Unfortunately every time I tried to activate it told me something like "not available now try again later ...." So I guess I will never know if this software is good or not.

Nice player, but it caused some issues on my pc.

After I installed it, I restarted my pc. First, neither my cd/dvd drive or burner showed up or worked anymore. After some messing around and a few more reboots I got them to work. Somewhat.... They showed up in My Computer, but neither Windows MediaPlayer nor VLC would play my dvd's. VLC is my default dvd player(and still was after I had installed Crystal).

Well, I uninstalled Crystal and now everything works perfect again. Thanks for the freebee, but I don't think I'll be using this.

As other's have noted, the mpeg2 decoder appears to be beta.

Also, while it does display subtitles, I can't seem to be able to choose subtitles. IE, videos that contain multiple language subtitles are all displayed at the same time.

No problem with setup. There is no sign of flv files among the listed codecs on the player. Are those who have this adding codecs from elsewhere?

Well, just been playing some movies with x264 compression, and Crystal Palyer doesn't quite measure up against PowerDVD v5 for quality of playback.

Otherwise, this app rocks. Love that audio stream can be advanced/retarded to sync properly with badly dubbed movies... I've not seen that in ANY other player yet (maybe it's too well hidden in some??? Correct me if I'm wrong!)

Nice app, thanks GOTD!

Pretty good player. Even plays mkvs, which no one seems to have mentioned so far... doesn't anybody here use bittorrent at all??? The only problem I seem to be having, is having the player recognize dual-channel files...

Went ahead and tried the 1.96 version, still FREEZES when I stop or try to close the player. I end up having to use the task manager to force the program to close. Why, why, why???

Will you be able to update this with any new codecs that come out?I reckon not,as what we are getting is an unsupported version.Even so i will be using it as it looks pretty good.I have been using VLC which has not let me down yet and is actually free.

It doesn't matter. As a matter of principle, how can you trust ANY company that bundles spyware or adware with ANY of their products? That takes away any credibility whatsoever in my eyes. Companies like CrystalPlayer.com need to learn that people aren't willing to put up with that.

I love you guys, GOTD. Understand my beef is not with you. I've been very pleased with your website and it's the first thing I check in the morning.

In my experience Zoomplayer http://www.inmatrix.com/ is superior. The new version5 has an excellent interface, and an Install Centre that checks your system codecs and downloads missing or latest versions to ensure best playback.
The standard version for media files is free and the Pro version adds DVD playback. It is easier to customise than VLC or WMPClassic, the settings menu has been redesigned, and it has more options. I have it set it up just how I want. Smoooth.

Thank you for the download, nice to try it, but IMHO Zoomplayer is the leader.

I looked through the comments and checked out the various links and this is what I have found out from installing the program and scanning my computer:
The site and all but the free 1.97 versions are adware/spyware free. So far i have encontered no problems and I will relay what problems I have if I have them.

I'll say this also:

Great giveaway GAOTD team!

Hm.

This one's not for me.
Too much fluff, not enough balls.

The default UI is too much of a mess.
The few skins offered are mostly Apple knockoffs (Who uses Brushed Metal any more, eh?), and a WMP clone.

This assumes you can even reach their website still.

The good news is, the player is clean, like listed on one of the SiteAdvisor bulletins; The only thing my anti-spyware app turned up on this particular run were some errant cookies. :)

I'm impressed. It's opened everything I've tossed at it including wmv, mov, and flash videos .. opens partial files fine too..

What really is nice is how fast it loads. I also like the option to add a different audio track to play (cool feature if you have an alternative soundtrack).

Ah, forgot to add why CPU usage is so important for me and why I like the Crystal's low CPU consumption - I'm a laptop user, and I like how Crystal manages to play most movies using the lowest power settings on my laptop.

Guys, you REALLY need to try the UI before you say "___________ player is better than Crystal". You can control so many things using your keyboard keys, I do not need to do any mouse clicks using Crystal (and I use it for more than a year, so I learned a lot of small tricks like forwarding the video by 1 minute intervals or 15 sec ones with Ctrl-arrow keys, etc), EVERYTHING I NEED is hotkeyed by the software developers. See CPU usage also.
If you need the software to view different video formats, you need a good codecs pack, I have KLite pack, for example, but used Nemo pack before.

Great!!! I have VLC , Quicktime alternative, and of course WMP 10 already, but there are some crappy real media movies ( .rm extension ) I downloaded that only play back in VLC , but look like crap while it does it. So I installed Crystalplayer and it plays the .rm files noticeably smoother and clearer, obviously a better codec than VLC for .rm files anyways imho. Rock on! Nice interface, I like it a lot so far!! :)))))

While it does seem like a decent player, has anyone else noticed that while playing a 15 MB file it the player takes up 150+ MB of RAM. Media Player Classic and VLC open the same file and use @ 30 MB of RAM..I will stick with MPC and VLC.

Much better than this app.

BTW,I install the ones I choose to keep in a different way than this board suggests.I click on Setup First. It installs. Then I click on activate, click on ExtractAll,let it go through that short process, then click Activate again and click on Run.It ALWAYS says:"successfully activated".No codes or keys, just that simple,EVERY TIME.Thanks,GOTD Team.

@#29-It does freeze if you click while watching, but doesn't"crash".If you need to get out of it,just hit Esc(escape) key and it takes everything back to normal. As far as the player itself,it looks great.Even better than WMP or VLC in my opinion.Great Giveaway(so far).I've only chose to keep 3 of these Giveaways so far.BUT,some are very troubling when trying to uninstall(have to jump through a few hoops to get rid of ALL of it.)But,overall this seems like a good one.IMO,don't install any if you don't have a use for it.

It doesn't play .AVI at all:

"CrystalPlayer cannot find decompressor, should Crystal try to download it from the Internet?"

I answer Yes, it does its "Connecting to www.crystalplayer.com..." for a few minutes and then:

"Cannot download video compressor
Name: DivX 3
Info: DivX 3 (Microsoft MPEG-4 v3 build3920+) Video Codec
Link: http://www.divx.com"

...whatever it means to you. What it means to me is that I will continue using the free VideoLAN VCL Media Player that plays everything (and at no cost, like free without any restriction).

#39 is correct about CrystalPlayer buggy incompatible setup on WinME. Setup.exe is corrupt etc etc... Give it a thumbs down..bigtime.

However, #18 recommended GOMPLayer which is a GREAT app, very clean, very fast, great install and really informative. In 5 minutes I installed and setup GOM as complete default local video player, keeping Media Player Classic only for streaming video for QT and Real, and some obscure codecs in KLite pac. Thanks #18.
