This application is good within its own scope. I hate Audacity simply because of it's very poor design of GUI. There are some issues with Audacity, but I don't want to become one of those people who come here simply to discuss the Freeware tools.

A few days ago, I posted a comment on Audio Converter application's Give away page. Please do not misunderstand me ... there are certainly a few Shareware (or Paid) programs that are not worth of its cost and Programmers may need to pay more attention to the enhancements, to offer a better value for money product. The issue that I want to raise is related to the "discussions on freeware tools on these pages" and this shouldn't be taken as "I'm so fond of currently posted Give Away application.

I seriously believe that people MUST understand the fact that this is not the Forum to discuss Freeware tools; this comment area is for us to share our own personal experiences with the currently posted Give Away application. With due respect to all the comments posted here, I'm really sorry to say that there are very few comments which are constructive. Please guys ... come forward and talk more about the application listed here. At times, I see the discussions on Freeware go so hot and hyped here that it forces me to think and believe that someone is trying to use this noble forum for his own personal cause of "Advertising his Freeware". If this is true then this is a very serious issue and one should really think about it in rather ethical way.

As I posted in my previous comment ... Freeware Companies rarely provide any support for the product ... oops, sorry, I cannot call a Freeware as "Product" ... for the application. If you've provided something to download and furthermore advertise your tool on the basis of the number of downloads then please understand that you MUST take the responsibility of it. Again, this is a moral responsibility and not the legal one. So, it's all up to you who call themselves a Freeware Owners. I know there are so many Paid application owner companies who do not carry out their responsibility; but then this is the legal matter and you always have BBB or Rip Off Report or similar forums to strive for your rights as Customer; this is not possible in Freeware tools. If you're giving something for Free then it's your own choice and your way of living your own life.

If you're a developer like me then please understand that GNU-GPL, CC or any similar licensing schemes are not to hide behind but to serve the world with "pay only for what you want" philosophy. The word "Beta" or version number starting with 0 (like 0.3.5 or 0.9.4) is not the escape for you from taking responsibility of errors or bugs in your application. This is where I hate Freeware tools at most!

Again, this discussion does not mean that I'm in love of today's posted Give Away; I'm just taking this opportunity to raise this very critical issue of too much of "Freeware Discussions on Giveaway Forum", thanks to my fellow Internet Surfing enthusiasts for posting such comments! Personally I believe that if we want to see some really good applications posted here, then let's make the Owner companies realize that we are the sensible people of this world. There is absolutely no harm in criticizing a product which deserves a constructive criticism; let the Developers know where they are going wrong and show them your desired path, if possible, too ... this will lead to a better product which is good for all of us! But please do not use this forum to advertise your Freeware tools; it may harm the cause of this forum.

Thanks so much and Have a Nice Time!

Best Regards!

#39, #46 & many others - Thank you for your intelligent & thoughtful comments. The GAOD forum is a tremendous educational resource, at least for me. My system is simple XP Pro/Sp3, hopefully clean & current. In well over a year now I have tried many apps offered here & have never had a problem with registration.
When all else fails, folks, resd the directions. And please, no whining.
It is so tiresome, not to mention boring. Thank you.

I have been using sound editor pro (paid version) for years. I have not found anything else as good as cheap.... Free is great too. However I know I will be moving from Vista to Win7 when it is available. I will not be downloading as many GAOTD programs as I will not be able to reinstall them for free when I crash and have to reformat or change OS.

There have been some really GREAT software given away in here. A lot of not so great, and some real boners. This forum is an EXCELLENT place to find free altrenatives that so many of you share with us. Format Factory is an example, it converts video files better than ALL and I mean ALL of my paid software does and never crashes. Best free alternative ever mentioned in here. I like it better than SUPER.

The comment by #6 INSANE is ..... well insane...I am sure he is called that for a reason....

"I am sick of the free alternatives. Why would anyone come here of they were looking for freeware?
Comment by insane"

Hi,

I beg to differ with you. You say it's become a mediocre site with nothing to offer most people in six or seven months, and that you visit only out of curiosity.

Please only speak for yourself as I prefer to make my own judgments. I have downloaded some very useful software in the last "6 or 7 months" some of it offered by GAOTD, other applications through recommendations from the people who post here.

The site is what it is, it promotes software that perhaps people would not have noticed otherwise. The developers get essential feedback, thus they are able to further develop their applications, it's quid pro quo and we get free software. Ok, some of it is complete rubbish, some of it is very good indeed, it's part of the fun, a bit like opening a Christmas cracker.

What exactly would you like to see offered here? Microsoft Office, Coral Paint shop pro, maybe CIV 4?

It sounds to me as if you ought to be visiting a bittorent site, then you can download your fantastic software and "cracks" without parting with a penny, whatever, but please don't knock this site.

All the best,
Andy

I always save the freeware links posted in the comments for a Giveaway even though I usually download and install the Giveaway itself and at least try it out (unless there are comments indicating some major valid reason to pass on it).

A few reasons:
I have been putting a list of links to good freeware, on one of my own websites.
My laptop has a small hard drive compared to my desktop, thus I sometimes find it more useful to pass on the Giveaway due to space considerations on the laptop, and opt for a freeware alternative that has a portable version that can be installed on USB stick.
If my main hard drive crashes, at least I would be able to install freeware alternatives to some of my most useful Giveaways until such time as those Giveaways might be offered again.
I've found out about quite a few freeware programs that I was previously unaware of, from the links posted in the comments (and also have learned of some good free games thanks to Whiterabbit's dedicated posting brief notices of games being offered in the forums (since I don't hit forums very regularly).
I have often referred friends to links for freeware that I've learned about here in GAOTD comment (as well as telling them about the daily Giveaways)

A suggestion to developers: Check and see what freeware/open source applications are competing with your software, what their features are etc, so you can come up with some feature/features/attributes for your program that makes it worth choosing (and paying for) over freeware alternatives.
