Just downloaded and installed this program today via GAOTD. However, the interface comes up with all the controls grayed out, and no disks visible in the Disk Map section. What am I missing here?

Anyone?

EASUS is good software. I've purchased this and other utilities when I was in a bind... PartitionMagic for Servers was too expensive... EASUS utilities did the job just like much more expensive software. Great giveaway - don't be afraid... GO FOR IT.

limited to only 2tb is a drawback from my pov. 2tb is current common size at retail. larger hdds must already exist.

{snip}“And there is no program that engrosses the storage device running.”{/snip}
I'm guessing it is a bad (mechanical) translation of the idea that no tool will work on (ie "engrosses" probably equates to "increase in size") the active partition.

Partitioning tools are one of those things you rarely use. Usually you only need one when you first get a new computer, new HD upgrade or have to re-install the OS.

************

Messing around with partitions is one of those GOTCHA tasks. If you, the computer, the HD or the software drop a bit, you could lose all of your files! So make sure you have GOOD backups (ie you have tested to verify it really works) on different media (external drive or CD/DVD). Better yet, have more than one backup available, just in case!

**************
My favorite use of partition tools is to reduce the size of the OS partition (ie C: drive in windows) and create a separate "DATA" drive where I store all of my personal files separated from the OS and applications. That way, when inevitably I have to re-install windows I don't have to worry about my data files.

http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=834 - this article gives step by step instructions on how to resize a Vista partition without damaging data.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/160849/move_your_data_to_a_safer_separate_partition_part_2_vista.html - This article provides instructions on how to relocate your data to separate partition. It also has a link to similar article for XP.
**************

Back in September I had to re-install Windoze. So I took the opportunity to repartition my drive. Since I didn't have anything to lose, I gave the partition tool bundled with Vista Business a try first. It did all of the basic stuff I needed to do, shrink 1 of 2 existing partitions, create new partitions in the free space. It was a pleasant surprise.

That being said, a dedicated tool like this one (especially since the price is right) is usually better, with more functionality. So if you don't have one of the freeware tools, it would a good time to grab this one and immediately create (one or more) bootable disks. They'll come in handy sooner or later, and if you have one it'll make you into a computer "hero" for someone.

If you want to compare this tool to freeware, here is a link to a recent article reviewing partitioning tools:

Just downloaded, installed and repartitioned my harddrive in less than a half-hour. Windows 7 own disk management software would not allow me to extend my partition into the unallocated space before my main partition but EASEUS did, without blinking.

FANTASTIC. Thanks very very much for solving this problem for me.

Kindest regards.
