(updated link)

FYI: It appears that, as of 2025, "iPrint" as mentioned in comments below is still downloadable via this "Wayback Machine" archived address:

Installed on a couple of machines (XP Home & XP MCE) with similar installation experience. It went smoother on the second machine, of course, since by then I knew what to expect.

After installing using the Administrator account, the first time CP ran I was presented with a screen requesting my name & email address. Then, after submitting the info that window continued to run in an apparent "waiting" mode.

Fortunately I decided to let it continue without closing and opened a browser to check my email where, finding a new message, I clicked on the provided link and the waiting installer window changed to present a big green check mark indicating activation/registration success.

I suggest that the developer should add a few more words of instruction to that window to clarify what to expect during this procedure as this is quite different from other GOTD email-type registrations. Not hard -- easier, in fact -- but different.

Like others, I noticed that CP had become the default printer for this user account.

After looking over the setting options I did the usual "disable" for any auto-updates. I then exited the program, went to print something and it popped up and everything worked OK.

I then logged into another user account (normal/non-admin) and tried to launch CP from the Start Menu so as to check and see if the original/initial settings changes were universal among all accounts. However, I encountered software errors and it would not work. (I think it was an Abelssoft window that appeared for reporting the error condition, so I did.)

I discovered that for each of the other user accounts you must first change the default printer to CleverPrint, then it will launch without errors.

It will also request that you enter your name and email address as before during the original installation; however, if you supply the exact same name and address info, it will properly register/activate (without repeatedly sending you a new email and link each time).

You can then proceed to change the option settings to turn off the auto-update function or other choices; I.E., the setting choices are not universal among all accounts, so these steps must be repeated for each account.

On the second machine, I also entered the exact same name and email address to easily register/activate those accounts without bothering with any new email messages -- thank you very much!

However, a couple of times when attempting to launch CP to register in those additional accounts, the program would crash every time in spite of first being designated as the default printer device. Using Windows Task Manager I discovered that a process "CleverPrint.exe" was running as user name "System" rather than belonging to the account user's name. Logging back into the Administrator's account and terminating that process with Task Manager solved the problem for the other non-admin account. How does that happen on occassion?

Program has some very nice features and, although it is much slower to initially launch/process/appear on a print job than the now-free iPrint which I had been using:

...I think its additional feature set will prove very handy -- thanks, AbelsSoft and GOTD!

I've investigated EcoPrint and compared it to Clever Print, and from my observations these are two different categories. EcoPrint uses a special font to reduce ink usage while this program is designed to conserve space. Still one would have to fully keep track of the ink results of both programs to compare side by side.

#63, vicky, in the unlikely event that you read this, you extract the files from the GOTD .zip and run Setup and/or Activate according to the Readme. The GCD file is used by those programs as needed, it's not for your use.

#64, Gene, several of the programs mentioned may be able to do what you want. I know that priPrinter Professional can, but the full list price is steep. It leaves text as text.

Installed & had to use a temp email to register. All went well, but.... Those of you who have installed: CLICK ON SETTINGS TAB & THEN SETTINGS BUTTON TO UNCHECK AUTO-UPDATE! Program is set to update in 1 month (default). Otherwise it will revert to shareware. Just an FYI ;-)

In response to tontiloqui @ # 64 and as update to 32, I have installed easily on Win 7 32bits. No anti-virus flags were raised. Although, it set itself up as the default printer, right-click to print (a 1.2Mb .docx) seems to take forever with a very heavy ram hogging. Why I would have faster responses on XP than on Win 7 really beats me even after considering the differences de the two individual machines.

I GIVE UP - downloaded 3 times, when got no results printing, uninstalled it again but same results, never printed "anything".

After an hours of fiddling guess I'll never know but would be fun to do 16 or maybe 32 pages to a page just to see what I'd get....Don't have anything against Ablesoft, have others of their program but something missing here. No problem installing though it never came up with a way to register - except GOTD did say it was activated but who knows. Thank goodness for REVO doing it job and "cleansing house"

I have 2 actual printers installed and several virtual printers installed that I use for different applications. This installed as a virtual printer. When I opened the program it had all my printers listed with my default printer first. When I printed a document it changed the file type to .clpr which was the only choice unless I wanted to save it to a file, and it changed the default printer to this one. Seems folks want a program to do more than their printers are capable of, i.e. save toner feature, duplex, etc. which is dependent on their printer. I would like my printer to print borderless or print in a million colors too, lol but it won't. As I said earlier, I still like this program.

Also got demand for German .net to be installed. Running Win7 Professional 32bit with Spanish language OS and .net installed in a language other than German. I would like to try this software but cannot see how I can as I am not prepared to overwrite my current version of .net with that of a different language. Has any solution been found to this?
