Came back to comment that although I have Vista, I downloaded it and so far I really like playing. Of course it can be addicting. ;o)
It is nice to have a Majongg or Taipei, whatever, it works. Thanks so much for a game I want and can use.

I once had a game like this on an old 386 that was freeware, but long since lost the disc. What a pleasure to get a similar program back! Installation was quick and painless - another winner for Merscom, though I am surprised that this game, unlike Buko Sudoku and Buku Kakuru, doesn't offer a window option, only full-screen. I have yet to try all the variations of this game, but it was well worth the download. Thanks for another winning game, Merscom!

This is the first time I've ever posted a comment in here but I couldn't seem to refrain. I've seen a few people have pointed out the fact that GGAOTD has been awol, due to a probably much needed and deserved vacation. Apparently those who can only seem to complain about the many games being offered at this time never really look at anything else on the page since it states this fact in the upper right hand corner (or it does at least on my page). I say boo to those who have nothing constructive to say or add to these comments.

We keep getting people like #33 and #69 and they promise they will stop coming here, which is great! as we'll have a lot less whining and complaining and have actual comments on the programs posted, but my question is, why do they not keep their promises to stay away and continue to return?

This game is absolutely beautiful--just a pleasure to use. I'm not an experienced gamer (being an old lady), but I really like things like this where I don't have to blow anything up or try to hit a fast-moving target. Not being raised in the video-game generation, I just don't have the necessary dexterity to play the fast games.
Just a gorgeous and fun game--thanks so much.

Heh guys and ladies why complain, everything here is free, so take it or leave it, if you don't want it leave it be! I can't understand why people are always complaining about something that is free!! Complain when it isn't free anymore and that is what will happen if there is too much belly aching about the site content!! Give it a break!

Thanks GOATD great game as usual, love MahJong, addicted to it as a matter of fact, love games that require my brain to actually wake up.

Download and install went fine as usual, running XPhome sp2. Game is small so one can run other stuff along, no problem, nice for those with smaller RAM and such.

Have a question though isn't it supposed to be a Merscom game? It says Absolutist, don't have a problem with them mind you I have many of their free games they usually give around XMas and Valentine, nice peoples, maybe that is why the game is so small, since give away from Absolutist have always been small as a rule of thumb.

Oh and a word to the winers, no one is holding you here by force, none of us signed a binding contract with GOATD nor GGAOTD, so instead of complaining, why don't you winers just find yourself another place where they will give you good "bugs free" full program and games, you won't find any other like the GAOTD team here, why don't you peoples just shut up, if it is something you don't like, don't like don't download, if you don't download and don't install well don't take valuable bandwith with your complains, if 1 day I can't get either a game or a program I don't make a fuss, after all these are free.......and no one is forced to eat the same menu, we are not robots, so if something is not good for me, might be a super program for the guy next door, so what? I won't throw a tantrum.....

I am some what new here...but what the heck does it make a difference when or what GAOTD wishes to post as a Give-A-Way of the day.
As long as it is a mix and not the same theme all the time. I for one
loved this game, and thought it was great. And had been looking to buy it instead it came to my door.
Unlike yesterday the program for the iphone...I had no use for...but why yell, there were others here that could use it. I like all the movie editing and converters for music programs that have been posted, but also know everyone gets tired of them.
Free is free anyway we look at it.....if you do not want or like something...seems simple enough to me...just do not download it

Keep up the good work...

Not a bad little game (if I only knew how to play, lol)and had the time. But thanks anyway! As #74 said, why complain if something is free? Just change the channel! The only ones that I've had an issue with is some technical problem when downloading. And that's hardly GOTD's fault anyway. Though I suppose (or would hope) they've been tested first.

And #16, um, you don't have to be "chinese" in order to play, like you don't have to be Scottish to play golf. Sigh.

Here's another good site for freebies (including games). Again, like #17, I have absolutely no vested interest in this site, it's just provided me with some cool stuff: http://softwaresanta.com/smf/

I'm noticing a "gap" between music tracks. If you find this distracting, you may prefer to use your own music playlist and simply mute the in-game music. They're also midi files, where playback can also vary from computer-to-computer (and thus not play as the developer intended.)

Other than that, I agree with the 15-minute review.

Keep in mind not all of the games with Merscom's brand is actually made by them. They're a game distributor, you see. Today's game is made by Absolutist - don't believe me? Look at the top of the splash screen while the game is loading.
Fortunately, however, Merscom seems to have a good taste in games. :>

Ok, for those who cannot read before you put in comments, above where you put your name, it says:
"Please comment only the software here. If you have technical problems or suggestions on our project, please leave us a note in our forums."

Now, back to the program
This is a good one for this type of game. You have the classic version but you also have the word and math versions which are a nice twist if you want a change of pace.

Came back to say this program really *is* as good as the reviews say. Beautiful graphics and several options you can play with make it really interesting! You can change tiles, add in words via the editor, and even play in 'math mode.' It's fantastic! A lot of effort went into the creation of this game and, as is usual with Merscom, they didn't leave any loose ends. It's a well put together package. All that and it downloaded in 8 seconds flat.

Huge thumbs up!

Hello All,

Downloaded and registered just fine.
Moderate graphics with options to adjust sound and music.
Nice interface, easy to use.
Would like to see an option to shut off timer for slower players.
4 modes of play plus an editor to make your own layout.
Overall this is a great game, that players of this type should enjoy very much.
Nice job Merscom LLC. Thank you again GAOTD nice to review.

#59 and #69 and all the other whiners, don't let the door hit you on the way out. I for one do not want to see curse words on the site, if you do not agree to the editing then go get your own site and you can do what you want, if it was up to me I would have banned you alltogether, but oh I forgot it is a FREE site and you don't have to register, you may also find that it is an automatic function. Thank heavens for editing eh.

Mike (#50) stated:

the only concern I have is that the opening page of the download states it expires on the 27th of August, I just hope this is not true as I would like to keep this.

The "expiry" refers to how long the file can be downloaded from Wikifortio, and has nothing to do with the give-away. GotD will likely remove the download at the end of the day anyway.

...at the beginnings there was only the GAOTD site with one game every so often: are you ready to play this game going in the past?
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/page/30/
Until this summer there was also the GGAOTD site(the first G is for Game)now,
ok for the vacations;
ok if you changed your mind about the business days;
(ok also if it was one day for game, one day for software)
maybe was just a distraction...
and tomorrow we'll find a great piece of sotware
I always say thanks to GAOTD+GGAOTD

to #41 (Whiterabbit) - Thanks for your detailed info. It always lets me know if this is somwthing that I think I can see and use.

As someone who is visually impaired, it is almost impossible to see the detail in traditional mahjong tiles. Having the options to choose other symbols makes this a suitable option. Until now, I had only been able to find suitable versions for my sight at Kewel Box and Looney Tunes, I actually looked at buying a Mahjong game yesterday while out shopping. Decent prices, but took up way to much harddrive. Really glad I decided to wait. This company always seems to have great games. I'm looking forward to many hours of fun with this game!!! THANK YOU GAOTD!!!

I suspect those who whine about not getting exactly what they want every day are the ones who wouldn't pay a penny for decent software anyway. I have found very few of the programs offered here to be of use for me since I'm just a work-at-home-mom with a tiny website, but I do enjoy the games, they take my mind off the tedious order-processing and packaging that comes with my business.

All that said, this is a fun little version of Mahjongg. Merscom does a good job with all of their games - there are a few that I still have on my machine even after downloading them a few months ago. In this particular game, the word and number twists are quite a nice change from the typical symbols that I can't read. This is a good addition to my game library. Thanks GOTD!

Whats with all the crying ? I guess some things will never change, and this is one of them. Seems no matter how many times people post the cry babies just never seem to get it or a totally new person comes to this site and the second they don't have there way, the complain.
People, people, people ! When are you ever going to get it ? the stuff offered here is totally FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no one is twisting your arm or holding a gun to your head to download any of the giveways period. What part of FREE do you not get or understand ????? I almost wish these nice people at GAOTD would go offline for a week. OMG. you cry babies wouldn't know how to act. Get the hell over yourselves already.
You people make me sick. I hope they do games all week long just to piss you ungreatful fools off.
Stop worrying about what GAOTD is giving away today ! Take it or leave it !! Really, it's that simple. But I am willing to bet, the same cry babies will be back day after day to complain.
If ya don't like it, hey, heres an idea for you, go spend some cash at a store and get what ya want.
Thank you very much give away of the day team for all you do. Some of us here really are adults and appreciate what yous do.

@53 - That's because we play games and release our stress instead of bottling it up. :)

Giveaway of the Day does not inherently define what they are giving away. They could just as easily give away toe socks and fit the title of the site, if not the mission. They promise software... and let's see. Installs on a computer, runs on a computer, programmed on a computer? Looks like software to me. The idea that people believe happiness and satisfaction is owed them is a source of constant amazement to me. GAOTD tries to make a win-win situation for both the consumer and the publisher, and this is the grief they get for taking some time off and combining? Wow. Just... wow.

holy crap people! Now, some of you *might* remember the days of SimTel where you had to wade thru piles of freeware to find what you wanted. And I guess they are still there as repositories. I come here to read the comments cuz they are so dang funny...if ya dont like what you see come again another day...its free by gosh! Now complaints that it is spyware are legit, but if its a reduced version..again...its FREE! wooot!!! Free...can you understand...free...ie...ya dont pay for it? Sure it might be a teaser to upgrade but if you dont like it..get rid of it. Now..myself...I have yet to download much cuz typically there isnt a lot that I find usefull. The thing from yesterday..mp4 maker...I have a version of Roxio that I PAID FOR (wow..imagine that) that will do that for me. So, no use for this software. But who knows...maybe one time I will find something good. There was a game on the mac years back...hmmm..battle something...sorta like risk...loved that game! now if someone had that for the PC..I might download it. But stop the whining about whats here. Puleeeeeeeese!!! *discalaimer: this was intended for a small portion of the readers to laugh and giggle and leave others perplexed*

I'm reposting this for #11 and others:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/912

For those of you wanting real Mah Jong (the four player kind):

Four Winds Mah Jong
http://www.4windsmj.com/intro.htm

They also have a PDA version available for Windows Mobile. I play it on my Dell Axim x50v all the time. The game has several themes (free editor, too), tile sets, and rule sets. You can even save games. It also gives LOTS of statistical information.

You guys HAVE to get this version. It turned me on to traditional Mah Jong. I know I sound like an advertisement, but it's *that* good.

True 4-player Mahjong:
Four Winds Mah Jong

I got my copy back in September and now I'm looking to purchase the physical set and play locally.

If I sound like a shill, it' only because people keep confusing the solitaire version with the traditional game, and I want to share my newfound love (within the past year) and help introduce the word about Mahjong. Plus, there really aren't nearly as many traditional Mahjong computer games as there are solitaire ones, and the ones that are out there aren't well known and are hard to find.

Excellent game. A keeper for sure. Thank you GoTD. You are appreciated EVERY DAY for the free softwares, games, screensavers etc that you offer to us daily. I especially like good repeats, so if we have to redo our pc's we get the chance to get something we really liked replaced. For example: My favorite all time software that I have ever gotten here was that really nice clock screensaver that showed the working parts. I really liked that one. My favorite screensaver ever. Anyway, keep up the good work, you are VERY appreciated! I look forward to seeing what you offer EVERY DAY, no matter what it is. Someone, somewhere out there will like it and want it. After all, that is the point of all this isnt it? A wide variety of offers so that eventually there is something offered for EVERYONE? Thank You!

Download and install went fine - winxp pro sp2 on AMD64 dual processor/dual core. No sign of PUP (Potentially Unwanted Programs) activity.

Game play can be full screen or windowed. The program behaves well in a multi-monitor environment. The music is a touch repetitive for my tastes, but my wife says it seems to add game ambience. There is a standard selection of solitaire layouts, four diffferent play paradigms, but as noted above there is no play against opponents. There are also two tile face sets, my wife and I prefer the default.

A good GiveAwayoftheDay, but the retail price is too high. If these are on store shelves, they'll be available for stocking stuffers at less than half the price in a couple of months.

This is a quick and easy install, much better game than playing solitaire or the other games that come with windows. The alternative versions should prove interesting and the game play does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out, all in all a good game to get them mind going and to help you relax a little. I would give a thumbs up and thanks again for a good download, the only concern I have is that the opening page of the download states it expires on the 27th of August, I just hope this is not true as I would like to keep this.

Together with my Suduko it should make for enjoyable game play.
