGdiDrv.sys, setupempdrv03.exe OR setupempdrvx64.exe. After un-installing version 3.5, then removing any left-over entries in the registry, I recorded 72 registry entries added, 23 updated, using InstallWatch Pro in XP Pro SP3 32... much of those are housekeeping & uninstall data.

A nice touch, Start Menu shortcuts include a readme file [if you use partitioning software once in a couple 3 years, could be a useful reminder of what this app does], along with links to the help file & included pdf manual [cool for the same reasons].

I used the always free home version of this to convert all my partitions to NTFS from FAT32 on two machines about 3 months ago. The conversion worked fine, but be aware of this:

On both machines where the conversion was done, XP now takes 4-5 minutes to shut down, where previously it took 20-30 seconds to do so. This may not be an issue for you, but if you're doing things where you have to reboot 5-10 times a day (for development purposes, say), it's absolutely MADDENING.

Tech support sent me a generic response about using chkdsk to check for errors (there weren't any), then disappeared.

There is NO QUESTION that the NTFS conversion caused this, I just can't figure out HOW, or how to fix it.

@Urban

The bootable image is included in the install. Look inside the bin folder for image.iso. Burn to disc. Voila!

#43, Urban... I was wondering the same thing. I figure the negs are from children getting a laugh as they use their parents computer.

If those same kids do want to neg a simple question perhaps they could take the time to explain WHY they do so. I can't figure it out.

#47 Doru... When you start your computer it 'boots up'. A bootable disk would be used to get a computer system up and running if there was a problem in the boot sector of your hard drive. Everyone should have a bootable CD or disk handy and if you don't have one you can use this program to make one for you. You will have to learn how to start your computer in such a way that it seeks the disk before it seeks the hard drive if and when a crash were ever to happen.

Chances are your computer already has a program to make a bootable disk but this program will do it for you as well as perform other functions. Be cautious using it because it can damage your machine's software and delete things you don't want deleted if you are not careful. Read the help files if you are not sure...
