Making AMD-App work!
It looks enabeled after install, but is disabeled forever when starting the program later.
The same bug is in all aiseesoft products like TRP-Converter and Total Video Converter.
I tried this with the releases at Giveawayoftheday and installed the latest drivers for my HD5770. OS: XP Home32bit SP3, CPU: Core2Duo E8400.

To Giovanni: Thanks for all the freeware links which you have provided for quite some time. They certainly make for interesting research.

The link for http://portable-app.com is valid but the download link doesn't work. When you try to download (giving company name and email address) it leads to a dead link 404 error.

Awesome software! Running Win 8 X64 RP on a quad core, with a stereoscopic 3D NVidia card. Adjusted depth to 50% on the 3D Video settings, and your output looks better than 3D - almost holographic. Thanks GOTD and Aiseesoft. Will buy in Oct.

Talking of real-time conversions that shouldn't be possible but do actually work... the DVD upscaling done by this software DVD player -
http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/technology/enu/true-theater-solution.jsp
- is truly remarkable and plays DVDs at blu-ray quality. Better than any hardware DVD upscaling I've ever seen. The same company has a 2D -> 3D converter so if anyone here has seen it in action please let us know how well it compares to today's offering.

Ok, here are two AVI videos - one is 2D - the other is an identical 3D rendition.....
http://www.4shared.com/video/iUphgOcQ/House_of_Wax_2D_-_1953_-_Paddl.html
http://www.4shared.com/video/gQagjyYQ/House_of_Wax_3D_-_1953_-_Paddl.html

When a 3D video Conveter can take the 2D AVI and make it into the results the 3D AVI shows, then I will be a believer. NO other 3D Converters have shown me they are capable of converting a 2D Video with results like the 3D video has to offer. This is an Anaglyph 3D video, so you will need Red/Cyan Glasses to view the effects.....
If any of you know of a Video Concerter that will accomplish what the 3D Video AVI shows, then let me know..... Thanks....

If someone understands 3D better, please explain how a single source image can possibly become “3D” – it has to be just some silly pixel offset thing, right? Not really 3D right? I’ve seen the Hollywood documentaries on 3D and there
‘s always TWO cameras. Thoughts?

There are two techniques that could be used:

1) *IF* the camera is panning sideways (eg on a dolly track or looking out a train window) successive images are displaced and can be used instead of left eye/right eye images. Easy to get front inverted for back if panning in the wrong direction, but the software should take care of that.

2) As someone mentioned, you can crudely approximate a depth map by analyzing the depth of field of the image.

Neither technique is very good and if you're a 3D enthusiast, this sort of processing will drive you nuts.

There are some academic research projects to extract depth from single images which use techniques like FFTs. There's also methods of converting specific objects to 3D such as faces.

It's down at the moment but when the site is up have a look at make3d.cs.cornell.edu

Google for terms like 'depth map extraction from single image'

Aiseesoft Total Media Converter Platinum already has capability to "convert 2D to 3D." So, I don't believe I need to install it separately unless this program does even more in the conversion than the all-in-one Platinum version given away recently.

Regarding updates, most of the giveaways, including Aiseesoft products (I'm fairly certain) ask first before updating. Even though they check for updates and notify me, I respond "No" unless I decide to buy it at that time.

@Mauricio
Do remember that GAofD is meant to be full-featured non-timebombed TRIALS. You're supposed to still eventually buy or uninstall them.
If you don't want to support the developer and leach off the giveaway trial, simply uncheck the check box for updates.
MOST people prefer to have updated software in the real world; and generally the auto-update features are ON by default.

@VaughnF
You're probably installing a 3D or accelerator driver for your video chip if you don't have it installed already. Driver downloads are common with video apps.

And before anyone flames me over that first comment; yes, I've purchased 3 different titles form this company since the total video converter giveaway. Great products and reasonable prices. Also quick to respond support. They're worth supporting if you want them to keep making quality apps for low prices.
