Ok.. moved all 150+gb of muisc to SSD drive. Doesn't RUN any FASTER so I would give it a 3 out 10 for performance. It doesn't do a good job handling ZERO sized files. I had about 15 total files that were "corrupted" according to the program. All but 5 were ok and played in my MP3 players. The 5 that it crashed on showed blank except for file name and size. (zero). Once removed, it scanned without crashing. SO.. to the developers. You need to have this program continue with scan (and finish it) when it hits a speed bump. and speaking of spead. This program is WAY TO SLOW on a system such as mine.
Win7 pro/64, 16gb ram, 750hybrid drive, 250ssd, 2tb 7200 data drive, Intel i7-2600k @ 3.4ghz. ATI 6670 video 2/2gb ddr5 ram. SO, I might not have the fastest machine out there but I got no performance boost going from an external 1tb hard drive 3.0usb to a SSD drive.

Here are some answers to a few questions that other GOTD members posted above. I haven't decided if I want this one or not but can always go to their site later and get the free version.

Link to the comparison of free vs paid version (though I don't know that it exactly answers the question of the difference, if any, from the free version and what GOTD version is/are)

Hello - downloaded and installed the program just fine. The install was a bit quirky having to avoid all the 'freebie addons', however, I was able to work my way through it. The program has an odd interface but you can get used to it. It, in one package, does what it would normally take several to do so I do like the 'swiss army knife' type approach. But, keep in mind that a swiss army knife is not really a substitute for the real parts (corkscrew, screwdrivers, etc.) when you really use such tools a lot.

That being said, there were questions above about handling thousands of MP3's. Been there, done that, tried everything. The simple best two cataloging programs for large collections are Helium Music Manager (low price) and Visual CD (free). They don't have all the 'tools' of the swiss army knife but do allow massive (I mean massive!) collections to be databased and properly handled as well as launched and listened to. No editing but both allow you to add that feature through an external program.

Enjoy and thumbs up for KCSoftwares and GAOTD!

@21 Dan benDan: The Album Artist tag is not officially defined by standard, but is consistently used by iTunes, Winamp, and Windows Media Player. Album Artist for a compilation album (e.g.; Grammy Nominees) is generally "Various Artists". This allows all the tracks for the album to be shown together, while still having information about who performed individual tracks.

I generally organize multi-disc sets by adding "disc 1" to the album title for the first disc, etc.

MP3tag, Windows Media Player, and others can automatically search for album information from online databases. This can be a big help in organizing your collection. MP3tag can also create tags from filenames and vice versa.

I cannot install until very late today, as I am not at my main comp, so I would very much appreciate if someone could tell me how this compares to free MusicBee?
Would it give me anything MusicBee does not?

Installs and starts OK under Win7x64. I can "scan" for folders, but the "files" tab opens a "Files Selection" window with no controls, nor right-click options - I can put files in, but never remove them, not even by running an operation, not even by closing/restarting the program. "?" for help goes to a web page with most items greyed out, and the "getting started" link doesn't work. Sorry, don't have time to deal with this.

Summary: AudioGrail, winamp and windows explorer show different tags
Description:
Winamp and windows explorer show an info field called Album Artist where AudioGrail shows no info field.
Windows explorer shows Contributing Artists where AudioGrail shows no info field.
Winamp shows Artist and so does AudioGrail.

The contents of AudioGrail Artist = winamp Album Artist
The contents of winamp Artist = windows explorer Contributing Artists

I am confused!

What is Album Artist ? Is it the person who did the artwork for the album or the overall artist/group for the album?

If it is the overall artist/group then what do I do if it is 'Various Artists' ?

I am trying to organize folders by artist/album/title but AudioGrail wants to make a separate folder for each artist in the album.

Should there be a field in AudioGrail named Album Artist ?
Should AudioGrail organize by 'Various Artists' as Album Artist rather than the existing Artist field?

Should I just forget trying to organize my music?

An additional question. What do I do with multi disc sets? Right now the program doesn't know about disc number, resulting in multiple track with number = 1 etc. Any plans to handle that?
