Greetings from Germany!

ComplexEvolution is portable, if the evo.key is ANSI formatted!!!

http://www.essential-freebies.de/board/viewtopic.php?t=13350

So, don't export the regkey and then rename the regfile to evo.key.
Instead create a new file called evo.key in the programfolder.

Then (with copy & paste) write the information of the regkey into the evo.key.
It doesn't matter if it's only the registration-number or the complete regkey.

My firewall has identified this program as a keylogger.

I am uneasy about that, especially since this was not noticed before the install.

Is there a benign explanation?

This was the reply I got from their Support about the difference between the three types of burning software at their site:-

JetBee=Complex Evolution without skins support.
JetBee Free=JetBee without 'Extras' menu (not work with iso images, no VideoCD, SuperVideoCD, Alcohol images support, no copy functions). JetBee Free also have no support and no future upgrades.

Best Regards,
Andrei Dubouski, Mr.
Project Supervisor
Complex New Technologies

The question remains as to why this information is not supplied at the site - I am getting really sick of incompetent and disorganized web companies that do not seem to have the slightest idea about the information customers OBVIOUSLY need. Look at the similar problem about the question of portability!! Are Evolution trying to make a reputataion as a quiz site or offering an IQ Test in the guise of a software company?

This is kind of silly in a way.

If I want to run the program from my USB drive then I have to incorporate keys into the registry of the computer host where I am running it?

It is silly because portable software such as this should be designed not to care where the registry keys are located. They are made so they carry their reg values with them, so, why must it be added to the host reg?

It is kind of silly because in many cases the host OS is not going to let you copy the data to the registry without privileges, but that is exactly what they do!

Registry integrity protection is (or should be) essential for software like antiviruses, malwares, firewalls,...

And it would have been so easy to implement, pity pity.

I am probably talking with my toes between my teeth because there is an easy solution (if your windows OS knowledge is advanced enough), but I don't think so.

I can't get it to burn a simple audio CD from MP3s. I simple pick a couple of MP3s and drag them down into the new audio project, it appears to burn the disc, but the the result is a disc that nothing can read (including this app.) On the same computer I can burn a fine audio disc from the same MP3s using Nero, iTunes, and several other apps.

Can't seem to find any options that I've got set wrong....

It works OK and the interface is nice and well organized, but i'll stay with Roxio easy media creator 10.1 that is superior the best thing ever created as burning softwarez - no other burning software can touch it. Thanks though Gaotd!

Complex Evolution is a decent app, but there's some confusion re: whether it is portable or not... *Very Strictly* speaking, the answer is Not. A true portable app will not alter the registry, so it works for example if you run it from a USB stick on a PC without permissions to write to the registry, or if you didn't want to leave a trace behind. Running evo.exe writes to the registry. You can come close using Portable App Creator (you can find it in the forums at portablapps.com), & at the same time solve the problem of the registration key. Regardless running Complex Evolution without prior installation means you'll not be able to use the included StarBurn driver, so some features will be missing.

On the driver itself, some folks, myself included, have problems with it -- it's just not 100% compatible with everything... very little in the way of software is. If you have system problems after installation, start there. On the mysterious key file -- may work for some versions or some people, but it doesn't for me... bear in mind that the GOTD version is slightly different, that the only way to really test it is without the key in the registry (delete it), & it may work on PCs where the .key file isn't defined already [I have no idea when/where it became defined as a reg key, but that might short-cut evo.exe when looking for it]. Also bear in mind, I had trouble getting Complex Evolution to recognize the key in the registry once or twice until I deleted evo.ini.

Alternatives: ImgBurn is the standard, but it's not the most user friendly app on the planet -- I'll recommend it all day long, but I will not put it on a PC nor mention it to someone that can call me for help unless they have semi-advanced skills... If you decide to install Roxio, 2 words: "Good Luck". Research it, especially in Roxio's forums. Research the latest Nero bloatware before taking that plunge as well. The minimal Nero versions still go for a song on-line -- that's what I use 90% of the time without problems -- or there are a few free burning programs with decent reviews at videohelp.com.
