Hey, I like the speed! Having recently installed a GTX460 I'm sort of on the hunt for Cuda encoding, in spite of the fact many encoder authors say the benefits aren't worth the work. Aiseesoft seem to have nailed something because the performance completely blows away handbrake at similar qualities, without pushing my old AM2 4-core over 30% utilization.

Once I figure out how to tame the encoding parameter maze a little better this thing goes on my buy list.

I haven't even tried the Disc reading yet. Habit has me stuck on *Fab but promise I'll give this program's ripping a try asap.

Thanks Aiseesoft, and thanks GAOTD!

@48 U need a Blu-ray player to rip them but to burn them u need either a Blu-ray burner or a program to convert them to DVD format.

Idk if this prog does that, just DLed haven't test it.

If u cant find a prog to convert to DVD, convert to hd format .avi/mp4 or sum n then convert that to DVD.(expect that to take a looong time)

Ripping made simple go to DVDFab.com.
Alice DVD n Avatar easy as pie, n they have a free ripper.
I rip everything with it n burn back-ups to watch n keep originals safe, great for children who scratch them every time.
Does Blue-rays too.

No I don't work for them n no I don't get paid to advertise, just trying to help.

It can shrink while it rips n the beta versions n paid/trial version can do the whole copy procedure.

I just use the ripper tho cause I prefer more control n use Nero Recode to burn them.

This software is just as good as the previous version which was 3.1.42. This version is 3.1.52.

To correctly upgrade without the errors noted above: uninstall with REVO uninstaller. Then install this version and the "Help"/"About" will show the correct new version number: 3.1.52.

The opening menu clearly shows that you can rip (by choice) a blu-ray disk or a "dvd." Therefore, for all those confused comments above, you can rip either, depending upon what dvd player you are using. Simple and clear. Either format, either player . . . it does it all.

Thanks GAOTD and Aiseesoft Studio for the upgrade from the last great offering!

I downloaded it to find that it can also covert HD videos and edit videos. It's so convenient. I had a video from my camera, but the player cannot support and I couldn't edit with WMM. That made me disappointed. Thank GOTAD for sharing this one. It helped me a lot. I converted it and shared the video on YouTube.

To avoid having the previous version come up after closing and re opening the program, you need to perform an uninstall with revo. It did not work with revo safe mode, but worked with the advanced mode. I hope it did not harm other files, I cant be sure, so use at your own risk, or try the moderate mode first.
Thanks to GOTD and Aiseesoft for this great software, and thanks to all for the help you provide through your comments

I'm experiencing a some serious problem. I also have v3.1.52, but I can't open any file. When I target a Blu-ray disc, a list of folders appears. If there are sub folders within a root level folder, you can open the folder, but never open a sub folder to see what files are inside.
If I target the STREAM folder to open, either via the Load BD Playlist or Load BD File, the software attempts to process the files inside, but ALWAYS stops with a fails to load error message complaining that the BD disc must be new, and refers me to the tech support page. The discs I've tried are Enchanted, and Alaska, Spirit of the Wild, not exactly new titles.

I am Thrilled! Thank you, Aiseesoft & GAOTD!

For almost three years, I've tried to find something that would convert dvr-ms to Anything Else. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. ~but you did it! {I will refrain from posting the lyrics from My Fair Lady;)

Installed perfectly, registered easily, and the interface is so easy, a...
well, I could do it. I've been CompUsing for 25 years, but my last real experience with video involved a hand-cranked Movieola and hundreds of strips of film hanging from pins. The audio was on separate reels.

Truly, thank you again.

Well, it seemed great when processing a DVD I made. It was a DVD made using my Hava recording (mpeg2), which was then made into DVD format using GUI DVD, and then burned to DVD which plays on all my PCs and on my DVD player with sound. Unfortunately, no sound was produced when making the default MPEG4 iPad conversion. Looking at the Properties settings, it seems the program cannot discern the audio format as it indicates N/A throughout the audio list. The soundless video it did make on my new PC set a maximum PC usage of 70 percent was done in just under 15 minutes for a 1:32 movie. The video looked good. It would be real nice with audio though.

Downloaded & registered fine but it seems to not clear the older version 3.1.42 and after it is closed the only version found is 3.1.42 not the new 3.1.52. Tried to delete all & reinstall but it still does the same thing. Don't know if it would have done this had I uninstalled first but since usually the programs do that themselves I didn't & now it will not clear no matter what I have tried so if you have the older version given away in August remove it before you install this version

Thanks, Kat

Sampled three Blu-ray titles; ALL THREE say ‘Failed to load Blu-ray...” – I don’t know why I waste my time with this software every time its listed on giveawayofthe day.com – It hasn’t worked on a single disk. Aren’t you people embarrassed? You obviously don’t test your software worth a damn. Needles to say, I’d be VERY upset if I actually paid money for this!

If you’re interested: Win7 64-bit... 4GB...LG GGC-H20L drive... (Nothing else running)

The family computer already has Aiseesoft Total Video Converter.
Doesn't this program do it all?
Or do we need to actually download the bluray ripper also?
Someone please post an answer.

#22: "...do I need a Blu-Ray burner to use this software?"

#28: "Yes, you must have a blue ray player to read/rip/burn blue ray discs. Standard DVD drives do not support blue ray technology."

Wellll.... Yes & no. ;-)

You need a Blu-Ray drive to read & optionally write BD blanks, but the format works just fine on DVDs, both single & dual layer. It's actually in the Blu-Ray spec, though many (most?) players will display something like AVCHD after you insert the disc. AFAIK any PC/laptop DVD drive can read them [they're often called BD5 & BD9], but you do need a software Blu-Ray player & Windows needs to work with UDF 2.5 for viewing -- installing a player like PowerDVD with the Blu-Ray option usually takes care of older Windows versions like XP so it can read that format.

One advantage is you can defer the expense of a BD writable drive for now, just getting a reader [last I looked they were about 1/2 the price]. Another advantage, cheaper blank discs, is going away -- you can find BD blanks on sale for roughly the same price as Dual Layer DVDs. Third, you can then play Blu-Ray content on any PC/laptop, regardless whether it has a Blu-Ray drive or not -- that might save you quite a bit of cash.

How well BD5/9 discs work depends on how good the content was to begin with -- most Blu-Ray discs I've watched look like up-sampled DVDs, & you can very easily maintain that level of quality at the DVD max bit rate. For max quality possible OTOH you're usually looking at very slow encodes, using one of the higher quality x264 settings, but the results are *often* considered equivalent to the original [it's easier to keep the quality of a drama shot in urban settings than it is to highly compress something like Transformers].

* * *

#36: "...–Why the big file size difference, 39.9mb vs present 9.65mb? –If I install the new version do I need to remove the previous first?"

1) My guess would be better compression in the setup file -- the new program folder takes up ~2 MB more. 2) If you rename the folder of the older version like I did, the new version will install & run right along side of it.

Nice Software, ripped my X-Men 2 Blu-Ray pretty quick thanks to using CUDA on my GTX260. (nice feature)

Could add some more advanced image tweaks such as for colour with a preview of the output with colour adjustments.

add more audio track support and improve quality, sound was not so nice on a standard def rip on the max setting, and even when set to an HD format I could not get output audio to 6 channels (was forced to use normal stereo) this can be muxed in later correctly but it would be nice to have it within the software, (I've not tried another blu-ray yet so I don't know if this is a problem for anyone else)

Paying homage to "Starship Troopers", Aiseesoft BluRay Ripper is a good ripper/converter -- until it dies or you find something better -- and *Unless you're running XP*. Install today's GOTD in XP & you'll get the "TOSHIBA HD DVD File System Driver for Windows XP", not necessarily something you'd need or want. It may or may not work, may or may not cause problems for you, & if you can already play Blu-Ray discs [like most folks with Blu-Ray drives] you don't need it. If you already have it installed, & want to uninstall it check out the 2nd post in this thread at slysoft: http://goo.gl/2nfa7 . Otherwise Aiseesoft BluRay Ripper does a generally competent but also generally average job. It wouldn't work with a new Blu-Ray disc, so you *might* need something else to handle DRM, depending on what disc's you use it with. Using a source clip in Blu-Ray VC1 format [1080p], for 1080p HD, H.264/AVC it worked, maxing all 4 cores, but at ~3X (or more) real-time -- that's not necessarily a problem, & *may* reflect higher quality settings for the x264 encoder ffmpeg uses. On the down side, wide screen pans & such showed a bit of stuttering. DivX HD only used 1 core but still [barely] beat real-time, but there was a bit of noise like you were watching it through a *very slightly* frosted pane of glass. Mpg2 HD while less efficient should be fastest & still look very good -- it too primarily used 1 core taking very roughly 1.25x real-time encoding, & the picture was soft rather than sharply focused. A modified H.264 iPhone profile [854x480 for a Droid] OTOH looked nice & converted in real-time -- not the fastest I've seen or have, but going from 1080p that's not that bad. All tests had max CPU set to 100% in the app's preferences.

Aiseesoft BluRay Ripper will import video files, DVD discs, DVD folders [on your hard drive], & DVD .IFO files [contain the instructions for players]. For Blu-Ray you can load a playlist or a file -- browse to a disc drive with a Blu-Ray disc in it, or a folder with Blu-Ray disc files & it'll find what it needs. It has a few editing functions you get to by clicking the Edit button or going through the Clip [not Edit] menu -- go figure. You get the Effect, Trim, Crop, & Watermark tabs in the Video Edit window that are almost standard for many of these converters, but be aware trimming the beginning of that HD test video didn't work -- or didn't appear to work, since I didn't wait more than 5 minutes for it to show the 1st preview frame in the encoding/converting progress window. Working with Blu-Ray content [because Blu-Ray is part of the name] I didn't see any problems with aspect ratio set to "Keep Original" on the Crop tab, but I didn't test to see how it will behave with anamorphic 1440 X 1080 HD or DVD wide-screen sizes [both use narrower video frames that the player expands to normal width] -- you most always should run a quick test clip anyway the 1st time you try any format in any converter/encoder.

AN *Almost* portable app, Aiseesoft BluRay Ripper creates 3 folders -- 1 in My Documents that's the default output folder, 1 folder in All Users [also shows in ProgramData] in 7 -- All Users\ Application Data in XP, & the program folder itself, with 63 files, 8 folders taking up ~45 MB. Ignoring the driver in XP, the app itself adds an uninstall key to the registry -- if you wanted to run it as a portable app you could use the portableapps.com format, or just put up with entering the key & having the app add those 2 folders whenever it was 1st run on a PC/laptop. Most of these ffmpeg-based conversion apps can also be compressed using UPX or similar packing, which usually brings the overall size down by 1/3 to 1/2.

When you use one of these video converters &/or rippers your mileage can vary, sometimes a Lot... The output format you need may be one of Aiseesoft BluRay Ripper's strengths, or not. Likewise you may or may not get a decent boost in speed compared to similar apps using NVIDIA's Cuda acceleration with your graphics hardware -- on this rig where I tested, it opens but doesn't appear to use files for ATI acceleration, taking ~25% CPU just to preview, vs. 2% in Windows Media Player. [IMHO that's not Aiseesoft's fault -- that's just what's coded into ffmpeg at the moment]. As always if you're patient there will be other converters &/or rippers on GOTD, & there's a selection at videohelp.com -- go to their Tools page.

I have the previous GOTD version I installed on 8/20/2010. I tried to install this new GOTD version but....

1 - I first uninstall the old one.
2 - Next I install the new one.
3 - I allow the end of install launch of program
4 - Program comes up as version 3.1.52
5 - I close the program
6 - Run the program again it comes up as 3.1.42.

I did this several times. Even made sure the icons were gone from the desktop and start menu. I checked that I don't have it installed twice (one for old and one for new). Very confused.

What am I missing? this is called “Blu-ray ripper”, so you think it would
rip a Blu-ray disc. But when you start the program and click on the “Load
Blu-ray” icon, there is no option to load a disc (as you have under the DVD
icon). The only options are to “load Blu-ray play list” or “load Blu-ray file”.

When you click on the "Load Blue-Ray icon click next on Load Blue-Ray file.
Navigate to your dvd/cd rom device and choose the DVD. Worked for me.
This software, as with the older version "Aieesoft DVD Ripper', works like a
charm for me. I have never come across another ripper which claims to by pass
copy rights which actually worked as flawless as these products. Great offer in
my opinion.

@Cromag:

It's possible that his question (and mine as well) wasn't whether one needed a blu-ray drive to rip blu-ray discs (that's fairly obvious). I think the question was more along the lines of whether the program supports DVD ripping and format conversions of media besides blu-ray discs, thus providing value to people like myself who still do not have a blu-ray drive.

The only options are to "load Blu-ray play list" or "load Blu-ray file".

If you look at their website at ther guide for ripping Blu-ray discs, it says that the requirement are only
1. Blu-Ray DVD Driver
2. Blu Ray Ripper

Yet the next line states "You need to install any DvD, then run this Blu-ray Ripper". I assume they refer to AnyDVD HD, a commercial program made by SlySoft that sells for 80 euros!

If this is indeed the case, I would say that AnyDVD is the actual Blu-ray ripper, and that the "Aiseesoft Blu-ray Ripper" is just a tool to convert the already ripped video file to other formats.

Please tell me I am wrong, because if I am not, this is really a misleading name for a utility that can't rip Blu-ray discs.

@kEN, #18:

"This may be a decent product it is rather evident it is something that is short lived. I no longer use CDs for anything. Memory sitcks and monster portable hard drives are taking over. There is no need for CDs now."

Well, first off, the purpose of this software is to get a movie off of a (legally owned) DVD or BluRay disc so you can store it on your storage media and view it on your preferred player. When movie companies stop distributing movies on disc, then you can say that this software is no longer needed. (Of course if you only view movies via cable or satellite or Internet downloads, you don't need discs at all.)

Secondly, this software isn't for CDs, it is for DVDs. Yes, they are both disc formats, but they're not the same thing. :P

#9: "... One final curiosity: Is this software deemed capable of capturing the data stream from a “simple” Blu-Ray player? That would be a very nice capability indeed."

Did this one separately because it's more involved... The short answer is you're unlikely to ever capture that digital stream, but because of that you have apps like Aiseesoft Blu Ray Ripper so you wouldn't want to. In case it helps or is of interest...

DVD players usually output analog video through RCA, S-video, & component jacks. Audio is usually output through RCA jacks & SPDIF [coax &/or optical]. You should be able to record any of those, though I don't know if the old VHS tape type protections are still sometimes used or not -- in those days you'd have to run the signal through an extra box to boost &/or repair the signal. Note that recording the digital audio stream as-is [e.g. the original 1s & 0s making up an AC3 file stream], while possible is iffy from a hardware standpoint and, if you're recording analog video, timing [sync] will most likely be off.

HD OTOH means component or HDMI outputs. There is AFAIK one box available from Hauppauge that will record component & connects to your PC/laptop via USB. HDMI includes built-in DRM, & while there is expensive hardware that will capture via HDMI, it will refuse any HD with an internal flag set to no copying -- that flag's usually present.

To access the actual digital data we have of course DVD & Blu-Ray PC/laptop drives. For DVD there can be protections built into the drivers for your hardware to limit &/or prevent recording, but it's generally a moot point because apps like Aiseesoft Blu Ray Ripper [or AnyDVD, DVDFab etc.] let you access the original, which is higher quality than recording. The same holds true with Blu-Ray, except they've gone to great lengths to try & make sure you can't record anything in Windows versions newer than XP. To meet requirements for HDMI's DRM [HDCP] for example, graphics cards include on-board audio chips now-a-days -- at least in theory it's an unbreakable chain from your Blu-Ray drive to the graphics card so you can't tap into & potentially record anything. As you might imagine all that concern with DRM instead of function can lead to problems, & it does... there's no shortage of people wishing/declaring that Blu-Ray is going to die out sooner rather than later, including allegedly Steve Jobs.

Does this require a Blu-ray drive in my computer, or will it work with a regular DVD read/write drive?

I have downloaded Aiseesoft Blu Ray Ripper from GOTD last time. But I redownloaded the software to find out there are some improvements. I used it to rip the same BD disc. The output video and audio sync and the subtitle was supported. the conversion time was relatively reduced. My problem was solved for free. Thank GOTAD.

May be a stupid question for you seasoned professionals but do I need a Blu-Ray burner to use this software?

#9: "... I have thus far found that DVDs which my Windows system was previously ‘unwilling’ to recognize, are also not recognized when running this ripper..."

Not sure exactly what you mean, but maybe this will help...
If you're talking about playing the DVD, you should have no problems with a player like PowerDVD -- if you do you *may* be having problems with your DVD drive. If OTOH you mean you can't just copy the contents, that's DRM doing what it's designed to do.

"... rippers which seem to want me to know everything imaginable about the information on the disc of interest... I’m just not that much of an expert..."

Video DVD & Blu-Ray discs are designed to be read by players, *& only players*. And as a method of DRM they're often laid out, organized on disc in the most confusing ways possible, even to the point of being outside of all sorts of specs. If that weren't enough, Video DVDs can also use features in the DVD spec in ways that weren't originally thought of, e.g. menus can present content rather than menus, movies can be split up into many pieces, special feature videos can be joined into a longer movie or video file & so on. All together that means that software can either pick the longest videos & assume they're movies, leaving out everything else (like special features you may want), or like Aiseesoft Blu Ray Ripper show you everything -- that way you can preview the separate titles & grab just what you're after. Nero Recode is an example of the *other* sort of app, limiting both what you see & what you get from *unprotected* discs/content [that's where apps like AnyDVD & DVDFab Passkey come in].

This may bew a decent product it is rather evident it is something that is short lived. I no longer use CDs for anything. Memory sitcks and monster portable hard drives are taking over. There is no need for CDs now.

I did a quick try and it did what I need. Supper fast conversion speed and excellent output quality. Most importantly, it supports a lot of conversion formats.

Installed, ran.... but seems to be processing at play speed.

I turned off the preview, but the counter seems to decrement 1 second in a real second.

T've just tried to convert a small video to "DVD Video - PAL (*.vob)", but it is not possible to obtain a standard PAL VOB: the output video bitrate is always 9000 KBps, regardless of the bitrate specified via the dropdown menu, and the default audio settings is totally illegal: MP3 at 44100 Hz. The DVD-Video standard imposes that the video bitrate must be less or equal to 8000 KBps, and the audio must be either AC3 or WAV, sampled at 48000 Hz. (MP3 is accepted, but only as a secondary audio stream, and at 48000 Hz too. An AC3 or WAV audio stream MUST be present.) I haven't checked if specifying another encoding for the audio works, but anyway, the video is always wrong.

Appalling!
