After having read other comments, I decided to check this software by myself, because I recently had a harddisk total loss that forced me to seriously consider regular backup of my files.
The software did install well, then I wanted to check first the Thunderbird mailbox backup as the software includes a plugin for TB.
The initial backup of my 1.8GB mailbox took 15mn (backup made to a NAS over a 100Mbps network), which is not a terrific speed but acceptable for me, taking in consideration that the backup itself took something like 5mn.
The subsequent backups are then very fast (1mn each hour for each incremental backup of 100MB data), note that contrary to what I have read on other comments, the software can be launched at windows startup automatically, and regular automated backups can be scheduled, an interface is available for scheduling jobs from the job property sheet, and it works perfectly.
So far I have not tested much more features as I installed it less than 1 day ago, but for now I am very satisfied with this giveaway and would even consider encourage others to buy it as it is simple, it works, and I love the ThunderBird plugin (previously I used a tool from Memeo for backup of the TB mail folder but it was pure crap as it put locks on files and it causing errors when composing emails, the Memeo backup was provided with our NAS but even for free I don't want it anymore.), now with Backup4All I can really setup my scheduled mail folder backup and then forget about it !

I use it. It does the job I want it to: created a non-compressed copy of selected folders, and isn't phased by open files and the like. I've tried other programs (not all) and many skipped files for no apparent reason. I used Karen's Replicator before but it was harder to select only certain folders. If your needs are modest this will reliably answer them.

I run Backup4All Professional on a Windows 2003 web server and it does a great job. Unlike many server backup products I tried, the scheduling is easy and works well. The interface is simple and direct. It sends me email notifications when backups are completed.

There are not many good cheap backup products for Windows Server - I must have tried a dozen or so, including some expensive ones. I tried one of the Paragon products too - it was more expensive and seemed rather bloated. Back4All Pro does the job nicely.

I can't comment on the Lite version though.

Thanks, #39 Franck, but, sadly

(a) it NEVER installed for me, so I can't test it, and

(b) you suggest that you never actually used your backup, and

(c) you say it makes "standard" file sets, so if I can do that using free alternatives, I'm not sure what they are offering.

But thanks for testifying that it worked for you and that you probably can "see" the backup files if you want to -- good.

Regarding all the bickering -- it's GOOD for everyone to have excited discussions, and they may be messy, but they offer great fodder for programmers to get productive -- FREE!

Did I mention that we give our feedback FREE?!? ;-)

37. and 40. I don't know why people should not complain about this and that, no matter if something is offered for free or not. In almost every negative feedback you will find a true story, POV's from different peoples, like yours. There should be no reason to forbid somebody to speak. Speech is also free and always should be. That is why i visit GOTD.

For your statements on how does it help:

take a look at the shared ideas on top of this post, maybe some of them are from people that argue on one or another point of the daily offers, this is where the developer keeps his eyes on, no matter which feedback they got in the comments, that is much more important and maybe one special reason for a developer to do such an offer here on GOTD and this could be a reason, why GOTD is such an successful page (with a bunch of new offers daily), exactly like how it is now.

As for the other comments, most are pointing out that the lite version is really not enough to fit the way on how they create backups, or would create them and which features a software should have. That is the complete other direction from what has been said in comment #8 (where you have to assume that the meant users are also all GOTD users today). I don't see any negativity against the dev's, i would more suppose that many from here would just welcome a standard or pro version in a next giveaway (no one expects the flagship's from companies in first place) to satisfy the experts, too. That is all but surely not negative, it's a chance for the future and not only for the visitors of this page.

Let the people say what they want, as long as it is mainly focused on the giveaway's itself.

Ravi, if the "bad" stuff is not stated, as you imply it should not, then how can the developer judge the worth of the product? Even if this is offer is based on a much more powerful version it would inform them that any "lite" version should offer a bit more.
