Ok, but I prefer Duplicate Cleaner - the selection assistant is worth the (free) price of entry alone - it also can detect and create hardlinks. I'm not sure how this type of program justifies a price tag when there are several good free alternatives.
Find duplicate files with Duplicate Cleaner now!

I ran the program to look in my music folder and it found about 30 duplicates. Great! Then I scanned my external hard drive and my system crashed. Hmmm ... I'm nervous about using it again so will leave well alone.

I tried this. It's crap. I always try to find good aspects but the only thing is the CRC check.

The interface is bad and almost useless. How could a dup finder not provide right-click command to files such as "properties" or "open target folders"? How can we then verify the info?

The scanning is also useless. I scan the same folder twice. First time it found two files - different names but same CRC. Good. But it's lame that I have to go browse using Explorer to find that folder... Then, I delete the file. I repeat the search. It found another dup set - this time files with same file size (different name and CRC). What the...?

I think it's not well-thought out... or not thought out at all. There's no intelligence. They should have not made comparison on filesizes if the CRC is not the same! Why would two files of the same size be the same if the CRC is different? Makes no sense. Should have just made based on CRC alone.

Also, should have provided context commands. Apart from that, should have NTFS hardlink and junction tools built-in so you can either delete the duplicate, or delete one and create hardlink, or if the whole folder's duplicate but you need in both, combine and create junction.

It should also have a feature for ignore list. If it finds a duplicate and I know that I need them to be duplicates, then I should be able to tell the software to ignore the files so I won't be seeing them again the next time.

It should also have the ability for a sort of favorite list so I can have several preset folder sets to check via one click. Better still, have a background monitor or enable command options so I can create shortcut to run the preset or put in scheduled tasks. Then I can get a report later and decide what to do with those dups.

On top of these, when two files are found, it should be able to run a compare for text-based files. For images, maybe open two images side-by-side. Of course, for same CRC, why bother? But could have a feature for find dup by name & find dup by size. Will be useful to rename files before merging several folders. Sort of like a compare utility but instead of two folders, the whole system.

For music and video, maybe mp3 tag or properties/comments comparison (... those dup music & video are a lot... all diff length and CRC but the same songs/movies).

As an added feature (maybe for a Pro version), it can start having a sort of whitelist database of known duplicates - so if duplicate files are supposed to be duplicates (such as in folder-based version management system, DLLs for side-by-side updates, etc), then it will display with a mark so user can choose to put in ignore list, or create junction/hardlink - or even delete but with heavy caution.

A dup file finder with these features would be a great tool. Really great especially for system admins. Oh, for those types, network scan, file sync (based on dups), etc would also be useful.

I think for $19.95 this is a rip-off. I won't even use it if it's freeware. If it's pre-installed, I'd uninstall it. So for Styopkin, take this as positive criticism. If you can have all the features I mentioned, I think you can sell it for more than $50 for a home version and more than $200 for an enterprise version. Because I think your font manager was almost superb (should have repaired the interface bug).

Come on, there's already plenty of better dupe file finder. What we need is a super-duper dupe finder with the feature I suggested. Now, who would not want a music dupe finder that can scan and compare wave patterns/signature? Pergh.. that'd be cool!

To rate from 1 to 10, I'll give this a -3. Not worth even the hassle to download. Dangerous software even when you know what you're doing (because of no ignore list - you might delete the required file after a few scans after you forget - deleted by someone else meddling with your PC).

Well I have downloaded this twice and uninstalled it twice. Seems that every download I have done thus far through GAOTD does the same thing. I can not regester it.It shows no regestration link and just brings me back to the same site. I give, am I really that stupid. I can download anything else from god knows where with no problems. But, they all cost me. So if it's free and you can't regester it what go is it...

I downloaded, installed, pasted in my reg code and scanned -- for about 4 hours. The open program made my computer run slow all day, but I put up with it because it found a lot of dupes. This evening when I had time to work with the duplicates, the program said it wasn't registered. I registered again and it asked me to close the program and reopen it. A day of sluggishness for nothing.

Other than this bungle at the beginning, it looks good.
