So will this allow me to take a still picture out of a video, and save it as a picture. If it can do that, then I will slap myself for missing this giveaway.

#20 and all you other users of Super. The damn thing calls home EVERY time you turn it on!! In fact, it won't function without doing so. I tried it too and my firewall picked it up trying to call home every time I tried to use it. Yeah, its powerful and yeah, its fast and yeah, it can do just about everything, but why do you want a program to call home just to run??!!! BE AFRAID !!! BE VERY AFRAID!!! Piss on Super and piss on you if you're dumb enough to keep using it. You deserve whatever happens to your p.c.

Very simple to use. As I used to use Daniusoft Video Converter which could also convert video/ audio but let me trim, crop, do some special effect.
You may see their official website
<a href="http://www.daniusoft.com/video-converter.html" title="Daniusoft Video Converter" rel="nofollow"></a>

I downloaded this at the beginning of the giveaway period and have tried diligently to run it through its paces. Sadly, I have also found that it opens only the Divx avi files I have. I am in Australia, Pal is the format of DVD and Videos here but I don't think that would have anything to do with avi formats.

When I did get one avi to open, the software actually did a good job at capturing frames. I could select JPG or bitmap as the output file type. The browse slider was awkward for me. I have an optical mouse and it seems that I couldn't quite slide in small enough increments. However, the pan right and left function using the arrow keys helped somewhat.

All in all, I am disappointed in this software. I need video editing software that is genuinely capable of supporting all AVI formats so that I can fiddle with videos captured with my digital video camera, etc.

I appreciate BladedThoth's tip on VirtualDub. I've downloaded it and tested it and it is sweet. Cheers mate.

Kyle, this one needs to really have a thorough re-write before it's ready for use. Good luck!

This software is great, letting you convert files to DVD, burn to a CD. Extract a picture, extract the audio, and more! I would like to watch the movie in the program though.....

#46, just install a FLV codec/filter like ffdshow, which is included in the excellent Combined Community Codec Pack.

Then you can watch FLV's (preferably in zoom player which is also included) in full screen without that awful tearing and bad frame rate which can happen when you play it directly in the browser.

And this without having to convert anything.

#36 #41 - DVD's are MPG2 format, AVI Toolbox only processes a very small subset of the *.avi format (I think xviD and Divx only, but I know for a fact not Cinepac, AVID, or standard .AVI as produced by Studio (a pro-level video editing package) or Avid DV Express (a standard the rest of the industry measures itself by at over $3,000 just for the software part of the system).

In other words, this is a program for people who mostly are ripping a small segement of Internet based AVI files, but not the other 99% of the *.AVI format.

And what little fraction of the AVI format it does process it does very poorly. See Bladed Thoth's 15 Minute Review for details on that.

I agree with Bladed Thoth's recommendation that it is not even worth the free download.
