Now when I came to be needing this software, I stumbled upon a huge and unexpected problem: there is no "Save project" option!!! So whioe I'm making a DVD (which might include 20-30 clips with multiple audio tracks and subtitle settings), I cannot close the program, and need to pray that the program doesn't go down on its own.

moreover, I cannot keep the project until it's seen by someone else, who will return some comments.

Guys, this is the most bizzarre shortcoming I've ever seen!

It´s been a while now since Aiseesoft´s DVD Creator was a GAOTD, so i guess it´s due time to give some personal user notes on it after using it a bunch of times: Quite easy to use for making a basic DVD, good menu building tool if not for the lack of possibility to make sub-menues by subject when compiling lots of short videoclips. Slow rendering even on default settings on an ordinary late-model 64-bit PC running Windows 7(even though i tuned the settings of my PC´s video card, making the process faster)is a bit frustrating. Maybe a good idea would be to change the rendition method to something like what some image manipulation programs use, processing small chunks one at the time and by that not building large temporary files that totally occupies the RAM, making it choke the processor like the brake sled on a Tractor Pull, if you catch the motorsports reference ;-). On the positive side is the output that is seriously boosted from the low-resolution input of my pocket camera, downloaded video shorts and the like. Seems like most anything above a 500p MPEG-4 or FLV is good enough to make a fairly decent DVD for an average size TV screen.Sadly not useable on all players, but maybe that´s more of a disc standard issue (the DVD-/DVD+ bit)than the question of PAL or NTSC or built-in region blocks for that matter.

Tried 2 other DVD write software to write a avi movie...
both failed... stating ... not enough space on 4.7 gig DVD+R disc...
bummer... have to buy some DL discs
just for the hell of it installed today's offer per chance...
it burned the same movie to the DVD+R disc without a hiccup...
immediately took an image of my drive with this software installed...
a keeper... nice

Download, install and activate fast and flawless. Did a test with four video in wmv format about a half hour in length total. Burned to DVD quickly and easily. I have been using Aiseesoft converter for a while starting with Aiseesoft Convert 6 and now with Total Media Converter and been 100% happy with those. The GUI to DVD Creator is almost identical to Total Media Converter so is easy to pick right up. I really like the editing feature of DVD Creator and Total Media Convertor. I always use Total Media to convert and do initial editing of individual clips clips that I will use in Sony Vegas for final edit and rendering. I can do the same thing in Sony but Aiseesoft is easier and faster for my intitial editing. I really like the same feature in DVD Creator. Thanks GAOTD and AISEESOFT.

Seems good except unable to add background images or music to menu despite it showing ability in Menu edit section. The two sections for doing so are greyed out and unusable. Considering the stock background images do not match the themes of what I want to burn into a DVD makes it unwanted. (A big eyed, cute puppy, and the like, are the wrong type of images to use for my homemade zombie flick, get the picture?) Having the options greyed out makes it seem that this is not a full program, but a hobbled program/demo.

This is mainly directed to #7, I normally check within 5 minutes of the give away being first posted, today there was 149 likes in less than two minutes of the software being posted. So yes, there is something messed up here. The negative comments generally seem to come from people mentioning other free products. If your not going to write an actual comment ABOUT the software then don't bother commenting. There's no need to bash something just because there is free alternatives. Overall this is a great piece of software to add the the collection, I just wish it would have come out before I bought another last month :(

http://www.vso-software.fr is the website of VSO Software, who develop and sell the superb ConvertXtoDVD. Now why this application should be trying to connect to VSO software's website suggests something isn't right. To me it suggest Aiseesoft have probably reverse engineered ConvertX and nicked some code for this product, but forgotten to remove the phone home check that ConvertX does to check for updates. If that's the case then it is very bad practice for what is trying to come across as a legitimate company, as reverse engineering is illegal in the US and UK, as is using code that is copyright to another company without their permission.

Are you saying that this software allows you to copy a VHS tape to a DVD or Flash Drive?

I don't know anything about all those extensions mentioned in the description of the software. But, if this program will copy my VHS tapes, I might invite you to dinner. LOL

Giovanni said "Honestly I don’t know any FREE ALTERNATIVE that can edit videos and at the same time it’s able to author DVD in one fell swoop!!!"

Well...you might want to look at FREEMAKE VIDEO CONVERTER, which gives you a basic editor for snipping out commercials (etc) and can covert several files of different types (all at once) into a single file of whatever type you select (with many custom choices).

It is also one of very few programs (supposedly as this one is) which will speak "TS FILE" formats, for those of us who have hard drive video recorder/DTV tuners, and want to convert our recorded files to something of a sane file size, or to pres the files to DVD.

I am still getting this right now, and I will see how it works.

Don't forget to uncheck the auto update box under tools or such, even some updater software out there does not check if key is valid or available for update before applying, always better to do manually. Also nice this registers with your own name.

(Follow-up up from #49)
MORE FEEDBACK FOR THE CREATORS:
I have found one vital and two valuable features missing.
First the vital feature: The ability to select chapter markings. There is only the option to set the time between automatic chapter creations.
Two valuable features: Adding background video to the menu, and allowing thumbnail preview video option for in the menu.
As a ConvertXtoDVD user, the extra $15 seems worth it to be able to customize the chapters, menu background, and allow for thumbnail previews.

I really like the software so far, but I'd rather pay the extra $15 to get full control over the DVD and add more personality. If you added those features and were still able to price less than ConvertXtoDVD, I think you could cut into the market at a faster rate.

FEEDBACK FOR THE CREATORS:
It looks nice, and the premade previews look pretty good, but I could not customize them. I've tried clicking frame, dragging and dropping them...but them I realized that I had to add videos to the cue BEFORE customizing the template. OK, I finally got it customized. But it saves over the template that I edited. Yes, I can restore the original, but there should be a way to save a new template. I like some of the templates more than others and see three or four that I would use often. Rather than having to constantly lose my settings, couldn't there be an easy way to save additional templates?

I still have not tried burning any DVD's, but I would recommend that the program prompt the user at the first install and ask if they want NTSC or PAL. I would have been irritated if I have wasted a DVD or two burning a different format than my DVD player could use, and thought the program didn't work. You may even want to prompt for the default of 4:3 or 16:9...

Thanks for participating in GAOTD. I will certainly check this program out a bit more and some of your other software as well.

While the program does what it promises it does not have the dynamics to compete other software of its kind, even the free ones.
Nevertheless, downloaded, installed and registered flawlessly.
The appearance and functionality is very good, giving right guidance to the "amateur" user.
I converted some files to DVD with no problem at all.
The output is descent, even though an experienced eye could spot some pixeling especially in the fast moving scenes.

The one thing that i disliked (and it is the one thing that made me uninstall the program) was when i tried to convert to DVD a pack of 10 AVI files. Each movie file was about 10 minutes long, 150MB of space and already in DVD dimensions (720x572px). It took about 3 hours for the operation to finish and the result was ψλεαρλυ lower than the source files.

I would recommend it only to those who want something simple and easy and perhaps have enough available time to spare.

@ #23 Giovanni, I see that you come here most everyday and post freeware alternatives. But, it seems that you just go to Softpedia and copy and paste what they have listed. You haven't tried them so how do you know they are alternatives to the software being given away?

Has anyone ever read one of your reviews? They aren't reviews they are just a PR that is copied and pasted or the developers info.

What you are doing is being a bit disingenuous in that you are recommending software that you haven't used. This isn't helpful and in fact it is more of a distraction.

It is much more helpful would only post reviews only if they have used the software.

@ #36 (zip_up_99) If you don't know the value of DVD Burning software you shouldn't post about this offering - Now we are LMAO at you.

With so many here focusing on the 'video' side of the process of the software being offered, what about the 'burning' side? Does DVD Creator come with it's own burning engine (like Starburn with WinX DVD) or does it use a third party burner like Imgburn or the built in windows burner? Experience has taught me that STarburn does not play nice with some other software....

Re Posts #29 (& 44): This seems rather strange and surprising to me. VSO is a *French* (_not_ Chinese) company that puts out several products, most notably ConvertXtoDVD, a payware program of the same genre. As with a freeware alternative -- the powerful but more complicated to learn and use AVStoDVD -- and this one, they are all built around FFMPEG and the FFMPEG conversion library. If there is some connection between AiseeSoft and VSO, I'd be most curious to learn what it is.

There are actually a few other programs in this category, free or otherwise. DVDFlick is one, but development on it apparently ceased a while ago.

registers simply with the given key

installs into directory tree of your choice, 90 MB
appears clean

CHM Help file

the Edit, Preview windows did not display anything
- most of the time, though the clips did play (i
could hear the audio). & even if the Preview did
display, it only showed a single frame & did not
"play".

Edit window is not resizable

having no knowledge of this type of program, what
is seems to do looks to be quite basic. IOW other
then the ability to output to "DVD", the program
looks to offer no more features then are typically
found on (the huge number of) video conversion
programs (from GAOTD)

three MOV clips, where the audio was out of sync
when played on MPlayer, after converting to DVD
(ISO actually), then pulling the .VOB's out then
were synced correctly when played in MPlayer.

so i'm left with an opinion of, eh.

it works, it outputs to "DVD", but other then
that, appears quite basic in usage & operation

so, eh.

I downloaded and installed just fine on Windows 7 64 bit. I made a simple project with 2 short videos to try out the program. This is exactly what I have been looking for but have a few things to mention.

Unless I am just not seeing how to do it, there is no way to save the project you are currently working on. I'll tell you why this is necessary and also alert to another problem at the same time. I had made my custom dvd menu and made everything perfect, and I plugged in my external usb cd/dvd burner drive. The program did not recognize the drive. The Destination drop down still only showed Iso or DVD folders.

So I made the DVD folders, then just copied them to the dvd after the fact. I put it in my dvd player and it did not work, so I tried burning an iso which just hung the program. I had to shut down the program via task manager. When I restarted the program, it then recognized the drive, but my entire project was lost. Note to self: plug in your drive BEFORE running the program.

If I am just doing something wrong, please steer me in the right direction? Otherwise, saving needs to be added and the lack of drive refreshment in the program needs to be addressed.

Also, several things do not stick while editing the DVD menu. I picked a song for background music, then decided to change the background picture, and my song choice was dropped to I had to re-choose. I also could not get a dvd title to change the color to black, though I got the film clips titles black. When I changed the background picture, the titles that I put in went back to default, which makes a lot of work for me if I put in the elements in an order that is not to the program's liking.

I was then able to burn to my usb drive. I tried the dvd in my player and it still did not work. Apparently it's just not formatting it the correct way. I does work in my computer, but the backgrounds and text look very pixelated and blurry. I used the NTSC format as I am in USA.

Overall, I'm disappointed in the output. I admit to not knowing much of what I am doing, so maybe I am just not doing it right. Anyone have input for me?

@37 - Freemake is a terrific video editor, not just a conversion program. Two problems though: frequent updates that seem to add little or nothing and, the program is now inflicting Facebook "like" screens all over the place. I might have "liked" them if they hadn't shoved it in my face, so I use an older version, and I'll check back every month or so (and ten upgrades later) to see if they've stopped the nonsense.

DON'T CRY, please. And there is not only one truth, yours!

Some people are burning DVDs for older people who aren't in posession of a computer but own a DVD player. I record good old films in the middle of the night for them. There are other reasons too.

Chinese firms (PRC) are selling under many names. http://www.vso-software.fr (91.121.9.40) seems to come from the same root. But it's no trustworthy behaviour phoning home secretly and for unknown reasons.

By the way: For software given away free I try to get registration/license data if necessary and possible and install it some time later when antivirus software has had time to update.

I have installed this program, spent some time setting up a menu and converting 3 x 1h files to go onto a DVD (something that I regularly do with other software.) I noticed that it overlays subtitles, so you can turn them on and off, unlike some other programs. However, when I came to burn the VIDEO_TS directory onto a DVD (I tried 2 different burner programs) I was told that the directory size was 4.4GB and would not fit on the blank DVD. That's a pity, because the program looked good otherwise.

What ever happened to Aiseesoft's BluRay ripper? I've used Aiseesoft's products and always found them quite good. Suggest the manufacturer consider more multicore support in addition to cuda optimization, to make the products even better. Handbreak smokes some of their current software due solely to multicore support.

Goodness Giovanni! That was awesome! :)

Just 1 more addition:

WinX DVD Author ( http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-author/ )

For general use:

1. Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 FREE ( http://www.ashampoo.com/en/usd/fdl )

2. MagicISO ( http://www.magiciso.com/download.htm )

3. ImgBurn ( http://www.imgburn.com/ )

4. CD Burner XP ( http://cdburnerxp.se/en/home ) - Its portable too

@14 (BradS) => As you see Giovanni has already given us some very good free alternatives. But there's nothing wrong with more, right? ;)

Full Blown VIdeo Editor:

1. Windows Movie Maker (prebuilt in Windows, did you check that out?)

2. ffDiaporama ( http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Editors/ffDiaporama.shtml )

3. DVD Flick ( http://www.dvdflick.net/ )

However I have a few more video converters.. ( I guess some time back I had given the same suggestion. )

1. Freemake Video Converter ( http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/ )

2. Format Factory ( http://www.formatoz.com/download.html )

3. iWisoft Free Video Converter ( http://www.iwisoft.com/videoconverter/ )

4. DVDVideoSoft Free Studio ( http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/free-dvd-video-software.htm )

5. Pazera Video Converters Suite ( http://www.pazera-software.com/products/vcsuite/ ) - portable

Lastly, if you can keep up with it, Wondershare, WinX, Bigasoft and MacX keeps giving out their converters for free in various blogs and as giveaways in their respective websites. They are decent too.

Hope that suits your needs.

Cheers and have a great day! :)

I am not knocking GAOTD or the company making this software giveaway, I appreciate trying out useful programs, but...

@ comment #24 Hubert. Did you even check that site...it says for Win2K and Win XP and last update was Jan 2011, over a year ago. Have you heard about Vista or Win 7??? LMAO.

@ comments #2 and 4 (fonny)...you should be banned for stupidity and your comments removed. Whoever paid you to write that should have your keyboard shoved down their throat and yanked out the other end. It might act as a deterrent in the future.

As for the rest of you debating DVD software is hilarious...WTF??? I can't believe that informed people can 'even justify' mentioning the many free alternatives.
DVD burning...for a boot/recovery disc maybe, but you can do that with a flash drive also and it is much easier, cheaper, and quicker to put info on a flash drive or HD. At roughly a buck a GB of reusable space my 32GB and 64GB flash drives go everywhere. I even use a couple of older 8GB in the vehicle for music. Try carrying around the equivalent in CD's and DVD's, LMAO.

CD's and DVD's get scratched and degrade over time, plus the space they take up. Yes, flash drives and HD's do fail, but with my 3TB hard drives; I have all my MP3's, videos, photos, movies, software, and any other important data backed up in triplicate. I've never even had 2 HD's fail together, LOL.

*Now, if I can only get a decent program that I can copy my old VHS family tapes to a digital version to store on my hard drives to edit and view on my big screen. Yeah, I've tried many...but I'm looking for something that works, LOL. Any serious suggestions that are compatible with Vista or Win7 would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great day folks, thanks to GAOTD and all of you fine freebie hunters for reading my rant.
Let's see if I can set a record for -negativity ;-)

Sorry - forgot to mention in my previous post - the "5.1" is the program version number it doesn't actually have anything to do 5.1 audio - i checked the settings on 2ch sources and there's no option for upmix. Not a complaint from me - just pointing it out for those who don't know already.

Cheers!

I've always been a fan of Aiseesoft products. Thank you Aiseesoft & GOTD.

For those who are looking for a few clicks to make a DVD app this will do it for you. The app is basically a front end for some of my favorite command line apps: ffmpeg, dvdauthor, mplex - etc. It would be nice to have a straight author option without conversion but i can't find it (Its possible from the CLI though!) .. My only complaint is i don't see any acknowledgment to the FFMPEG project.

A big thanks to GOTD and AISEESOFT. The programme downloaded and installed quickly and easily.

I've just tried it out and was well impressed with the results. I will be keeping this for sure.

Does this differ at all from Tipard DVD Creator that I recently downloaded and installed from GAOTD? The two interfaces look almost 100% alike.

Downloaded, installed, activated smoothly on Win7 x86
No problem. The program looks good
However, I have just one security question; While burning a DVD with this program, my firewall gave me this message:
(( Aiseesoft DVD Creator is trying to access the internet.
Remote Address: www.vso-software.fr (91.121.9.40)
Remote Port: 80
Protocol: TCP))
How this program connects to other sites without my permission, particularly when this site is NOT for Aiseesoft??
I'm really curious to know !!!!!!!

Problem + Solution

For fast processing and best quality I prefer "smart encoding" (I first heard of was with free DVDShrink from Nero people). This means that a cut etc. MPG file isn't coded again (worse quality!) or only the tiny part till next keyframe. Same for pictures: try IrfanView lossless rotation e.g. 10 times with storing, same with normal lossy and then compare results (by the way lossless crop: free JPEGCROPS).

What I need:
1 .ts (MPG-TS or H264) from TV to DVD (MPG-PS)
2 lossless cut (advertising etc.) for MPG-TS to MPG-PS.
Prior Giveaway "Aiseesoft Total Media Konverter 6.26.6" from 2011-09-16 didn't recognize "my" ts.

My first (free) solution
(Free ProjectX is a little bit too complicated for me but can correct faulty transport streams!!!)
Cut with free AviDemux at Keyframes (smart encoding), MPG-TS to MPG-PS cut+saving about 4 minutes for 1 hour video (pentium dual core).
Important: In Options choose "VBR map". If asynchronous video+sound: use delay. If delay values from MediaInfo (show tree!, audio delay) or DGIndex1.58 (in name of demuxed file, break+erase demuxed partial files) are incorrect you can use MPayer or SMPlayer (and find exact value by + or - keys (at lip movements part of video)). As I remember: DGIndex correctly signed delay, with both others: + to - and dirty poems (little old joke: vice versa, - to +).
Then with "normal" MPG (PS) you may use any authoring programm (e.g. free DVDAuthor), preferably with smart encoding, perhaps Aiseesoft DVD Creator 5.1 can do.
By the way I save the resulting folder to hard disk. Then DeepBurner 1.9 Portable or any other or even later Windows.

My latest solution
Some days ago I lost patience and bought a renowned commercial package (including BlueRay support+player) which does smart encoding since more than 5 years ago. But it's not portable and my poor registry ...

Have a nice day and thanks to Giveaway and for all good posts.
I always read the comments, hoping for good giveaways and good hints to freeware and portable soft.

Have downloaded and installed DVD Creator 5.1 but not found time for trying.

When creating a DVD from another file format(such as .avi), does this program create all the video.ts and audio.ts files, or does it just convert to mpeg?
