Audio comparer installed fine on my WinXP Pro/SP3 (32-bit). The "license" removed the 30-day limit of the trial version, but it is NOT the same as the paid version.

Giveawayoftheday version is 1.0, paid version is up to 1.3.

When trying to delete, copy, or move files files from the duplicate list, it complains that one of the selected files is in use by another program and doesn't perform the function. The file IS locked when I try to delete it manually via explorer, but the freeware unlocker program cannot find who has locked it, but can still delete the file. The trial program has the limitation that the file copy, move and delete functions are disabled, but this is an underhanded way to do it.

Audio Comparer is not quite ready for prime time as it failed to install at all on my old Windows 98SE machine. I made several attempts and simply gave up the effort. A copy of the Windows dump file is shown below:

Well after reading all the comments here (including a very concerning one about an Address Book error?!?!) I was quite hesitant to get this. But Bolide's AllMyMovies is one of my (personal) most valuable apps that they absolutely nailed, since I have amassed well over 1500 DVD titles, so I figure that just like AMM this program will probably undergo at least a dozen versions/revisions before it gets to the really good stage. To the people who post here complaining about "being the help menu guinea pigs", how can you *not* expect that from a site that exclusively releases brand new apps for free to anyone? I expect GOTD to make sure their releases are virus and malware-free, and free from hidden 3rd party installers. Other than that, I expect to be part of a test audience. Our feedback is watched by these companies and changes are made based on our responses. The old saying remains true- you get what you pay for. If you don't like it, just uninstall. I'm in Iraq right now and we tend to copy each others files a *lot*. Due to my own laziness regarding a lack of sorting I've managed to get nearly 125Gb of music files (not counting music videos) from people so even if this reduces a small fraction it will be well worth the download. Thanks GOTD!!

My very positive review of the software appears below the following observations: There are so few legitimate reviews on GAOTD. As is typical,- many reviewers didn't even try the software and gave their ignorant opinions anyway, citing their favorite progs, etc. or simply "No Thanks GAOTD" So, you are too kewl for the software but not too kewl to leave an ignorant self centered comment. Others obviously didn't pay attention nor study the details about the program and how it works, visit the developer's website to learn more, etc. Thus some of the problems they cite are clearly due to lack of attention by the user. If you don't see a value in the % column did it occur to you to click on the plus sign to expand the dropdown? I've just compared 1,420 audio files in my first folder and it has worked PERFECTLY. If it did not pick up some of your files they are probably less than 1-min 30 sec. tracks. (read the directions) THANKS to those few who gave a legitimate review!

I had never seen nor heard of this software offering nor the publisher and was quite exited to see this offering.

I study music. 70% of my used hard drive space is devoted to music/songwriting/composing/recording software, books, text files, audio files, etc. I collect mostly obscure recordings from the Edison gramophone era to present, lots of duplicates of a "same song" but from different sources and different qualities of mastering, different file sizes, play lengths etc. So far, this method of comparing is proving to be extraordinary for my uses! It is identifying 'same song' files with different file sizes, differently arranged file names and dissimilar file names. I have to suspect a couple of the previous reviews as being deliberately false.
I am working with the program as I write. Some duplicates found with appear to be incomplete, missing an ending for example so this will allow me to weed those out, and to select the best copies for a particular purpose, moving those files to different folders etc. and deleting the others.

I'm working hard to be a professional songwriter/composer/musician, working with a current database of about 7,000 audio files. These are all for "music study" and files often get copied and placed into various temporary study folders according to styles, instruments, keys, etc. Files get moved from one drive to another, etc. Once in awhile I have to clean up folders, locate duplicates and consolidate the files. The concept of this software and how it works captured my immediate attention and excitement. Because of the way it works it is doing a FAR BETTER job than other file comparison programs I've used. It is doing just what I need it for and seems to be doing a perfect job.

I'm still in early stages of evaluating it, it did the first task of identifying duplicate/triplicate/multiple files perfectly, even considering the different file sizes and differently arranged or dissimilar file names. It has identified and listed about 180 duplicate/triplicate files from my first folder of 1,420 files and I have run other file duplicate locating software on this same folder quite recently. This part of the program seems to have done a thorough and perfect job: TEN THUMBS UP! I just realized that I can now finally and easily correct all of the the incomplete and dissimilar file names, that make some files hard to find. Another THUMBS UP!

I am totally impressed so far and excited about finding this. It will make my music study and work more efficient. Even if there turns out to be some problems that arise with this (first release) version I will be watching the future of this program and it's development. I am on very low (disability) income and there are very few software programs that I can even consider buying but this one is right at the top of my list. Congratulations to the developers!

That's my experience so far.

Thank you GAOTD and Bolide Software!

Their website mentions working under "All" versions of Windows.

Under Windows ME installation appeared to work OK, but the program would not run at all (displayed an error window referring to the main EXE file, nothing specific mentioned).

I tried installing in Safe Mode, I restarted, I tried terminating all non-essential processes leaving only the necessary ones running (no anti-virus, no background or systray processes, etc.), but it still would not run at all. (Perhaps it will not work under Windows 98 either?)

Appears to install/run OK under Windows XP MCE (so far). For my thousands of files it has about 2 hours to go on the first comparison run (still going) so I cannot comment on results yet.

Had some installation issues (even using an Admin-privilege account) on Windows XP Home (registry errors), so had to abort and use Safe Mode to complete. Seems to be running OK so far (still performing initial comparison run on that machine as well).
