#91 - Thanks for the suggestion, Suzanne. I downloaded Ant Movie after I fell for the upgrade message on All My Movies. The user interface isn't quite as polished, but I like the scripting capabilities to pull from web services of your choice and the search results returned from a lookup. I'm just glad I did not spend too much time developing my library in All My Movies! I feel bad for the users who purchased the previous version of All My Movies and ran the suggested upgrade. Though it is always defined in the readme.txt that there are no free upgrades to future versions, I guess this behaved more like an update or patch than an installation of a new version. It would also have been nice to be notified that the previous version would be removed when trying the "upgrade."

Please know that above my comments are directed to the publisher of the software and GAOTD. I think GAOTH has been doing a fine job recently in choosing a good variety of software to make available for free download (since they got away from all the video converters).

I liked this program so much, I acquired a cuecat to scan in my DVD collection. Tonight, I started the program and it prompted me to install a required update. I installed the update, but now the program is no longer a full-version. It states it is a trial version that will expire in 30-days. I think this is a very unfortunate bait-and-switch. I uninstalled the program and will avoid anything from this publisher in the future.

@93, Charles Adair...

as stated in the "readme.txt" from this giveaway:

Terms and conditions

Please note that the software you download and install during
the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:
1) No free technical support
2) No free upgrades to future versions
3) Strictly non-commercial usage

the GOTD Terms and Conditions state that there are no upgrades for every giveaway, both on the front (download/comment) page, & in the "readme.txt"...

unfortunately, some programs are set to check for updates automatically...if that function is not disabled, people often update when notified & lose the free, full version...

there have been exceptions to the rules made by the developers of some programs, "RecentX" being a good example...the developer heard reports of problems, & made a very generous offer...
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/3304

other developers have given tech support or free upgrades...

you can try writing to the developer...can't hurt...

it's not a trick...the free, full version just shouldn't have been updated...

sorry to hear of your problem...this developer has given away a couple of items on GOTD...maybe this one will get a rerun...or you can purchase it from the Bolide Software website...occasionally, developers will give a discount to GOTD community members............again, can't hurt to try...

good luck...

I just got a message about an update for this software and downloaded it. Now it indicates I only have another 22 days of free use. Is this a tricky way to get you to pay their fee??

$39.95 for this? Sounds steep. I use Ant Movie....its free. And its easy. Just type the name of the movie and press two keys, enter and its there.

http://www.antp.be/software/moviecatalog/

And you can adjust it to however you want to display it. Even gives you borrower titles if somebody borrows your movies. :)

Just a suggestion but the software being offered are pretty much the same it gets redundant and am sure you guys have noticed that activity has lessened, you guys might want to spread the range of software to stuff like pdf editting software/ adobe etc...as opposed to the constant recycled mash of media converters/ file and picture managers and dvd copiers. This is constructive critiscm only.

Works pretty good for me. I like that it can populate automatically if the information is available. But the code or rather the interface reminds me of the MS SDK that does this. But it is much better than the raw SDK they supplied. I like that it uses it's own file for a database instead of the need for SQL. I'll give it a thumbs up for usefulness and ease of use.

This is way cool! Works well on Vista ultimate.

I built something like this in an Access database many years ago (before IMDB). It's a real pain typing in all of the actor information, plot synopsis, etc. Not to mention scanning in all of the cover art. This one's a winner and a keeper!

#2 - Good idea, I liked the idea of being able to have one program for music, movies and books. But I just tried it and it crashes like crazy when you're trying to add an item via the search. That product will need some maturity. All My Movies works similarly and doesn't crash.
