I decided it was time to see if A-Squared was maybe the problem. I un-installed it this morning, cleaned everything up and restarted my computer. Suddenly not only is my mail working without a hitch again - all the websites I could not reach for three days are suddenly reachable again! If you are experiencing problems as I was - I would seriously consider un-installing A-Squared and see if your problems are suddenly 'fixed.' Apparently it was hacked because i had not updated wordpress to the latest version and it was vulnerable to attack. Let this be a warning to others that use wordpress for blogging. Keep it updated and stay safe.
