I went to use the program but it wanted registration information. Did I miss this somewhere? I thought everything here was a freebie.

Software never worked and keeps giving this error on WinXP SP2

"Butt Shop has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience....."

Many thanks for your input.

Also to be available from the same makers (tongues in cheeks? okay then:)
Taste Anathema Studio
Click sound Recording Studio
Coaster Academy (for marking bad optical media burns)

...meh, it's probably kind of fun. Podcasts can be pretty distracting, it's probably all I can handle if a discussion is really interesting.

As a prior producer of high end electronic presentations, I used Photoshop to create buttons like these. One of the books I used, methodically gave the steps to create these results, which I did often. No I only make presentations of digital photos for my family, but......WHATTA A GIFT!

And yes, questioner #6, these lovely images are easily incorporated into PowerPoint. They could be used as "jump" buttons in Excel, Word or many other programs. Using your own text, style and images, all documents with hyperlinks can be made more professional.

Thank you Kristanix Software for your Button Shop offering. And good job GAOTD for continuing to offer quality programs that are fun and uselful.

How will the company ever find out you are using a button commercially ?? Give me a break, its an image people. They have no rights to an image you create, they dont own the button trademark. There is no way for them to even track that. How stupid to even put that in the description. And like someone else said there are plenty of websites that even creates buttons. I am using it commercially, what are you going to do about it ?

Very good, the only problem I experienced was trying to reopen saved buttons. It did work when I saved each of them as a template in a group.

I really enjoy using all this software for free and I use all of it for business. Business is my passtime. I don't like commercials either so I don't use it in commercials. But since there are no spys or malware in it and it can't be tracked, chances are that when I use the weekend screensavers at work, business will get better.

Website buttons shouldn't be used on websites because the web is a business.Get it? The commercial use "contract" here is not enforcable and sounds ridiculous over and over and over as business applications keep appearing here. I love GAOTD and appreciate the programs, but get off the silly non-commercial kick because you can't control that.

It didn't work. When I tried to install it the program took a minute to tell me that it couldn't connect to giveaway. Then when I tried to go onto Giveaway the server was timed out. Then the day had passed.

# 23:

In addition to the .png format, ButtonShop 3 can save static buttons in 8 other formats [.bmp, .jpg/.jpeg, .gif, .ico/.icon, .emf, .exif, .tif/.tiff, .wmf] as well.

With Pulsing Images, ButtonShop 3 provides both GIF and TIFF animation formats.

Hi all:

ButtonShop 3 downloaded, installed, & ran with no problems on Win XP SP2.

To my great surprise [and delight], Button Shop 3 looks almost exactly like Web Button Maker Deluxe 3. Upon checking the "About..." tab in both programs, I discovered that, sure enough, both are Kristanix Software. A cursory comparison revealed that a Mirror Effect has been added while the Glow, Inner Stroke, and Outer Stroke effects have been moved to a new tab "Edge Effects". ButtonShop 3 successfully loaded a template I made for Web Button Maker Deluxe 3.

When I created my latest website, I initially used the on-line GIMP buttonmaker at FlamingText . However, I switched to Web Button Maker Deluxe 3 because it would automatically resize the button width according to the length of the text string. FlamingText, instead, would keep the button the same width and use a smaller font size for longer text; the resultant font size variations made for a discordant appearance among an array of buttons. I also subsequently discovered that Web Button Maker Deluxe could also make multi-line buttons which FlamingText couldn't do.

Anyways, I was very impressed with Web Button Maker Deluxe 3 and so, accordingly, highly recommend the latest version, ButtonShop 3.

Thank you very much GAOTD and Kristanix Software for this offering.

#120 yes, you can use it to create content for sites. There is nothing in the agreement with the software from the vendor stating otherwise. In fact, if you look in the help file you are even encouraged to give away copies of the software....however with the GAOTD install I doubt the version you download today will work for anyone you gave it to after today. Even if it did, that would be a shady thing to do.

The non-commercial use clause is in the GAOTD install package, and relates to their software. Ultimately the developer of Button Shop has sole discretion on how the software is use, and nothing I have found says that it can't be used any way you see fit.

Thumps up this time.
Yes I now I do not give this on a fast rate.

It is not difficult to make a button, but it is timewasting.
Also I can not afford having Photoshop so I have to do it with GIMP.
And now 200 buttons for zero euro, that's what I call a deal !

But Kristianics have to reconsider their price.
30 $ for that program is really too much.
What would you say if M$ did the same ???
You will be furious and enraged !

Thank you very much GAOTD ! Nice present for Freeware users.

I am at a loss as to the criticisms of this software based on its reliance on dotNET. I am aware of the general nature of criticisms of this run time environment but for the user the main one is probably only the relatively large initial download of the framework.

On the other hand dotNET programs can offer real advantages - including security (no its not perfect but it is likely to be better than a small developers security precautions especially when they want to focus on their program itself), resource efficiency (again not perfect but much software runs better using this environment) and the avoidance of dll hell.
Its true that it is owned by Microsoft - but this place is not exactly open source heaven and anyway, everyone here is running an MS OS anyway.

Layout intuitive and nice, semi-limited options but either a good base, or good for quick customer buttons: Worth Downloading ...

Your program is registered Automatically after you install it.

To Double-Check this, just click on the last button in tool bar called "About" it tells you "Full Version ... Registered"

No problem with the installation on my Window XP. It's very user friendly. The interface is so easy to look at that I was able to quickly create 2 buttons using the software in less than 3 minutes. Actually, 1 minute if I did not have to send the rest of the 2 minutes changing templates to see which one is compatible with my web page background.

Thanks to the software developers for offering this software free today. Thank you for the design too. Awesome! 5 stars from me!!! A must have if you are a webmaster who has so-so skills with Photoshop.

The comments so far have been from hard-core geeks today. Non-web designers use GAOTD , too.
And what is this great emerging philosophy: beggars can't be choosers? Is that what GAOTD is supposed to be about?
Enjoy making buttons is what I say. Making things for the computer with the computer about the computer. Wow.

.NET framework...even Apple will go there eventually because all of the web will belong to Microsoft...they are into Africa, Russia and especially China...these three will run the Internet one day.

Google has a single algorithm and 500,000 external hard drives patched to their servers...that's history.

I usually use Macromedia Fireworks, as it's what we have at school, which is very efficient. However, for the average individual, you can't afford to spend £££££ on it so this program, even for about £15 is a really good bargain for quick to make buttons, and especially as it's free today!

Nice one GAOTD! Thumbs up from me! :)

Button Shop is a cute little program. While the web page styles that used a lot of buttons (not just 1 or 2) aren’t common anymore, these buttons are ideal for interactive training, kiosks, &/or presentations, whether on DVD, using Flash, PowerPoint, or whatever. They could also fit in with some regular, video DVD, menu designs. While the program does take a somewhat canned approach - it’d be hard to create something truly unique - it is a quick and easy tool not designed to compete with full fledged graphics programs... if it did it wouldn’t be quick & easy anymore.

Folders created = 1 program folder, 1 folder in My Documents, 1 folder in the All Users (Vista) start menu, & (also Vista) a Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\Xenocode folder. Registry entries are pretty much limited (aside from Windows housekeeping stuff) to an uninstall key at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Button Shop

Mr. Tor Martin Kristiansen (#79) , congratulations about yor software!
At yours website http://www.kristanixsoftware.com/buttonshop/usage.php we can read "Button Shop includes more than 150 button templates and 50 textures, ready to use. All these great designs are fully customizable. You can tailor any of them to fit your needs perfectly. " OR "The program comes packed with more than 200 professionally designed, ready-to-use button templates and background textures." at your press release.
So, i can not find this 200 templates! Were is a .zip package with templates? Can we download this?
The software is really free and full? (like if i payed 29.99) ?
Thank you, Nando.

All you haters, perpetrators, detractors and denouncers, Get Over yourselves!
This is a fantastic program, it says what it does and does what it says. I shared this with my 60-year old Grandmother and she was making buttons for her Genealogy website within 10 minutes. Any one want to guess how long it would take a complete novice to accomplish the same thing in Photoshop, Flash, Macromedia, Illustrator, etc?

Good Job guys!

BTW- I do have expertise in all the High-End Graphics programs, but I can still appreciate the beauty of the program's straight-forward approach. Not everyone who wants to work on their own website is a pizza-faced adolescent who lives and breathes silicon.

Nice software, and I do like this install approach much better than many of the previous that had two applications.

I do have one minor gripe with the software. It's really nothing huge, but the buttons should also have a onmouseup event associated with the button press. As it is, the code generated only changes the button back if you move the mouse off of it. It would be much more aesthetically pleasing if the button also changes back when the mouse button is released. Granted, that can be added after the fact, but this small addition could really improve the software IMHO.

It would also be nice to have a way to have a one click solution to simulating a keypress. For example, in photoshop reversing the bevel does this quickly and in one action. I can't find the analog to that in this software.

On the whole, great product. It's quick, rather easy, and completely straightforward. Very nice, and being able to save buttons as templates for quick access later is a nice feature.

If you want a decent freewarev button maker, maybe this one:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/freebuttons.html - Snapfiles are very reliable in the quality of their selections.

http://www.alistapart.com/articles/sprites - a visit to ALA's articles is highly recommended, this is one of several articles covering the topic of doing rollovers and menu drops using pure CSS, no javascript - won't help you make the buttons, but shows the best way to use images.

@Bonnie L. Snyder (#64): Check out the post about Accessible Image Replacement on Mike Rundle's Weblog. It's about a method to replace text with images using CSS, BUT without trouble for screen readers like JAWS.

Btw, I checked out your website, and I think it is great that someone takes their time to provide links to and information about technology for the blind and visually impaired.

Works as advertised. Really neat piece of software, for making buttons in a short period of time. Buttons will look like buttons found elsewhere on the Internet, but that's not a problem when they look good. And they simply do look good.

Nice interface, simple to work with.

@ #81, peli11:
And, I think, the text description of buttons should be readable by the screen reader (#64), which is not possible when using purely graphic buttons.
That's when one uses the ALT attribute with images. It's designed purpose is to be an alternative to images and this should work well with screen readers.

(Do not abuse the ALT attribute as some sort of a hint pop-up, use the TITLE attribute for that.)
