Helps you get back all kinds of lost or deleted data on Android devices.

Bot Revolt is a type of program that lives way down deep inside the networking code on your computer - the stuff in Windows that actually makes/receives network connections for you - and inspects everything that flows past it. It monitors all inbound communication to your computer. The software scans automatically every .002 seconds looking for any suspicious or unauthorized communication.

Many security programs do not have what is called outbound protection. This means that they can not control information that goes out of your computer. This is extremely dangerous, considering that hackers and bots have ways to go around inbound firewalls. Bot Revolt's outbound protection software uses our growing database of trusted programs and program behavior so the Bot Revolt can make security decisions safely and automatically. It monitors program installation, registry and file changes, keyboard and mouse code control, and other potentially dangerous behaviors.

Note: this program includes 6 months subscription.

Bot Revolt provides special coupon code for 1 year subscription: BOTR-0HUI-VHRO for all GOTD users ($9.99 instead of $47.00). The offer expires together with the giveaway.

I´ll give it a chance. But not this time...

Maybe next version is more stable, unlimited runtime and not involved with any unwanted add-ons and registration issues...

Browsers are not the only software that communicates on the network. Most stealthy malware uses the command prompt, which is not blocked by most filter programs. this is just one example of stealth malware in windows. Quality Rootkits are immune to filter software also. This offering is no more than paranoia software for the uninformed.

Dear fellow posters and readers.

There is no doubt that many here appreciate Giovanni's input, but unfortunately too often he posts links to dangerous sites. He has done it again today.
This time it is the link to fayetracker. After clicking that link, I got immediate warning to not enter the site, but unfortunately it was probably too late, because my browser got instantly hijacked.

Just a word of warning.

Regards.

I use IE10 and Spybot Search & Destroy to immunise. It adds a list of sites to the restricted sites so they are blocked directly without any third party software of a dubious nature being involved whatsoever. You can check the list is empty, immunise, check the list, it's full, you can clear the immunise and the list is empty again, total control!!!! over what is blocked and what is not as you can remove anything you personally don't want in the list yourself via the remove button in IE.

When I think of all the times some 'thing' rewrote my registry and added a redirect in a webpage I was opening and gave me a 'new' home page and etc... It really angers me! So I'm trying this - no matter what amount of free there is to it! And I humbly thank you for it!

P.S. #6 You try writing a five or six thousand lines of code and see if you're not casting about for some free (public domain) source code!

Oh yes..Comodo AV is not the best one on the MKT, but if used along with CIS it gives you outstanding protection against malware.
Just out of curiosity: what AV are you using instead of that of Comodo? A FREE one (AVG?? BITDEFENDER?? AVAST?? AVIRA?) or a commercial AV?

@Frank, #21... Are you serious? Do you really believe that there are twice as many websites on the Internet as there are websites? Do you realize how illogical that is? I've seen debtclock org's website over the years, and if anything, it has erred on the low side of reality a little. Maybe it's off by a few percent, but that's in comparison with thousands of percent of error on the botrevolt site.

This program is nothing more than an outbound firewall. As Giovanni said Comodo Internet Security comes with their award winning Comodo Firewall (I turn off the virus protection as their anti-virus is still a little behind the security leaders). There firewall is 2 way, inbound and outbound, and comes preset to allow most known safe programs to send outbound communications. I have been using their firewall for about a decade now and have never had a complaint or problem with it, and it is free, for life.

It is important to have some form of blocking. There is already some protection provided by most modern web browsers. As an example, Firefox provides:

"Phishing and Malware Protection works by checking the sites that you visit against lists of reported phishing and malware sites. These lists are automatically downloaded and updated every 30 minutes or so when the Phishing and Malware Protection features are enabled."

Firefox uses https://www.stopbadware.org/

Explorer is discussed here:

I tried this out a couple of weeks ago on a test machine. I found that, as Ashraf says, it did not seem to block any malicious website. What it DID do was to block some legitimate sites including our email provider. needless to say it was uninstalled without delay. Thumbs all the way down.

6 months only for a poor program like this?? Come on...you must be kidding dude!!

Seems to me more an antiphishing tool rather than a firewall...

So besides Bitdefender Traffic Light, try this brand-new FREE & PORTABLE tool nobody seems to be aware of:

http://www.fayetracker.com/index.php?lang=en

See also:
https://phrozensoft.com/index.php?&page=processdl&id=21

Otherwise just use a solid FREE FIREWALL like PrivateFireall or ZoneAlarm, but to settle things once and for all why not grab
a GREAT FREE SECURITY SUITE software like COMODO INTERNET SECURITY bundled with the award-winning Comodo Firewall?

http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php

==> FREE forever <== Enjoy!!!!

Be aware!!!

This kind of software is NOT protecting you from malicious websites, but recording every website you are surfing on. It simply acts as a datalogger for your surfing behaviour.

The absolute best freeware firewall I have ever used was Kerio's v2.1, and I still do. Absolutely ZIP, ZERO, NADA, NOTHING gets in or out of your machine without your permission!

It's very easy to set permanent "rules" in it to allow or deny any or all TCP/IP/UDP actions so you are not bothered by constant prompts. Also very easy to edit or delete your previously created rules.

Runs flawlessly on XP and earlier but I have never tried it on later versions of Windows so I can't vouch for it on those.

Find it on page 7 here: http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/

#9: "Bitdefender TrafficLight is the best way to a completely secure Web browsing experience. It is a FREE cross-browser add-on that intercepts, processes, and filters all Web traffic, blocking any malicious content and taking browser security to new levels"

Minor PITA is you often cannot download files after clicking the button or link to allow you to visit whatever blocked page anyway. Minor because I open the link in a new tab, turn the filtering off, then download via the 1st tab, turning filtering back on in the 2nd afterward. But it's better than McAfee blocking sites that might allow what they consider illegal media content, not that anyone should download illegal content, I just don't think it right that they should play that role.

* * *

#13: "The correct idea is that you can visit those very interesting “malicious websites” (if you want to) and still not get infected or harmed in anyway."

The *Only* way I could see that working 100% is if you booted into one of the WinPE sort of Windows OS off a DVD where Windows was running solely in RAM with no hdd access, & then preferably not connected through your router [those get compromised too]. Obviously Windows can't write to a closed DVD, & providing you let the system sit powered off long enough so the RAM lost it's content, anything downloaded would be gone. The hardest part is if your PC/laptop allowed you to easily unplug your hard drive(s) -- using tools from reboot.pro it can take a 1/2 hour or less to set up the DVD with your mini-Windows OS.

IMHO the 2nd safest is using a VM like VirtualBox, with a dedicated USB network adapter.

FWIW, the problem with over-relying on white or black lists is two-fold:
1) Innocents get blocked
2) White listed sites regularly get compromised while new malicious sites go live constantly to avoid black listing.
.
That's NOT to say don't use anything that has white lists & black lists -- just don't over rely on them, figuring that if your security software allows it, it must be safe. Not all of the millions of PCs/laptops that make up bot nets were/are running without current security software. And the fact is putting malicious code on web sites works, or the black hats wouldn't do it. They don't just rely on people not running up to date security apps, but often target sites that cater to biz, science/tech, & gov pros [because of their higher value] whose systems at work & home all run that stuff.

I was hoping that Bot Revolt worked -- I would have liked to use it with VMs when checking out unknown software & sites, but Ashraf's simple test rules that out. Microsoft's Security Essentials is light weight [MS cautions you about it], & comes without a firewall. Firewall apps like ZoneAlarm are too heavy -- all sorts of problems running it in XP & Vista unless I have it turned off during Windows start [may be why as Ashraf reports Bot Revolt doesn't autostart by default]. As it is I have to have auto-update turned off in BitDefender in XP & Vista or experience the same sort of problems, where Windows fails to start. If those security suites have that much of an effect with or on quad core systems, a VM allocated a single core & reduced RAM would really suffer. Oh well.

The advantages of the tool have been described by the developer.
For convenience, I summarize here its disadvantages, as presented in preceding comments:

• License is for only 6 months
• At this time, user rating is 3 to 1 thumbs down and no really positive comment
• Getting rid of the program is unclear and may prove difficult
• It asks to have a MicroSquelch program installed
• Does not seem to perform well. In this respect, there also seem to be false counting and claims
• It appears to make commercial profit from the free work of others, though to be fair, this applies to many commercial programs

Been using since inception . It is terrible if you wish to search the web ( surf ) . Many URLs are blocked . It makes it very difficult to do things on the net that you normally do . I shut mine down after a little more than a week . Nothing wrong with trying it but , please note that you may have pages not open and this is probably the culprit . Nothing pops up on screen to tell you either . You are just blocked and have to figure out why . The tray icon will blink but , unless you are looking right at it , it is not very easy to see . Just an honest review here . Like the idea . Just not ready for prime time .

Blocks off malicious websites?
Then Internet surfing would be tasteless and no fun.

It is like taking a tour to a city half way around the world, but stay strictly within the hotel ALL of the time that you are there. When it is time to leave, pack up and go home.

What an insipid and lifeless tour you have just experienced.

The correct idea is that you can visit those very interesting "malicious websites" (if you want to) and still not get infected or harmed in anyway.

First this isn't free (only 6 months) and on top of that it doesn't work.

On the website the counter with the so-called blocked IP addresses is just as simple script adding a figure every tenth of a second or so.

//this runs on the page load to intialize the counters
jQuery( document ).ready( function($) {
number:1180084306, formatNumberOptions:
{format:"#,###,###,###",locale:"us"},
end_number:1181950000,

In other words, this seems a scam. I wonder if those Facebook people know their faces are being used?

If you go to the product's homepage and click on Why Join, there's a page saying 'We're Connected' showing icons with names of organizations like 'Spamhaus' and 'Spamcop' on them. Only two of the nine icons actually take you anywhere. The other seven aren't connected to anything. Very odd, if Bot Revolt is using all their databases as they claim. I think I'll give this GOTD a miss.

Ashraf disparages it - and so do I.

It demanded to have a MicroSquelch program installed --> C++ I think it was.

Then when it was installed, the Bot Revolt claimed it was already running - though there was NO evidence that it was in Control panel's "Programs & Features" NOR in Task Manager.

It was totally UNABLE to do a "re-install" on my W7 x64 & I have had no chance to insert the serial number : 28D4-CF01-F00C-789C.

Ashraf - in his commentary - said it needed to be manually started - BUT there ain't no Icon to be found for it anywhere!

Trying to remove any trace of this program seems impossible - I can NOT find any trace of it - nor will "System Restore" wind back the clock to the last restore point - claiming that my anti-virus program is stopping it..... though whether that is the abortionate Bot Revolt OR my long used Grisoft anti-virus program - I just don't know!

My jaundiced view? AVOID BOT REVOLT !!!

PeerBlock, PeerGuardian? Both are free and so are the blocklists.

http://blog.botrevolt.com/bot-revolt-software-is-based-off-of-peer-block-peer-guardian/

Not sure why anyone should pay $47 for a program that doesn't even work like advertised even when it's actually based on above softwares source codes. And knowing that they crippled even the available features from comparable free PeerBlock/PeerGuardian is even more a reason to skip.

http://bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=20514

The idea of profiting from the work of others, who gave their time, labor and money on the condition that their work be freely available to all, is repugnant to me. This applies to the blocklists they're using, the open-source code they used to build their application, and the many people who donated cash to keep these projects afloat.

Even most video converter applications are based on OpenSource/non-commercial Freeware, without those "improved" products it wouldn't be such an over-saturated field with nearly non-outstanding products compared all of them with each other.

It's similar to BTGuard and it's MyEn Tunnel codebase, on which it relies, without MyEn Tunnel BTGuard wouldn't even exist and since the original MyEn Tunnel developer won't support "free to commerical" practices where the origin has been tried to hide (removed MyEn Tunnel license file), future development has been stopped so other people will no longer get updated code for free from it's original creator while making money out of it at the same time.

That is where programming evolution stops just because there are companies out there that are too lazy to develop their own products from scratch.

*According the developer, Bot Revolt has a database of over 1 billion known malicious websites and IP addresses (I cannot verify this claim)
*Monitors both inbound and outbound connections
*Works alongside your anti-virus or anti-malware program with little to no conflict
