Downloaded and installed perfectly but whenever I put a URL into the space provided and click 'download' it gives me an error: "Length cannot be less than zero". EVERY. TIME.

Happens with every youtube video I try to download so its not just one vid its a problem with. Have tried searching for solutions via Google and got no help whatsoever.

Other YouTube download/converters (YouTube Get / YouTube Get Converter etc)I've downloaded from here haven't worked all that well either. On top of that if you download a new video downloading software from here it pretty much overwrites (or kills off the useability) of any previously downloaded programs.

Yep this one works great on Vista64. Once you click on Download, you can choose the Output Folder destination :-) You can also go to Advanced and choose many options (Convert to type, extension, Screen Size, Codecs etc. etc.).

Very nice!

This program downloaded and installed OK on XP SP3. Appeared to register automatically to Giveaway of the Day.

However, it would not download any video from YouTube no matter what or how I tried. Showed message saying "waiting for server" (or something like that). Progress bar empty. Then it said "failed."

I uninstalled it.

I'm in the same dilemma as Sue (#50 comment). The scant Help window says "Our website (http://www.mediavigor.com/) contains a wealth of information about the YouTube Downloader product," and "The YouTube Downloader manual can be obtained in several formats (chm, pdf, online)." However, they don't say where on the site. I can't even find any reference to it there, including with a Google site search. I'd sure like to have information about how to choose the different settings. I was able to download something but the video was awful. I'm sure there's a way to make it better, but I don't have knowledge about how to fiddle with the settings. That manual they promised sure would come in handy. Anyone know where to find it? Thx.

Just use this bookmarklet on any browser while playing the youtube video and you can download the video as mp4 file.

Instructions for all browser is the same as follows:
1. Create a bookmark in your browser, name it as you like, in the URL copy/paste the below text.

javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt='+(isHDAvailable?'22':'18')+'&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']}

2. Save the bookmark.
3. Go to the video of your choice on youtube.com.
4. While playing the video, click on this bookmark(let) and the video will be downloaded to your PC as mp4 files.

As simple as that!

To number #41, use a program to Download from Utube, then use a program to convert the file to what you want, then burn it to a cd or dvd with burning software...this software is suppose to download and convert, i have not tried it. I use Sothink from a giveaway before.n I don't know about copyright issues..I suppose if you were to make cds from utube material then try selling it, you may come into problems.

It's cheap that the software developers used the Vista background - real lame in my humble opinion.

Software works - but unfortunately it's just not worth it with all the free down loaders out there.

I recommend the freeware "FreeRapid Downloader"

It supports Youtube, RapidShare, MegaUpload and around 80 other sites. Basically you input as many links as you can, and FreeRapid will take care of it. So if I have 20 Youtube links I just put 'em in and it's all good. Unfortunately there's no "convert" setting like this one, but it's free.

Also the program supports other sites like Rapidshare. Rapidshare makes you wait 30-60 seconds before a download and also only lets you download 100MB before you need to wait 14 minutes. Basically this program waits the 30 seconds before the download then waits the 14 minutes to get the second file. It's real convenient and doesn't cost a cent.

That's my "0" cents worth.

-Ted

#27 - There are several Firefox plugins that, combined, will download MOST of the videos on the web. However, your video is one that I can't download with any of my Firefox plugins.

So, the 100% always-work solution: Record the video while it plays on your screen. No, it's not my first choice, and you loose a bit of video quality, but the outcome is still OK. You can download Jing from Camtasia studios, and it's FREE. http://www.jingproject.com/ They will even host your video on their servers free also. If you don't care for a link back to their web page on your finished product, they have a Pro version that costs just $14.95 for a year. No, I don't work for them, just passing on info. Just a thought, maybe others know of a free plugin for Firefox that always works.

I find PwnYoutube to be much more convenient. It allows users to download the high-quality source of YouTube videos simply by adding 'pwn' before 'youtube.com' in the URL. As for conversion, there are literally dozens of tools out there (I find VLC to be the most versatile, although its interface may be daunting to some).

The freeware alternative I use is Free FLV Converter. It will ask you to install a toolbar, but you just uncheck the boxes to opt out of that. I've never had any type of malware problem with it (for the record, I've always opted out of the toolbar, so I can't speak to the toolbar's safety or otherwise). You can download and keep your files in flv format, or convert them to other formats. It also converts other formats TO flv. But my favourite thing about this one is that you can browse AND watch videos IN the programme without having to worry about a web browser. It allows you to do with with many sites, not just YouTube. You can also refine your search to include as many or as few of the video sites available as you like. Here's their website:

http://www.koyotesoft.com/

Look down the list of products and click on Free FLV Converter.

Other alternatives I've tested have already been mentioned, including Orbit Downloader, and the Download Helper extension for Firefox. I've found those to be good, too, but Free FLV Converter does just that little bit extra for the most part.

"Working, full-featured, beneficial Help Menu"

Where is it? I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and still the help file consists of:

"Welcome to Mediavigor YouTube Downloader;
Introduction
--Purchasing
--End User License Agreement
--Where to Get Help
--Contact us"

I've looked at the website, and I see no documentation, only contact emails. I have little to no experience with YouTube software, and I would find it helpful if the manual had information beyond, "Introduction".

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I use Firefox with DownloadHelper and then any number of programs for converting .flv to .wmv, so I don't need a separate program, but decided to give this a try since it might be useful for non-techy friends.

Installed clean in XP Sp3, all .dlls in the program directory, so no messing with my system, no browser hooks, the program must be manually started. Search was useless; I have a lot of videos on Youtube and it found none of them, even with the exact title and keywords. An icon reminiscent of Getright sits on top of the screen, but clicking it does nothing; sometimes it brings up the program, which tells you to copy the url to the program, and sometimes it doesn't even do that. If you are viewing a video on Youtube, there is no way to drag it to the icon to save it, dragging and dropping only works if the video is in the related videos list.

After copying and pasting and starting the download process, the file was saved and automatically converted to .avi, which is the default. That video was fine, but for emailing, you would want .wmv, so I set the conversion to that, but the resulting video would not play in WMP10, telling me I was missing Microsoft MPEG-1 codec. The default .wmv settings in Youtube Downloader are wmv2 and mp2, not wma. I tried various other .wmv and .wma combinations, and all failed with no error message other than Failed. While I could have corrupted codecs due to all the various multimedia apps I have installed, it is odd that these errors only occurred while using Youtube Downloader.

I didn't try to convert any other files after that. If I wanted to keep this app, I would leave it at the default conversion setting of .avi and then drop that into Movie Maker to convert to .wmv, but I don't need or want to keep Youtube Downloader and the various settings might be too much work with possibly unpredictable results for my non-techy friends.

When I try to download a video, It kicks my connection off at around 57% download every time so far.

Even Real player works better than this (also free) I have Firefox but not quite figured out how to use the plug in yet.

BTW, What happened to the games giveaway?

If this is all the software that can be found in the way of Apps, It would be better to switch back to games for a while!

kissing youtube is the best way to download videos from youtube. It's fast and easy. Just type the word - kiss - before the url in the address bar for the video you wish to download.

Just in front of the youtube.com domain name, insert the word 'kiss'.
Eg. http://www.kissyoutube.com/watch?v=VKMm4XBsqhk

and now to convert the videos into the format you want it in..use format factory a freeware..

Hello!

#2 and #9

The true is the fact, that this program is an another remake of Youtube downloader.
I have been using mentioned Firefox addon for downloading videos and later I have been using MEncoder (or similar) for converting. The main problem of this combination is that it was a big waste of time, especially when trying to run mencoder properly from command line or find proper library (or program) for my output video format. I have been retrying to define proper encoding parameters for my DVD player, embedded MPEG2 player and my mobile phone. Many retries...

In today's giveaway I have obtained an all-in-one program that has at least two function embedded in it: downloader and media converter.

Of course this program has major disadvantages. Below I will describe them shortly.

ADVANTAGES:
=> An all-in-one solution.
=> Clean and easy to use interface.
=> Built-in converter with huge output video and audio format support including:
----> WMV, MOV, MP4, 3GP, AVI and MP3 as an audio output.
=> You can extract only an audio track from video.
=> User can define some advanced parameters of encoding process for ex.: one can specify the resolution and sound bitrate when converting to mobile phone.
=> It works.

DISADVANTAGES:
=> You can NOT use the YouTube Downloader as an simple video converter, so it is impossible to convert existing files.
=> The worst is that every change of output format must be followed with a repeated download.
=> The "Search" feature does NOT work on my computer.
=> The "Play" button also does NOT work on my computer.
=> I can NOT define more advanced options such as an aspect ration or cropping.

Summing up. This is a good point of start when writing such a program, but at the moment this program looks like the beta version. Two main buttons doesn't work, user can not use existing flv files for converting and has to redownload the same video again and again when changing the output format.
Positive feedback: dragging the URL, selecting the output format, defining an advanced settings, clicking one button, waiting and it is done.

With best wishes
"adamm"

Until about a year or two ago I was using an earlier version of this software. I recall being impressed with the developer's work. It worked fine, easier and more convenient than a few other products and methods I tried. I can see that this version is much improved so I am looking forward to using it again. Why use it? In my experience it was/is easier and more convenient than some of the alternative suggestions posted here by people who seem to pretend to know the subject but haven't even tried the software.

Thank you developers, MediaVigor Software and GAOTD.
