I have been wanting some software like this for ages, it does exactly what i want it to do, copy my film DVDs to ipod format. It is really easy to use, it was free and doesn't take to long to copy.
Many thanks.

I found the program to be quite useless and sorry I bought it. It will not rip copy protected material. I will stick with AIMERSOFT DVD Ripper, it is easy to use and the support is great.

Alison, Your activation code comes with the set up file sent by GOTD.
It is behind the box that is asking for it. Just move the activation box and there it is behind the box. It has been there all along for you each time you tryed to install your new free software. Many have cared about you and others having trouble. That is why we post here at all.
You sometimes need to think outside the box a bit, and try a few things.
Some times here most folls know you need to look a bit to get the job done, but hey dont you feel so good when you nut out a new problem.
Just move the box that is asking for the code, and there it is behind waiting to be copied and pasted in place.......enjoy.

Alison, I can see now what you are asking. It is against policy to post activation codes publicly. In fact, it could even be illegal. The advice that everyone is giving you will work, if you follow the directions.

Boy, why have people answered me with the installation setup sequence when every foll knows how to install a program from here, when I wasn't asking how to activate the software, I was asking for the details for activating the program. In laymens terms, I need someone to post a copy of the activation details as I can't access them when I try to install, I get an error. I only hoep there is someone who actually cares about other people who could simply copy thier activation codes and paste it here so I can activate my version. Admin have just chosen to ignore my pleads for help, maybe they don't care about us or they can't be bothered to simply send a little email that wouldd take them 10 seconds with the activation codes, but they haven't contacted me once, nor has anyone else tried to help me. It seems to me that I would be happy to help others, but that feeling is so one sided as no one can be bothered helping me. Why do I even try for something so simple.

To NO:17 and the others who dont read well.
1 Download
2 Read the readme file
3 Start the install
4 Copy username and password from the screen that pops up
5 Paste info into correct location on the activation popup
This takes 20 seconds to do and the program is good to go.
PS this is one great ripper.
I have used it for over 100 rips in the past...enjoy what is good for you and leave the rest for others.

Hmmm...

I am running it on Vista Ultimate. Tried ripping a short DVD. It seems to stall at 96.37% and never completes.

Switched the executable to XP service pack 2 compatibility and tried again. Same problem - will not complete. Anybody else having this issue?

This program doesn't actually rip the DVD, it converts it into a file that is much much lower in quality. The output files are made to be seen on devises with small screens.

Thanks #22 for sharing the 'comparison' about Aimersoft and today's giveaway (which was very helpful comment to 'avoid' us to install too many similar 'Utility tools' in our PC)and thanks BladdedThoth's great review too. However, can BladdedThoth or anyone that been with GOTD site for quite a while advise me that which converting video softwares that gave away before can perform the function of convert a video to 'Audio CD' only? Cos those sw given away before is either 'Audio' or different 'Video formats' only. If non can, is there any freeware that is easy to use (hopefully don't take 'century' to convert a Video file to Audio formats for a home CD player to work. I am trying to convert some FLV music video from e.g Youtube to a 'playable audio format' for Home CD player. Thanks a lot will appreciate any helpful advise.

Have a great day anyone. :)

BTW, I just read Bladed Thoth's review. I did not have the problems with modern copy protected disks. I use both AnyDVD (commercial retail) and DVD43 (free from either afterdawn, doom, or free-codecs). As I always run one of those to rip my DVD's, I did not see a problem.

Agogo DVD Ripper is ok. It is well behaved in a multi-head/multi-monitor setup. The program itself, as well as requisite dialogs all appear centered in the primary monitor.

While some DVD Rippers work well with region free DVD player/burners, this one does not. I could not even get it to work with region free player/burner with a program that usually gets around that problem for me. That's OK, most people have regular DVD player/burners.

The interface is clean and simple to use. Although utilitarian, it is pleasant to look at.

Openning Output, one is given one the option of opening a DVD, or opening VOB files from a hard drive. If one has a DVD ripper that copies VOB files to HD, this is a nice option. I like that even though Agogo does not support region free p[layers, it still left me the option to try.

Output is fairly straightforward. The only thing a little confusing is that to select the target output format, one has to click one of the balloons at the top of the dialog. While this is cute, it is a little less than functional. Still, once you get used to seeing them it is not really a problem.

AVI DivX is supported, and properly labeled (unlike other Rippers that insist on calling DivX simply AVI (it is not - DivX is a lesser version subset of the AVI format).

Also supported are formats for VCD/SVCD, iPod (an mpg format), PSP QVGA, 3GP (both QVGA and QCIF), and finally Pocket PC (both QVGA and VGA). Selecting each one presents one with a selection of available options that appear below the input file conversion options.

In the input conversion opitions, one is presented with a pull down list of available titles to rip. Some people like the trailers and such that come on some DVD's, or special features, so this is a nice feature. If all you want is the main movie, look for the largest title. This could also be useful for re-authoring a DVD.

Below that are options for selecting the audio tracks to convert. In my tests, it properly listed all available audio tracks, including 4 channel, Dolby 5.1 and Dolby 7.0 and DTS.

The other available input conversion option is for subtitles. I found this to be slightly problematic. It did not consistently find available subtitles. I do not know exactly why, just be aware that it may not always work.

The next section of the Output Settings dialog is for setting the actual output file options. Selecting one of the balloons for output file format at the top changes the available options.

I won't go into every available format option. Let me just say that they are appropriate for the ouput format one has selected.

I did note a few problems here. It seems like the video size options available in DivX, iPod, PSP, 3GP and Pocket PC is the standard by which the conversion will be done. For instance, in selecting the XviD, one can only select 320X240 with a range of audio outpuc conversions.

Changing the Video Size option to make a larger picture did make the resulting picture larger, but is seems like it was only a blowup of 320 x 240. The larger picture is loaded with blocky artifacts, much like one would see if one simply made the player window larger. The same was true of the other available formats.

Output format options also include frame rate (always select 29.97 if you intend to watch the resulting file on a TV. Other rates will still play, but there may be flickering or darkened image problems. Doesn't make that much difference if you will watch on a computer based screen, though.), Video bit rate (the higher the better, but at the cost of larger files), Audio bit rate (higher = better, larger file), aspect ratio (here is where i noted another problem - Although I selected 16:9 and tested it with a widescreen movie, it still came out as 4:3), and audio sample rate (higher = better, larger file).

A nice feature is that for VCD/SVCD, one can not only select output to either PAL or NTSC. While I do not have a specific PAL player, on playback the window looks like I would have expected.

Avaialbe for VCD/SVCD are options to split the file to fit larger files on CD's. It worked fine, and I did not have a problem switching disks. I say that because some rippers do not properly split the files and getting subsequent CD's to play is sometimes problematic. Not in this case.

Other selections on the Output Settings dialog include the output folder. I save my movies on a 500 GB portable USB 2 HD, so this is a bonus.

You can have the program sutdown the computer after converting the movie. I did not try this, so I can't say if it works right.

Also available is a button to Preview DVD Scene Pictures. It did not seem to do anything. Whether I selected it or not, I say the preview pictures.

This program is probably one of the best I've seen here for DVD Rip/conversion, despite the problems I found. The one thing I'd like to see (besides better large frame conversion quality) is a straight VOB Rip.

While I personally will not be keeping this one, it would be a nice addition for anyone who simply wants to make reasonable quality backups of thier DVD collection.

One last note. If you have a problem playing back any of the converted files, you are probably missing a codec, it is out of date, or perhaps corrupt.

Go to www.free-codecs.com and look for either ffdShow (it has a few bugs, but works almost all the time), and/or the XP codec pack (also a little buggy, but not as much as ffdShow). ffDshow requires an up to date DirectX installation, XP Codec Pack should work with whatever you have.

All in all, Agogo DVD Ripper is a nice program. Get it while it is free. However, the asking retail price is too high, given the lack of VOB rip support. There are other commercially available rippers at this price that do support VOB rips.

The problem that some are experiencing is because the GOTD servers are being bombarded with requests. Some of you may know of this effect as "the Digg Effect" or the "Slashdot" effect or a DDos attack (of course DDos in terms of http requests, there's no malice intent).

The server is unable to deal with so many requests, and quickly the sql server starts sputtering out errors due to the server load. GOTD is a victim of it's own popularity. Anyways, this is the first GOTD that I've actually downloaded and going to install and probably use.

1. Uninstall
2. Restart your computer in safe mode with networking!
3. Reinstall and restart windows normally

If this recommendation works on you, please thumb up!
Thank always GAOTD!

For the people having problems installing, I have found that the window with the reg key hides if you allow the program to launch after inastall. So, either uncheck the box to launch Agogo DVD Ripper, or carefully minimize each open window. There should be one that says "Successfully Activated" (it has the check boxes to add GAOTD to IE/Firefox favorites/bookmarks), and the User name and Registration Key will be in that dialog window.

Having just installed this, I will be back with my take in about an hour. I hope that this one is nice. I do not usually bother with conversion at the same time as rip, since that is a long process. But, many people look for such a feature.

BTW, if you have not discovered it, the Game site seems to be working now. One can see that yersterday was a big problem; there's one lonely, cryptic comment.

To #10, I installed Agogo DVD Ripper on my Windows Vista Home without any problem, but I couldn’t run it as same as #8. Does this software support Windows Vista Ultimate but not Windows Vista Home? Or did I miss some steps?

To #3, yeah, Aimersoft DVD Ripper is the best DVD Ripper I have ever used; I love it so much, if GAOTD could rerun it, I would be so happy. I have compared Agogo DVD Ripper with Aimersoft DVD Ripper, it seems Aimersoft DVD Ripper is more powerful and provides more options for setting. And I found that Aimersoft has released the Mac version

Hope GAOTD can run it as giveaway, coz I need a free DVD Ripper for my Mac OS X leopard.

I don't mind trying out yet another DVDripper.
This piece of software is easy to use due to very limited options. Very limited number of output formats available (I'm talking about resolutions, not filetypes). Not possible to split tracks and record all chapters separately (good for music videos in particular), or even to extract one chapter (think you can do this manually by searching for the start- and endpoint).
All in all I'd say this is primarily for people who want to rip entire films to 320x240. It's certainly not a way to back up your movies.
And it does seem to work with Vista. However, my test-rip (for ipod) just finished, and Quicktime says there's an error in the file. Uninstalling now.
