oh and by the way #65 I don't "search the net on a daily basis to promote" BID. I've come to give away of the day for months as well and was happy to see them offering something that I use and really like. I have no affiliation with the GOTD or Antibody other than I'm a fan of BOTH.

"Anyone falling for comments such as Reb #55 is, to say the least, naive."

@ #65

Why would they be "naive" to believe the truth? I use BID on a daily basis and have for months. I did that search for "free image downloader." downloaded the trial version of BID and liked it so much that I PAID for it. if you go to Antibody's website you'll see they even have a unasked for Compliment from me posted on their homepage.
I run an antivirus 24/7 and have never gotten an alert from BID. and while it's not perfect software it works better than anything else I've ever tried for similar purposes. This is by far the best image downloader there is and support for the paid version is top notch

Re: Problems Registering
The program needed to be registered after installing. The instructions were included in the download.

If you missed it and your installation is still not registered please do the following to register:
Start Bulk Image Downloader
Click on the About tab
Click on the 'Click here to enter or change your registration code'
enter GIVEAWAYOFTHEDAY as the code when prompted.

This will only work if you installed using the GAOTD installation.

Re: Calling Home
I have consulted with all our developers regarding connections to our server and can provide you with the following information:

1. The program connects to our server to validate the registration code when installing.

2. It checks for new versions after the first install and every 24hrs - you can disable this by disabling the 'check for updates' option in the configuration.

3. It will validate registration codes periodically - about once every 15 days. This validation will only be done if the registration server is available at the time.

To #62:
That Bulk Image Downloader extension is the same as the one included in the installation. It requires BID to be installed on your PC to function.

To #63:
You are the first person to report such a problem with ME. Please contact us via the web page so that we can investigate further.

To GAOTD - thanks for this wonderful opportunity. It's great to receive 'unfiltered' comment and criticism. We'll do our best to improve.

If anyone else has questions or problems please contact us via our web site.

Thanks!

This software did not accomplish anything for me. Unless you are grabbing stuff from a website that is free its worthless. It would NOT get anything from a subscription website that requires any kind of login. I deleted it from my machine.

There's always one, or even several, that have always used the offered program for weeks, months, years. They are always so in awe of it. They always think that everyone should install it.

Let's think about that shall we? How many times have you been so impressed by a program that you keep searching the net, on a daily basis, to keep an eye out for a possibility to promote the software package?

I loaded this on both a Windows XP and a ME system. The XP installed & ran OK.

Under Windows ME, installing went OK; however, whereas running "Bulk Image Downloader" was OK, running the "Bulk Image Downloader Queue Manager" consistently caused my system's USER RESOURCES to drop to nothing/zero from which I could not recover.

Once USER RESOURCES bottom out for a few seconds in Windows 9x/Me then further normal use of the computer is typically futile.

I tried to CTRL-ALT-DEL, and request that Bulk Image Downloader be terminated, or another time simply request a system shutdown, but either method still resulted in a hung system (although I could still move the mouse cursor around).

My only option was a forced power-down then a fresh Start (and let ScanDisk automatically run to fix any potential disk errors due to the lack of a proper shutdown).

On another attempt at running I exited/closed/terminated every non-essential process (including anti-virus) leaving pretty much a bare-bones OS which left GDI Resources at 94% and USER Resources at 99%. I then launched the Queue Manager and watched as the USER Resources once again go to zero.

(OK, the one utility I then ran to view the % resources was TaskInfo by www.iarsn.com , a utility somewhat like Microsoft's Sysinternals Process Explorer. Like PE, it's excellent for troubleshooting issues.)

Due to encountering this problem towards the end of the offer period I haven't yet tried this application on a web site -- I wanted to try and get this comment submitted. I'm hoping that (on the Windows ME system installation) the Queue Manager is not necessary.

Hopefully this can be resolved and BID offered again after implementing some of the prior feature and fix suggestions of others.

To: Antibody Support

 Reason : "Call-Home "

It appears that you are employing " Packer.Obsidium " as a
means of trieing to "protect " your software product.

In consideration of this: How can you possibly "explain-away "
the "call-home " aspect of your Product ? When you have already
taken steps to protect the software.

To #37 & #39:
How can you rate a program, and how it ranks amongst it's peers, unless you know what else is out there.

In the mid 80s I created a very basic text editor in gwbasics, on a M$-DOS O/S. It was a piece of junk. How do I know? Because I compared it to other text editors. Mainly I did it just to test my programing abilities. If I was to try and sell it as the best thing since sliced bread I would do everyone a dis-service, even those people who never used a text editor before. Reviews should compare the software to other software, and it lets the developers see what other people are using, and what they expect.

Sorry, but a review is not complete unless you have something to compare it to. How do you rate a hotel room, or butter, if you have never been to a hotel before, or eaten butter? Take Paint Shop Pro vs. PhotoShop. PSP is currently about 1/5 the price of PS, with 90% of the abilities, and does everything I need, yet others will spend five times more for that finial 10%, because they need it, and are well informed.
