Excuse me, but I did all the installing and the activating, and it is still saying I have only 7 days with it. The last 4 things I have downloaded from here have only been trial versions. And yes I do the activation and installing like it says. I change my desktop often, so this may be something I'll use. If I can get it to be the full version. And, like others, I'll be reformatting my PC soon, so keys would be nice.

I doubt you'll see this this late, but I searched the executable file with a hex editor for "http" and changed it to "httq", and saved it under a new name. It doesn't bother me anymore. :) Also, I don't have the problem with applying it to the desktop that you've had, so I don't know about that.

To number 85 (Swan):

If you have Windows XP you should be able to do a system restore and undo the un-installation of watermark factory, thereby having it back. You simply have to go back to a point in time before watermark factory was uninstalled.

It would be nice if they tell you that there is an additional *large* download needed. (Is watermark factory necessary for this?) It takes over 30 minutes at 48K. Some people don't connect that fast. Obviously, it will be a *long* time before I get to try the software itself, so I can't comment on the actual 1.x MB download.

Expanding on my comments in post #23, I was able to get it to stop loading the Watermark Factory webpage by using my security software to block its DDE intercommunication (IE still launches, but it's blank). When applying the effects to the desktop, it opens My Documents in Windows Explorer (very strange; it's not trying to save anything, and it saves into another folder, anyway). On the plus side, it's very easy to use, but it doesn't resize, so it's preview window is too small on my high-resolution desktop--I have to apply the effects to my desktop, and restore and try again if it's not right.

#85, Swan, if the Watermark Factory uninstall didn't delete the keys created by its Activate, run its Setup again.

General comment: please read the previous comments before posting. GOTD tends to hold comments for a long time and moderate them in batches, so obviously you can't know what's in pending comments at the time that you post yours, but there are a huge number of comments which repeat things that were posted in previously posted and moderated comments.

Warning to everyone,

It could be a coincidence, but this is the second time my system crashes with software downloaded here. I had to reinstall everything just great.

I like the site and the stuff it offers but its about time they check all the stuff they're giving away!

TIPS for all:

1. Read the GAOTD readme in the zip file, it usually says activate before or after setup for full version.

2. Try rebooting after install if you correctly followed the activate instructions and some progs need a registry entry for the full version to activate over the trial.

3. Read the T&C above and i quote: "Terms and conditions

Please note that the software you download and install during the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:

No free technical support
No free upgrades to future versions
Strictly non-commercial usage
THIS SOFTWARE PRODUCT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WITHOUT LIMITATION, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWABLE BY LAW, END USER ASSUMES THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OF THE DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE PRODUCT."

4. Don't (Self Censored) flame me for pointing this simple info out.

Good afternoon everyone! ;)

Thanks but no thanks today GOTD. I find that anytime I download a program that affects my desktop, it negatively impacts on my system. I remember the absolute nightmare with Webshots ages ago, which wouldn't let me UNinstall it after it caused my system to behave badly! Eventually I managed to uninstall some of the components, but not all - they're still there today!

Anyway, I have PSP, Photoshop, Photofiltre and Paint - what one doesn't do, the other will.

As for Watermark Factory, one of my kids uninstalled it in error and considering that I'm the one that asked for it in the first place, I'm pretty upset by this. Maybe it - or another one will be on offer some time in the future.

Have a wonderful day everyone! ;)

I'll pass because of the issue about opening their webpage everytime you run the software. Without the ability to turn that off, it becomes absurd and annoying.

Thanks GOTD!! This was actually fun to play with and I appreciate you guys giving it away for FREE!! WOOOT!! Installed great and runs great!

That pop up for free watermark factory is annoying but easily X'd out since I already have that. Pop-ups that appear when using software offline is ALWAYS annoying. It's understandable if it happens online but not off.

Keep up the great work GOTD! This one is fun and different! 10 Stars!

Software is good for its intended use. It is most useful for people who want to set their personal pictures as desktop wallpaper. For example, most pictures are too bright, conflicting with desktop icons. Using this program, you can darken the picture and apply other effects to make it more suitable as wallpaper. In fact, the program comes with a default wallpaper from this link:

http://www.vladstudio.com/wallpaper/?88

which looks very nice to me.

Its benefit over other graphical programs is its simplicity. This is its only intended use (although it could be used for other things). On the left is a choice of filters (effects) that you can choose to apply to your picture. You can apply as many of them as you wish to get the look you like, which is previewed automatically in the center portion of the program. This combination can then be saved as a "Preset" on the right side of the program for use with other pictures. When you're satisfied with your work (play?), click the "Apply" button to make it your new desktop wallpaper!

Worst thing about it for me: It tries to "call home" (as already mentioned) every time you start it. Therefore--if you don't like that--you have to block it from the internet, since it doesn't seem to have an option to turn that off.

Overall, a pretty good program. I wouldn't pay $20.00 for it though, unless I intended to spend a lot of time making wallpaper.

Thanks Chameleon Desktop and GAOTD.

Even when my OS or a piece of freeware can seemingly do what the GOTD can do, I'll usually try it out to see if it works faster or better. Automatically being directed to the publisher's website when I try to run it is way too lame, however. Not interested in even trying it because of that. Thanks anyway, GOTD!

And thanks, Biggest_Brownest_Whiff(#27), For your daily whine. You sure can "turn a phrase" with hilarious satirical results!! I'm still laughing at the part where you said you had a friend!
Oh well, I'm off to the gym and later I'll be offering free samples of me!
Thanks again, GOTD!! And Hellooooooo...LADIES!!!

I'm on dial-up. I'm trying to talk long distance to my brother and this program tries to log onto the net to access it's homepage every three minutes or so...what a really stupid and incredibly annoying way to set up a program. No matter how good the program is, it isn't worth putting up with this sort of nonsense. Shame too, I'm trying to create family albums to burn to disk for my kids and grandkids and this sort of program would have been a big help in repairing 'damaged' photos....to bad! so sad! maybe some other program will become available sometime soon.

I'm here every day, it's the worst download I did from GAotD.
I like to try software and check the home site of the daily offer.
1-This one is an extended trialware, there is no deference between that installation and the trial they offer in many site on the web site (many distributor), well yes there is a deference this one is not limited to 7 days, but other then that ???
2-It is a nice, cute and fast way to ‘play’ with your picture (not only wallpaper), as mentioned before most of the other picture modifier does that too, not all that easily like that one!
If you can accept to go to the ‘selling site’ that push another software (Nagging!) every time you open this App , then you’ll like it.
3- My security system alert me on the activity of that ‘activate.exe’, it try to go on the net (now & then). I try to delete-it, access refuse!
I’d clean my reg. and used unluck software and reboot, finaly get that…thing off (SPY?), is it clean?
Judge-it by yourself and tell me!

Not a bad little program. Fun to use with just regular pictures but can't see using it for my desktop wallpapers. Don't think I'll keep it as I can apply those effects with PSP on any pic. I don't have a problem with it saying 7 day trial. You need to run the activation.exe first before installation. Opening the webpage is a MAJOR annoyance.

It looks good, but I don't like being forced to go to a website, so I'm going to pass.

#36 - this is one of my big gripes about ALL software - everyone has "readme" files, but so many of them have nothing but legalese in them that it's easy to get to a point where you assume that that's ALL that's in them, so you don't even see them after a while. I'm relatively new here, and the first few days, there was no activate.exe - setup did it all. So then the first time I got one where I had to do the activate.exe, I was surprised that nobody here was complaining (because there ARE a lot of complainers). But I didn't think much of it until the next day when there was another one that needed the activate.exe. Again, nobody was complaining that we only had a 7 day trial. Well, that just seemed impossible to me, so that's when I finally looked at the readme and saw what I was supposed to do.

But what really mystifies me about these people who don't read the readme file is .... how do they think they're going to get an answer? They had to scroll by all the comments to get to where they could leave a comment. If they had read the comments, they would have seen other people posting the same question and getting answers, and they wouldn't have needed to ask the question in the first place. How do they think they're going to get an answer if they don't read the comments?

Two things
1. I could not even find this on their website, had to press help on the program to get to the site.
2. They don't give you a product key even thought it says registered.

Cool program, but wish they would give the key......reformatting soon:(

GOTD, THINK before you put something "free" out for trial. This is a big fat ZERO out of 10 for two reasons; 1. this product is not for sale in the developer's current offerings, so it's not really "free" or a "deal" or something that we should waste our time giving feedback on, and 2. Adware is a NO-NO and Adware that installs with the program and nags you to visit watermark factory.com is a HUGE no-no. Uninstalled in minutes, didn't get to the software itself. Bad Job!

If you use Winzip to unzip do not click on the button that says "unzip and install", click on the button just to unzip then all the files will appear in another window, click then on the activate file, a tiny little window will appear with "successfully activated" and voila the full version is yours forever! No trial versions or 7 days or whatever, not so hard huh?
