Installs went ok on XP sp3. Register "buttons" had to be teased out of nonverbal buttons w/ little indication of their register function. The joiner GUI was missing the right side and the bottom which contained the requisite sites for registration and for operating the trial version. (I think they were actually hoping we'd buy the pos.) The mp3 extractor does not work at all. The converter failed to turn flv to mpeg1. The "slick" GUI interfaces look like they were designed by a truckstop retail designer. All around a shabby day for giveaway of the day.

I had same problem - All Media to MP3 installed fine on Vista 32 bit - the other two - error message on install and wouldn't run.

Downloaded fine
While running GAOTD setup program kept saying something like "cann not access - try again later"

After a computer re-boot - program installed with little difficulty. Used the licenses provided - all were accepted .....

However ..... In actual use - I tried to convert some video to AVI and to MPG. The results were both zero length files

Program didn't work at all (video converter, that is) making the combo useless

At that point all programs were un-installed

needs work ! ... sorry ....

Ok, this is what finally worked for me for the Video Joiner on Vista 32 bit:

1. Add Register server to DEP exceptions to get the program installed.
2. Add VideoCreator.exe to DEP exceptions to get the programs GUI displayed.

- What happens when I run it is as yet unknown.

Comments above about testing and validation apply. This really shouldn't be necessary on this sort of application, and begs the question as to whether it's worth the risk.

when a program fails to install cleanly, it makes me wonder if the rest of the code is just as sloppy.... it makes a terrible first impression, lol!

All 3 programs installed OK on XP, but Video converter & Video joiner close about 7 seconds after starting, with ModName: qedit.dll.

Video joiner also has a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error.

"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."

All installed on Vista x32,
Vista x64 is a different story. Kept getting registry catalogue errors during install, clicked to check problem (more times than I can count) and ended up with three working programs after much trouble.
Will not install/run on Linux

RE Video Converter:
To slightly modify what's stated up at the top of the list, it appears to support SOME MKV files, but not others. Not sure why since they each have the same video/audio stream types inside. Use *.* in the open box to bring them up in the list.
Funny, this has 720p and 1080p output, and higher HR resolution settings; but IS LIMITED TO 1024k video bitrate? Who's bright idea was that?

Other notes:
The interface is terrible. This really needs either tabs or a menu bar that we can use. If I wanted a Mac interface I'd use Apple software. I use windows because it DOESN'T look like that.

Lots of output formats. Lots of choices, only real issue is the bitrate setting are capped too low.

Looks like this is targeted for specific portable players, more than being a general use converter.

On the free end, VirtualDubMod http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=65889
and hundreds of plugins can do everything this does and more, with a limited learning curve.
Jodix has a free video to audio ripper, http://www.dvd-mp3.org/

For an easy to use Pay alternative, try Ultra Video Converter http://www.aone-media.com/videoconverter.htm ; still my favourite. And use with Jodix, for mp3 rips.
UVC is much more flexible in terms of settings as well.

Others suggest handbrake, worthy of mention but I'm no fan, so it's up to you on that.

All apps work fine on Win 7. They have a nice looking UI (actually three) and many good features. Too bad there are some nasty typos in the programs (poor translation), but the programs are good anyway. Thumbs up.

Downloaded and tried to install on Vista x64 and the install kept telling me that the "Microsoft Register Server has stopped working".
I was finally able to install it on a Vista 32 bit version after disabling DEP for regsrv32.

After messing around for a while I downloaded another version of the Aplus Video Suite and was able to install on Vista x64.

other than those problems, its seems a bit slow. I have recently been using a Nvidia CUDU based video converter.

I give up on Video Converter.

It will not install properly or run at all.

Windows XP SP3.

I already had the Joiner from the last time it was offered, and the other install did work and registered.

All three installed fine on my Windows 2000 and 2003 machines, but this is just one hassle after another.

This is not the firs time I've had trouble with their installers, either. They need to put the "install with elevated privileges" option in their installer.

Tried this on the laptop and had some minor installation issues. I have not had such with other offerings before. Although this program offers itself up as a video suite, it is really a converter and joiner at best. I do take issue with the lossless statement though. Run a few conversion from one format to another and you will loose quaility. I would think the developer should have said with as little loss as possible. But that doesn't sell. I rate the software as a download for $10 bucks but the name needs to change. Just my two cents.

O-k, This was slightly different install to the usual giveaway programs.

It installs to C:/VideoUtilitiesSuite

It that folder (On my XP machine) the three icons appear to install each of the programs (and all require the supplied key in the usual readme file on downloading)
All three work fine for me so far and no problems (Apart from one file I tried to convert was faulty to start with)

I quite liked this one...Well all three programs actually!

All I found confusing at first was the actual install, everything else works fine and desktop icons appear after installation of each program.
This will be really handy for Youtube videos (Especially the splitter)

Thank you GOTD.

This program just royally screwed up my computer during the installation problem. I got multiple errors indicating the Microsoft Register Server stoppped working, and that was obviously pretty essential to the functioning of the application, because it crashed every time I tried to open it.

I'm also very nervous about the fact that during the uninstall process it kept asking me if I wanted to remove a long list of DLLs that looked like they probably came from the program, but who knows for sure? I hope I chose wisely by removing them.

I like clean and simple. These programs could be much improved. There are free/open source programs a lot smoother, cleaner, lightweight and not buggy.

found this on their site:

Why I can't find Register buttion , and I just see part of the screen of Apus Video Jioner ?
please set Screen resolution to 1024*768 pixels and set the character sizing to the default of 96 dpi when you use "Aplus Video Joiner " maybe you used 120 dpi.. that will be solve the problem

i changed my setting from 1024x960 and 120 dpi to the above and got the whole start up page for the joiner. finally got it register!

These experiences keep making me happy I run XP3... All 3 installed fine as per instructions. Love GAOTD, but like others my inventory of installed video converters "overflows". And any good converter + an editor (got several) make the joiner... not critical to have. Still, Thank You... As we go along, "variety is the spice of life." (Let me attack my complaint: if I had time to be a gamer, GAOTD is fantastico above and beyond the other apps. Cheers!

Wish #92 had posted to back up earlier. Since have XP, figured would be able to use it so dl after reading all comments (at the time, to # 86). The MP3 converter installed and registered with no problems, but like other's comments, the joiner and vid converter generated errors: "gedit" and C+ runtime.

Had put into a folder by themselves but now find out that the previous GAOTD Aplus Joiner now also gives errors and needs to close when try to start it up.
Software concept is good, but install and problems get two thumbs down from me.

That's why like to have people mention software alternatives, especially freebie ones!

used this program n after reading the reviews i was a little reluctant.
but i managed to install all three programs and activate them.
But..and it is a big 1 for me especially.. not 1 of the programs recognises ANY of my MP4 files which are what most of my videos are so i can put on my ps3. i have never come across a program that does not recognise MP4 files and that was a downer. had to uninstall, a total waste and glad i did not pay a penny.

I have downloaded the trial version suite directly from their website. All 3 programs work well and registered correctly on Windows 7 RC.

I stated with the mp3 player it asked for a username, I simply typed in Giveawayoftheday and the registration code in the readme.txt and it went smoothly.

I then installed the Video Converter, entered the code, worked fine.

Lastly the Video Joiner, entered key , registered fine.

I suggest you users do the same, NICE programs.

I don't usually whine when there is junkware offered here, since it's free... but this one takes the cake. Not only did it NOT install properly on Vista64, it crashed my system so badly I had to hard-power off, then uninstall what I could, and then remove and unregister other files/folders one by one manually. An hour later, I'm back to a working machine.

Thanks for absolutely nothing A-"plus" AKA D-minus. This is about as amateurish as it gets. TWO HUGE THUMBS _DOWN_

Running XP PRO with SP3. Video Joiner & All Media to MP3 would not install correctly because the files the install program needed to replace in the System32 folder were protected. It was necessary to install these two programs in SAFE MODE so that those files could be overwritten and replaced. I SURE HOPE that the versions in this software are current otherwise other programs will no longer work and we have been screwed by APlus!
The converter program installed in normal mode effortlessly.

I don't like to have to keep my fingers crossed after installing new software. Hope this vendor knows what they are doing!

Assuming they do - - - these are attractive programs and a nice gift from APlus and GAOTD.
***Thanks***

Beware : they say that the supported OS for "Aplus Video Utilities Suite" are Windows 98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista
but it's not true > when you check out their pages you see that each program has it own features, which are
A+ All Media to MP3 : Windows 98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista
Aplus Video Joiner : Windows 98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/2003
A+ Video Converter : Windows 98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista

All depending of your PC OS version, the programs will work... or not... i.e. only 1 or 2 but not the other(s)...

Here is my experience... lots of problems that I was alone to have :

I downloaded AVU Suite > Unzipped package > launched the exe program on my 2008 Vista Home edition Premium 32 PC
> but there was a problem during installation... it went automatically on my second HD... instead of the C:\ folder
> so reinstall it again as administrator > put it manually on my main hard drive > this time... everything was fine
> but no icon on the desktop > eventually I uncovered that you've to check in Program files > VideoUtilitiesSuite.

Then you have to click on each program to launch the SetUp Wizard.... And again there were many problems...

A+All Media to MP3 > it failed to install on my desktop PC which has Vista Business 64 Service Pack 1
> so I tried on my portable with Windows Vista 32 Service Pack 2 (that I use for travel) > same problem
> so I used the compatibily features (right click on exe properties > choose XP mode)
> but both failed again > so I tried Windows 98 / ME/ 2000/ 2003 modes > got error messages
> put it on my previous PC with Windows 2003 > problem (maybe because it is not connected to Internet)
> my daughter tried it on her XP SP3 > installing was OK... but she couldn’t launch the program
> so I tried with my 5 years PC that has Windows 98 > same problem... and my wife was not happy...
> so I unstalled it...! and my daughter too...! the only thing I can say is that the uninstaller is working quick

Aplus Video Joiner > so I can not install it because I have Vista (does not work on 32, nor on 64)
> but I tried the compatibily features > same problem as above
> decided to try with my old portable with XP Service Pack 2 > registration was OK but another problem
> when I tried to open it... the program immediately shut down with send error report messages
> so I had to shut down the PC... and I unstalled it...! I did not try it on my 2003 PC (that I use as backup)
> again on my wife's PC (with Windows 98) > Microsoft server has stopped > error and error and error...
> my daughter tried it too : got an error when installing it on her HP portable with Windows XP Student
> laughting at us, my other daughter tried it on her XP Pro > 3 programs installed & registration was OK
> but when she clicks on the icon... Video Joiner does not respond... and she said I'm loosing her time

A+ Video Converter : works with Vista Home 32 > everything was fine... and the registration was OK too.
> on my brother NT PC the video converter run ok... but the 2 other programs are always crashing on execution
> on my friend PC with Vista business 64... there was error ‘Microsoft Register Server has stopped working’
> on my PC and my other daughter PC (XP SP3)... the RM button (last icon in the left panel) is not working
> tried converting DivX to MPG2 and failed > so I tried to convert it to MPG1 and stopped after 15 minutes...

To use Aplus Video Converter, you need to download
- Divx 5.x Codec for DivX MPEG-4 format file
- Xvid Codec for Xvid MPEG-4 format file
- Windows Media Format Runtime
- QuickTime Player to support MOV, QT
- RealPlayer to support RM or Install Real Alternative to Play realmedia files in Window Media Player

There is no help inside the program > when you click on the button a new windows opens with an ActiveX
On the output type (bottom left side of left panel), there is a misspelling > Quiktime with no ‘c’

All Media to MP3 > can not be installed on Vista 64, nor Vista 32, nor SP 1, nor SP 2 and doesnt work on XP SP3
Video Joiner > can not be installed on Vista, nor on Win 2003, nor on Win 98, and doesnt work on XP Student SP2
Video Converter > is working fine on vista 32 but not on Vista 64 > but if you need MKV convertion... forget it
As far as I'm concerned, this program is not worth $47.43... nor the time I spent... even for free!

All three programs installed and had no problem registering on Windows XP - SP3. I tried converting a DivX video to MPEG2. This took about 1/2 an hr, although the program indicated that it would take 1hr/45min. I then tried to play it back before burning it with Nero and like #55 all I got was gibberish. I will be uninstalling this program. It may be of interest to know that I went to the help menu and was directed to their web site help and under the heading How To Convert your movie it clearly states that OS Supported: Windows 98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/2003 and there is no mention of Vista as noted above.

I'm not trying to denigrate any of the good posters here, but thank you Mike for helping us cut through the fog to get a clearer idea what's going on. Also thanks xunrage for your useful addition and for everyone that's tried to be helpful.

Thought I'd post to try and clear up some well intentioned naivete. Especially from at least one veteran poster who really should know better. Why does GOTD offer a lot of the same type software? Because a lot of developers who are making similar software are approaching GOTD. Although they can control the rotation a little, do you really think that GOTD has unlimited choice of all the software in the world? They try to approach producers of all sorts of software, but they're not going to make money by turning down developers who want to use their services. Even if a lot of them make the same kind of software. Some developers just aren't smart enough to see the value of a project like this. And others wouldn't give away a penny to a starving child. I don't know, maybe you could start you own software site and get the most popular makers of software to give away their wares for free at the point of a gun!

I'm not trying to cricize people who are trying to give legitimate feedback. I'm just saying: let's try to make that feedback realistic.

The problems that were encountered in Vista are probably due to NCT libraries and codecs made around 2005 that the programs try to register. In Windows XP Professional SP3 all programs installed and registered ok. All the help files are simple html files stored locally. Anyway, the software seems old (according to window displayed before starting):
Aplus Video Joiner (Build Time: Jan 10 2006 12:00:00)
Aplus All Media to MP3 (Build Time: Jan 15 2006 12:00:00)
Aplus Video Converter Pro (Build Time: Jan 10 2006 12:00:00)
Windows Vista release date is Nov 30 2006. It's pretty obvious that the chance the software offered today is Vista compatible is very tiny.

RE: Program Installation & Totally FWIW, I find Universal Extractor extremely useful to find what files are included in a program's set-up file. If there is an .iss file with setup instructions it can be read in Notepad. It often won't work on the GOTD downloads, but usually there is a trial available that will work. Often the apps themselves will not need to be installed -- just rename and copy the program folder. Often files for the system folder are duplicates or have duplicate names, & can either skip them entirely or put the version coming with the program in the program folder. A free program called Regdrop comes in extremely handy for this sort of work, when you need to register a dll or ax or ocx file with Windows (if/when a program won't work properly otherwise) just drag & drop.

#88: "But what’s the point of offering programs like this almost on a daily basis, if you can use the FREEWARE and award-winning FORMAT FACTORY..."

Wellll.... some work for some things, some don't, & Format Factory is like most front ends [interfaces tying several backend programs together]... they may be Very Good, but nothing's perfect. ;-)

That said, I imagine the GOTD team has to consider the volume of downloads when deciding what's popular, & we have no idea what those stats are. Perhaps a simple download counter on this page would help, or at least prove interesting to visiters?

With basically 3 separate programs today, it makes sense to talk about them individually. Two of the 3 you might already have from earlier GOTD offers. All use the NCT code libraries that some folks have reported give them problems in Vista. Personally I've had good luck with Aplus apps, but as always, your mileage may vary.

Aplus Video Joiner:
Seems to be the same version if you picked it up earlier at GOTD. For the most part it works (it wouldn't let me use DivX 6.x), & lets you use codecs you already have on your PC, which is cool. I don't know that there's that much use for a Joiner/Converter, given the extreme amount of additional capabilities you get with a free video editor like Virtual Dub or Wax, but if you need one this works (on my PC at least).

This is definitely one of those programs where I strongly suggest backing up your system before installation. Set-up includes 96 files targeting Windows' System32 folder... included are (13) NCT*.dll files for media handling, (3) Microsoft C Runtime Library .dll files, an older Direct Show filter: mpgfiltr.ax, & a file used by the GUI called SkinCrafter.dll (all files that might already be there from other software). Potentially problematic, there's an old copy of lame_enc.dll (for mp3s), (2) older versions of files: atl.dll & gdiplus.dll, plus an RMBin folder with older files for Real Media handling. Files in the Windows folder (& sub-folders like System32), can take priority over newer versions stored in program folders -- in a nutshell installation could break other software you have installed. In the Aplus Video Joiner program folder itself, there are (5) files common to other software -- this isn't a problem by itself, but if you un-install this app, in some cases Windows may not know where to find copies of those files in other folders.

-----------

Aplus Video Converter:
Again this seems to be the same version as an earlier GOTD offer. Like the Video Joiner it lets you set the start & stop points for your video, but if I added more than 1 clip at a time, the 2nd clip showed finished but wasn't converted/encoded. Like many other converters it uses output format presets, though the Aplus Video Converter actually gives you quite a bit of flexibility & choice. If you need a converter, this one works & you could easily do worse.

This app has (6) files destined for the System32 folder -- the only one I'm really concerned about is an older version of: RealMediaSplitter.ax... the others are relatively common & shouldn't cause problems. Several apps use RealMediaSplitter.ax, & making an older version the Windows default is not cool. I'd suggest replacing it with the latest version.

------------

Aplus Media to MP3:
This is something I didn't have already, & other than today, didn't come up in the 1st couple of pages of Google hits for the GOTD site. This app's designed to convert the audio track in certain video formats to MP3, wav, wma, or ogg. It's cool that you get to set the in & out points, so you get just the section of audio you want. It's not cool that you don't get any output settings other than choosing 1 of those 4 formats.

Media to MP3 wants to put 20 files in Windows' System32 folder... most are the familiar NCT*.dll files, though there are 3 that aren't part of the usual batch. There are (2) older Microsoft files (runtime libraries) you probably already have, & (3) older files that potentially might cause problems... atl.dll, gdiplus.dll, & lame_enc.dll. The problem with lame_enc.dll is again you probably have newer already on your system, & probably in a program folder where it belongs -- atl.dll & gdiplus are old Windows files that might give Vista &/or 7 indigestion. Gdiplus.dll is also normally found in program &/or WinSxS folders, so applications can use the version they need, without messing up other software designed for something else.

Would not install in Vista Professional despite being installed as Administrator. Same issues as others.

Hi folks!!

Gosh!!! Another (video) CONVERTER?? Can't believe my eyes....LOL!!

Ok it's a nice application...

But what's the point of offering programs like this almost on a daily basis, if you can use the FREEWARE and award-winning FORMAT FACTORY which converts a video file to literally any video format, an audio file to literally any audio format, an image file to many different image formats as well as easily rip the audio from a video file and even rip (video and audio) DVD/CDs?????

Can't get the point...LOL!!

Does GAOTD TEAM read our messages and/or suggestions written in this forum on a daily basis?? I have some doubts about it!!!

Cheers from Italy!!

Giovanni!!

the program converter was made in 2006 when it starts off the start up page says so, so i GUESS it means vista is not truly supported? And gui is not good for windows xp and forget about windows 7 ( i know long shot to apply this software).Best is format factory but new version has Big ebay logo in the front so its irritating.plus format has joiner inbuilt for files.

If anyone from Aplus are reading this I would just like to bring to your attention, and everyone elses, an unfortunate spelling mistake in the title of this page on your website.
