Hello

For those of you who are having problems with the update, follow the advice from #287 and download it manually, it works every time. It is very simple to do.

I waited a few weeks to post so that I'd actually know whether I liked this or not. I love it! I used to have 5 or 6 crashed a day with this piece of junk computer of mine. My wife and I were ready to just throw the thing away we were so so sick of it! "Advanced WindowsCare Pro" gave it new life!

This seemed to be an very nice application, BUT:
The 'free' license does not include downloading of updates. That also inlcludes spam-sigantures etc.

So 'free license' is not true in this case!

I fired up my copy of this software and I am told the free version has expired. I have downloaded several wonderful software titles with no problems from Giveaway.com. I followed the instructions as I always do and am disappointed that I can't install any updates. Any suggestions to fix this issue? Has anybody had this problem with this nice piece of software?

Instead of using the Advanced Windows Care Professional's own restore feature, try SYSTEM RESTORE, built into windows. And (usually) On.

It will put you back to the time before you made changes, and/or optionally before you installed the program, whichever you choose. If you have a restore point set.
Click START menu, then RUN..., then type rstrui.exe and hit enter. That will launch the tool for you.
Another way is you can type MSCONFIG and hit enter, then there is a button that says [LAUNCH SYSTEM RESTORE] There's another way to access it.
SystemRestore is only on XP forward. Sorry, not on 95, 98, ME, etc.

If you did backups, friend, you wouldn't have to reformat. If you're no novice, then you know enough that this kind of thing can happen all the time.
And thus the way to really be an "expert" instead of a novice is to always have backups. :)
In fact, as a boss, when I hire people, I always ask the technical applicants if they have a backup for their own pc. If they go "Uhhhm. Uh. Ahh...wait.. uhm. no" then that probably isn't a good IT person to have managing all your equipment, and that candidate is never going to get a job in my corporation. Don't care if they can make it to Level 329 of Gorgon WarLords Online! in only 2.5 hours! and 'made a chat site!' and are king of the pokemon linux forum. lol. An expert is not someone who knows how to reformat. An expert is someone who never has to reformat. :)

Here's some technical info from the ol' 'advanced specialist' for EVERYONE downloading programs from here:
1. Always make backups. (note the 's' on the word backups. Make backups, not 'a' backup.)
2. A clone backup is really nice because you get everything back, down to the little pixel where you moved your desktop icons last night. Or whenever you made the clone.
3. Other types of backups are also good to do too, including Differential Backups, a Windows Registry backup, *before you go removing registry keys!*, and having SystemRestore On so you can get to a "last known good" time period, and even simply dragging important stuff over to a USB memory stick or burning really important stuff onto a CD or DVD once in a while. Use all of them. There's no such thing as too many backups.
4. Like I said before in here, if you guys are *experimenting* with this software downloaded from this site, and you don't know what its going to do, USE VIRTUALIZATION TO TEST IT! Don't run it on your master copy of windows. Go get VirtualPC or VMWare. You can run this software in a little pc inside your pc, and see what it does. If it messes up, throw the whole virtual pc file away and make a new one its easy. If the tested program is safe, install it on your real system. If not, no harm was done to your real system. They are free! Take advantage of it.

It's fun too! You can use it for all kinds of stuff.
Run 2 OS's at the same time. See if a prog is compatible with win98 even though you run XP. Maybe you never tried linux before but were curious and would like to try it for fun, but you don't have another whole computer or drive to spare, you could use this to learn linux, make more money at your job with linux experience, get a $$$ raise. Test programs you're unsure of. Load templates that are all set to run like a linux os with router software. If you're done, just drag the pc file into the trashcan. And most of all, use it to test out software here from GAOTD.
You know a side benefit would be that if you regged it on the activation day, and you did it in a little virtual pc file, you could take that file to another pc, delete the file from the 1st pc, and have the software program running and still fully and properly registered and running on the new pc. As long as you delete the 1st one, you still have only 1, which is perfectly proper and legal and within all the licensing and proper use. A virtual pc will run a little slower, so it might not be suitable for all purposes for all things. But for testing, definitely.

Ok, hope that helps. If it saves 1 person from damage or disaster, then I guess it was worth it. :)

Enjoy!
