i do not think it is fair to comment on the bad side of any software only; equal attention should be paid to their good side. I do not agree on the subject that there cannot be any complaints because it is free. Say what you want but the people from gaotd should pay more attention to what is offered. Anything offered is offered by them in conjunction with software writers, both have equal responsabilities: one for endorsing, the other for producing the program.
Just to make matters clear: yesterday I could not activate the software despite my interest in running it. Who to blame ? The site, of course as the activation could not connect to the site. Others have found out that memory management is not the best characteristic of the program. Is it a clear sign that untested software is being offered ?

I've got to say thank you so much for this site. I love it. I've downloaded several games here for my kids and they love playing with it. I've been looking for a program that converted MOV files and I got this software for free. Thanks again!!!!

I found a problem with this giveaway offering and the rest of their offerings, Initially I installed the current offering AVS Video to Flash 1.2.1.48 and while it was large download for what it is... it seemd to work just fine, (including the <b>normal security warnings</b> when running active scripted html pages on the local machine whilst trying out the generated HTML page that plays the produced flv file.)

The problem I encountered reared its ugly head when my curiousity led me to try out some of the other AVS4YOU packages. I tried a few including the older TV capture program from the archive, they were interesting and partly worked with my USB hybrid TV dongle... but when I went back to try out AVSVid to FLV some more I was greeted with an alert box that it couldnot find ordianl 771 in the shared DLL avscodecs.dll! Some or all of the subsiquent installs had over-written this giveaways version of the avscodecs.dll in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\AVSMedia\ActiveX\ folder this means that they need to fine tune their instalation regieme if they want to avoid this type of mess, version checking and files that are not really shared should be put in the individual programs foldernot in the shared folder that could be overwritten by a different incompatible version.

The DLL avscodecs.dll is <b>NOT</b> a shared ActiveX resourc but a normal DLL resoure used by most if not all of the various AVS offerings. It is not tied to any registry CLASS entry and is found by the AVS programs simply by searching the systems PATH when not found in its default installed location. It does not look in the current applications home folder so it cannot be easily relocated there by the end user. The program should be modified to look in its default install folder first and have the DLL installed in that same folder and cease using the shared activex AVSMedia folder for files that are NOT shared activex resources and that are version and application sensitive. I do apprietiate the facility to edit freely the contained encoding profiles. I do notice that when this offering is encoding on my dual core system with the process set at Normal priority it brings the remainder of the system to a crawl. It does not seem to give up CPU cycles easily. To enable me to continue typing here without typing blind I had to reduce the encoding processes priorty to less than normal using task manager, then it used all idle time in between my keystrokes and the display of said key strokes in this comment box.
When the program is idle the CPU usage drops away like any normal program. Memory usage is not over the top for an application of this type at 68M

@96 (Locket): Texts are read literally; none of us is a mindreader who can interprete the text with the thoughts and intentions the writer had when writing the text... I have to assume that it was meant literally since there were no emoticons (smilies) present to show otherwise.

@98 (GoodGTOD): I sometimes wonder whether people actually read; I gave a (be it very brief) review: that I won't use something Flash related because of its many security issues. That too is an opinion, and given the fact that (an estimated) 75% of the computers connected to the internet are infected with some kind of malware a useful one IMO.

I think that Yujin is right, and I am having the same problems that he apparently is. I use adobe premier to convert, and this program takes almost twice as long and use twice as memory.

So... beware, and thank Yujin for the heads up!

I see that people do slate some of the software on here that is given away free but if they were to criticise in a more adult manor then these gripes would be taken on board more seriously. If you can help someone out by pointing things out that are both good and bad about the programs on here then we could all learn from your experience. Come on people if you don't like the program then you can uninstall there is no need to slag GAOTD off for the fantastic site that they have here. Long live GAOTD!!!
