As noted, this is the earlier version 4.82, not the current version 4.88, and you can't update without paying.

#3, ketrout, #4, dude, and everyone who keeps asking these sorts of questions. It's not rocket science, just select Help, About, and there's the version number, the statement that it's the deluxe version, and that it's registered.

#19, Suze, the standard version only has 2 filters, the deluxe has 43 filters, plus command-line (batch) support.

#22, John, it doesn't do anything to file associations.

#23, Raymond Combs, #35, Michael, #64, Messenger, #68, jill, while the UI doesn't resize, the before and after preview windows can be maximized, and toggled between actual size (although without scrolling) and fit-to-window.

#39,47, voidScribe, you're confusing icon files (.ico), which are supported, with shortcuts and icon (resource) extraction, which isn't. Windows has the ability to change folder icons without third-party utilities.

#46,60, mike, #63, Joejoe, learn something about computers before publicly posting. On most giveaways, someone who doesn't know what they're talking about makes some kind of malware claim, and then a bunch of other ignorant people believe them (#59, Charles K, #69, john). Your figures are incorrect (you're not separating program entries from Windows housekeeping). The installation is fairly clean, the number of registry changes is small. What are you going to do when you install a typical multimedia application which makes 60,000 registry changes, or a Microsoft application suite which can make hundreds of thousands? Gee, installing software modifies the registry and adds files, imagine that! It's installing a common graphics library into System32. While one can argue that applications shouldn't be doing that, they've been doing that as long as Windows has been around. As long as the components don't replace Windows components (these don't), it won't affect your computer--the components would still be on your computer if they were installed into another folder.

#61, Treacle, no, it's not portable.

#66,67, Ezicial, this is the correct link for Photoscape.

#77, Rob, IE 7 and Firefox 3 support whole-page zooming.

This is a decent, very simple image converter and effects application. Obviously, if you're a photographer, you're going to use one of the numerous photo editing applications.

"Large or Extra Large which are available for a reason"
The reason is, some idiot at MS decided on an unclean solution to your problem.
And by the way, I have your problem 'poor eyesight'
Do not use that option, and leave your font size as standard.
Here are some clean(appropriate) solutions for your problem -
Buy a larger monitor. you can get s/h 21 inch CRT monitors (in Aust) for approx $65 AU.
I have one.
You can run small programs that provide a magnified image of the area under the mouse.
I have written one in VB6 that is standalone (does not require installation).
You can have a keyboard shortcut to show it (eg Alt Ctrl Z), and just close it when you are done.
And there are other free ones out there. (I have tried them, but keep coming back to using mine.)
Use Opera for your web browsing. It allows a click on the + key to enlarge the whole web page.
That is similar to what MS should have invented, instead of offering the 'make the font larger' (mutter, mutter). Whilst I am on the muttering subject, there is one free offering out there, that does a 'read only' version of that. You just click the systray (or was it a key combination ?), and it takes a snapshot of your screen and enlarges it. It shows it immediately, so it is just us if MS had magnified the whole screen. You can then use the arrow keys to navigate in that enlarged image. And I think Esc gets rid of it.

# 62 Joejoe
With defragging tools to reclaim any space left on your hard drive from deleting folders and files, and a good registry cleaning and repair tool like the one in Ccleaner along with a good auto startup and processor controller program I wouldn't worry about it. With a 400GB hard drive I could afford and do have over 200 software programs and just using the appropriate steps I've just mentioned my computer works as fast as when I first bought it. Running a dirty computer will always slow it down.

A Quick Review:

Pros:
- Preview loaded images(you can also preview the "filters applied" image)
- Supports lots of image formats
- Apply filters to images
- Command line support
- Nicely organized and easy to use option/filter-properties dialogs
- Program, filters and saving behavior is highly configurable

Cons
* Installs many dlls in system32 folder (101 dlls/19.5 mb)
* Interface is non-standard and not easy to use

Suggestions for developer:
- Use a standard interface for program just like the options/filters dialog
- Install the dlls inside the program folder OR (if keeping the dlls shared is neccessary) in a folder inside "Common Filder" folder

The cons don't affect the program's main features(batch processing/image conversion) in any way so I'm definately going to keep it but I hope the developer does something about the UI and program libraries..

Alternative:
IrfanView (File>Batch..)

I guess this could be a decent program... but alas like so many other Windows applications the developers don't have a clue about making a font sensitive GUI.

If you use anything larger than the standard size font.. i.e. Large or Extra Large which are available for a reason this application is almost unusable. The GUI is totally screwed, nothing appears as it should, you can't see 80% of the options, etc.

I remember using the Amiga Computer and AmigaOS way back when and every single app was "Font Sensitive." Therefore regardless of what size font you chose to use with the Operating System the application adjusted it's GUI to make it look right.

Sadly to this very day Windows has some of the most pathetic apps in this respect. For God's sake, coders on other platforms were aware of and capable of coding a "Font Sensitive" GUI 20+ years ago but for some reason Windows coders cannot grasp that concept.

I'm using the Extra Large Font size in Windows due to my eyesight which is the reason you have choices on what size font you use on a 1680 x 1050 screen and this app is unusable due to things being off to the right everywhere, covering other things in the middle, with the filter and image type sections almost off the GUI except for a very small part!

I really wish Windows coders would wake up and smell the coffee. It's been years since the concept of Font Sensitivity came into being and still 90% of windows applications look like crap if you use anything but the default size font which is absolutely ridiculous.
