Harold is right. There is no flexibility to modify their templates. If it has their writing on it, you cannot take it off, same with their pictures. And worst of all, there is no blank page that you can use to start from scratch. You also cannot make greeting cards that fold.

Collette,

I tried navigating to C:\Program Files (x86)\Ashampoo\Ashampoo Photo Card 2\frames\Card\Animals and I see the file extension is their proprietary .apcdoc. I tried changing the extension to .bmp, .gif, .jpg and they all could not be read by any of my graphics programs. My idea was to open the new extension in a graphics editor and make a blank template based on dimensions, then change the extension back to .apcdoc. Unfortunately this did not work.

Sorry, I tried.

I found Photo Card 2 pretty easy to use. I only have one suggestion. I chose to send a webmail through Yahoo! Mail. When the mail was created and sent, there wasn't a live link in the email. I know I'm being picky, because I really love this software.

I sent the card again and put my cursor in front of the h in the address and hit enter so it had it's own line. I then put my cursor at the end of the address and hit enter and there was then a live link. The link's words changed to "Ashampoo Snap Web Upload" (in blue and underlined) with a partial pic of the card beneath it with the same words on it plus "A picture, shared on the Ashampoo Snap Web Upload" beneath them. It looked really nice and professional. I was just wondering why this didn't do this by itself?

I also changed the subject line and this didn't seem to both anything. I appreciated that.

I like the program creating it's own folder in the Pictures folder and saving there. It makes my life much, much easier.

I love the card and plan on using this software. Thanks Ashampoo and GOTD for the gift.

This program is far too limiting. One has to use one of their 86 templates included with the software and many of them are not particularly attractive. In fact, if my first impressions are similar to that of other customers, I doubt that more than 10 percent of the templates would actually create cards that anyone would choose to share. The problem is aggravated by the fact that the templates cannot be manipulated to make them more suitable; while the inserted pictures can be resized, cropped, etc., to fit within the picture frame, even those changes are limited since the frame size and location are unchangeable within the template. For example, in the template of a kitten above a ball, the picture goes in the ball and the size of the ball and its location cannot be adjusted.

In their help screen and on their website advertisement the company says:

"A template for every occasion--Christmas, wedding or birthday, Ashampoo Photo Card 2 comes with numerous thematic templates for every occasion. Combine that with the integrated clipart library and you get nearly unlimited design combinations."

It sounds great, but it just is not true! For example, "every occasion" does NOT include anniversaries, patriotic holidays, sympathy cards, and numerous other occasions for which cards may be desired.

The longer I played with the software the more convinced I became that the primary purpose for releasing this program is to entice people to buy more templates at $1.99 per set of 5 templates (which one apparently can't review before purchase to assess their usefulness). I can't imagine this business model being successful. I definitely would not pay the $7.99 ("member" price) or $19.99 ("non-member" price) quoted on their webpage until the program has become much more versatile. Neither would I be willing to pay $1.99 sight unseen for only 5 templates.

My wife enjoys making greeting cards, and I hoped that this would be a program she would enjoy, but software she used 15 or 20 years ago provided better options than this program. I would have liked to give a more positive review, but I just can't! Sorry!

And how long is this program good for? It says a time limited offer.

Dale, "time-limited" refers to the 24 hour period you have to download it for free.

Ashampoo Photo Card 2 does not your standard Windows GUI, but it's very easy to navigate. I created a hilarious Card using my German Shepherd as the main photo.

As with all Ashampoo applications, they come with many languages and some unnecessary files that can be deleted. If you're strictly using the English version, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Ashampoo Photo Card 2 directory and delete all readme_*_*.htm files. You can also delete license-DE.txt and license-EN.txt. Check C:\Windows\System32 for dbghelp.dll, if it exists you can delete this file as well. You can also delete the updateMediator.exe file as we are not allowed updates.

Now select the lang folder and delete all files except for ACA-en-us.unilang, ash_inet2-en-us.ashLang, crashrpt_en-us.ini and peru-en-us.ashLang. This is a total of 162 files with space saving of 928 MB!''

Select the Help folder and delete APC-de-de.chm as this is the German help file. This file is 3.61 MB in size.

After opening the program, I'd suggest going to Configuration > Service channel and uncheck the box, I don't care for programs that "phone home".

Happy space saving and faster loading.

susiekay1649 - 'disk' in this case will also mean anything on your hard drive / PC

Stuart, Thank u, was about to say the same...

Disc should probably be used instead of "disk" but no big thing or they could say "your drive"...in any case susiekay1649, click on disk to bring contents of your harddrive into view and your set..

Has anyone else had problems getting an icon for this program onto the START Screen. Doesn't go there even if I tell it to 'pin to start screen' - maybe it's just me :-(

Sorry to say that the templates they offer are either garish, crass or sickly sweet (kittens, etc.)
Don't want to sound bourgeois/elitist/arty-farty or whatever - I'm just a regular Joe - but I think lovers of My Little Pony might get a lot of use from this. The rest of us would appreciate more useful templates.

(Ducks quickly before the abuse starts! I know how this site works....)

Completely locks up my Windows 10 resulting in that the keyboard and mouse are frozen. Reinstalled twice and always the same problem. First Ashampoo product that I've had do this.

OK, feel really dumb - but the opening screen only gives two options - open with webcam or with disk. I don't have either one. How does this program open? Can't find an .exe file, nothing in the menus.

susiekay1649, Don't feel dumb..just a simple oversight..disk in this case is referring to your hard drive....could be your C drive or any others you may have...

Kristy, sorry, I wasn't clear. Evidently the program wants the user to select a picture first. There is no indication of this. It opens explorer. No pointers to picture file, etc. Would expect the normal 'new' in menu to open a blank page as happens in great majority of the thousands of programs I've downloaded over the last 40 years. It didnt occur to me at rhe moment, pressed for time, to nav to the pc pics folder.

I don't normally comment here but I read the comments and make my decision whether not to download the programs. Even with a couple negative comments I am going to download this one, I've had it on other computers and enjoyed using it.
Thank you to everyone for all the great comments on the programs that are put up here and thank you to "Give away of the day" for providing them!

When a product is offered, the vendor's website must have examples of what the prog can do. Hardly any samples!

213 Megabytes! and there are only a few templates. The templates are OK, but nothing special.
