Amazing, I needed a partitioning software for a computer job I was working on, and I decided to roll the dice and check here that day. WORKED PERFECT!

Hi,

Vulcan's concerns are worth considering. However, the fact of the forum with some activity and 5.0 coming out soon is in their favor. And I do not see their product line as really worse than others, apparently their free partition is heftier than most, and this is heftier than free (and it looks like there is one beyond this.

Also I do not mind partition design in Windows. Generally the actual work is done on boot anyway, the Windows element is simply for ease of use and design.

So I compromised. I loaded it on a lesser puter.

If it were imaging software, I would be more concerned. Since that is often linked to the release number on restore and it is hard to test. Partitioning, although tech, is more straightforward.

Should they have better contact info, sure. However the forum makes it sufficient for now.

Steven

@k20 - There is definitely a need for 3rd party partition managers. I had to use Easeus to repartition a drive for dual booting Win8, solely because of Win 7's partitioning limitations.

merge non-contiguous unallocated space to a partition? Oh come new. This claim alone was enough to make me realize that I should not trust this offer.

This is excellent partition software. I wanted to extend my system drive C as it was getting full; I had plenty of room on partition D to take from (Windows7 x64). Windows 7 built in partitioning does not do this. Aomei worked beautifully (free version), in fact I resized all my partitions without a hitch. So much negativity in here!

Here is an old Software Marketing Idea.

Deliver the Disc(s) via US Mail once again..eh..
That way the MFG/Software Makers get many more people to use the products. yes the old PC Days were great !

Games as in types of Pin Ball Games not trying to make you give a monthly/yearly FEE to just play..eh..

On this Aomei Product it is nice to see a low MB download here.

Thank you!

But please get the Discs in the US Mail System to us Legal Americans. Hard COPY is Best! Proving then providing many more jobs too.

Knowing what it does..... I also know that I don't need it, because Windows 7 AND Linux have partition managers all along.
You get my point!!??

W7 x64
v4.0

installs into directory of your choice, 10 MB
looks clean

includes PDF Manual, & html doc
both are brief but also include internet links

adds an 'ampa.sys' driver into /windows/system32/, with a second version
in /SysWOW64/, & an ampa.exe into /windows/ (all totalling 1.5 MB)

how is this different from their "free" version? both show to have the
same feature set from what i can tell? PartAssist.exe & EPW.exe are
more recent in this "Pro" version, but otherwise ...?

EPW (extend partition wizard) looks like it should extend (increase) the
size of my system partition, in a logical manner, when its time

note that if you manually type in a size, like for a new partition size,
say "72 GB", you also need to enter at least a "G", so 72.G (the dot is
needed) or 72GB (no dot needed) or 72.GB, but a simple "72" will not
have an affect

Even reading the posts I am still confused about partitioning. I understood the need when I ran Win 98, but with Win XP pro sp3 I don't understand why it is needed or if it will help me. My hard drive is NTFS 76.6 GB with free space of 10.7 GB. Will partitioning help my storage or help my computer to run faster? mac-pc gave a good example of why partitioning is good on a new install, but will it help on a PC that is being used?

* Partition Wizard Bootable CD 7.1 (39 MB)

Burn the ISO file onto a CD using any CD/DVD Burner software (ImgBurn for instance).

http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html

Short Tutorial:
http://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-wizard-bootable-cd.html

As for Partition Wizard Bootable FLASH DRIVE, it looks like you can create it on your own through a special app called "Bootable Media Builder", which is only provided with MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition (NOT FREE!!) and other advanced versions!!

http://www.partitionwizard.com/bootable-flash-drive.html

Never mind...just download & burn the above mentioned bootable CD File ISO (39 MB) and you are done!!

In such way you can create/resize/merge partitions of your HD for FREE even if WINDOWS doesn't boot in anymore...cool, isn't it??

Though I personally prefer Easeus for partitioning (as a knowledgable user I use some of the potentially dangerous options, and the bootable disk is not stripped down), this might be a recommended product at first glance. Aomei does appear to be easier for the typical user to use, as it just contains only the most common tasks in the program. Though it does not have step-by-step wizards like Paragon, the main screen presentation of all of these partitioning tools are remarkably similar.

However, I always prefer third-party partitioning from outside Windows. Like most partition utilities that runs from within Windows, one of four sets of system drivers is installed into Windows in order for Aomei to work. There is no guarantee that these low-level storage drivers may not cause some unforseen interaction in almost every case. For example, Paragon's driver set screws up Recovery Console and has to be installed after some security software (cannot do upgrades, must full uninstall & reinstall both packages in the correct order). There is insufficient time to currently test for such hard-to-pinpoint interactions with Aomei.

For your typical user, I would suggest trying the free Minitool Partition Wizard Home which does the same functions as this "Professional" edition, plus adds basic data recovery. Runs within Windows and from bootable media.

This is an excellent "first effort" from Aomei, but splitting features into additional titles is not going to win you customers in a crowded marketplace with good, established competitors. I would not consider this a "Professional" edition, but more of a "home" edition.

It is not uncommon for many overseas companies to have a North American lawyer set up a shell corporation for legal and registration issues as Aomei has done. In the case of PRC developers, it helps keep funds and control out of the hands of the Chinese government as much as possible and websites beyond the "Great Communist Firewall of China". Seriously, would you like to call China and speak Chinese for tech support? Until Aomei gains significant market share, there's no financial return to setting up an english call centre. You have to forgive spelling and grammar mistakes if English is not their native tongue.

Like most things Chinese, half baked and no polish. Plus, like Vulcan Tourist very well spotted, a hilarious "About Us" page on the website.
You need to learn from Chengdu Yiwo how to approach a global clientele. They've come around a very long way in the last couple of years, with freewares that already compete with the big boys in this game and putting your so-called "Pro" versions to great shame.

And I am not speaking as a kid (despite my name): I've been using Windows software since windows 2.0, and that's a few decades ago!

Disregard the picayune (bordering on absurd) comments here and give this a try if you need a partitioning program. It works and its interface is very clear and easy to work with.

It doesn't (apparently) know how to work with linux formatting but linux has its own tools that are quite good, so no harm, no foul.

Is it better than freebie alternatives? I like its interface better and it is more difficult to make a mistake for noobs than others I have seen so, yes.

Is it better than payware alternatives? Since it is free today, yep. If it weren't free? Not sure of the pricing for this but ... maybe though probably I'd go with PM.

Hi Folks

Comment by R_Puchta @ No.9 = "Is this again the kind of software that makes your computer compromized? Just wondering, it’s not a hard trick to do such backdoor and voila you have a hacked root-kited system ready on partition-level. Not trusting this one, sorry!"
This is such an irresponsible comment - it's opinions like this that fuel the use of HOAX Virus e-mails - Rather than learning the FACTS - it's just easier to spread panic. What on earth gives you the idea that a software is likely to infect your machine - just because you don't know it's maker ? - IF this was the case - I'd never have tried the Eaesus title or even the excellent Process Lasso - I'd never heard of either before they appeared here - now I use both constantly. If you're not prepared to prove to yourself the status of the software - ( Even in a SAND BOX ) - then don't cause panic for those who maybe !

This text was last used on 11/01/12 – v9.1 EaseUs Partition Master 9.1 . . . BUT is fully relevant today ! There may be many who never saw it first time.
----------------------------------------------
This first section is aimed at helping those who do NOT understand Partitioning - NOT to patronise those who do !
For those wondering what this software is for - whether they need it or not . . . - The first thing I have to say to you is - since you have no idea what this software is for - YOU SHOULD NOT USE IT on a main Hard Drive containing valuable Data !
First try it out on an old HDD on an old PC or Laptop to prevent accidents ! Practice makes perfect & all that !!!
Right - onto what it Is / Does . . .
Imagine you have a sheet of A4 paper - you fold it in half & then in half again . . . You STILL have ONE piece of paper BUT with FOUR separate sections ! This software does EXACTLY that to Hard Drives - only it doesn't have to be halves - it can be any size from about 5Mb upwards - ( smaller would be unable to contain relevant data & Format etc. ) - although the smallest I use is 100 Mb for my Boot Data Drive !
----------------------------------------------
I've personally been building PC's / Hard Drives etc. for around 16 years now & a method I developed early on & has served me perfectly ever since is that I typically set ALL PC Hard Drives up as C: / D: / E: / F: / G: & H:

C: Boot Data - ( 100mb )

D: Environment - XP / Seven

E: FallBack - Usually XP BUT in the past I've used 2000 - whatever the customer owns. Even Win 98 would work BUT it would need updating with add-ons in order to read larger drives & those with NTFS File systems etc.

F: Programs - This is where Office & AutoRoute / Encarta / Games etc. & ALL the GAOTD Software Downloads are installed to . . . NOT Windows Drive / Program Files !!!!

G: Media Drive - All scans / photos / Films / Music etc - NOT in Windows / Documents !

H: Virtual DVD - Stores setups / drivers & Backups etc. Also Downloads saved here in most cases - where an External Drive is not available !

I: & if the Hard Disk is BIG enough - purely for Backup !

You can see the ENTIRE Drive Array Structure of my Main Laptop here . . . http://Macs-PC.Net/drive-array.php/
( Note - The Boot Drive does NOT show when in Windows 7 BUT IT IS THERE ! )

WHY bother going to all this trouble ? Well - having learned from WAY to Many instances where a Windows crash has left everything LOST ! - yes there are softwares to get stuff back - BUT this way - if Windows crashes - load up the FallBack Windows - MOVE everything you need off the Main Windows Drive & Restore it - NO DRAMA !
PLUS - the only way to lose absolutely everything as with a single Drive C: is if the MBR ( Master Boot Record ) - the Index for the entire Hard Disk is damaged - & even then - There are 2 MBRs ( 1 as backup ).

This also DRAMATICALLY cuts the time of Defrags etc. & you can backup the stuff you need to - individually & quicker - AWAY from the Windows Drive.

I appreciate that this system is not for everyone - companies would NEVER do this - 'cos it's way to much work for them to bother with ! I've set up more than 200 systems this way & NOT ONE complaint - in fact in a few cases of Virus or system crash - it's proved a God-Send !
IF Poss - I do try to put the FallBack Windows on a second HDD even if it's only 3 - 5 Gig in size - it's only there as a last resort !
Obviously SYSTEM Backups etc. are made onto Secondary Drives AND DVD / External & Network Drives. I typically TRY to use 2 Drives in a system - 1 Primary with MAIN Windows / Programs / Media & Virtual DVD & then 1 Secondary with FallBack & Backups.
IF this is NOT possible they DO all go on the same drive BUT you usually find that IF the MAIN Windows goes down - it's eaier to go in through Fallback Windows & then copy all Documents / valuable data etc. onto the Backups Drive ( OR Virtual DVD if no Backups Drive is available ) then Format & Re-Install Environment Drive. Then Transfer Data BACK !
It's purely an extension of FallBack - NOT a COMPLETE System BACKUP !
FallBack drive itself is usually around 3 - 5 Gig - enough for XP & it's PageFile etc. a separate AntiVirus & FireWall & NOT MUCH ELSE ! A Backup Drive just extends this for short-term data transfer storage etc.

Normally when a partition fails - the others are safe & even when they all fail - THEY CAN BE RECOVERED - as per my post above !

You can see HOW I create the structure etc. here . . . http://Macs-PC.Net/hard-drive-upgrade-updated-lo-res.php/

———————————————-

I've been using this system since the '90s . . . WITHOUT PROBLEMS - IT WORKS ! Usually with Multiple drives except in Laptops etc. I've used a mixture of Fat32 & NTFS & on some older MotherBoards I've had to use FAT for the Boot partition as the BIOS didn't see the Boot Data ot the others. Even THEN - the system was completely stable & ran without issue !!!

Even though Windows System Restore is NOT the most reliable in my experience ( even on SINGLE PARTITION Drives ) - IT DOES work on a Multi Drive system although I usually remove E: / G: / H: / I: from Restore as these too would be rolled back. Leaving ONLY Environment Drive AND Programs Drive.

I've stated on many occasions on this site that Fubar, Ashraf, Mike & Bubby are streets ahead in their Microsoft Technology knowledge compared to me BUT I go by what I learned from EXPERIENCE - I try stuff - if it works for me - I stick with it - if not - I TRY ANOTHER WAY !!!
----------------------------------------------
I've not yet had a chance to test 'Aomei Partition Assistant Pro 4.0' yet BUT I WILL - I'm off out shortly but when I get back - I'll put it through it's paces on an external drive.

From some quick testing of the interface functionality it looks really good.

Disk copy worked well for me, having said that the information that appears at the end regarding booting from it needs to be clearer.

A few useful tools in a small package that I am happy to keep.

@reghacker

your recommendations renaming system DLLs within the system folder of a Windows OS can cause other software applications that rely on these DLLs stop functioning.

The MFC Runtime DLLs (Microsoft Foundation Class ) are vital to applications that were developed using the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/abx4dbyh(v=vs.80).aspx

I urge everyone not to rename Microsoft Runtime DLLs in the system folder.
If you copy the original Runtime DLLs and place the renamed DLLs in the application folder it is a different matter...

But what strikes me always at first sight is hiding company contact information, and the affiliations... etc, etc.... - That is one other point that makes me walk away. I found one interesting benefit that makes this program worth installing just for that: The program will run a checkdisk on each active (locked) drive from within the program. It saves me the time-wasting need to have the computer reboot to obtain exclusive access to the drives in DOS mode. I will keep the program for that feature alone! Using XP PRO SP/3.

Thank you AOMEI Technology and GAOTD for this little gem!

My mistake, on install it is the Professional version.

What's with the popup SAVE window............will it ever go away.

FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY..............Check the C:\windows\system and c:\windows\SysWOW64 directories for mfc80.dll, mfcm80.dll, mfc80u.dll, mfcm80.dll, msvcm80.dll, msvcp80.dll, and msvcr80.dll

Rename these files.........Example: mfcm80.dl

Now run the program and make sure it functions correctly.

Here are some key features of "Aomei Partition Assistant Professional Edition":

If it is better than Partition Magic, then it is good because I have used Partition Magic before XP days, and always satisfied with the results. But most of us who already have at least a software installed for partition purposes, will not care to install another with the same function. Be sure to go to their website to see for any unique function that may not be present in your installed software. Maybe you need this, just in case.

That beins said....did you know that WINDOWS includes its own partition manager?

So to manage the partitions of your HD there wouldn't be any need to download any third-party partition manager software like the one offered here today!!

Don't believe me?? Just read here:

I wonder if the partition tools market can really bear yet another contender, especially when the developer pulls stunts like trying to arbitrarily separate some features that obviously belong together into separate products (q.v. Partition Assistant, Dynamic Disk Converter, Dynamic Disk Manager, NTFS to FAT32 Converter) for no reason other than padding the profit margin. This is made all the more pointless because all of them will share a significant codebase. Aomei isn't the only developer of partition software that has done this, but Aomei seems to be abusing the tactic worse than, say, Paragon.

When I see a company so deliberately trying to disadvantage me in a transaction(s), I'll walk away and refuse to buy just on principle. I won't even touch a giveaway if I know this is the way the company views its potential customers. That's just basic economic self-preservation; if you can clearly see that a company views its customers as ignorant or inferior, walk away!

There has been quite a few partition manager giveaways, one of them I like is the one by Easeus, I have the recent giveaway of version 9.10, as compared with today's giveaway, is this giveaway better than the Easeus one?

Is this again the kind of software that makes your computer compromized? Just wondering, it's not a hard trick to do such backdoor and voila you have a hacked root-kited system ready on partition-level. Not trusting this one, sorry!

I have tested various disk partition management applications since I owned a PC. My first experience was powerquest partition magic which was an excellent software in XP period, but not compatible with my current Win7. Today I came across Aomei Partition Assistant Pro 4.0 and tested it at the first time. This program seems to be as good as any other partitioning program that I have used.

Paragon and Easeus gave away their partition managers here so it's nice to see a little competition. For a beginner who is unsure of what, how, what for a Partition is. This does make it easier than Paragon, to understand, because the Layout and graphs are nice and simple. They do need a little perfecting to convince professionals. I find the skin a little unprofessional too. I don't feel like fiddling with it to check it's total competence but what I have seen so far is ok and according to Aomei's webpage they give a 30 day money back guarantee, so that should mean it does it's job.

Hi,

Two good points:

Review of the free edition by FreewareGenius
http://www.freewaregenius.com/2012/03/08/partition-your-hard-drive-with-aomei-partition-assistant-home-edition-a-powerful-yet-simple-free-program/

A real forum
http://www.aomeitech.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2&sid=863c1f90c6b05298e0ad5c853dbeaa88

While my first partition program is MiniTool Partition Wizard, (also excellent reviews, eg. Gizmo)
http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/best-free-partition-manager.htm

The Gizmo discussions raised questions about Linux file structure support in the free Aomei and having to use the CNet download (when Aomei was brought up as new in the discussion section). And did like another Aomei product.

All in all, worth researching tomorrow, thanks GAOTD.

I'm not impressed. I fired it up, and then plugged in a flash drive.
I had to restart the program before it would notice it. Then it only showed me one of the three partitions already on the drive, and told me it was unformatted even though there is data on it. So far, I'm not impressed. Show me how to install this on a BartPE CD, and maybe I'll be interested. I'm not sure I'll ever use this. PM, Gnu Parted, GParted, and the resize tools in more recent versions of Windows seem to work well enough for me.

I also noticed the useless dialog pointed out in post #2.

Not sure why you claim to have a more complete tool than partition magic, i have been using PM for years and have not found a good tool that does the same that costs nothing.
Fix your spelling mistakes first though, because that is something you will really get bashed for.

Why is the first screen I see, which is a Welcome to use page, showing

The page is building...
Please update the page: http://www.extend-partition.com/pa-gotd.html

Anyway, the interface is quite akin to Windows XP's Royale Theme, which is easy for navigation use. And it's straightfoward with what you can do with it. Will use it when I have free time I guess...

I'm wondering whether people are rating based on experience and feel of the program or just what it does and whether you have use for it or not. If you're rating based on experience and feel of the program, Say you found this useful. If not say you didn't find this useful. I'm really curious how many people would rate without a care.
