Ashampoo offers allot of their software for FREE. All you have to do it go to the website, register/create an account (free). Then, if you didn’t get the link, go to http://www.ashampoo.com/internet/myashampoo/e and log in. Navigate through all the software they offer. If you see something you like, look for the “Free License Key” link on that page. If that version is offered, you will receive the key, via email. Simply download the software, install and use the key sent. Not all applications are offered free, and only the older versions.

As an example: http://www2.ashampoo.com/webcache/html/1/product_2_1406___USD.htm (Ashampoo® Magical Optimizer) – Free, however NOT the latest version.

Additionally, if you register an account, you get ’speical’ offers for newer versions of the software, at reduced rates (example: Ashampoo® Burning Studio 9, 39.99 normal, 9.99 for users registered to the site).

Want to thank GaotD team for having this ability of "Comments" - the opinions expressed here teach me much more than many 'forums'. They are straight-to-the-point, and sometimes reflect much know-how and knowledge.
This is the case with Mike, #37, and I wish to thank you for your in-depth remarks.
I tend to agree with Mike, as I use separate apps instead of 'one-click button' app, e.g. CCleaner for File Cleaning + Registry Integrity; Defraggler for HDD defragmentation; Speccy for System Information; WinPatrol for "anti-make-system-changes-without-consent"; Recuva for recovering; Revo Uninstaller; etc.
That way I have some control of what happens to my computer, instead of one application that does it all...

Every time I try to input my email address, I get this error...

The e-mail address entered is either invalid or not acceptable.

Please try again and/or use a different e-mail address.

I use gmail & don't usually have any problem with this.

Interesting reading, guys, especially Mike's regular contribution, but while I see a lot of these optimisers I see them as removers of unnecessaries - if there's something there that shouldn't be, they remove it.
What I'm seeing a need for is a utility that >puts it back the way it was< - something that knows what the good/regular Windows settings are and corrects those that are wrong/off/missing.
Taking off the high spots is okay, but something that fills in the dips is just as necessary, IMHO.

I was skeptical about Ashampoo products in general until a few years ago when I decided to try out their Burning Studio line of software, and this is obviously top of the line software that performs well and does not give you the bloat and useless options and add-ons of the highly regarded and highly useless Nero products. I like most of their software and also use the Photo Commander as a replacement to Windows photo viewer which is crap. Those of you who complain about the spam are complaining about something that is easily avoidable as mentioned in several posts above. Win Optimizer is a great program and Ashampoo should only be praised for all of the free offers that they promote. That said I saw some posts for some who used WinUtilities (which is also great) and you can get the Professional version of WinUtilities and some other programs for free here -> http://www.softpedia.com/discounts/.
You can also find some other ashampoo products for free here and a couple other various programs -> http://store.v3.co.uk/?act=search&cat=13

Downloaded and installed cleanly on XP SP3. Attempting a full scan ends up with a memory access violation in undelete.dll, though a quick scan completed without error. Quick scan found a few things, so I guess it might have been worth it.

I have and use several Ashampoo programs. When and for what I use them, I find the programs quite satisfactory. Also, I do not understand the 'watch out for the spam' comments. I get notices of updates but what company does not send out that info?

Thanks Ashampoo and GOTD.

One interesting feature found in WinOptimizer 6 (atleast in my version bought about a year ago) is the Systen Benchmark under Modules/Diagnostics wich determines the computer speed measuring CPU RAM motherboard etc. After benchmarking you can choose to compare your results on line with other users of the software. At present there are 346.810 users. More important probably is to compare with your previous bechmarks to see if your computer is slowing down. I have used several Ashampoo softwares for many years some are very good, none are bad.

I paid a very small sum for one of their products and I thought I had unchecked /Checked all the right boxes to prevent marketing.

They are about one of the most aggressive spam like marketing companies I have ever known. When you try to unregister - it's not simple. You have to give them so much personal information I gave up.

I wouldn't touch them with a very large bargepole again because of this. You should be able to unsubscribe without being a contortionist. KEEP WELL CLEAR!

I've been having huge CPU problems for the last two months, with svchost and other processes running my CPU up to 100% and leaving it there. I tried EVERYTHING, including WinUtils and Glary, disabling searchindexer, and a host of other things. I am an experienced user (I've been building my own systems since the 1980s), so I know what I'm doing (for the most part). Still, I could not solve this problem.

One quick run through with WinOp and I'm back to 2-3% CPU usage, peaking at 10-20% for most progs. I have my computer back! I'm sold!

Thanks for your comments and thanks to GAOTD!

I have used Ashampoo products, there are so many. They are a robust energetic company who try to sell software as competitively as possible.
The difference between Ashampoo WinOptimizer 6, and other programs mentioned may be slight, but :
1: if you let any program clean your Registry, Temp Files, Internet connection, "Tweaks", your being too trusting.
What interests me in this product is to peep at what the system optimisation Module is like.
I use Win XP, so I know what is what already, I have Advanced System Care, and same deal, optimisation.
Before letting anything play with your registry, back it up with ERUNT
http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/
respect your machine, be the one in charge. Do Not let any program run through a "CleanUp" of your Computer, it's an insult to your intelligence, and ability to learn.
Enjoy !

Ashampoo likes to put pop-ups in their programs so sometimes when you start to use them an annoying ad pops up on your screen. It's VERY unprofessional and I will never use another program of theirs again be it free or otherwise.

Installed under Windows Vista 32bit with UAC disabled whithout any problem. Registration was fast and the program ready to use. Tested several functionalities and it worked without a glitch. The functions tested were: Quick Scan from main menu, Startup Tuner, Process Manager, Visual Styler, System Benchmark and others.

Thank you both Ashampoo and GAOTD for this offering!

@48: You can change the language for WinOptimizer 6, from Options in the upper part of the window in line with the minimize and close button (second from left to right, left to the Internet option), then go in the second tab for the Language, choose a language and then choose the right most button at the bottom for OK.
Your problem might be because you have a Chinese version of the operating system. It might be useful to run the installer as administrator if you have UAC(User Account Control) activated.

Well over 12 months they sent me around once in a fortnight a "personal upgrade offer" from WinOptimizer5 to v6. Usually it was labelled as reduced or time-limited opportunity for obvious "appetizing" purposes.

I never got myself into that kind of "friendly spamming" while on the other hand I did not expect a global player settled on the market like Ashampoo to ever think of participating in the Giveaway project. Today I feel sort of confirmed in giving them a knock-back for quite a long period of time now going to grasp a little gem for free.

One question, though, does remain that somebody may try an answer on: If a global player highly esteemed wants to spread the word about their new version (v7) by giving away the previous version for free on presumably one of the most visited websites, does this point to economic problems and to a customer satisfaction that leaves way to be desired, or should it be regarded as a normal marketing strategy?

@40 - what absolute nonsense. The size of their customer base indicates that their products are excellent - and they are.

I've been using a German site to get free Ash products but there are many that I purchase. They are not a charity, just don't expect people to buy anything and everything. Their "make us an offer" facility is great.

Obviously, GOTD can only offer daily freebies but don't assume this will be available for ever. Keep the exe file.

To those who are having a problem when converting to registered copy from trial, you need to obtain the Registration Key and paste that into the box beside "Enter Key", This Key is quoted in your Ash Account and the second e-mail they send. Key is usually valid for as long as the product is downloadable. Ash also updates even free products as necessary. Automatic online check.

Thanks to the gauys n gals who replied to my earlier post (#20).

@ 29 Kapka: "..40-day trial

This is not the same offer that you refer to. the URL is different, and the offer is different. i found lots of different offers for versions 6, 6.6, and 7 - some free and many different prices for the paid versions

@44 Dr Ken: NOT FREE

I found version 7 at three different prices (and the version 6 options at an enormous number of prices) - then I found the free offer for version 7 that I listed. It does not mention on the download pages anything about time limits. I downloaded the program but did not install it yet. Have you found when you installed it (from the link I gave) that it says this is time limited? Please tell me how you found out it is time limited.

That is why I was asking if anyone could advise the best action. I am not going to insatll a program (which I suspect will remove or overwrite its predecessor) and then find out there are strings, like a time limit.

If it has a time-limit that the company does not tell you about til you have downloaded it, I am surprised.
I have several Ashampoo products, which are all ecxcellent for my simple needs.
The company support has been great. Today's GOTD offer says it has no support.
I have never been spammed by them - just got the emails and offers I signed up for.

I still am not sure what my best course of action is. The company guff and users' comments on the net praise version 7.

In the abscence of better info, I will be sticking with the version I have - applying "Better the devil you know" thinking.

Just uncheck the box on that line, and you should be fine.

This is a nice program. I purchased it some time ago and enjoy free updates. Not sure if this give away includes the free updates. I know the policy states no updates. But some programs can update, some can't. Anyway this program works well and is recommended. If you miss this you can get older versions of this program free. Just do a search in Google, etc. One more thing... the spam charge is greatly exaggerated. Yes they will send you offers but certainly not "several times a day" like some have claimed. You can easily op out of this email but you may not want to. After I bought my first program I received offers with decent discounts on their other programs. Many were too good to pass up. That's my opinion. Thank you GAOTD team for all of your efforts. Thank you to the publisher, Ashampoo GMBH & Co for you offering. I hope we see more of you here.

I'm not much for cleaners and optimizers. I prefer to do my own cleaning and tweaking. I've learned the hard way how much safer it is. That said, I do own this program. I use it to get information and for its right-click editing ability. My comment here is for AShampoo in general:

I use several AShampoo products, including their office suite, and I've never been spammed. I do receive a few promotional notices - VERY few - but I signed up for them. I like the company. Their products are solid. They constantly work at improving them and their support is good.

I installed Ashampoo WinOptimizer 6.5 that was given away in January [not sure if it was a GOTD or not] -- today's GOTD is v. 6.6 from February... I didn't see a change log, but it's likely a minor update [program file names are the same, but quite a few are newer]. Comment #3 talks about spam... maybe it's the spam filters running on RoadRunner's servers, but I haven't received any noticable amounts of spam from Ashampoo since that January install.

Going by the records from that January install, there were 179 registry entries added -- that includes many temporary MUICache keys/values & several in the Ashampoo key, so the impact of installing WinOptimizer 6 was rather light. 1 file was added to Windows' system32 folder: "DfSdkBt.exe". The program's folder holds ~45MB in 612 files, 6 folders.

Some people swear by these sorts of utilities [& optimizers of one sort or another], but other than the occasional editing of the right click context menus, I normally don't use them. Some of the system tweaks might come in handy with a new Windows install, XP more than Vista/7, but you don't need to continually set up or tweak Windows -- once you have something set it tends to stay that way. Most all of WinOptimizer's other functions can be done with individual apps that do a better job, though I can see where some folks would rather have the convenience of one program interface rather than using separate apps... there have been plenty of Paragon backup apps on GOTD, MyDefrag is very good, complete anti-malware suites are available very cheap or free [well-known suites are often on sale for ~$10], SysInternals [part of Microsoft] & NirSoft have quite a few free utilities including managing auto start apps/services & process monitoring etc...

Ashampoo WinOptimizer includes a Drive Cleaner, but since XP you don't normally need anything more than Windows' built-in Disk Cleanup [Start Menu -> Accessories -> System]. Of course if you save a bunch of emails, or downloads, or project files from one app or another, your disk(s) will still get full eventually, but you're the only one who can sort that stuff out -- no software is going to tell you what's good [i.e. that you want to save] & what's garbage. As far as going further, looking for duplicate file names & such, deleting any of those is risky business... for example, 2 apps may use separate copies of the same file, but each has no way of knowing that 2nd file exists, or 2 or more apps may use copies of the same file(s), but different versions -- in either case deleting duplicates can (& usually will) break things.

WinOptimizer also includes an Internet Cleaner -- I use Firefox in part because it can be set to delete all those traces every time you close the browser. Browser caches etc are limited anyway -- you set a max amount of space for the cache, & it'll never grow beyond that. If privacy is your concern, use the portable version of FireFox & then optionally [if you're paranoid enough] erase the free space where it stored [& deleted] it's temporary files... otherwise you probably left traces in the registry I don't think any 1 app will get rid of. Or check out newer privacy features in browsers like I think Opera.

And finally, enough's been said about registry cleaners &/or optimizers that I fear repeating it all will turn quite a few folks off... in a nutshell, registry cleaners look for dead links -- if/when an entry in the registry refers to something, a key or value or file that doesn't appear to exist, it gets flagged. You can uninstall an app leaving behind thousands of entries, & those without apparent dead links get a pass, while an app you use regularly might rely on a key or keys that appear to be broken, & so get deleted. Many apps that analyze the registry expect certain types of keys to have certain values present -- not every app includes/inserts those values. Long story short using a registry cleaner/optimizer is a crap shoot where some win -- some don't. If you want to take a more proactive approach, RegShot compares before/after registry snapshots in 32 bit Windows -- the harder to find RegShot2 works with 32 bit or 64 bit versions. Both can optionally monitor folders for changes too. Using them with any new install you can see & keep a record of just what changes -- in some cases where an app has huge effects I'll know right then to uninstall & restore a backup of the registry immediately. You can also save a copy of the reports from either RegShot or RegShot2 right in a program's installed folder, so if/when you later remove it, you'll be able to see what if anything's left behind. While it's not for everyone, sometimes an app install will make an awful lot of changes to the registry, but the app itself only needs 1 or 2 entries -- the rest is installer garbage... I'll export & save the keys needed, restore a backup of the registry, then merge the saved keys back. In the long run, for me with my addiction to software, I think it's worth it [but I could very well be wrong]. ;-)

Suggestions to use a throw-away email address do not always work as some sites will not accept throw-aways and you have to use a 'real' (as in accepted by them) address or forget about it.

Finally something worth getting. I've been using Ashampoo products for a few years now, typically worth their weight in gold. This program is feature rich, you can even change the interface skin. Also, you can turn off the E-mails from Ashampoo by unchecking the Ashampoo notification box when you get your license key. If you didn't see the box upon getting the license key, no worries, you can still turn off the spam. Typically Ashampoo gives you the option to stop receiving E-mails from them. Typically you can turn it off by a link provided by Ashampoo, located at the bottom of their E-mails. Enjoy.

@ #24, Ashish: Hi, i use win utilites 9.67 on an HP notebook win 7 2gb RAM. will there be any use for me to get rid of win utilites and switch to this software?

Short answer: suck it and see. GOTD is offering a great opportunity to compare and contrast. As every PC user, and every PC, is different, it would be daft for anyone to tell you -- where your PC is concerned -- that one utility suite will work better on it than another utility suite.

As to today's offer. Ashampoo is a good software publisher but -- and it's a huge "but" -- confusion about which app does what is systemic. Different freeware variations of the same software are released so regularly it's well-nigh impossible to keep track of just what is actually being provided.

Once upon a time, this name-game marketing tactic would've just about been OK. Nowadays though, the utilities suite sector of the software market is so totally over-populated there's no point in any computer user having to jump through hoops so as to work out if an Ashampoo offer is a 2009 Mk2 Version 5 or 2010 Mk 3 Version 2 or 2008 Limited Edition Mk 6 Version 15 or 2011 Special Edition Mk 3 Version 4b.

Instead, it's a lot less hassle to go to other software developers who provide either a suite that is always freeware or one that is normally commercial ware but being made available free of charge for a limited period.

Just adding my agreement that WinOp6 is great - used it since it came out - and that spam is what you make of it - Ashampoo does NOT sell Viagra! They email you ON AN OP-OUT BASIS about their products - I own all of their releases except two and they are the best. I highly recommend their FREE firewall; I use their PRO firewall. Try this one! You will get more Ashampoo programs - they have a program that discounts your future purchases - I'm up to a 60% discount on all their software. I'm a big fan, and you will be too. WinOp 6 gives you real control of your up-to-XP system. They are one of the reasons I dumped LOSE7 and went back to XP--there are no good controls for LOSE7...

Ashampoo have been in business for a long time (relative to computer years) and have marketed some good software to cover just about any task that needs doing on your PC. I've tried some of their free offerings in the past and whilst I don't have any use for some of them, including this offer, there are also some that are damn good. They are always striving to improve on everything that they do with constant upgrading and refinements. They also hand out regular freebies of their older versions. Yes, they do send out junk mail,.. some of it is worth reading but if it really bothers you, just mark it with your spam filter,.. too easy !
BTW.. Nothing at all to do with this offer but I rate Ashampoo Burning Studio as the best and easiest program of its type

In my opinion, I rather use WinUtilities than Ashampoo products, because WinUtilities's tools are much more reliable, accurate, and... well, it's hard to explain.

I have been using 3 products; WinUtilities, Glary, and Ashampoo for 4 months already and I decided I'm going to stick with WinUtilities only since it has all the same features of the others, but with more stuff packed into it and free updates!
