@57: That would not work. Drivers must normally be registered with the operating system. Some drivers need the information on which mode to run this (Kernel / System / User Mode). Also need some drivers safety information that must be entered in the registry. My good intentioned Tip: Do not install drivers manually, there is good reason the software is doing this correctly.

@ # 06 Besides drivers frequently being removed from sites, not everyone can afford the internet n many have limited internet n spend a lot of time looking for drivers or downloading stuff repeatedly.

TO 56 & 57:

I am using the previous Driver Magician GOTD, and IT DOES BACKUP all the files needed to re-install drivers. For example, my Bluetooth device driver backup includes 4 files:
btwusb.cat
btwusb.sys
drvbck.pdb
oem26.inf
And I have successfully re-installed these drivers at least two times in the past year or so, and once was to a completely different machine.

I was going to praise Frenk @37
But just noticed Softtest @56

I would appreciate feedback from others on this matter.

Could I partly do what Frenk suggests -
Burn the contents of the Drivers folder to a CD.
Then later when I do a fresh install of XP I could go to Device manager, and for each needy bit of hardware, select install/update driver, and browse to the CD

Would that work ?

@37: What a nonsense! Backup driver files is not enough, i.e. the registry entries and inf/cat files are also needed. So please tell people no bullshit.

I have been using this software since version 3.32. Backup and restore work just fine for me. I have not tried the updater because I only update on an as needed basis, and I have not needed to.
I like that you can create an auto setup package so that drivers can be reinstalled without this program. I also like being able to make a backup of folders with the drivers in them. This way I can see exactly what drivers each device is using. This could help in troubleshooting later if I should have a problem with a device.
Thank you GOATD and GoldSolution Software.

I have the previous GOTD version; it is worthwhile and I never had a problem with the driver backup "expiring" like some said. I only used the "backup drivers to folders" so that the backups are not compressed or compiled into an .exe file, and so are ready to recover at any emergency - AND you can pick and choose which driver to reinstall yourself. AND I NEVER used the "check for driver updates" options. Like others said, why would you gamble on new hardware drivers, if your machine is working fine? Especially in this day when every update comes with new SPYWARE, sending your personal data off to timbuktoo behind your back. You need this software to make a backup of your drivers that are working now. This Driver Magician is an excellent GOTD.

I only use it for backup purposes and download drivers from the vendor's site, I'm not sure if Driver Magician fully supports 64-bit systems yet. When installing a new driver I first make a most recent backup with Driver Magician. If it so happens the new driver 'breaks' something, I just uninstall it and run the auto-setup package and viola. If it works, I make a new auto-setup package but I keep the old one just in case.
I keep five most recent auto-setup packages on my backup drive just in case I ever need them. They work even when Driver Magician isn't installed.
Thumbs up and thanks to GoldSolution Software and GOTD.
