It is a laudable software- perfectly built and furnished for web designers, though I don't see why there is a 'Matrix code' effect for pictures. The preloaded samples, especially the depiction of the forest, inspired me considerably.
You can even save your final masterpiece as a video or GIF file and show it to your friends and family. They won't know that you are surreptitiously using DP Animation Maker to make those ethereal pictures.
I hope there could be more software like this next time in GOTD.

#38 & 50 - Frank & dugi - MS Article kb 949826 says this error may be due to an invalid or corrupt installation of .Net and their suggested solution is to uninstall and reinstall .Net. I personally would also recommend others try the same repair if they are getting similar kind of error messages. I would also submit the informed observation that today's program offering must in fact require .Net be installed, even though it is not listed in GAOTD's System Requirements disclosure. I have not checked the developer/publisher's website to see if .Net got left out only here or what; perhaps we got a special version of their program without a normal routine to install .Net if it's not present. Anyway, if it's missing or corrupt, the software just refuses to run. I know, it's one more thing to go wrong, but the way it was explained to me is that it speeds things up, so I've learned to like it more or less even though it takes up a rather large space on my C hard drive. No pain, no gain. ;)

#60 - AB - I have tried many different unzip programs due to having various problems with what Windows has built in. My long time fav was 7-Zip until I recently discovered Zipeg, which I find not only works well, but provides a way to screen the zipped-up files before opening them, for a much safer experience, IMHO. Why not try one of these or even one of the other ones and see if that clears it up? If by some weird chance you already have one of the above, then I would suggest you reinstall it in case it got messed up somehow, such as during an update. Oh yeah, I forgot to say the ones above are free, unlike WinZip, which works but I can't justify paying what it costs.

@#58(mike), thanks Mike, I seriously appreciate Your advice and useful tips - I can never get enough of them! As to "Hollywood".., it's more like "Bollywood" in my case, if You get my drift:)) - no mick intended at Bolly Fans, lol. I spend far too much time trying to create something as flawless as poss, with any Software I have (animated images can never appear to be "jerky" IMO, biggest sin when dealing with particles - unless for fun you want them to be that way:) Having said that -- simpler Solutions can often lie in either learning better techniques and/or tricks!), or indeed in using more sophisticated Programs. And off course - size matters! (in this case - always, ha ha). Thanks for Your tips - and sorry for unfortunate choice of words, as even I can see unintended hilarity of it:)

@Scooter, #54: Waaaauw Scooter, did I spit in your soup or what?

You should try to read and understand what someone is writing in stead of yelling the way you do. I won't bite when you disagree.

I know that you can convert a movie to gif, I even gave a description what would happen in case you would do such a thing: "Theoretically you could skip stills in a movie and use the selected stills for the animated gif"

I even did it myself: http://www.evanolds.com/movtogifsimple.html

This executable is this small because it heavilly leans on 'DOT NET'. Otherwise it would be a lot bigger.

What I said were two things:
First: it would be a lot of work for the developer to do something like that, were it is not meant to be a gif creator iin the usual way, meaning compiling an animated gif from several stills, but rather compiling an animated gif from one still adding extra's like other animated gifs. This is still a animated gif creator but being a bit different, where importing a movie would not fit (might be only to my tast, but that ain't too terrible I think) the functionallity it was designed for. Just have a look at the other product they sell at Desktoppaints.

You seem to realize that now, quote #59 "Didn’t realize this company was a big screensaver creator type of developer. I wouldn’t have expected as much from them, such as the ability to import movie files to make animations.", but not after heving a good yell at me.

Second: importing a movie would make very substancial gifs. It does now already. To big a gif file could not be used on a website any more. This is a risk you already have now, but luckely you can export to AVI or exe aswell.

Quote, #54: And I would refrain from offering up reviews of a program you couldn’t even get installed on your own machine. Did you read the Readme.txt file? It says to install it as an administrator, maybe that’s the source of your problem.

This my dear, is shear arrogance. I had a previous offer here that did install and that produced animated wallpapers. I've used it a lot and I do know very well what I'm talking about, unlike you seem to do.

I always read the readme file just to not get surprised when something differnt is expected. You couldn't know, but it didn't hinder you to suggest an accusation.

And again you prove us that you don't read to well (not only by changing your position from #54 to #59 which was actually something to be aplauded) bbut also by suggseting to run as admin, wher I wrote in #15 "(admin @ XP-SP3)".

You had this coming, just chill a bit dude.

Installed and activated on Vista Ultimate 32-bit without issue (Run as Admin). At first I didn't think much of it, but decided to import a mountainscape I had handy and play. Fun, interesting little program, within its limitations. Added a foreground grass effect (like the forest example animation), a few butterflies in the distance (not many, 3 or 4) and one rays of light animation, and it came out surprisingly well.

More interesting, for those of you who want to do text overlays, etc., is that like any animated gif, these can be opened in Adobe Fireworks, with full access to edit each individual frame. You can easily add your own sprites and effects there on a frame-by-frame basis if you wish. You could even do your own subliminals if you modified only one or a few frames. I also note that the project files are .asw, which Google shows as being ACDSee slideshow files, so presumably you could opent them there if you wish.

All in all, it's no Sony Vegas, or Adobe Premiere or Final Cut, but for what it appears to be actually meant to do, it's a nice little program that I'll be keeping around. As a user of Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium (and no doubt for free alternatives such as GIMP and Inkscape), this program can easily be used as a starting point for more ambitious projects, if desired. For free, you can't beat it. It's a keeper.
