Anybody had their GAOTD AnVir convert back to a trial version after 27 days? Before then it was a GAOTD registered copy.

One problem I had was that all the settings I unchecked when installing (start on windows startup, etc.) were checked when I went to the settings tabs so I had to uncheck them all again. Hate when that happens...

I was using the previous GOTD version of this on my old computer, and when I got my new one, one of the first things I installed was the free version. One of my favorite features is the delayed startup. I'm so pleased to get this updated version. Thank you AnVir and GOTD.

tried adding this as an idea to add but it wouldn't let me.....

It would be nice to see which tab of a browser you are dealing with when looking at how much memory or CPU etc you are using. If you have multiple tabs open, if one for example has a flash memory leak, it can be a major issue. Would be nice to know more about which tab rather than just one of multiple in IE, or Chrome etc...

Is this software free only for 20 days? Mine says it is a 20 free trial. If I had known that, I would not have installed it, or have I done something wrong.

Fascinating reading everyone's opinion on the software. I have Process Lasso via GoTDfor process monitoring and Soluto as Alpha & Beta tester for startup/crash/add-ons management. For CPU temperature I use the rather geeky, individual core reporting RealTempGT also free. The only one I would consider changing is Soluto as it's seemingly a bit heavy in it's startup but it such a *nice* looking program.

After thinking long and hard about this, I decided to keep with what I have working already on my venerable Windows XP PC. Thanks anyway, it is nice to see all 3 bundled together in one application. However, I'd love to hear what working set memory load the application has when running at background, open, & after a full boot.

RealTempGT - 1 thread at 2,472K
Soluto - 3 threads at 99,192K, 82,392K & 24,704K
ProcessLasso - 2 threads at 10,516K & 2,184K
total : 221,460K

Installed and activated very easily. I installed it about 6 hours ago was pretty impressed with it. Then I tried to launch a Steam game. The game launcher crashed about 7 times in a row; since this was the only program I've installed today, I thought it might be the problem. I ended the AnVir Task Manager process (ironically from within AnVir Task Manager) and my Steam game started up fine. I'm keeping it for now, but it would be better if I didn't have to terminate it for gaming.

Hmmm. The program was blocked by Ad-Watch Live! Alert The process has been identified as Trojan.Win32Agent.a (fs)

Additionally, the download drops the Reg Organizer installer on your hard drive (even if you uncheck the box) for a later install from the menu on the Anvir Task Manager. Attempting to run the program from the menu launches the license agreement and enables installation of the previously declined program.

Not cool... and No Thanks!

I have the "pro-" version of the software. it is one of the absolute "must have" weapons in my arsenal. (I fix other people's computers for a living).

Along with its own version of an assessment of different applications and how dangerous they might be, you can also upload potentially dangerous finals to a website called virus total which users around about 40 different anti-virus scanners and it posts back all the results, so you can see if other virus scanners believe that the file making uploaded it is a virus or not.
It includes a start-up optimiser, which assesses all of your start-up directories and lets you choose what should and should not start. In the more advanced options, you can even delay start-up times for different applications. Instead of having all of your programs starting up at once as your computer boots, they can be delayed to start up one after the other so that your computer does not freeze the instant it is turned on.
It and useful shortcuts in your tray icon to recently opened applications and folders, to an overview of how your system is running, from your hard drive speed in temperature, to your network status.
Some of the features of the software are actually a type of plug in. Those plug-ins are actually other pieces of software that the company sells. one of them is the "Registry optimiser" that have had so many comments on here so far, anyway I personally don't use any of those.

on a side note: You shouldn't need Registry optimisers. Instead you should be running some kind of sandbox software, or testing software in a virtual machine before you let it run on your workstation. you should test any new software outside of your actual computer environment before you ever listed in. Otherwise you will end up installing and uninstalling all kinds of software that you don't want, and this does have the potential to lead to issues.

In the meantime, this is a must have piece of software, for anyone who has a Windows based computer. Anyone that puts a thumbs down on this, has no idea what it is that they are truly looking at!

Yes, it is an expensive piece of software, however it really does so much - that if you were to hunt around and look for all of the different pieces of dedicated software that do each job that this can do individually, it would cost over $150. If you look at it like that, and makes this software more affordable.

For those of you who are more technical out the, this can be successfully virtualised with almost any software - From Spoon Studio right through to cameyo, I have even managed to do it with the portable apps PAC! Anvir Pro on the go!

I don't know what's going on with this version of AnVir, unless it's a conflict of some sort between its new features (such as compatibility with Windows 8) my computer and/or the software I have on my computer, but the GAOTD setup.exe for this program crashed not only my ZoneAlarm Extreme Security v. 10 but also FireFox 10 ESR. Therefore, I will not be installing this one but rather staying with the older version of it. For whatever it may be worth, I am running 64-bit Win 7 on a tri-core AMD cpu, and I have not had such problems with other programs, except for once not too long ago another GAOTD setup.exe did crash my ZoneAlaarm, which I reported at the time. Please look into this. Thanks. And also thanks for the offer, anyway.

This offering made my day! Believe it or not, only a couple of days ago I reinstalled my system and was frustrated about the previous AnVir version not getting registered anymore. The intervals of appearance on GOTD which between 2007 and 2010 were a few months each misled me to the conclusion that 2 years and 2 months after the last offering the chance of a "comeback" equalled zero. Can you imagine me this morning staring at the present website?? (:-)
The concept of AnVir TaskManager is brilliant in that you get under a well layed-out and intelligently multicoloured surface all informations necessary to see what's going on within your system. I like it much more than MR's Process Explorer for its user-friendlyness and tab structure. I wouldn't mind if AnVir was giving away the Pro version one day but fortunately as has already been said another GOTD, Process Lasso, provides us with the two major AnVir Pro features.

One word of sorrow though: Where is Fubar? He is known to be an ardent supporter of AnVir TaskManager and used to comment each time it was on offer. Without your opinion, Fubar, let me tell it straight-out, something is lacking.

I use the program on a regular basis and like it.
I don't like the advertising or bundled software.

Anvir Task Manager periodically comes up with this message:

One new startup item found

Name: Conime
Valu: %windir%\system32\conime.exe
Product:
Startup: Registry: Machine\Run [Wow6432Node]

It does not exist on the hard dive and I've eliminated any startup loading in the registry.

I always choose delete, but it keeps coming back

Any ideas?

To give you an example how much the program improved since the 2009 dotTech version...

The auto-start feature; I compared the before & after numbers for my work / install-everything computer.

"All Items" count went up from 86 items recognized to 215 (!)

105 of them were detected as 'new' startup items.

I expect my boot-times to go up considerably.

Also, one can use the program to limit processes that consume too much CPU etc.

Peace!

I installed 6.7 right over 6.2, and it kept the options I selected (in 6.2) in 6.7 as well.

#47 -- hate to break it to ya, but MS itself admits that 53% of home computers and a whopping 60% (59.something, actually) of "Enterprise" computers still run XP. Can't find the link to the article I saw this in the other day, of course, but feel free to check it out. It ain't over 'til it's over. Hi again, my question goes to Regular and Experienced Users of AnVir Task Manager, relates to Delayed List of Items on Startup and involves this Error Message when booting Windows: "Security Account Manager failed to initialize"..

Presuming it IS Service coming up with this Message(?), but according to Help on this Item stating: "Services and Internet Explorer extensions can not be placed to delayed startup" - What else in this "Bundle" could be used to STOP this Message from "having time" to kick in.., and spoil (prevent) normal booting??

Second question: If SAM file on OS drive becomes damaged (hence Error Message?), but is essential at booting time - WHAT priority does it take (Processes, Startup Programs, what?) and where (again in Anvir Task Manager) would it appear to be spotted and possibly "dealt with"?

I'm going to give it a try despite the following:

Comparison of editions:
http://www.anvir.com/task-manager-windows-startup.htm

The edition we're getting DOESN'T support:
1)Permanent blocking of undesired processes

2)Save of changed priority of processes

3)Running of programs as services on Windows startup before user login
4)Monitoring of threads, handles, performance counters

That's not very appreciable...

I have happily used Anvir task mgr. 6.2 since given away here. It is the first of it's kind, including the popular Process Explorer which, after replacing Windows task mgr and monitoring full time did not destabilize my XP machine.

I'm only waiting to install when someone (ANVIR SOFTWARE, perhaps?) advises me as to whether I can install over 6.2 or should remove 6.2 and clean registry before installing 6.7.

Good Work as always GAOTD crew.

I have used Anvir Task Manager for a few years now; a lot of other programs have the same basic functions either as a standalone or included in their packages. I have kept this one for one reason - the floating icon. I have searched for this feature as an app or standalone but the only one I found was 'Extra Buttons' and it was nothing but problems. Thanks for the licensed version, and if anyone knows of an add-on, application or program that allows you to turn any window into an icon that you can place anywhere on your desktop I would be most grateful for the information.

XP SP3
v6.7

this program comes complete with crapware ("Reg Organizer") enabled by *default* on the installer. you must uncheck it to avoid its installation. (whether the program is crap or not is immaterial IMO as it should not be "added on" in any case.) http://www.chemtable.com/organizer.htm on initial program load, it goes through a brief (program) setup. that is acceptable.

registering, Help | Enter Registration Key, is simple enough. program restarts after "registering".

this is NOT the "Pro" version. there is a banner ad for the Pro version. it's unobtrusive, so i have no problem with it.
(wonder if there is an option to turn it off? wonder what additional features Pro has?)

tweaker. based on a third party utility.

the program is what it is, does what it does. i see no glaring issues. it works as expected, laid out in a useable manner.
easy to decipher. my only nit is startup items list that pops up on program startup. it can be annoying & in your way (though i think there is a setting to twart it?)

value, for me, not particularly. just not my cup of tea.

oh, glad that the #1 post is what it is that way i don't have to look through the anvir website to see what has changed
since the last giveaway ;-)

What is new in Version 6.7

1. Hidden processes monitoring.
2. Monitoring of additional Startup sections:
+ Task scheduler tasks
+ Internet Explorer panels
3. Display the temperature and load of a video-card.
4. Display the remaining life for SSD drives.

Improvements:

1. On Windows 7 and Vista the program runs with full rights (via Windows Task scheduler).
2. Display the temperature for new processors.
3. Improvements in the user interface

So it’s not exactly the same as V 6.5 given away previousy......

FREE PORTABLE VERSION:

Enjoy!!

Rather an odd (and expensive!) mix of features, though some could be useful, as in closing some individual processes, but normally there's a good reason when Windows prevents tasks being closed!

Process Lasso will do what the expensive pro version of today's GOTD does at about half the price, and there's a free version of Process Lasso which is quite comprehensive for most task management needs.

Process Explorer from MSN is free and does most of what task manager can't!

#33: [wrote] MUST have program!

1. shows HDD temperature when ran as Administrator,

....... My solution: Windows 7/Vista has free gadgets that does that and more.

2. MOST importantly: it monitors startup entries.

....... My solution: Many free programs (already mentioned) do that. With free WinPatrol YOU tell the computer what programs you want it to start and when to start.

Whenever a program wants to add itself to the autostart entries, one gets a choice if this is what one wants : )

....... My solution: WinPatrol does that and more.

Does this version of AnVir Task Manager really only work with XP or later? On a previous giveaway I installed it under Windows 2000 and it worked fine.

Some comments made it sound like this version is no different than the free version from their web site. Then there's this "Raymond.cc" site with a link to AnVir's site and a registration code. Is that the same as this except being 6.5 instead of 6.7?

I must say, I am quite impressed with today's giveaway. I have never heard of Anvir before, but I can see this is a program I will use on a DAILY basis. I especially like the delayed startup feature. I've now got half the programs starting up delayed; I think that will improve my startup time a lot. I also like the Windows enhancements alot - there are a TON of very useful bells and whistles in the program. I am not associated with the developers in any way. Bruce Borkosky

#45 Cynthia,
The software here is only valid to download for one day. So, you can only get it working on the day it comes on this site. But, most software here is available for continuous use as long as you like. It won't ever stop working - with some rare exceptions.

The only real problem is when your computer breaks down for some reason, and you lose it because you have to reinstall stuff. Then you will have to pay for it - unless you are lucky and a new version is posted here at the right time.

I recently got this program through Raymond.cc. I've tried it before and I like it. HOWEVER, on my system, it takes a great deal of memory compared to WinPatrol which I've used for a long time. In fact, AnVir uses a whole lot of memory compared to just about everything. I can't let it run. I only pull it out and use it to track certain things. Then I put it away again.
