Update...
There is 3D pictures too that you can adjust for your project... but for what reason in a kids program like this ?

The lack of import own pictures is weird, because you can add those pictures into the folder of the default pictures.

Downloaded, installed, activated without a problem, not sure why things have to be so difficult for others?

Checked this out for about 10 minutes and I have to say this is a great program. My daughter (6 years old) loves art programs you find online and it's nice to have one on my comp that she can use (Photoshop a little too much).
This soft has quite a few extras that you don't usually find in the other online art programs, it even has connect the dots which anyone with kids know they will love.
Anyways, great piece of soft and one that is actually worth the price they are asking!
Thanks once again GAOTD, and Thanks ArcSoft for the chance at getting quality soft for free, my daughter would thank you too!

I tried installing this on the latest version of Vista four times, I did it as an administrator and while it goes through all the prompts, the program is nowhere to be found on my menu. Has anyone else had this same problem that could provide some advice?

Hi, I have been using various ArcSoft Programs on different PCs and never came across "DirectX" error before, untill..today!

Requirements for PhotoStudio Paint go as follow:

"Windows 7,Vista, XP
Pentium IV 2.4 GHz or equivalent AMD Athlon®
100 MB free hard drive space required for program installation
1G DDR RAM or above
16-bit color display at 1024x 768 with DirectX 3D support (Geforce 6800, ATI 9550 or above)
DirectX 9.0c or above"

My DirectX is up-to-date, my RAM 2.67GHz, so I believe the "problem" lies in Graphics Media Accelerator Driver? (my happens to be "Intel") - and since I have no problem running anything else - I'm going to give this Giveaway a miss:((

Thanks GAOTD anyway. Hope ArcSoft can cater better!

Totally NOT amused. Program cannot be launched, incompatible graphics card, please update your driver.

Have an NVidia 7600 GL video card with the VERY latest drivers. Aero enabled, Win 7, latest DirectX and DirectX runtime components. Only ever had this sort of problem with top of the range games that in any case need a dual core + processor and a very expensive video card.

Runs the latest Photoshop without the slightest of problems.

Can Arcsoft GET their act together as the NVidia series 7 are a VERY popular graphics card?

Perhaps an apology from Arcsoft is in order?

the registration process is awful - I failed with mine but it still looks registered, an no amount of reinstalling will give me a second chance. If it stops working, you've created upset people who will then never be customers.

Please fix any future offers, and don't do this unpack on C: version of the install like the games - it's a royal pain!

I like the program and my 8 year old is being very creative right now - would buy it on a nice discount if I could: $12.99-$17.99 seems abouy right.

Thans ArcSoft and GAOTD!

I remember buying my laptop and having it bundled with an ArcSoft photo printing package. I liked it better than the HP software bundled with my printer. Funny thing though, my laptop has an integrated Intel graphics chipset... so why would ArcSoft stop supporting Intel GPUs? To me, that's just cutting off a large portion of your potential market. Feels kind of boneheaded.

Easiest way to download and activate: For those who were (or were not) paying attention to comment #21. Go to www.arcsoft.com, click on shopping cart, select Photo Studio Paint, and enter the coupon code GVWYPSPFREE. Your bill will now show a ZERO dollar balance. Complete checkout, without filling in your credit card information, but most definitely with a valid e-mail account. The completed sale summary page will show you your registration key and give you a link to download an all-in-one setup program (that you can backup and reinstall if necessary).

This method is much easier than downloading, navigating and running the "burst open" InstallShield installer unpacked by giveawayoftheday's setup wrapper.

Too bad I won't be enjoying this on the kid's laptop with an Intel GPU...

Works very well on a touch screen Win8 x64 computer. Had problems on XPsp3(my hardware), but my students will thank you Mark Magill for the link. Thanks GOTD and ArcSoft. Would like to actually draw the lines in the numbered drawings using the touch screen. Would also like coloring by the numbers pictures in future versions.

Wow. I occasionally load and try a GAOTD program. This is by far the shadiest registration process I've ever stopped dead in the middle of. I'm not giving Arcsoft my address or credit card info for a trial. I have some Arcsoft software and hardware that I play around with on occasion. Not anymore.

No problems installing on Win7 x64, Just follow the instructions in the README.txt and NO you don't need a Credit CARD!!!! The program is very intuitive for Kids (old & new.... I'm 65 yrs young and still very much a kid at heart). While I do somewhat agree that 'real' as opposed to 'virtual' pencils, crayons and paint are good, some kids (like me!) don't have as much creativity as they might get from a program like this. This program does not do the work for them but provides excellent tools and visual/sound feedback. Great piece of software for the intended audience IMHO!

What a revolting activation process!! Surely, ArcSoft could do better than this?

Installed fine, but happened to click through the first page without entering an email address (left blank). Program started up fine, in what I can only presume is the free trial. So I uninstalled and downloaded again.

But try as I might I could not get the intial Welcome screen to come back up even with a fresh installation. There is no way to enter an activation code in the version in any case.

Either the email address is a ruse and there is no activation code needed or this thing will not work either tomorrow or on the 31st day following today.

@30 and @54 de gotd unpacks to C: there you find a folder called PhotoStudio Paint with the setup in it. you would have known if you had your eyes open when running the gotd setup
for others with graphic card problems, like comment #13 make sure you have a videocard and not a GPU, IT IS NOT THE SAME. A GPU is an onboard graphics processing unit WITHOUT it's own memory. Developers website clearly states Geforce 6800 or ATI 9550 or above, these are starting with 512Mb memory of themself instead of shared (shared means it take memory from your ram so if you have 312 shared GPU and say 1G of ram it takes 312MB from Ram that leaving you with 688Mb of ram for your system)
For those with activation problems try following instructions in #21 if this fails also i am sure that their support will help you out (see #1) As they have done always with my support questions

finaly for those who want to see first, a demo of the software made with Wondershare Democreator. Voice over is in Dutch but i am sure yall understand what yall see right? (although seeing some of above comments maybe not yall)

I have a Dell530 computer, Vista, 2 GB RAM, all the latest updates etc and still get this DIRECT-X 3D error everybody is talking about. So I went to the DIRECT-X Update site mentioned, it downloaded and installed a bunch of stuff, and it STILL doesn't work.

Freeware Alternative: If you want a simple, easy to use FREE program that runs on about anything (even Win9x) try TuxPaint at http://tuxpaint.org. I'm a teacher, and all of my kids from grades 1-8 love it. So if this program didn't work out for you, try Tuxpaint.

Not the easiest way of installing and registering but it eventually all fell into place. When it comes to the shopping cart page for getting the activation key, all I needed was a legit email address. I just put in rubbish for my residential address and phone number and didn't touch the credit card info at all. I received the code without a problem. Just follow the read me note that you get when unpacking the downloaded program.

PhotoStudio Paint is a somewhat cute kid's app [I think for kids the (full screen only) GUI colors should be brighter] that requires a 3D graphics card & has a somewhat onerous installation. I couldn't register the GOTD download, but installing the full version from the link ArcSoft provided after registration worked -- since the splash screen for registration/activation only popped up the 1st time the program was run, had to hunt around the menus & dialogs till I finally found the screen to enter the key [the button/icon looked like a sheet of paper].

PhotoStudio Paint uses an InstallShield setup, so I couldn't expand the files to see what's inside. And since the 1st thing setup does is check for a compatible graphics card, I couldn't fully monitor installation in Windows Virtual PC or VirtualBox VMs. Monitoring the registry before/after install in win7 64, Regshot2 recorded: New keys: 36, New values: 494, Changed values: 300, Total changes: 830... that includes quite a lot of entries for Tracing, vss, & keys like "rdyboost\Parameters", but the majority I *think* was for the InstallShield installer [Many TypeLib keys/values without descriptions that PhotoStudio Paint seems to run fine without]. PhotoStudio Paint itself appears to need/use just one key, though there is a service installed that's set to start with Windows -- I don't know if the service enables online, community-based features, if it's for advertising other ArcSoft products, if it's tied into DRM, or none or all of the above, but it doesn't have to be running for PhotoStudio Paint to work. Whether that service is operating or not, PhotoStudio Paint wants to phone home a couple of times when you close the app, & it does IMHO seem to have a bit of a heavy DRM feel to it, e.g. the ArcSoft registry key include a value with your Mac address. As far as files go, bearing in mind that I might have missed something since I couldn't do a full monitoring, the ArcSoft program folder in Program Files [32 bit] or Program Files (x86) [64 bit Windows] holds 1319 files, 79 folders, ~63 MB. There are also Arcsoft folders added to All Users App/Application Data, User\ Local Settings\ Application Data [XP] or User\ AppData\ Local [win7], User Application Data [XP] or User\ AppData\ Roaming [win7], & to Common Files.

Installed with no problem on WinXP. Unfortunately my creations is not visible. When I draw, paint or insert a template then everything is simply white. However if I want to paint my "white" drawing then the Print-thumbnail shows my creation with right colours.

Can somebody help me solve this problem?

Problem: setup is not possible, and halts before files are being copied.

As many users, I too get the following error on Windows 7 x86 Enterprise:

"Your graphic card, graphics card driver, or DirectX version does not meet the minimum requirements of this product. Please check if a hardware-accelerated Direct3D device with support of DirectX 9.0 is installed and its driver is up to date. The latest version of DirectX can be fount at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads.".

I have Aero enabled... So it can't be a DirectX problem!

Also, Windows 7 has DirectX >= 9.0!

Not a Windows device driver problem. Installed hardware, like predicted by #13, is a Mobile Intel(R) 945 Chipset Family.

Quote #13, Not Good: "developers forgot to implement i945 gpu."

So, when you have this graphics adapter, you are sheer out of luck :s Check your device manager if this is a problem for you too, when installation fails..

Have fun :P

It does NOT work for me, I have got a Windows 7 Vista and downloaded it and it stated it could not be installed as my directx D3d was out of date, I thought it rather odd as other programes has been working fine up to that point and those rely on this directx D3d, I did as they suggested and downloaded the latest 26mb version from Microsoft and I have the very latest version now installed, and I even re downloaded and reinstalled, and guess what ? IT DOES NOT WORK !!!
Probably the full paid version works, what do you think ?
