@ 92 (No Problem). Sorry but I already had a free account on there. It was very much a problem. I was unable to use this software. It may have not liked that I already had an account using the same email address although it really didn't tell me what was going on. It would not let me access the update code I'm not interested in going and making fake email addresses either just so I can try to get an activation code that is supposed to be free. I really don't think these companies care and I'm getting the impression that GOTD doesn't care anymore either. If you really want to give away something free stop making it a pain in the ass to get it free. It really disappointed me the way this was setup. Most software in the past I've downloaded from here has also included the free code in the downloaded file.

10MinuteMail works great for comments . I would not reccommend it for receiving your code . It may take longer than 10 minutes to receive your activation code . My experience was that I was refused another 10 minute extension . Not Dependable for receiving activation code .

Yeah There! Your 'Request FREE full version' button on your 'Activation Wizard' window does not work, hey there.

What is the URL for getting the keycode????

You should put that URL in the 'Readme' document, yeah???

This is over-glamorified software that does very little. Windows Media Player (free) can rip and burn CDs. The MP3 Tag Express give-away from a few days ago totally blows away the "Organize Files" feature of this program (and it's not limited to MP3s). The format conversion feature would be useful if it supported MP3.

I could go on, but Bjorne said it nicely: "Audacity is exactly 12 billion times better than this program. It’s been developed forever, and it is always free." So why even build a program like this in a saturated market?

@ 1 David - this is not Musc Studio 3.51 (2009) which uninstalled after installing MS 2012 - This is a recording from a microphone is not 3.51! He also has a wonderful interface! The truth - it is not too v4 but it is a great program! @ 19 Giovani - a big thanks for musicbe: http://www.getmusicbee.com/download.html! Very sike I'm glad that I can have both - MusicBee (also for it to contain radio) and Ashampoo Music Studio 2012 for all other tools-printing cover pages, recording the microphone ... - These are two beautiful programs ... Installed OK but I can't get the "Request FREE full-version key" to work therefore I can't register the program. It would be better if a url link was provided instead of having to click on a button that fails to send me to where-ever to fill the form in order to register.
It is now 1:55 AM on the 14th November here in the United Kingdom and I'm now very tired so I'm going to bed and will uninstall this program when I get out of bed later this morning, I hate it when things don't go according to plan but when shit happens it don't hit the fan instead it always hits me, I guess I must be very unlucky. I can not activate it. It takes me to a page, asks for my email address but then once done with that page it takes me to another page asking for my password which I don't have. I tried entering one to see if it wanted me to create one but it just tells me my password is incorrect.

installed/registered quickly (received the key code promptly).
ashampoo does have a history of trying to throw ads our way...whatever.
I was interested in seeing for myself the absence of the mp3 option. sure enough, it's not there. weird.
still will keep program because I am wanting to fool around with FLAC for a bit.
I will refrain from any editorials until I have tested the options/quality of the product. I am just thankful for a free product.
I do have one question for Ashampoo:
what product is this? Is it Burning Studio 12 or what? I cannot find a product listing for Music Studio 2012.

I give this a weak thumbs up. I realized for some reason Ashampoo couldn't or didn't want to license an MP3 encoder. I used the Ogg Vorbis encoder with CD quality and dragged the resulting file to Audacity to convert to MP3. Yes, it's a 2 step process and would be a pain to do too many files.
I've used CDEX for many years to rip to MP3. I don't know if that program is even available anymore. I've used it since Win95.
As far as giving Ashampoo an email address: I've used 10minutemail.com anytime I've downloaded anything from them after the first time I acquired a program from them and got slammed with advertisements (not spam since you have a business relationship with them and you can unsubscribe). It's not Spam or SPAM either as Hormel doesn't appreciate emailed 'spam' being capitalized.

Stopped using Ashampoo products because of the spam. Don't care what the whiners call it...it's spam. This software is weak and not worth the trouble. Lots of freebies that can do more. Giovanni...Taghycardia sucks and if I let it run it's course it would have buggered over a TB of files. Do you actually use and try all the stuff you list? Anyone can Google.

I have a few Ashampoo programs. Some bought, some free. I would have to agree with comment #1 - David.

Most, not all companies who have a daily giveaway here usually provide the latest version. One would think that they have an opportunity to get a great deal of feedback from users, many here who are very knowledgeable about the genre of software and competing/similar products.

Not much to be gained if a user, in this case, tries V3 and is unhappy or finds shortcomings, yet on Ashampoo's webpage for this product, they tout it is completely redesigned in the new version.

I think they would make a lot more friends and gain a great deal in marketing/feedback if they offered the latest version and let users give it a good workout.

As I write this, there are 67 comments posted. Most of them are diatribes against Ashampoo and their attempts to sell more software. The others bemoan the fact that the offering does not rip to MP3. Only two or three actually comment on the usefulness of Music Studio 2012 - the offering of the day. Think how nice it would be if we didn't have to read through all the moanings in order to find the few gems who actually tried the software and have something useful to say. Yes, I know that my comment is now #68 and is about as useful as the rest......

No mp3 support so yea... I'm sorry guys, but without mp3 you're giving me little reason to even consider giving up my email and trying this out. Thanks anyway but not today.

Stop the complaining and be thankful for what we ARE GIVEN FOR FREE!
No. If I'd only care about getting freebies it would be easier to torrent some cracked software rather than waiting for it to be offered here. Why bother with PaintSupreme if I can get a cracked Adobe Suite? Companies do not offer their products here for free just to get some thanks and please the relatively small GOTD userbase.

A userbase however that, just like GOTD itself, has a good reputation, otherwise those same companies wouldn't take the time or effort to offer their products on this site time and time again when they just as well could be making money from it.

Apart from promotional opportunities GOTD also offers the developers a unique testing grounds for their software. Whether the offer is considered good or bad, each day there are numerous reviews with really usefull feedback and there's atleast one idea worth implementing. And when developers like George Taylor come around you almost feel ashamed using their software for free as they are worth every penny. I don't mind paying a guy like that, that's money well spend.

I'm not the type to 'kiss my wallet goodbye', nor are developers like George Taylor or all those people who develop the amazing freeware/Open Source software we use daily. The Open Source software that powers about 65% of the internet I might add.

If you like the software then support the project and make a donation or buy a license. There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.

#4 here again. I finally found the problem with Ashampoo sending the email code.
If you ever have had a GAOTD Ashampoo product installed, it will generate email ads / upgrade reminders.
IF you turn off this ad / nag feature this seemed to also turn off emailing the codes.

Anyway, installed. Ran it through a few features that looked interesting.

Was excited to see an audio normalization feature. I'd LOVE one of these that works on movies. On music, Nero and others do this.

Liked that this recorder saw my Sound Blaster X-fi inputs.

And then found that this won't recognize MP3s, so it has little use for me.

Uninstalled.

Now I need to remove the ad nag email option, again.

@Barry (#39): The Fraunhofer Society did not invent MP3. It was based on work done by AT&T Bell Labs and Philips (Musicam). Fraunhofer produced the first publically available MP3 encoder and was one of the first to file for patents on some of the algorithms involved.

Perhaps the Fraunhofer encoder works better for you than others at the default settings, but double-blind listening tests show that other encoders can achieve better results.

I don't download anything anymore from Ashampoo because of the weekly amount of spam I received after installing software which was offered here about 2 years ago. I certainly let other people I know about my experiences which this company.

Unsubscribe???? I had tried many times to unsubscribe, but just when I thought it had stopped, another one would show up. I flagged it as spam in my gmail account that I access using pop as I have my gmail forwarded to another email account.

Inconsistent -
mp3 input supported for conversion
.... not for tag edit
.... not for checking (Broken File assistant).
(presumably 'cos no mp3 output is supported).

Trying to 'add' a folder which only contains mp3's in the last case gives a sort of flicker, but no comment. Guess it might have been nice to see 'Oops, those were all mp3 files, sorry, no can do
OK'

1. I use my main email for Ashampoo. I do not believe they are directly responsible for "hundreds of spams every day". That accusation is over the top, and there is no indicator that they actually gave an email address to anyone. That being said, even friends and family can end up having you marketed to - especially a few people out there who are cranky "the spam is killing me" types, who are targets of pranksters who will get them sent everything. Even if you enter goofy sweepstakes and invite this stuff, it would be difficult to achieve "hundreds" of spam mails daily. I call fibbing. Ignore the spamophobes, they are irrelevant here.

2. Ashampoo does opt you out and stops the emails immediately and for good when you unsubscribe. I opted out for a long time - now they are my homepage for Firefox only, and I still have no toolbar... easy. They let you opt out of the Search page and toolbar "hijack" - if you don't know better than to clear the check boxes and read a few of the main sentences in the install, you shouldn't be installing software by yourself - or handling sharp objects.

3. I allow all their email. It's a couple every week - which is a lot. It's a shameless stream of offers, and most people get tired of always seeing a few new ones. I'm a customer, and I allow the offers because I buy stuff from them. Keep an eye out for great deals. If you read their offers, once in awhile you'll get that certain product they make which you want for almost no cost. The last deal I got was about $6.

4. Ashampoo is good software - I wish we could discuss the benefits and features instead of what I'm writing now. It's as bad as the political bickering on the news sites. No MP3 conversion? That's worth talking about. Nice interface? Give them a little credit. I know the software runs good - it always does.

5. Give them a try - skip this deal if it doesn't appeal to you.
Your key will be on file with them and may or may not work with a different downloadable version of today's giveaway. Kinda cool benefit we use to get here with their offers - we actually got to keep them and own them... If you ever purchase, they will keep the download and the key available for a very long time. All of my purchased products are still downloadable and the key is posted in my account.

As far as emails from Ashampoo goes, there are welcomed here. I don't get a lot and am always interested in seeing what's new. I created a folder for emails like there and have a "rule" that says if it comes from them (along with others) to go into that folder. I look at it every day to see what the different offerings are from various companies. I seem to spend more money that way. Especially Newegg and Meritline. Gotta cut that out...someday...sigh...

I tested the today GOTD- even after custom install- it put some shortcut for “Software Deals” on my desktop, instead of shortcut of the installed program!

THAT WOULD ANNOY ME TOO. I have never had this; no idea what it is. There are currently ten Ash programmes on this VISTA laptop and at least twenty (yes, TWENTY) on my PC, which is XP).

I cannot recall ever seeing such a shortcut. I have not downloaded this freebie as I do not need it but when I opened MS3, I chose to downloaded the upgrade to MS4. That has no such shortcut.

Not doubting you for one second, but you know, there is a delete command on your context menus.

We get the spam idea. Stop blinking moaning about it. Either use Ashampoo or do not use them.

This is not a variation of Burning Studio, as far as I can see, but a version of Music Studio 3. I once posted here that I have never seen MS3 given away anywhere. To a large extent that is still the case as MS3 (which I bought and love) converts from almost anything to MP3, WMA, OggVorbis, Flac, WAV.

Clearly, then, the difference mainly is no MP3 conversion.

If you do not need that, get it. If you do, this offer ain't for you.

BTW New Burning Studio 12 beta seems to have incredible features added, like slideshow creator, doing away with the need to add Ash's propriety slideshow HD programme. So, it is a bargain with 60% off.

We all love freebies but I have become wary of many listed here because there is also free malware in the download. Not in all, but in a surprising amount. :(

As in all things - take care.

39. Comment by Barry –

Barry, do you work for Steinberg ? IMHO you don’t know what it is like having to use Steinberg Cubase, do ya? Not to mention the “Steimberg Support” which does suck. Roland is in the business creating DAWs by artists for artists and Steinberg is throwing stones at artist if they show their discontent. That’s the harsh reality with Steinberg.

The LAME encoder vs Fraunhofer

Fraunhofer is better for voice (spoken word in movies)
LAME is better for music (your iPod)
But in the industry for master recording it will remain WAV for decades to come unless some new-kid is managing to talk the Pros out of it using WAV.

It's difficult to find the middle between CBR and VBR when using MP3 and there is not a silver bullet. Generally 320 kbps at 44,100 Hz is something most players can play but there are devices that will throw a spike if encoded at 320 kbps at 48,000 Hz. For best sound quality you need to encode lossless (Windows Media Lossless is a good balanced choice but also AAC or SONY ATRAC aa3). Best is WAV at the cost of disk space.

Some providers who give away on gotd don't send e-mails on their products or install icons to their websites on your desktop. Some do, but give you an opt-out option up front. Others, like Ashampoo, give you an opt-out later option. For people to comment on this doesn't seem naive to me, but normal.
There's no easy answer for the retailer, but it's like the old cliche about the door to door salesperson. Sure, you can stick your foot in the door to keep the homeowner from closing it while you continue to do your pitch. However, you run two risks. 1: The risk that that very action will permanently sour the deal for you, thus wasting your valuable time. 2. That the homeowner might slam the door so hard as to break your foot, and still, no sale. Lol.
It surprises me, however, that some folks here who are, obviously, running web based businesses, don't understand this, and imply it's foolish for people to post against Ashampoo's policy here. There's nothing abnormal with anti-email feedback. It's just letting Ashampoo know what the competition is like and what the target market wants. Basic market give and take. There's a naive view in American capitalism that believes that business should have the right to maneuver for market position, but that the consumer shouldn't try to maneuver but should take what they're given and just shut up. That's what's really naive in this discussion.
After all, those that say they won't touch an Ashampoo product for this reason, obviously, aren't buying any Ashampoo products. Not sure that's a better business model.

Not sure what to think of this one. I’ve had Ashampoo products in the past (Burning Studio, Snap, Photo Commander, Home Designer), and they were all top notch, however I started getting hard drive error messages, which actually resulted in automatic startup scans taking several minutes (only to find nothing wrong), with ads telling me about Ashampoo HDD Control. I don’t care how well a piece of software works…if it messes with my system, and inundates me with spam, that’s a non-starter. I guess I just answered my own question.

A few comments about the comments above. First, Ashampoo is a great company that produces great software. They offer it here free, so you shouldn't bitch & gripe because they put a separate shortcut icon on your desktop to promote purchasing their other products. That is a very small price to pay for Ashampoo offering their products here for $FR.EE. Second, there seem to be a fair number of folks who install software by rapidly, as fast as they can, clicking through the installation screens without bothering to read a single word, then are surprised when they have a new toolbar or some other item installed. Ashampoo is NOT secretly installing software without your knowledge or expressed approval. If you do not want the add-ons, simply don't elect to install them. You can argue the merits of opt-out vs opt-in in such cases, but the point is that YOU need to take responsibility for installing software on your computer so read the darn screens & save yourself some heartburn.

This product is in line with Ashampoo's other products - well designed, performs well, with a good set of tools incorporated into the product. Thank you Ashampoo for once again sharing your products here for $FR.EE!

I'd like to say thanks for this, but anytime I see the name Ashampoo I run in the other direction. The products themselves aren't too bad, but they aren't that great either. Middle of the road.

I just hate their underhanded installation tactics and spamming tactics.
That's my 2 cents.

@Giovanni and others who have mentioned Taghycardia: I tried it, and I couldn't make heads or tales of its utterly non-standard interface. I had no idea what it would have done to my music files had I let it run to conclusion.

If you don't want to receive more emails from Ashampoo, register with an alternate email address that you don't use for anything else. How much easier can it get?

As always- a lot of spam from Ashampoo! A lot!

They have tons of applications, but- because of their spam- policy I do not use any of their apps.

I tested the today GOTD- even after custom install- it put some shortcut for "Software Deals" on my desktop, instead of shortcut of the installed program!
In the process of the registration they really want your real email. I made a mistake in the past to provide my real email- o my Gosh- huge mistake... Tons of spam, and the unsubscribe process is almost "mission impossible"! I tried to contact them, asking to stop spamming me- it was like to put a message in a bottle... Terrible!
The top of everything- I do not know why, but their software is always welcomed by the majority of the users. Well- in my humble opinion- it is not so great. Like the todays giveaway- no mp3! Really? In 2012 somebody offers an "audio" software without mp3- capability? Even WMP can rip in mp3!
The top the top- what is this version? 2012? There is no such thing on their website! What is this- a stripped version 4? An old version? A custom build for GOTD- users?
A lot of questions, but they will be never answered... Again- a message in a bottle... But that is OK- at least we have a "Software Deals" on our desktop plus a lot of spam on our emails...
I am testing all of their GOTD- offers, and ALWAYS I provide a disposable email. Probably they are not so busy, because next time I try to use a disposable email from the same domain- it is blocked! As I said- they REALLY need my real email- to spam me! Fortunately- the disposable email services becomes more and more famous, so they cannot block all of them.

Thumbs up for GOTD, and THUMBS DOWN for Ashampoo! Again!

This is the Ashampoo Music Studio product page. It's hidden on the link page GOTD provided.
