The beauty of Skype is that you can enjoy the video of the free telephone call. Why do I want a recorder that is obviously outdated? It seems very fishy to me that they would do something like this. Do they think we will be so enthralled with voice only recording that we will run out and buy the real program? This is a first for me here, and I've been here a number of years. I'm not interested in trying half a program.

#6 - Thanks for your input. I suggest everyone take note and start paying attention to our world. Don't give the government more to use against you. ah, just saying.
I won't be installing this software but thanks anyway for the give today.

I think the stealth feature is the most worthwhile feature for this product. The ability for a parent to monitor a child's phone calls on Skype makes this price fair. Perhaps the creator may want to look into combining their keylogger feature with this program for a parental observance package (and perhaps a "screen shot" observer too). A value price combination of $34.95 would be great for such a software package.
The FTP feature looks nice but I have no way of testing it.
The only update I could think of is the ability to not record when certain executable files are running. For example, if a teenager listens to music constantly or sleeps with their computer playing music, the hard drive could start getting filled up. Just an idea.

I really think another great feature that should be noted is the fact that during Skype recording, the incoming and outgoing audio can be separated or selectively recorded. If you were concerned about legal issues, this is the feature to use. You could just record your child and not the other side...or even better, record both separately, and if needed in court (yeah I went there - there are a lot of child molesters out there), you could just enter your child's side of the conversation as evidence.
All in all, a great program that has the potential to be even more useful and powerful with the addition of the AthTek Keylogger combination.

Since somebody asked if there's a better way of talking to their family:
There are plenty of open-source VOIP clients available. Skype is proprietary/closed source; that fits well with the Microsoft business model.. (Wouldn't it be crazy if Verizon customers could only talk to other Verizon customers?)

SIP is the most common open source VOIP protocol.

Some of them have built-in recording.

I don't have a use for this app, but this Youtube video that I found is a great Skype addon (close Skype with one click instead of dealing with signing out, closing the window, right click on sys tray icon, etc).

Skype is awesome, don't get me wrong, but they should definitely make it easier to close the program.

@29 Thank you - your comments about Elvis and JFK made my morning!

Now, regarding today's GOTD I must agree that it is ridiculous to first state that the software records video and then immediately say it does not. That's enough reason for me to not download it.

Regarding the disclaimer that "Using a Skype Recorder is illegal in some regions in the world" it's not a bad idea to check how the law is written in your country. In the US it's complicated because there are both Federal and State laws, however it is generally the case that recording is permitted if all parties agree to it. This doesn't pertain just to Skype but recording through any medium. Here's s short read about telephone recording law in the US:
