Very nice app. Works great to convert DVDs into avi files on Windows XP-Pro. I have two questions for anyone out there who might help me out: (1) What advantages do all the other apps offered by Aiseesoft have over Total Media Converter Platinum? (I've looked at the various nicely discounted offerings, but I don't see what they can do that this app can't; undoubtedly I'm missing something...) (2) Can anyone recommend some 3D glasses to be used with an old analog TV, a newer TV that is not HD, LED, or plasma? In advance, thanks! And thanks to Aieesoft!

Seems like there's lots of conversion options, which is a plus. I converted a 45 minute .mts file to .avi, which took 3 hours. Considering I hadn't found any software to date that would convert that format (.mts; not that I hadn't really looked all that hard though), this program did the job to my satisfaction. I didn't notice any loss in quality. I'll tinker around with it a bit more, time permitting. Thanks Aiseesoft & GOTD.

Installed and reg'd on XPSP3 OK. One function I found did not work was to convert 2 channel AAC files to lower bitrate mono files. The files would not play in VLC. Backed off to 6.2.26 and had same result. 6.3.8 also crashed 2/3 of the time. Other video conversions in 6.2.26 seemed to work OK.

#24 @Lori Miller:If you were referring to me in your comment, please be advised that I am in no way associated with Aiseesoft or the operators of this site in any way - financially or otherwise. I'm simply a frequent visitor who occasionally gives in to the urge to post comments based solely on my OWN opinion and observations. It seems to me that you have some sort of axe to grind with someone, but I strongly advise you to be careful about making any accusations that you can't substantiate.

I openly admit that I'm an online marketer - I've never made any attempt to conceal that fact. I consider myself to be a professional at what I do, and as such I make every effort to ensure that I'm constantly in compliance with all rules and regulations that govern my industry. If I deliver a testimonial in praise of a product or service that I'm financially interested in, I'm required to disclose that relationship at the same time and place my testimonial is given. I'll be the first to agree, however, that a very large percentage of other "marketers" are often in violation of that rule, and when you find them, you should call them on it! They give MY chosen profession a bad reputation, and I'll be the first to thank you for doing so.

For all I know, you may be right about "shills" posting here - "trolls" are just about everywhere that comments are allowed. However, have you considered that it just might be possible that the reason that Aiseesoft receives such a high ratio of up/down votes is because they actually produce decent products, and that they also treat their customers - and potential customers - with courtesy and respect?

And if you have a problem with the the way this site is operated, nobody's holding a gun to your head to visit it - are they? If anything, reasonable people might come to the conclusion that if anything, you might appear to have more of a hidden agenda than Aiseesoft or GAOTD! However, unlike you, I'll make no attempt to even guess what your actual motive might be for posting what you did.

And to all of you video "purists" who are complaining about the fact that this software doesn't accomplish some semi-advanced function or another, please keep in mind the intended price point, and more importantly, the target market - which is consumers who have multiple video devices with varying resolutions. They couldn't care less about splitting frames - they just want to be able to play the doggone videos on their smart phones!

I noticed while playing around with this software that the number of options for output formats is simply mind-boggling, with formats identified by individual brand and model. Thus, regardless of the technical specs, the "average" user can quickly choose the format that suits their particular device - without having to learn pixel sizes and ratios.

Great converter here. It has handled everything I have thrown at it so far. It does very well going into stereo 3D. The only thing that I can see it is missing for my taste is a blu ray ripper. Note for the voters for the youtube downloads, dvdvideosoft has a very nice suite for you to download videos from youtube. It also has a few other great features. It compliments this giveaway very well.

Like others I already have a high opinion of this software. I was honestly going to pass this up, cause the one from last time already kicks butt.

However,

Today I did the stupid, went out and bought a cheap CRAIG mp4 player. Then tried to add my mp4's.. whoops.

The free converter (that came with the CRAIG) converts quite a few formats. But the main one I planned to use from my youtube downloads... e.g. .mp4 not so much. In fact it crashed on me as I got so pissed off I knocked my beer off the desk smashing the glass everywhere. Anyway..

I tried nearly every mp4 to amv converter out there and ONLY aiseesoft total media converter successfully rendered it. I didn't even think to try what was already installed.

The irony? A TRIAL version of standalone Aiseesoft AMV Converter would only convert 5 minutes. But it was also the ONLY software I could get to render anything at all above 0 bytes!

$45 is a reasonable -imo
I don't buy stuff often, this is one that I will buy, clearly that's a thumbs up. For me it works with sony vegas SD broadcast quality tv show, and it also works with my brand new junk Craig mp4 player.

Tested on: XP SP3 & Win 7 64 bit
Installed side by side for fear of killing the old version.

Anyway these guys have a future $45 from me.

Good program, fast converts, but I can't get AMD app acceleration to work even though i have the latest drivers and AMD app SDK installed. So if you want a great fast video converter its a good one, but don't bet the farm on GPU support, at least from the AMD side of the aisle.

Aiseesoft Total Video Converter is excellent. Easy, comprehensive, reliable, robust, etc. Aside from 3D, I don't see any differences, so in the interest of avoiding system bloat, I am not loading this Platinum version. However, if I didn't have the Total Video Converter, I would snatch this up faster than a gnat can bat an eyelash. Also, Note: because Aiseesoft is so generous with frequent giveaways on GAOTD, there shouldn't be concern about lack of updates or replacements following crashes...

PS - Thanks to Gio, King of the Freebies, for continuing contributions

Thanks for another great giveaway, and thanks to Aiseesoft.

It's basic, but gives good results with a good source. The 3D option seems to give good results too - comparable to scripted AVISynth conversions.

Probably of little interest if you already have AiseeSoft from the previous giveaway, but the 3D is fun to tinker with.

W7 x64
v6.3.8

67MB install into directory of your choice,
looks clean

registers simply with the provided code (& any name)

CHM Help file

drag&drop NOT supported

video bitrate not provided, must use Properties, &
for some clips, still not known

(optional) preview during conversion

166MB avi source, 18:34, coverted to 179MB mp4 (Youtube)
at equivalent bitrates & resolution. similar conversion
to wmv was also 179MB, but the quality was not as good.
(one of the other recent giveaways did a much better job
outputting to wmv)

same video doubling the resolution from 352*272 to
704*544 took a LONG time, which i though odd?

resolution can be manually input, though bitrate
cannot

you are prompted in an overwrite situation, though
there is no automatic (incremental) rename? actually
there is, just not obvious. when you say NO to the
overwrite, it then proceeds with the conversion,
automatically incrementing. odd & should be clearer

seemingly i should have been using 4 cores during
conversion, but best i could tell, only two were used?

effects display in realtime, side by side

main window is resizeable, that could help, somewhat.
effects window is not. column widths are fixed, cannot
drag, though they do resize if you resize the window

did not test nvidia/amd nor 3D or Merge

was not able to load the one .ifo that i had, though
you could load its associated .vobs & convert them

coverted 1GB, 17min, .vob to 2000kbps mp4 in
a decent time & output looked good. oddly that
conversion did use 4 cores? video timeline was kind
of funky, differing in different video players

works

does an OK job, on par with most of these other
giveaways, though could & should be better IMO

@59, try a player that has the ability to "reindex"
(rebuild file index). MPlayer or maybe Media Player
Classic might be able to cut it. (perhaps even VLC
though i'm not really familiar with the players
you have mentioned)

Installed quickly and flawlessly on 64-bit Windows 7. Registered with name and key inside the readme.txt file (no spam e-mails sent whatsoever).

The big addition to this version (6.3.8) over the previous giveaway (v6.2.26) is the ability to convert to high-definition 3D format, not just the quite inferior anaglyph (red/blue) format. So I tried a conversion to half SBS (side-by-side) format and it played perfectly on my 3D LG television set. The 3d rendition had little depth at the default depth setting (5) so I cranked it up to 25 (maximum setting is 50) and while the depth got a little better it made me go cross-eyed and feel a bit giddy! The 2D-to-3D conversion built in to the TV worked a bit better. Neither was anything as good as a proper 3D movie, of course, but nice to have all the same.

As I pointed out with the previous giveaway for v6.2.26, two things that stands out (and that most of the competitive products do not have) are firstly CPU affinity selection and secondly the ability to offload conversion work to the GPU [graphics processor], both settings are under Tools > Preferences. Without these, a log-running conversion of a big video file can severely impact the responsiveness of your PC and make life quite unpleasant if you're doing other work on the PC while the conversion is running.

All in all, I'm very happy with the new version and will uninstall the old one.

Basically, nice software. BUT two major things are annoying:
There should be auto-settings for video/audio when converting just file formats - screen size and audio resolution should be taken from the source material. And not have me redefine it every time.
And the 2nd thing is: make the edit field of the output folder editable. I don't like to navigate in a mini window.

Excellent software.

I had 4 old FLV clips that I wanted to join (pieces of a movie). I tried a number of software packages. Most lost all of the audio beyond the first clip. One took HOURS to run.

The Merge feature in this software put 'em all together, with sound, in about 4 minutes.

Best video merger I've seen.

@ 59. Jerry

Hi Jerry

Now, there are two things that happening here.
Either your video file is corrupted.
Or, the video CoDec is not the right one (outdated, perhaps and an update might fix it).

If that happens, no video converter can help you there.

Another thing you can try is to import the video in a high-end editor like Avid or Sony Vegas and see if one of those programs can rebuild a stable cache, then export into your file format of choice.
Also to note:
If you can extract with either program (Vegas, Avid etc) in a two step process the image sequence and with the other at least the audio, you then can flick them together again into one piece.

I hope this will at least guide you in the right direction, but no guarantee it will actually work.

I wish you good luck
:)

Running Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.
Downloaded, installed and registered program without any problems.
Program is like many other video converting programs without any clear advantages over one another...
User has a narrow range of settings for the conversion, although has a wider range of output video formats. Conversion speed will not get you a speeding ticket (converted a 91 mins. video in 50 mins. at 900 Kbs).
Suggesting improved program utilization of multiprocessors power...
Overall, not a bad program to have as it may come in handy sometimes when one is trying to convert a video to a non specific end results
At least from my personal point of view...

Thanks for the give away. I am creating a backdrop for a presentation and needed to overlay a .png file that has text onto a .avi video. Lightworks can do it but keeps aborting with timeout when I then export the .avi file. I then used Wax 2.0 which can do it but Wax does not let you move the position or resize the .png info when overlaying. This give away has a watermark function that allowed me to overlay my .png file, move it around to where I wanted and resize the info. So it is a keeper for me.

Windows Moviemaker had an ability to do that in the XP version but they removed it in the Win7 version.

So if your a person who downloads, burns, copies or does anything with dvd's cd's and movies then download this. If you are a novice with video conversion, editing , transcoding, etc., you will love this program.

It has dozens of conversion templates / profiles for you to choose from which will make your life a lot easier than other options out there.

Conversion is really fast and the results are quite acceptable.

Now, if you have some experience and have used programs like Format factory and MeGUI before, you will find this program very frustrating.

If you crop your movie to say 720X360 you´ll still be forced to choose from a preset resolution like 720X480.

If you choose to encode just a couple of minutes of a video file, watch the main screen carefully because this program will create a new subclip of the main video file and will want to convert them both in batch mode.

If you chose custom settings before you make a clip of the main video, when the new clip is created your custom settings will reset to default values and you will have to do it all again.

Maximum bit rate for MP4 conversion is 2500 KBps.

I didn´t find an option for a 2 pass conversion.

Remapping of 5.1 audio channels is terrible. The center channel of an AC3 audio stream got remapped to the right channel when converting to AAC audio.

Conclusion:

NOVICE USER: This program is a must have.

EXPERIENCED USER: Don´t waste your time.

OK, did not get answer for my question so I will answer it myself, the application is installed and run smoothly on Win7 64bit.
Hope the following will help others:
I have also installed and made comparison with Free Video Converter recommended by Giovanni (thank you - always). My conclusions are
Speed - Aiseesoft Converter was twice to three times faster in conversion
Output Size - Aiseesoftthe output file (same format and codecs) size was 30% bigger
Quality – the output clip (again same format and codecs) of Free Video Converter was much much batter.
Ease of use – this one goes again to the Free Video Converter, very easy to use.
Features – Free Converter editing capabilities are pretty minimal: cutting, merging and flipping, while Aiseesoft Converter has the ability also to trim and add watermark and convert to 3D.

In this comparison I have merged and converted 3 clips with (intentionally) unusual size of 1184x840, I have used both on Win7 64bit.
I will keep both

I think the one of the basic feature for video converter is to keep the source resolution.
I don't see such option with this.
As for hardware acceleration like nVidia CUDA, it may be faster but also the quality of hardware acceleration is usually not as good.
That's why a lot of people like to use handbrake since it give you total control and the size and the quality of the resulting video with all kind of settings you can choice.

Beside Handbrake, most of the converters like Aiseesoft Total Media Converter is more for beginner who just want to convert to different formats but doesn't care as much about the final video size or quality.

I have a problem that I’m sure everyone else has had a few times in the past with no idea on how to fix it.

I have a movie, a .flv but the format is unimportant since it can happen with any format, that will run when played as long as you don’t try to move the movie in either FF or FR for it will stop & NOT restart & you will have to start again from the beginning.

I tried to convert this movie to other formats like usually .avi, hoping that it may fix it but no success & the conversion will stop at some point & also NOT restart or continue.

If the movie is very long, not having the ability to jump forward or backback is a real pain to say the least! In this case the movie is over 8 hours long!

I have tried all different players like media Player, Real Player, Windows Media Player, Eolsoft Media Player, Winamp, Irfanview Player, Divx Plus Player, & VLC Media Player & the problem exists on all players.

I just tried this same movie with this converter here today & again the converter stops at the questionable area & will not continue. I also tried to edit the movie to try to cut out the bad area & that does not work either.

Does anyone have any ideas on how this can be fixed? Also the original movie is like this so don’t suggest downloading again.

Many Thanks in advance!

As i asked about difference between Total Media Converter Standard given away earlier and
this TMC Platinum version..thanks to Joe for reply.

I checked out this one as i was intrested in 3D conversion feature.

I found that both versions are nearly identical in GUI but in Platinum version-
* Biggest difference is 3D coversion is provided with many 3D profiles
and made available in main GUI window.
* Clip source file is provided and available in Main GUI.
* Switch target file in Edit window feature is pretty good.

well, this extra features costs $45 instead of $39 for standard.

Check out full comparision if you want at http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-media-converter/total-media-converter-comparison.html

TMC's Coversion Speed is best in many conversion suites i ever used..

Thumbs up from me..

Enjoy..

This is one of the best software packages that GoTD gives away regularly. There are a few rough edges, and the default video output quality is not always the best, but it's a very handy tool in some cases. Just last night I used the previous version 6.2.26 to quickly convert a music video that was one chapter of a DVD title to mp3. It took about 30 seconds total. Most other converters can't do the simple step of selecting just one chapter to convert. It looks like the only new feature in this version is the 3D output, so I probably won't bother updating, but very worthwhile for someone who doesn't have a previous version.

Comparison between previous GOTD (Total Media Converter 6.2.26) and Total Media converter Platinum offered today can be seen at http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-media-converter/total-media-converter-comparison.html.There are only 5 differences.TMC Platinum in addition to all the features present in Total Media Converter can 1) Convert DVD/video to 3D video 2) Adjust 3D settings during video editing.4)Clip source file in video editing 4) Adjust 3D settings in Output file and 5) Switch target file in Edit window.
I think these additional features are of not of much use for the majority of friends who have installed previous GOTD Total Media Converter 6.2.26.Depending upon your needs you can update to today’s GOTD.
Overall Aiseesoft Total Media Converter is a Top Notch converter and one of the best GOTD offered till now. You load a file, select the output format and click Convert; TMC will do its job without any error and glitch. After using this product for many years and converting innumerable number of files I highly recommend this product to every computer user. Go and grab it.

Alas, I find this program does not see DD5.1 audio. Trying to convert a DVD to mkv, there is no option for selecting the surround tracks. If I can't figure it out, this program is going to be deleted.

I response to David (12), this is Total Media Converter, not Total Video Converter. (I'm not sure what the difference is between the two.) The correct comparison between this Total Media Converter Platinum and the 'Standard' version from 14-Jan-2012 is here:

http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-media-converter/total-media-converter-comparison.html

But what is the difference between the Total Media Converter and Total Video Converter? Just more formats supported?

If I was not using WinX, I would use this. But I am, and very happy, so passing. Thanks - this is a good software company and I have several of their products - if you need a converter...why wait?

Looks like a great program. Being a Mac user, I see that there is a Mac version of this software. Aiedsoft, is the Mac version available as well?

Cannot convert GOTOMEETING generated WMV files. Only audio gets converted, blank video.

#24. Lori Miller, i think you have rightly pointed out this matter. I am also noticing that those comments which could be useful to visitors are thumbs down and negatively rated.

Back with another, even better, version!
Playing with the color adjustmeants and deinterlacing. Speedy, with beautiful results just like the last one. Looks like same features as before, except there is 3D settings. I actually have both versions side by side.

I'd love to see even more video fixing tools in the converter - like jitter correction.

Gotta love Aiseesoft - they are just a big bundle of awesome.
