I don't find most of the comments to be very useful. While it's true that most people don't need batch image processing, and there are plenty of alternatives, including free, most image editors/processors have some different features. For example, I find the multiple grayscale algorithms in this to be interesting and potentially useful. If one doesn't need color, it's much cheaper to print in grayscale. This is a small little program, the ad is because they want you to buy their full-featured product--obviously, they're not making any money off of this giveaway. This webpage and the vast majority of webpages have ads. I think people who are bothered by a static ad have ADD, and are unable to focus on what's relevant while ignoring what's not. The limited preview window size is annoying, but has enough features to largely work around the window size, and you can always run a test case and look at the output file. Also, if you have software which can forcibly resize windows (AnVir does, and there are freeware programs which will), it responds pretty well to a forced resize. If you're running decades-old software like Windows 98, then .NET could be a problem, but XP/Vista and much new software use it, and with good reason.

Another great FREE Image enhancer tool is FXFOTO which allows users to automatically organize, edit, enhance, annotate, e-mail, print, upload and archive their digital photos.

It can apply a number of effects, add frames, borders and captions, correct colors or alter white balance on the images of your pics and once tweaked your pictures to your liking, you can also create a slide show with transitions, design a photo collage and share it via e-mail as well as burn it to CD or upload it on sharing websites.

Requirements:

· 256M RAM
· 4MB disk space
· 800X600 graphics

Here a full review with screenshots of the program and the link to download it:

I agree with #8's comment (as one area of interest of mine is digital photography). You really need to concentrate on each photo because not each one needs a certain adjustment. I myself use different photo editors (some from this site, and some freeware) My top 4 faves are Inpaint (a previous GAOTD offer) Photo! Editor (freeware) Paint.net (freeware) and VCW VicMan's Photo Editor. (shareware but you can get previous versions for free.) Now, what I would like offered is a photo size enlarger that'll enlarge photos w/o decreasing the resolution, I think that is a must for us photographer-wannabes. :D Thanks GAOTD for your great works.

Tons of freeware available which does the same as this program. or even more. Picasa, Irfanview and many others.
I'm still waiting for a good software giveaway which does what freewares can't do. For most programs given away here, there are free alternatives available.
Thumbs down.

Finally, for those interested in editing e resizing their PICS in batch, I suggest this two free tools:

Batch Images Now v1.2

h ttp://www.fileheap.com/software-batch-images-now-download-15800.html

(remove space at beginning)

Mihov Image Resizer v1.1

h ttp://www.fileheap.com/software-mihov-image-resizer-download-17945.html

(remove space at beginning)

The first tool is an automated batch-imaging editor that allows you to resize, rename and compressing JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIF, TIFF, PCD, PNG, PSD, JPEG2000, MAC images with a few clicks.

The second tool is a handy application for BATCH RESIZING IMAGES in bmp, gif, and jpg picture formats. You can make pictures or any kind of images smaller or bigger, converting them between different formats (from Bitmap to JPEG or GIF, from JPEG to GIF or from GIF to JPEG) and rotate the photos to the left or to the right in batch mode. That means that you will only have to select the images and the program will do the rest for all selected images.

It's been awhile since I had discovered GAOTD and I can only say good things about this website. All the offered programs with resourceful suggestions from visitors are making it a desirable and worthwhile meeting place.

There is however, a little problem with implementing an intuitive rating system that would have more transparency than the present one. Almost every GAOTD’s offer suffers from disoriented comments and desperate attempts of other viewers to silence harsh critics and try to “rescue” the website from losing its place on Internet.

I sympathize with visitors on both sides but to make any improvements to the existing “report card” we’ll have to have a closer look at the wording leading to thumbs up/down statistics.

The confusion is mounting on daily basis. Take for example today’s user rating summary which shows 102 thumbs up and 216 down which normally comes from “yes | no” votes. However, if you count them separately you end up with 217 up and 49 down which is a confusing reversal of official results.

Let’s say, GAOTD is offering a program that has some shortcomings and soon visitors are starting to voice their opinions by placing comments about the software, then bystanders running for their yes/no thumb votes.

An offer from Nov 25th is a good example of unintended confusion with the rating results. The final tally was:

“User Rating: Rate It! Up-453 (65%) Down-243 (35%) 95 comments”.

As a result, we’ve got a bluntly honest comment #37 from Marcel Wave who wrote:

“I’m sitting here considering downloading todays offering and I’m scratching my head! Having read through the comments, most that are based on having tried this software are telling me that it has programming problems, does not work well, and is not quite as good as other freeware. So why is it currently showing a 71% positive rating?! Makes me think I should ignore the rating in future and rely solely on reading all the excellent detailed feedback that you guys are leaving.”

So, is this an indication of good software, or not so good one?

If you look closely at the Nov 25th early comments #6-9, they were already accounted for 407 yes (up) votes. The misleading part comes from the fact that these votes were cast in support of negative impressions from commentators assessing the software almost as useless.

This is why the existing rating has a logical disconnect with an attempt to collect points for software evaluation, versus votes cast for usefulness of individual comments, which create a typical apples and oranges mismatch.

The question “Did you find this comment useful? yes | no” is logically intended for expressing an opinion about quality of the particular comment, not the software itself. Therefore, using these “yes | no” votes as a base for rating the software itself is not only worthless, but is highly misleading.

One of the ways to get out of this confusion would be implementing the existing survey with a supplemental question that would specifically address rating of the software. It could look like this:

•	Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)
•	Would you rate this software useful? yes | no (0)

With this arrangement, only the second question would be used to collect the final transparent rating points. As an option for further discussion, a permission to vote on the rate question could be granted only to commentators, or be left without restrictions.

Thanks, and my best regards for GAOTD team.

there is a free alternative of this application, which is even more powerful and exists on all OS. It's called ImageMagick. With it, you can do anything (in 2d) and batch it for billions files. And it's the fastest tool of the market, with management of network(distributed processes) and memory.
It would be the grail if there wasn't a small backdraw in its GUI: command line only; no GUI at all. But well, you can't have maximum power and conviviality at the same time. Linux is a proof of that.
