Worked great when I installed it. Here it is three days later and it can't find a dll file it needs. (I am NOT saying it is a problem with (or fault of) the program, but since it could only be installed during that first 24 hour period it is now useless to me.)

My grandkids liked to watch it when it worked, but I agree that such savers can cause more harm when used all the time. I only use such savers for entertaining the kids when they are over. However, due to the additional program I did not want, and now the "missing" dll, I give this one a thumbs down and have removed it.

The tacking on of that additional program is why I will not pursue other such savers from this particular company. (If I was given the option upfront of choosing whether to install the other program it would make a big difference - hint - hint - hint.)

This screen saver disabled all sound on my pc when I disable the sound in the screen saver. Took me awhile to figure out what went wrong.
As for the screen saver itself, very so so.

Nice screensaver for free; runs on XP and Vista nicely. I've been looking for some decent screensavers so this fits the bill. No way I'd pay $20 for it though. Not a lot of screens (or types of dinosaurs)--very repetitious. It would have been better if the dinosaurs just wandered the terrain. That's where http://www.serenescreen.com/ rises above the other screensavers.

A good Halloween screensaver would be nice {hint, hint}

Also don't run the screensaver without having a turn off time if you have LCD--running the screen shortens the life of the screen.

STOP YOUR WHINGING! It's a screensaver yes but a FREE one and not a bad one at that.

It looks rather nice and supports DX9 well with fully rendered water. it's also not too intrusive unlike some of the 3d screenies.

My only bad commnent is the "Dinosaurs" convulse about like jerky robots, but kids will love it!

Hi,
I installed and ran it on a Win98 PC, and got two messages:
"A required .DLL file, D 3D9.Dll, was not found." on starting the "Manager" and the "cannot create process" when I run it from the "Manager"
Checked for this error in the website, but there is no mentioning, and googled it but didn't find it.
Any help please?
Thank you very much for the GAOTD for their great work, wish them all success and thanks for the participants for enriching the whole experience.
Wishful User :)

I saw this and thought "Ooh. A screensaver. I like dinosaurs kinda." (Can you tell I'm new here? This is the first screensaver I've seen.) After downloading it my thoughts changed though. I do like screensavers, but this one is taxing on my computer. 3D is nice, but I think that the producers spent too much effort on it being 3D and not enough on making it interesting. It's basically two Brachiosaurus, one Stegasaurus, a few Parasopholouses, one Pteranadon, and a few little tiny guys running around occasionally.

It does look nice, but there's no variety in it. It would be much more interesting if they had 3 or 4 scenes that lasted 30 seconds or so each, and each scene had DIFFERENT animals. Whatever happened to Triceratops or T Rex? My opinion is the company should have added a bit more variety and a bit less 3D.

Now GAOTD, on the other hand, did a wonderful job. It's a great screen saver for free! I just don't see how anyone can pretend to justify $20 on a screen saver that's not even all that interesting. Free - it's great and highly recommended, but just not something you'll want to make your permanent screen saver - even the Windows ones are interesting if you rotate in and out. Thanks (really) GAOTD!

I really don't understand why anyone that visits this site would ever complain about a free product regardless if you like it or not. Come on, it's free! If you don't like it, don't downlaod it and wait for something you do like. To each is their own, why even make a comment if you never downloaded it cuz you don't care for it?????

Poppo has one question. Will it works with a dos prompt or as a substitute window. This is according to my nephew who is maybe best expert. I am not sure I have such prompt or window on this 6 years old computer but perhaps can it be dial up orientated? Anybody here know about this? The picture seems beautiful better even than the dark screen that is usual. So I would want this certainly. If appreciate answer I will select and thanks to you. In advance. Poppo.

I really like this screensaver. My son loves dinosaurs and my daughter loves any animal that is on the computer. The graphics are great, although, I was getting tired of seeing the same bronosaurus jumping up to eat some leaves out of a tree during "preview". I am hoping there are different scenes other than the same watering hole viewed from multiple angles.

The only problem I have with it and the sole reason it probably won't stay on my computer that long is that I did not see any dual monitor support. Any screensaver now adays should always be multiple monitors.

Other than that, very nice screensaver...it's the first one I have downloaded from here. Thanks!!

Elizabeth comment # 29; yes, the wallpapers do cause some problems, but they are still well worth the download. They are not suitable if you run games often because the animation sequence causes games to minimize to the launch bar. When I'm in the mood for animated wallpapers but want to play a game I turn it off via the task bar or the task manager if the icon isn't showing when playing games. I never have a problem on the computer I use for everything but games; also I don't get problems when surfing the net or working on word doc's or Photoshop’s. :)

Apart from the lack of water splashes and wakes following the brontosaurs wade in water, the foreground animations in this screensaver are very good. The stationary background image could have been made to look more realistic though. IMO it spoils the overall effect of the screensaver. That said, I will be keeping this screensaver. It's worth 7 out of 10 and at least $10.

Comment #11 by Frank. I nearly bought the complete collection several months ago, (it was less than $100 at the time), but decided there were only about 6 or 7 I really liked. I personally think screensavers are great. I often have 3 or 4 computers running in the study, doing various tasks. Each has a different screensaver running. I find them pleasant to watch for a moment, relaxing and a great de-stressor. If the computers lay idle for more than around 30 minutes my power saving settings kick in, so I feel I'm not being too much of a burden on the environment. ;) Besides I make up for it in other ways. :)

Interesting that you would not publish my post about the unknown second program being installed unknowingly by the installers of astrogemini.com screensavers. Is there something that tainted about the AstroGemini Screensaver Manager that comes bundled with it that needs to be hidden from your visitors that download this software?

Screensavers like this can be entertaining, but this one carries a second program I am not sure everyone realizes is there. It is called Astro-Gemini Screensaver Manager and opts you in every easily to connect to the net to download "other" programs. One of the sites previously mentioned for harboring malware is connected this way. Be very carefull with your software downloads or you will enable stealth connections like the one built within this program. With the use of a simple Rule Based firewall you can see these connections. The Screensaver program by itself is harmless, but the Screensaver Manager that is bundled and installed with it is in doubt.

well I would use this but it ignores my disabling of the sound/music and I prefer not to be startled by sudden loud noises when I least expect. really I dont know why people would want noises from their screensavers.

Screen savers are BAD for your PC. They cause the CPU to run hot when it could be idling. The best "screen saver" is to set your PC to shut the monitor down.

I never understood why people would use a complex 3D screensaver. Honestly, I want my computer to be near idle when the screensaver is running, keeping the processor cool for when I come back. Besides, flurry for windows is free.

Nice screensaver. I didn't download it but just because I am not into dinosaurs. I did download the MECHANICAL CLOCK 3D SCREENSAVER you gave away a few months back, but had to reformat and lost it. It would be wonderful if you would repeat that one. It was the nicest screensaver I have ever seen. Thank you GOTD for your always free every day offers. They are VERY appreciated.

This is an update to the comment I posted earlier.

I recently posted this on giveawayoftheday.com

@ 18

Thank you so much for mentioning that website. It is AWWWESOME. I just saved it to my favorites on my computer.

If you like free wallpapers check out www.desktopnexus.com

Not to complain (and thank you very much for all the free software GAOTD) but I downloaded the dinosaurs 3D Screensaver. It is beautiful graphics but I found the screensaver very uninteresting and the music quite boring. I like a screensaver that doesn’t keep changing scenery every couple of seconds. I felt like I was watching a very boring movie. WOuld have been more fun if the scenery stayed in one place and the dinosaurs were moving around instead. Would have felt more realistic.

Please note: Every scenery dinosaurs moved around but it felt like it was in a special order or a more appropriate word would be in a sequence. Also the scenery keeps changing every couple of seconds felt more like watching a slideshow with a couple of moving animals following a sequence.

I know I keep repeating myself but I am having a tough time trying to explain how it felt watching this uninteresting screensaver.

I’m sure there might be some people that find this screensaver interesting but nobody in my household did.

Thanks once again GAOTD for all the hard effort you put into finding us some free programs but I will definitely have to give this screensaver a thumbs down. :-(

HERE IS THE UPDATE:

If you go to the Dinosaurs 3D Screensaver website http://www.astrogemini.com/dinosaurs.html according to Mcafee Site Advisor when they tested the website they found links to 3d-screensaver-downloads.com which they found to be a distributer of downloads that some people consider adware, spyware, or other potentially unwanted programs.

By the way I am not one of those negative people on GAOTD that like to complain or badmouth a program if I don't like it. Everyone has different tastes and like I said earlier I appreciate all the hard effort GAOTD goes into finding us these free programs. :-)

it's pretty repetitive. well i have to say, i exaggerated on the screen saver thing. they don't have that many. but oh my gosh, would it kill you to put something on there that someone outside of file conversion/renamer lovers would enjoy?

Isn't it funny how evolutionists believe everything was created on it own. And that the matter to do it was always there but will not believe the God was always there?

I don't care to have 3D screensavers, and certainly would never pay for any of them,2D or 3D, but specially those, they use way too much memory, and slows down the system, which means the animation slows down, I've had a few over the past years and always end up deleting them.

I think it's silly that we're all getting free software/giveaways every day, and I hear SO many people whining about not getting what they want. So with that I want to send out a huge THANK YOU to GOTD for offering so many free downloads. I don't know of any other site that gives away licensed products as often as they do. I think it's awesome, regardless of whether or not I can use it. The effort they put forward on everyone's behalf is amazing.

why on gods green earth would i want a stupid screensaver.... they come preinstalled on the operating system, and their only purpose is to keep one image being burned into your screen if you have a crt monitor. (i dont think they are necessary for flat panels, but i havent checked)I dont know why anyone would pay 20$ for this- you can make your own screensavers with a movie to screensaver conversion, all they had to do was make a movie of lame dinosaurs and convert and sell.

thanks but no thanks

To my surprise, this really is a truly great screensaver. Works flawlessly. I like the fact that it will work with my spreadsheets and also most word documents. I am not sure if it will work with all word documents, but I am checking one at a time and so far so good. This screensaver has saved me about 30 minutes already today, from having to turn my monitor off quickly when my wife comes into the room and then having to turn it back on again. So it is quite useful. Also, I found the cheat codes online and am enjoying the 3 extra sequences and easter eggs. One special tip though. If you are using Windows Vista you may need to install the program, because it will not work without the installation part. I hope there will be more screensavers like this one, or at least similar in some ways, because they are hard to come by unless you can download them as well. Thanks GOTD for a very excellent screensaver. Highly recommended even to non-computer users and experts alike. Suggestion: let's see a "earth's core" screensaver with red lava and 3D geometric circles next time. Thanks!

#6 and #21 Actually. McAfee's SiteAdvisor says that downloads from this site are OK. "65 green downloads In our tests, we found downloads on this site were free of adware, spyware, and other potentially unwanted programs."
It is flagged as red under "Online affiliations for astrogemini.com" because it has a link to another site which people have reported as bad.
"Linked to red sites When we tested this site we found links to 3d-screensaver-downloads.com, which we found to be a distributor of downloads some people consider adware, spyware or other potentially unwanted programs."

If you avoid that link, it would appear that the site and downloads are OK.

I have two screensavers that i have bought from Astro Gemini: The "Merry Chistmas" and "Winter" screensavers. I've had them for two years now and I love them. They work great! So, I downloaded this one and installed it with no problems. However, when I run the screensaver it looks like crap! It is all silhouetted!!! No Cutting-edge colorful graphics! Everything else is working fine; the sound the animation. I tried redownloading and reinstalling and still I get the same thing. The only thing different about this screensaver than my other two is that my monitor turns fluorescent green just before it starts. Anyone else having this problem. So, someone messed up something somewhere. Thumbs down for me.

McAfee marks the site as red due to its links with another site (3d-screensaver-downloads.com) rather than with astrogemini.com itself. If you look at the more detailed analysis on the McAfee page, it states they completed 65 downloads from the site, and all were green (no adware, spyware, viruses). Also, there is a comment on there from somebody using GiveawayOfTheDay : "I've had this companies screensavers via give away of the day and they all seem to be safe." As this is the case, I'm going to give it a go, and if I do find any issues, I'll report back.

Hope this helps :)

To quote my kids "oh cool!" They are very excited for it & went around downloading it to all the computers in the house. As you can see they love it so it is great for kids and anyone else who loves dinosaurs.

The graphics are nice and the sound is not too annoying but I do have one small complaint. When it changes from one scene to the next the screen goes black for one tiny second. Not that big of deal but I just thought I would point it out. And maybe it is my laptop making it do the black screen or something I can do to the settings to change it.
