Hi,
I did not read that I have to install it before the expiry date. When I saw, the serial code is given inside, I downloaded and saved it for future use.

I tried installing now and getting a message that the setup can not run as the time expired.
Would someone help me in using this software.
appreciate your response.

#70, Bobbo: You can find the old installers for Super (as well as many, many other programs) at Filehippo.com. They have versions of Super going back to 2008:

Could not get the program to register with the provided key, even with repeated attempts. "Failed to upgrade to full version. Failed to initialize registration." Uninstalled, of course.

I find the banter here disappointing. The GAOTD project is what it is...nothing more or less. Most would expect that the quality of offerings will vary. I find a few trends in the comments on most offerings: 1.) The inevitable "the XYZ program is better, and free" comments are not really useful to me since I suspect a significant percentage of those come from posters just trying for one-upsmanship. Then there are those that bombard with technical jargon that most users don't understand or care about. Again...a feeling of many trying to show off. I wish that most of the posters would keep their comments brief, based on their experience, and geared towards the practical and the average user.

#54 and #61==tried another file. It plays ok so the glitch may be related to the resolution of the original file with old tv resolutions not doing well while High Def is handled well.

Unfortunately, I want to recode my High Def .ts files at 5000 bts and Anna only allows for up to 4000 bts. At 4000 pixilation is noticeable. At 5000, I'm sure its still there, but its not jumping out at me. this is at the "High Quality" setting to.

Program must be aimed at shriking files to play on mobile devices rather than from Desktop to big TV.

Too bad, I'll be taking a pass. I think thats the story with so many of the offerings here==it works, but not for computer to big screen conversions.

Time to pull out an old system image that has the 2010 version of Super to get back the ease of use before it was upgraded. The dance continues.

Thanks GOTD and AnnVideo for an excellent program. I enjoy all the true reviews, but hate the bickering. Looks like adults could keep their comments and problems to themselves. All it takes is a little self control.

#54--Update

Using Win 7/Ult 64 bit. Transcoding looked good on two files but now after saving them and reopening again, the video freezes while the audio plays. Same behavior using GOM or VLC. Irritating glitch. I'll play with this and post late tonight or tomorrow.

#56--transcoding is done to get a smaller file size.

Freemake Video Converter?? Oh yeahhh... absolutely a keeper.

Note that, unlike this giveaway, it even supports CUDA & DXVA technologies to ensure faster video conversion with low CPU usage!!

How about the portable version??

I've been using the previous version quite a lot, and it is indeed a good choice for the novice. One of my favorite features is it's big range of aspect ratios, or keep video at original size.

#56 Best not to convert files unless you really need to as you will lose quality with each new compression. Most players now like VLC and GOM will play most formats and support most codecs on your PC.

But if you are using a DVD/CD player or USB flash drive direct to your TV input then you will need to convert to the formats supported by the DVD player or TV. These rarely suport the FLV format downloaded from YouTube for instance. Also smart phones usually only support one format.

That is when you need to convert. Check your device for video formats supported.

#51 Convert to H.264/MPEG-4 format. Use 'Internet Video Converter HD 5.5' (free) and go to output format H264 + aac (MP4). It will take a while for each video conversion (one at a time only), but you will not notice much video or sound loss up to 50". Remember with compression there is always loss of resolution.

Use VLC player, GOM player (both free) or if you you prefer the Windows Media player (also free).

This converter (Ann Video Converter)has the same output feature and can convert multiple files at a time, but at 50" you will notice pixelization on fast-moving action scenes with a noticable loss of frames.

Ann Video Converter is best for videos to be played on small screens 21" or less such as tablets, laptops and smart phones both for speed and quality.

I've installed (no problem on Win 7 64x) but not tried to convert anything yet. Just want to note my initial observations from the install.

First, I am using Outpost Security suite, and I had to temporarily disable OSS to get Ann Video to install. OSS has mucked up other installs before, so this is nothing new.

Second, thanks to the developers for putting the registration code right in the read me file!! (Which suggests that this software might be able to be re-installed later). No jumping through hoops or waiting forever for emails to arrive, or some other torturous registration process. It's as though the developers actually WANT us to try their software and have a positive experience - what a novel concept! (Other developers please take notice!!)

Third, I was impressed with all the formats that can be converted to or from.

Thanks Ann Video and GOTD for an easy experience.

#34, reghacker, I agree with #52, Gepetto, about settings and numerous players, including WMP 12+. mike would be the person to ask about formats, but no longer posts here, you can just use MPEG-2. On a directly related note, as a CyberLink customer, I can upgrade to Media Suite 10 Ultra, a bundle of 11 of their products including the outstanding PowerDVD 12 Ultra and PowerDirector 10 Ultra, and the high-performance MediaEspresso 6.5, for $63. That's cheaper than upgrading an individual product, and cheaper than the standard version upgrade. A number of other companies offer bundles that are cheaper than the individual products, let alone the sum of the products. Of course, the people who never pay for anything and the vote manipulator will vote this comment down.

All I want to do is watch and listen to video files. Some expert advice, please. Thank you GOAD for introducing me to some wonderful software.

win 7 64 here - tried divx, vob and mp4 outputs and conversion was ultra-fast (about 20 mins for a 1 hour 42 minute movie) but the output quality was awful (even at 8000 kbps and above), so I guess my systems not liking this.

My recommendation: Handbrake (available for Mac, Windows, Linux and Fedora OS's). http://handbrake.fr/details.php

Amd quad core, dual monitor, win7/ult--installed and registered without issue.

A bit disappointed in the default settings, advanced settings are somewhat limited "but" coincidentally include the very settings I want to use.

My use is to convert .ts files to lower bit rate .avi files. I've been using Super for years but recent "upgrades" to that Freeware have made it almost useless for me: creating long "to do" lists and letting computer transcode over night.

I've tried every such software offered here over the years. Each one seems to have some drawback for me/my computer.

While Super is working oh so slowly as well, this program is rapidly transcoding a smaller file. Looks like it may be my new program of choice.

Thank you to GAOTD and Ann-Video. Super: wake up.

To #34 "reghacker". You asked, "What player will play 5.1 channel sound?". Many players can; one way is to simply play your surround sound content using the freebie VideoLan (VLC) player software.

However, you must first ensure your Speaker Setting is set 5.1 surround sound (i.e. not to Desktop or Laptop speakers, or Stereo, or Mono sound). You should verify such setting and change it (if required) in the Sounds and Audio Devices properties section found within the 'Control Panel' of Windows.

Thanks for the yet another video converter, I will keep it from the comments already made - But - it would be more usefull to me if one of you folks could advise me what output settings do I use (for any vid converter, not just this one) - to convert DVD PAL video to an efficient format that still looks good played back on a 50 inch screen? Also indicate the codec that suits best - money no object, ie is it real media version xyz or something else. I can then settle on one configuration and rip my DVD collection to hard drive once and for all. I am surely not the only one that wants to know what is best for archiving DVDs best?

@ No. 27 Quote "Excuse me for the question, whose answer may be obvious to some, does this software or any other you are aware of, is capable of embedding the subtitles in the resulting converted file?"

Many programs can embed subtitles on the result video... Myself if a need arises for such a video, I use Format Factory. All you have to do is put the subtitle file usually (.srt) in the same folder as the video to be converted, making sure that the .srt has exactly same name as the video to be converted eg. ***.avi the subtitle should be ***.srt. and then you convert your video...

FREEMAKE VIDEO CONVERTER
easily embeds subtitles. Freemake is a free video converter which also edits, it has a very user-friendly interface too. The only thing I have to use another program for (Tipard, which was a GotD) is Crop.

My usage = editing and/or converting streamed webcam recordings for uploading to YouTube, and occasionally editing other users' YouTube recordings.

I also grit my teeth when I encounter spelling mistakes in programs, but it should be remembered that many software developers now do not speak English, or speak it only a second language. That does not affect how well they can program though.

It may look like; if they make "mistakes" in the English, then they might not take much care over their programing either? However many highly-respected freeware programs do rely on friendly, helpful users to submit translations to them for other languages. They then rely on the accuracy of the submitted translation, or indeed on some online translator like Google Languages.

So spelling mistakes and errors in grammer raise a red flag for me and make me a little more cautious about trying any program, but it does not necessarily stop me from trying it.

includes real player codecs
(which may be a bit different from similar progs?)

W7 x64
v4.5

no Help

registers simply with the provided key
(use any name)

install looks clean, 43MB
Real takes 11MB of that. the program itself is 13MB, then the
remained are mainly codecs related (& the main may be ffmpeg?)
doesn't appear to "register" any codecs or anything like that
(which is good)

supports drag&drop
window is NOT resizeable

has a preview window
in order to advance the video you need to drag the pointer
rather then just click in the timeline. ditto for the volume control

edit functions including realtime preview
crop, effect (bright, contrast, saturation)
oddly, Trim has its own menu button

output settings, Quality, ONLY offers up High, Normal, & Low
though if you select Normal, you can manually enter selections

during conversion, Preview is active, with no way to disable it
- except that when you move focus away from the window, the
Preview "stops" (or at least is blanked out). audio is disabled
during conversion.

a 166MB AVI converted to a 192MB WMV quite speedily (at "high" mode)

the same at "normal" (which changed the bitrate to 1500) output a 230MB WMV
- something illogical there i would think ;-)

first attempt was NOT overwritten, instead the filename was
automatically incremented

after conversion, prompt to open output folder

output file looked good
except there was like a horizontal "banding" at the bottom 10% or so of
video, like as if i had a Subtitle, though I had not. (i did adjust the
colors)

no method from within the program to obtain a source video's bitrate
no method from within the program to open the source video's folder

using mediainfo, i see the source video is 1189kbps
(now) knowing that, i can go back & manually set the same in the output section

this time the output WMV was 186MB, so closer to the original AVI at the same
bitrate

option to disable video & or audio

CPU usage 25% during conversion (so 100% of 1 of 4 cores)

starting afresh, same source AVI, setting 1189 kbps - but no other changes,
that banding was gone.

but once i revised the colors, making no other editing changes, the banding
was back on the output file. so that part is FAIL!

output to FLV was considerably slower then to WMV
on my first FLV output attempt, i didn't realize it changed the source file
size from 352x272 to 640x480. that resulted in a 186MB FLV.
oddly, when i ran it a second time, this time keeping the original video size,
though output file was 185MB. would have expected it to be smaller?

needs improvement, but otherwise was pleasantly surprised by the program as
my first look at its UI left me cold

Running windows Vista Home

Downloaded and installed fine. Reg Key Given with no email harvesting which is a nice change. The program works well as I had no issues with it. I converted a small cartoon video which was a .OVG File and it turned it to Flash in no time at all. As I use Flash on my website (www.microgames.ca) for all the content( Old Comics, Cartoons , Books, and Games) This software will make a great back up addition to Use. Actually I was impressed that it also had a Preview window so you could see the conversion Happen.

I also Tried a file with this program That Format Factory Has Trouble with and would not convert to SWF for some reason and this program Converted it no problem. So look forward to seeing Jerky Turkey the Old Tex Avery Cartoon on my Website sometime today as I will be Uploading it.
I would give this software a thumbs up.

Thanks GOTD and Ann Video for todays download.

Thanks GAOTD and AnnVideo for the freebie today.

I confess that I have not downloaded it as I have way too many types of this software on my comp. and have tried many more.

I just want to thank ALL of the contributors to this forum, as I look in everyday and more often than not download the alternatives that people recommend rather than the giveaway.

The one I have settled on and use daily is 'Freemake Video Converter' http://www.freemake.com/.

I have found it reliable and works with almost all formats, It also adds an Icon (if you allow it) to your browser, and so you can download and convert with one click from the net.

I have used it a few years now from the first version and have found it to be spyware free and it does not show any inclination to phone home or change anything - give it a go, you have nothing to lose.

NB, I have no association with the makers of Freemake, other than a satisfied customer.

Thanks again guy's, your suggestions have improved my life and computer!

ConvertXtoDVD does but cost 49.99 us$ and you can put multiple subtitles for many different languages and select which one to show at the main menu ! sorry but off hand i don't know any freeware that does this ( but their must be some so hope fully some other member will post more help).

@26 franmuy: I do not know about this particular software. However, Format Factory has an option of including subtitles, given the original movie has subtitles.
If your original movie does not, then you have to go to a video editor to add the subtitles manualy(as you type them). Adobe Premier Pro, or Lightworks(free) are two that comes to mind on the Windows OS. Of course, Final Cut Pro on the MAC-side of the house.
I imagine there are others out there; I have used Format Factory for a number of years now, and I am quite happy with it.

All in all this GAOTD does its dirty job pretty flawlessly: it can convert all video formats to the most common ones such as AVI, IPOD, PSP, MPEG, MOV ,WMV etc.... as well as extract AUDIO from videos to MP3 files, with a nice additional option to preview the videos in real-time.

It can even convert RMVB video format, which, as far as I know, are not supported by most of (free) video editors out there.

This tool also includes several nice video enhancement filters, as well as an impressive number of built-in encoders/decoders and it's also pretty fast at converting VIDOES, thanks to its Super Encode and decodes Engine.

So overall I give it a THUMBS UP!!

.... but.....

... the following FREE ALTERNATIVES are as good as today's giveaway (maybe even better???) and of course, unlike this GAOTD, are also always UPDATABLE without paying a dime for that:

http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/
http://formatoz.com/index.html
http://www.easy-video-converter.com

My first choice is definitely the first one listed above!!

But of course use your own judgement!!!

I really like Giovanni's and Whiterabbit uk's comments. I find them helpful and informative. They are always the posts that I consider foremost when deciding if a giveaway is worth the bandwidth (my internet is VERY expensive and limited to a set amount of data each month).

In this case I will not be downloading this for the simple reason that I already have Format Factory which is free all the time and is ample for all my needs.
