@Merle1
How can I remove DiskAnalyzer from the right-click menu using the registry editor? Which directory?
I uninstalled it but the "Open with DiskAnalyzer Professional" is still there.

Thanks very much to anyone who will answer.

[...] I found out that my DAZ runtime takes up 75% of my 145GB drive by using another giveaway, DiskAnalyzer Professional, which tells you what the largest files/folder are on your computer. I did a search just for jpgs in the DAZ Runtime, and found some VERY interesting things, which may surprise you and may help you, too! Guess what the largest jpg in my runtime was? The texture file for “Gruffles” the free character from RDNAs Holiday giveaway last year! And there’s a second (I think female?) “Truffles” character which was the 2nd largest. Also weighing in VERY heavily were the “Sticks McGee” character texture, the super-old crab and bull from DAZ and Stonemason’s free Dragon’s Lair texture. None of these textures needed to be anywhere near the size they were, so most of them I resized to 1500×1500 or even 1000×1000 and re-saved. I mean, I can see a huge file size if it’s a character I use all the time and it’s photo-realistic or something - but the DAZ crab? Um, no. [...]

Interesting glitch where it displays the pop-up window items (such as the scanning status) in the middle of the entire desktop rather than the middle of the window. This normally isn't a problem but I run dual monitors and it spanned them, centered on my total resolution width.

It's an okay application, I wouldn't have paid the $30 for it but for free, I'm willing to try it!

What happened to the 2nd box that used to open on top of the 1st? Now all I'm getting is 'Readme' and 'setup' in the first box, and when I click 'setup', then 'run' I get "Activation module failed to connect to giveawayoftheday.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check your firewall settings." And on Beeline, I get to the second box and when I hit "Setup and Activate" I get the try later message. What's happening? Yesterday's downloads, with the separate 'readme', 'setup' and 'activate' to select, everything worked great - why did it get changed? and how do I get these to work? - I've been retrying for 3 hours ... Help!

#37 has made a great suggestion in giving GoTD users a 30% reduction against the cost of buying the software within a certain time, say a month; so that you get all the advantages of upgrades and tech support. I will be buying some of the software when it's time to upgrade, or when I lose the software through formatting the HDD's. Nice one sar

Some other useful ones - all freeware AFAIK - (Google them for URLs)

Windirstat - (already mentioned)

SequoiaView - (like Windirstat, but prettier)

JDiskReport - (Multiplatorm (Java) Not only does it show relative usage in pie charts and bar graphs, but also oldest, largest, etc on either entire disk or tree)

Dupkiller - find duplicates (I haven't tried this one yet)

I've loaded this on a WinME machine but when it runs I keep getting the message "Invalid argument to time encode" - what the heck is that? I haven't seen it mentioned here or in the forum. By the way, I logged into the forum but now my name doesn't show here - another mystery. Anyway, the program looks fine if only it would run w/o that error.

Attn. # 66 :

Graphics - the The Gimp
Anti-Virus : Look at Anti-Vir or Avast (both good, both free)
I doubt you'll find much better graphics than that for free, and i've had excelent luck with Avast.

This stuff is free. It's not always great, and I don't always have a use for it. But come on, it takes me what, 30 seconds of my day to see whats offered. It's free software. Free stuff vs. 30 seconds of my time. Its worth a quick glace every day. Is there an RSS feed for the site?

A little addendum and correction to my previous comment: The software isn't useless itself, but rather is useless to *me*, because commands like tree, ls and dir would find all this information for me anyway, and the fact that it can find duplicates only by name makes it kind of a waste to be looking for that (what, not even a CRC hash or something?).

#66 (GGTADV): http://www.avast.com/ , http://www.gimp.org/ , http://www.irfanview.com/ , anything else?

Personally I find DiskAnalyzer quite useless - I could find this "analysis" information with a few simple commands. What's worse is that it has absolutely no clue what a sparse file is -- 8.00 GB (8,589,934,592 bytes) is incredibly tiny when the SIZE ON DISK is 132 KB (135,168 bytes).

OK, I did post at #28, but only because of the stupefyingly pointless post at #27 -- why bother saying anything at all if your comments don't include details of your user experience of the software? Too many posts appearing in this comments section seem to be dashed off in order for the poster to hear his own voice in cyberspace. . .

Anyway. Rant over. I downloaded, installed and ran this full licensed version without a problem. It delivers on all the promises made for it by its developer, and does it at speed and with style. The help manual is comprehensive; this software requires no more than a few minutes' read-in by the user to get it up and running.

I'm a hobbyist photographer with duplicate images scattered all over this PC; this software, running a folder-by-folder scan, found 'em in seconds. But it also found loads of other stuff way past its sell-by date and archived files I'd completely forgotten about.

Verdict: in my experience, this is proving to be a great application, easy to understand and easy on the eye, and as fast as it is thorough. Congratulations to Crave Worldwide: looks like I'm going to be buying something else from you as a result of this first encounter with your work.

And, of course, many thanks to GOTD -- again -- for providing this unique facility.

1/ After uninstall, the "open with Diskanalyzer" when right-clicking on a folder is still present. Had to play with the registry to solve this !!!
2/ Zip files before deleting them from within the program doesn't work
Too bad, seemed interesting.

By the way, #57 and the "DRM" folder: Not a good idea to delete that folder unless there's corruption there. That folder is the Digital Rights Management folder, and if you've purchased tunes from Itunes or Rhapsody, etc., the licenses are probably stored there. You may have to repurchase those songs to access them again if you delete the DRM folder. See this MS Page about deleting that folder (if there's corruption, but has the warning about having to repurchase):

Ok, not to look a gift horse in the mouth (thanks GOTD!), it would be easier if the readme.txt file explained the pesky details about the UPGRADE portion of the software, vs. having to get the answer here.

Again, I am very appreciative of free software, so let me make that unequivocally clear. I'm just trying to impart my opinion about how to save both posters AND GOTD staff from having to deal with these activation issues.

Since the "U P G R A D E" entry appears on the software tool bar, and the link it goes to still suggests that the download is a trial version (the web link says purchasing will provide for "Instant delivery of the fully functional, unrestricted version of the product."), it's hardly something that's not going to cause confusion.

This can easily be remedied in the readme.txt file. If someone then chooses not to read the readme.txt, the only response to their activation question at that point would be "Read readme.txt". But the readme.txt file could (have) easily said "Despite the inclusion of an U P G R A D E option on the software toolbar, please know that this is, in fact, a fully function non-restricted version of the software", or words to that effect.

I'm assuming that GOTD actually screens the software and any potential activation details prior to making it available, so it shouldn't be hard to see that this might come up as a question, at least in this case.

I've now seen at least three variations on activating the free offerings here; activate.exe, copy/paste reg key, and no activation required other than running setup.exe. So, there are going to be questions if details like this aren't dealt with in advance.

All of that said, again, my thanks for the free 'ware!

Thanks GoTD team for pointing out the obvious. I'm doped up with morphine due to a major accident, so don't think too well at the moment., I was just curious as I've not seen 'UPGRADE' on the front page of a program before. (re #46). And to Anonymous above. You're absolutely right in what you say, and I am really happy with this site. To be honest the only program I didn't download, because it was no use to me was the mobile phone zip extractor, virtually every other program so far I have found either very useful or at least maybe in the future. Even if the next program, or the next ten were of no use i wouldn't be complainig, as you've saved me a lot of cash, and given me the ability to give each program I really am interested in buying a really good test run. When the time comes for formatting, I'll know which programs i'll want to purchase, which is already several.

Oh I forgot to say that the real trial version of DiskAnalizer only allows you to analyze the 'c' drive. Another proof that this is the real deal. (Why can't I make my name show in these posts?)

This is indeed a full featured, unlimited registration version of the program.

As a test, uninstall it, download the real test version and you'll see that everytime you try to do something, it asks you to buy it, something that the GOTD version does not.

The reason it has a button that says "UPGRADE" is for later use when new versions come out.

DiskAnalyzer is NOT a cleaning disk application. I don't know where people got that idea from. It does says that it 'CLEANS' software because it has its own recycle bin where you can put unwanted stuff that the analyzer found for you and delete it right there and then.

I don't get it, so much negativity for FREE software. It blows my mind. GOTD is, without doubt, a great way to promote software and at the same time give people with small budgets the ability to obtain software that couldn't get otherwise.

Sure, there are free programs similar to DA but, like with everything else, you get what you paid for. DA costs $30 and lots of people buy it at that price not because they are ignorant and can't find the 'free' utilities. They paiy for it because they get technical support, something that most 'free' programs do not.

Yeah, I know, we don't get tech support, but one of the things tech support does is guarantee a certain quality of the product and that is something we do get.

The free programs may be great, give you a better interface, work faster and do more things, but somehow I thing the key word there is 'may'. Not everybody is a windows guru and money buys peace of mind which we are getting for free.

I tell all my friends about GOTD. They all thank me later. That makes me happy. As hard as I try, I can't find anything negative to say about it, but for others it seems so easy. Maybe I am just plain dumb.

This looks like a nice program, but I have once again run into the same problem I have had many times before with software from this site: it installs and runs just fine on my laptop, but I can't even get the setup program to run on my desktop computer. Thanks.

Two for the free price of one - have used Easy clean before but there was too much jargon and detail. DiskAnalyzer Professional and DiskSwepper are two very useful tools - easy to instal and bloody easy to use - for some who aren't that computer literate it may be useful to have a warning window to explain exactly what type of file you are deleting before you delete it because you may need a .bak or something... I give it 100% thanks GOTD team - one of your better ones!

Interesting program! I used Disksweeper Free to check my C drive after cleaning it with CCleaner and Windows cleanup. It still found ~15 meg of files, most BAK that could be cleaned.

MOST INTERESTINGLY, it found a directory called DRM in documents and settings/all users! This entire directory was hidden to Windows no matter how I looked at it -- even a dos prompt. From Disksweeper I was able to move a file called drm.bak to the recycle bin were it was visible but I still could not open it with anything and it disappeared when I tried to move it to a partition on my drive.

All this to say KUDOS to the developers for this software since it sees a lot of stuff that other programs do not! I am proceeding cautiously since I do not want to run into problems if the program is too aggressive. So far it looks good!

this IS the FULL product.

the descreption of the pruduct is misleading, but that's because the creator described it wrong.

go to the author's website and you'll find out that this product simply does not have the CLEAN feature.

that's why they offer the disksweeper software.

when they describe this software they mean that it enables you to find useless files and delete them manually.

This is bad software. Uninstalled it but it left the right click menu for the application in Explorer. Uninstalled it because it is not the full version and even had "UPGRADE" in the menu display. Either it is free or not. This sight continues to deteriorate to the point where I will probably discontinue checking it.
