ASC Pro must be configured to your needs before you run it, that's all. When you install a new program it is necessary to review the default settings and customize them to your system and your needs. Especially when running a system care or clean up program. As a Help Desk Technician I learned that user error is the primary and most common cause of computer problems. ASC Pro is an excellent program. I run it every day in all my systems. It's been three years now without a hitch. It keeps all my systems running smoothly. I truly do not understand why so many thumbs down. If you got it free, you're lucky.

Hey, I come here every day because I like and need free and appreciate all free and free trials. What don't people understand about free?! Try it if you want, if it works support those who survive 1/1000 odds. It's like hey I gave Bob and Bill $20 AND I am giving you $10. Oh how whiny some can be! Grow up folks and be kind. Be honest and objective, offer alternatives (as Ashraf and Giovanni do SO WELL 99% of the time. Over 30 years of computing I am known as the "utilities geek" in computer circles. I have ASC on all 3 computers and would likely never switch. I will check out some new offerings here as sometimes one does something. ASC is safe never an issue! Surf a little bit for other reviews. You may visit settings several times before you have it tweaked to your needs and tastes (ie wife's is more automated). Appreciate all those options. PS I am comforted that they are "only" giving away 6 months. If it were a year I would be miffed!

#18, but why would it remove shortcuts for programmes that were still installed? These weren't orphaned shortcuts that no longer connected to anything, they were working, valid shortcuts. It literally took out about half of the shortcuts in my Start menu, no exaggeration, and I have a LOT of installed programmes, so it was a lot of shortcuts it removed. I contacted Wise Care and calmly and politely described what happened and asked for suggestions. They didn't even bother to send a "thanks for your e-mail" auto-reply. I uninstalled Wise Care 365 and other software from the same company. They couldn't pay me enough to try their stuff again.

I don't understand why some people are complaining about the 6-month free licence for ASC6Pro. It's *free*, people. If you don't think you're getting enough for what it costs you (which is zero, remember), then don't download and install it. This isn't rocket surgery. No one is forcing you to use it if you don't like the deal.

I'll let it revert to the free version in six months and will use the pro version until then. Simple concept, but some ungrateful people seem to think they should get better than free.

#41, I'm very sceptical. I had a one-year free licence to the pro version from another site and when the year was up, it simply reverted to the free version. I don't see any way that it could possibly "hijack" your computer, but maybe some setting that made it start with boot-up and try to run a scan was what did it. As others have said, be very careful what you add to your boot menu. It's not that hard to run the programme manually later.

I've used ACS Pro 6.1 for some time and I have to say it is the only program I would trust to make registry modifications. It works safely, does what it says and contains quite a few tools to make life a lot easier.

The Malware Fighter is not always up to date with the latest virus information, it's a lot better than nothing. The disk defragmenter could does a decent job, but need to be able to consolidate the freespace instead of leaving it fragmented. All in all, the IObit tool set is quite impressive.

If you already have the free version of ASC installed.
I just entered the license code found in the text file of the GOTD download. It switched right to "PRO" version.

@Giovanni:
I've seen your comment at dottech. Although this might only be a temporary issue, have you thought that the sheer number of links that you usually provide (not just to lots of free alternatives, but also screen-shots and reviews etc.) is what's probably irking the mods? And while it might still be possible for you to simply type or copy+paste the URLs, wouldn't it be better if you posted links to, let's say, only 3 or 4 of your top picks and just a couple of reviews? Or perhaps a combination of both; some hyper-links and some, well, not so hyper? Personally, as someone who just reads but doesn't moderate comments, I have no problem at all with any number of hyper-links you decide to include in your posts and actually find them quite helpful. Please know that I, like many others, truly appreciate your spending time searching for and testing software and sharing your findings with the rest of us (and that's exactly why I vote your comment, alongside Ashraf's, as useful, nearly always without even reading it). Thanks a lot, keep up the good work and don't even think about leaving GoTD...DUDE ;-).

This program was better a year or two ago. I use to run the normal clean four or five times then do the deep clean. I don't see the deep clean any more. Also it takes longer to run than it used too. Of course I'm running Vista 64 bit but after using another simular program I got much better results than from this program, my machine ran faster and did not try to hang up any more. Look at what you had a year or two ago and see if you might have changed something that worked better before you changed it.

Thanks

I have used systemcare for years and its never caused a problem. I have been in IT support for 35 years and I challenge anyone who criticizes this program to provide detailed analsis of this program and a program they say is better and HOW its better. its all BS, there is no easy way to prove one of these programs is better than another unless you go through detailed controlled testing. most people have emotional opinions with no basis. I have been in IT for years and can't give a real detailed opinion on why A over B since there is a tremendous amount of work required to DO IT RIGHT !!!!

i got the free version when it was offered here. i liked it so well that i bought the pro version. well, 3 mons or so before the subscription expired, iobit changed me back to the free version. and yes, i checked my expiration date, and in fact, email from them indicated that i still had 3 months left. well, doing that screwed up my system badly. lots of hangs; forced restarts, etc. i have removed this program from my system. so word of warning.

I have been a long time IO Bit fan. Most of their tools are great, including ASC, Malware Fighter, degragger, uninstall, and memory management. I actually bought their 3 user license a few years back, but found it not worth the annual renewal fees. As long as the free versions are available (free versions are less any automatic functions), I will remain a fan. If not, there are many other free sources available out there.

Thank you GAOTD, however i do not trust IOBIT what-so-ever. I used Advanced System Care back in 2006 and i used the registry cleaner it comes with and it deleted some very important entries in it!! I don't care how improved it MAY or MAY NOT be by now, 7 years later, but with all the freeware out here today, this software isn't worth the bandwidth it needs to be downloaded.

NOT A FAN!

I am hearing so many Pros & Cons. I have used both ASC & Wise Care & have not had one second of problems. I have been using them for years!!!! I am using a very old version of Win XP but still my favorite system & still extremely stable. I absolutely agree not to pay for this stuff. There is too much free good stuff out there that works very, very good. Many have been mentioned here already. These two are my favorite & I use them every day. I see a noticeable difference for the better every time I scan. Have a Great Day!

@ Tom Freider, post #22: I know I originally raised the question of comparative performance between ASC PRO and WiseCare 365 and that since that time, different GOTDers have posted about their own uniquely individual experiences. As I pointed out in my comment, *my* experience of this type of software -- whose interaction, for good or ill, with any computer depends entirely on that computer's specific configuration and its user's preferences -- isn't necessarily going to be *your* experience. On which basis then, no GOTDer who prefers WiseCare over Iobit is "a loon" any more than someone who prefers Iobit over WiseCare is "a loon". Different horses, different courses.

I have the 6.1.9.220 version I downloaded from some other freeware site almost a year ago and it works great; the stuff Ashraf said ain't in this one offered today is in mine, so what is being offered here today in GotD seems to be a truncated, edited version.

I had the previous version of Advanced SystemCare and had a bad experience with it. I did not know that their software had expired and try to use it, but instead they hijacked my computer and tried to force me to buy their license to continue with the repair of the computer registry. When I refused, my computer stop booting and I had to do fresh install. Stay away from anyone who installs a time sensitive or expiring software on your computer, you become a victim of their strong hand black mail sooner or later.

I am so surprised with all the thumbs down and not equal number of comments. If someone doesn't like this they really should say why. This is a great program I have the PRO Version and have had it for a couple of years. It runs silent in the background. it also gives me a desktop monitor so i can always see what my system is doing. It's worth the price and today with 80% off pro it's a great deal. If you go to advanced setup you can change whatever defaults installs. I use the uninstaller alot that comes with this. The Gamebooster is another plus. people really need to try products and give an honest review. The ones who just click yea or nay without even trying really give great sites like this a bad rep.

BAD BAD BAD (and WARNING). I got this program a couple years ago. While reinstalling software on a new drive over a year later, I found out the hard way that with this company, once your 1 year subscription is up, you can't reinstall the software. It goes online and wants to update to the new version and won't install unless you update and ONLY after you pay for the new version. I fired off an email to IObit that I was wanting to install my old version and it wouldn't let me. Gave them my S/N and everything but basically I got a TOO BAD. There are WAY too many FREE util's out there and though I paid for my version, it didn't do anything special to write home about.

Luckily I have Anvir installed.

This program tried to add about 7 entries to start on boot. This is totally unnecessary, It's also set to run on start-up by default.

There's no reason you cannot just start the program when you want to use it.

You cannot uncheck the AutoUpdate feature unless you delete the PerformUpdate.exe file in the installation directory.

Maybe I'm the only one to have seen this, but I will report my experiences with Advanced SystemCare. I have been a fan of their SmartDefrag program for a long time, and have installed it on most of my customers' computers. But I don't like their 2.x series of SmartDefrag, so I always install version 1.5 and disable checking for updates. I also tell my customers to avoid clicking the ad in the lower left for Advanced SystemCare. Why? Because I had to fix three of my customers' computers after they installed ASC and let it "fix" their problems. Thank God for Lars Hederer and his ERUNT! I checked the install date and then uninstalled each time, and after that used ERUNT to get the Registry back to the date before the installation.

So, for those of you trying out ASC, back up your Registry before you do anything. It may be that the ASC problems are long since fixed, but take my warning anyway and be careful.

BTW, I highly recommend ERUNT (http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/) as a daily Registry backup. Lars Hederer recommends that users disable User Account Control (UAC) in Vista, 7, and 8 in order to get it to run on boot without complaint. For the less technically inclined, that's the easiest way (if you don't know how to do so, Google it). For those who still run Windows XP, you can just install it and let it "Create an ERUNT entry in the Startup folder."

For those with a little bit more technical savvy, I have found another way to get it to work properly, without disabling UAC. I go into the Task Scheduler and schedule a basic task to start it at logon. Then I edit that Task's properties, and set it to run as System (instead of the user). And that bypasses the UAC issue.

ERUNT also has a tool to optimize the Registry (NTREGOPT) by condensing it. You have to right click that and "Run as Administrator" in Vista, 7, and 8. I always run ERUNT specifically before I do that, just in case. I also only run that about every six months.

Hope this helps some of you. God bless! Chuck

I've been using this software for many years and have never had a pc to crash after cleaning, and always runs faster. I also use Glary Utilities Pro which I run after this one, and will find more empty keys and files and still never a crash.

The only thing I do not like about this software is that it places cookies that I do not want and will not remove those. After install check settings/Ignore/cookies and you will find a load of garbage that can only be removed by Ccleaner.

Get your act together IObit. Otherwise an excellent system cleaning application.

WiseCare365 (I bought it) freeware version IS PHENOMENAL. If you have not tried it, you must! I bought it when it was offered on BitsDUJour.com a year or so ago and I LOVE IT. IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY.

The only difference between the freeware version and the paid version is the extra 'Wise Utilities') tools they give you, which you can live without, as I did until I decided to support this great software so they could improve it, which I found, DOESN'T NEED IMPROVING.

When you boot into your desktop, it actually allows you to improve upon your boot speed by allowing you to pick and choose what starts up at boot time.

THIS SOFTWARE DOES ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU COULD WANT IN A PC MAINTENANCE TOOL.

Anyone that says Wise Care 365 is better than this is a loon..I used 3 different versions in the past 4 years and ALWAYS have some problem occur on the computer I used it on...which also make me a loon for thinking maybe this new version will work correctly and I keep jumping into the frying panit..in fact I'm still getting these weird error popups during Winxp and Vista start up on two of my PC's since the latest Wise version offered here a few months ago..The constant Iobit come-ons are annoying but the free version is working on 4 of my machines without a single problem for years now...I might as well use the free upgrade for 6 months...on a final note: on Wise Care 365, I even had to re-install XP Pro on one laptop...nothing has ever caused that system to crash before...there is no comparison

#12: This just in, war breaks out in the Pacific! ... Orville and Wilbur Wright have just successfully tested their so-called flying machine, frightening the horses of those trying to commute to work ... IBM just introduced their latest personal computer, the PCjr. Priced at only $2500, it is half the cost of their desktop model and it is expected to dramatically change the PC market forever...

And, yes, all that is old news. Just like your "newsflash" about the av signatures. It was years ago so get over it and move on. Their current product is NOT based upon MalwareBytes and it actually works quite well; finding a couple of (clear) infections that even Bitdefender (and MalwareBytes) missed.

I am using WiseCare 365 pro since it was given away here awhile ago. It cannot be updated or you lose the Pro and it goes to the free version. I have recommend the free verison to people and between the free version and using Ccleaner and Malwarebytes their system and mine remain clean. #Jeff, it only removes the start-ups if you so click to clean them. I myself do not want stuff in my start-up unless I use them regulary and even then, I prefer the short-cut to it rather than the computer resources starting up needlessly. I am sticking with WiseCare365Pro for now and intend to switch to the free version later on as everything will still be free for me and not have to worry when 6 months is up.

Please, do yourself a favor before you use any registry “cleaner”: create a restore point.

While most “cleaners” are snake oil, some are more dangerous than others. And remember: bad effects are not always immediately visible.

I know I’ll get lot of minus, but do yourself a another favor: use Google and read why registry “cleaning” is useless myth.

NOTE: I have no tested today’s program (and I just do not use anything from IObit), and I commented these registy cleaners generally. Peace!
