You cannot re-activate the software because they check the license against the server which gives an error saying it's no longer valid.

I also had the hanging problem, but I decided to leave the computer and wait it out. It did take a few minutes to fully load, but as it is not program I would use often, I can live with the wait. My next problem was that you can not resize the screen. As I usually run my resolution in 800 X 600, much of the controls were missing. After I increased the resolution, I was able to see and use all the controls. I was very pleased at how easily I was able to set a recorded piano recital as my ring tone once I figured out the program and settings.

The program would not open. I downloaded it three times and tried to install. I froze at the opening screen and i had to ctrl-alt-delete >end program to shut it down.
Too bad. Good idea, bad execution.

#102 DEESTHING WROTE: "... it also said it was activated! Today it tells me it’s not registered. [...] What did I do…just for future reference…because obviously I missed out on this one now.
Comment by deesthing — February 9th, 2007 at 1:49 pm

AWW, that's too bad. Sorry to hear that. :(

Hey, you know you *might* have a possibility of a 2nd chance. Most programs on this GIVEAWAY of the DAY site just get activated by the ACTIVATE.EXE program, but THIS one happened to have a serial number, which you paste in.

"activate the software using the activation key provided
(Start > All Programs > AVS4YOU > Activation)."

You say you did download it during the proper time, and you did COPY DOWN the activation info. IF you did, then you might have a 2nd chance. If you happened to copy down the serial number that it gave you on the day when it was active, try pasting it in again. See if the goddess of luck is with you. I hope you have some good news.

Regarding what happened and what to do next time. I'd say always verify that everthing is copascetic by COMPLETELY exiting out of the application at least once, and restarting it, and confirming that it's still activated and all is well. (this INCLUDES making sure that the prog is not still running in the background, or iconized in the system tray near the clock! Some programs minimize there when people THOUGHT they exited it by clicking the [x] button. But in actuality it's still running.)

Ok, hope I was helpful.

Ok...I'm feeling stupid because it's the next day and I didn't have time to mess with this last night to see if I missed something. I've never had problems with the activation on this site before and I DID read the readmefile...I swear it...but I swear it also said it was activated! Today it tells me it's not registered. Where was the information? I wrote down the activation info somewhere but didn't think I needed it because it said...really...it said "activated" and took me to your webpage that says everything is good.

What did I do...just for future reference...because obviously I missed out on this one now.

Comment by ryyz — February 8th, 2007 at 5:14 pm

To #34 -- My advice is try redownloading it from the main site and if that doesn't work download from the mirror site.

To #73 -- Try using the Windows xp extraction program and if that doesn't work download it from the mirror site. If you can't find the mirror link I will list it below but it is just below the regular download link.

Anyways looks like fun software but I got a prepaid phone that has 3 games and a phone. I really can't do much other then make calls and play the simple games on the phone...

Great work GOATD team and may I suggest a software such as clone cd from "www.slysoft.com". Its a great program but I would rather not pay for it.

Comment by ryyz — February 8th, 2007 at 5:14 pm "

TECH TIP once more, for all people here who may ever get a repeatedly corrupted file when downloading something:

EMPTY your cache. When you download, it puts it into your temp internet files. And sometimes if you re-download, it simply sees that there's one in your cache already and fetches that old one, which is corrupted, instead of a fresh one from the site.

To verify, Check the size of your downloaded file in bytes with the spec on its home site, and make sure yours is not corrupted. Totally empty your internet cache and re-download. Open with winrar or any zip program.

AND RYYZ, you are not alone. Yes, since you asked, somebody else DID have this.-- JULIAN WROTE Cannot unzip. Tried three different zip programs and all give an error. I have downloaded the i-Sound program three times thinking something went wrong with download. No joy.
Comment by Julian — January 26, 2007 @ 12:22 am

@john73: yep, that's the idea. :) Except that sometimes it can require more than just deleting that icon. Sometimes you need to nab that partial download hidden in your Temporary Internet Files as well.

Ok hope thats helpful!

AMBER WROTE: "No matter how many times I’ve tried to download/repair/re-install the software, it still comes up stating that I am missing file “GDIPLUS.DLL”. And please don’t tell me to check the readme file.Thanks.Comment by Amber — February 8th, 2007 at 5:22 pm

Aha! I was just about to post the nsawer to this, and then I saw RENEE got it! Thanks Renee. Yes, I will post this to corroborate what Renee said, GDIPLUS.DLL may be an indication that you need to reinstall MICROSOFT's .NET framework. That file is also in MS-OFFICE and a few others. But if you install the latest .NET framework, 2.x I believe it will take care of also registering the .dll for you as well, so you don't have to mess around with singly downloading just the GDIPLUS.DLL and then getting '.dll not registered' errors and then messing with regsvr32.exe and then getting invalid entry point errors. Just try the reinstall of .NET Framework and then come back and let us know if that worked for ya.

To #79 HitMe, Well maybe because I really wanted that software and I was hoping that GOTD would get tired of me asking for it so that they would just give it away. But that's not the case anymore because I found a free dvd ripping software that works for me. It's called RipIt4Me. My thanks to #69 Dracula for pointing it out to me. So, for those of you who were irritated that I kept posting the same comment everyday, you don't have to worry about it anymore.

#22 and #27: Work around for Verizon, maybe. I haven't tried it yet but it appears that whenever I save a voice memo it then shows up in my list of ringers. Then you can just select something from there.

To get it there I plan to just make up something for a ringtone that I like, then play it back thru my pc's speakers while I hold my phone's voice memo up to the speaker. Might not be great but I'm too cheap to spring for a cable since I'll change phones soon. Also I'm too cheap to start running up email charges for the sake of fancy ringtones -sorry hometownnerd.

#75, GDIPLUS.DLL can be downloaded from Microsoft's website here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6a63ab9c-df12-4d41-933c-be590feaa05a&displaylang=en

It was apparently a security update to .NET Framework 1.0. Perhaps an MS Update gone awry? Try downloading and installing their package, then reinstalling this software.

Google the name of the dll for more info ;)

GOTD, I love the site.. thanks for all you do! And for all the nitpickers.. nitpick on.. we know how to keep scrollin' ;)

To #4 Garrey, I had actually written a reply comment to your accusation of me spamming the comments several hours ago. For some reason, it’s not here.?! Darn! Even my comment about fragmentation isn’t here!? What’s going on? Hmm, maybe GOTD thought I WAS spamming the comments so they removed it. Oh well, anyways what I said in my reply to you was, “I am not spamming anything! Take a look at the reason why I posted my fragmentation comment again today in comment #6. Oh and watch your language young man!” End of quote. So there. Just tryin to help people out man! Jeez. Take some relaxing pills or something!

To #18 The Advanced Specialist, thanks for your kind words of encouragement. And I will take a look at that software you were mentioning yesterday. Many thanks.

To #19 Site Seer, thanks for pointing out that comment from yesterday. Oh, and about everybody jumpin on me today, that’s alright, I’m cool.

To #69 A Verage (From Yesterdays comments,) thank you for pointing out some more causes of fragmentation. Very helpful. The reason I just focused one the, installing/uninstalling cause, was because it is the easiest one to explain how to fix. Cleaning out the registry is much more technical and would require a lot more time to explain how to do than I had time for yesterday.

To #73 Lifeforces (From Yesterdays comments,) thank you for further elaborating on fragmentation, etc. May I also add that when I spoke of the installing/uninstalling cause of fragmentation, I was not saying if you install ONE software and then uninstall it, that it would slow down your computer. Rather I was saying that, installing and then uninstalling software MANY times, over a period of time it would slow down your pc.

To #21 Drew, point taken. Lol! Problem is, I am only 15. Therefore, I do not have a credit card and thus must rely on my mother to purchase the software. What complicates this is she had already bought me 2 software’s a week ago, so I’m going to have to wait another two weeks before even THINKING about asking her to buy me another one. Lol.

To #23 Lee, I’m not spamming anything! (Sigh) I’m only trying to help people out.

To #25 Mr Happy, Thank you very much for your kind words. Glad it was helpful.

To #61 Site Seer, Very well said. Agree with you 100%.

To #69 Dracula, Cool will check it out. Thanks.

To Advance Specialist...how the hell am I spamming comments. I said it looked like a good program you douche! And going off topic and talking about something COMPLETELY irrelevant to this is annoying. It's not what this is for. The comment I made...was a comment about the software. Think about what you type. Atleast try to make sense. Stop trying to be "Daddy" to everyone that does something dumb.

And again...borja is spamming the comments and if anyone who has any common sense will see that there shouldn't be spamming on here unless it's some type of alternative to this product.

Even more interesting is the AVS website and their suite of products.. http://avs4you.com/index.aspx, and their subscription/purchase model, described on http://avs4you.com/Register.aspx . You can download and use dozens of their products for a single fee. Their apps cover video, audio, CD/DVD/BD, iPod, PSP, Cell phones and portable players. A real find. Thanks GOTD.

Borja...grab RipIt4Me and you can rip or copy ANY dvd out there bar none. I use this to make mirror copies of my dvd's so if anyone wants to borrow them, they get the copies. That way if the copies are damaged or scratched, I just toss them and redo another one. I am not going to let someone take my originals and take a chance on gettting them damaged, not even my family.

I do the same thing to my cd's as well. That way if someone breaks into my car and steals my cd's...all they get is the copies and not the originals.

Question: I have an old Nokia cell phone with no Bluetooth. And I don't have a cable to connect it to the USB port of my laptop. I've tried to buy one; Circuit City had a product with about 6 different cables for various cell phones for abot $60! No way I'm spending that.

#57, one generic sentence re the software and two paragraphs complaining about others. WhiteRabbit's comments are fine tho sometimes need a bit more airspace, as in paragraphing. Advanced Specialist often has decent info, freely given here to others. Seems more in the spirit of the site than running others down, eh mate?
