I had used the 4.5 version but found that Notepad plus is the best as its freeware also..

Apt Edit supports Unicode and this is a good feature compared to many freeware text editors.

There was a 4.5 version download from giveawayoftheday.com few months back. I dont know whether this 4.6 version was a necessary within short duration?

The best alternate text editor is the NotePad++ as it is a freeware and open source.

Last two GAOTD versions of AptEdit was too buggly - they craches frequently (I don't test this version yet, hope, it's better). The feature, I interested in this editor was HEX template. But bugs disallow to use the editor. After I found 010 Editor - it's HEX template functions and scripting are much more powerful, than in AprEdit. But it's buggly too. And shareware... Who knows any alternatives?

Yes, Notepad++ can edit both hex and binary.

Its free, you can check it out.
nd while I really like AptEdit, it there is a place for N++ as well on the system

How does this compare to TECO? Is there anything out there like TECO?

By default it installed into a new folder, thus leaving me with two versions of aptEdit on my computer (I had 3.4.7 from an earlier giveaway)
Would it be safe to uninstal the old version or will that sink the new one as well?

Had a quick around with this after installing and not something I can find a use for at all.
No doubt later will bring something better.

To be honest, There’s not many programs that everybody can use but I installed and tried to find a use for this but simply could’nt.
Uninstall went well though and left no traces in registry :-)

I just installed this program…. I have Home Premium Vista,
with a brand-spanking new, best of the the loaded system that
my son & hubby have been drooling over (they have their own computers, although theirs are a couple of years older).

I immediately received an error message when I tried to “launch” this
program – as happens to me FREQUENTLY with your so-called “free” software! Getting rather frustrated, actually! So I’ve been rather
choosy about which progs I bother to try and download from your site.

I’m NOT a newbie – been computing and surfing for quite a number of
years.

I have deleted this downloaded program from my system, and am going
to utilize one of the other free titles that have been suggested by
others.
