Well, I don't use social media so I can't get this offer that way, so tried entering my email for a download link. Never got an email, when I try to enter email again it tells me the link has already been sent to my email and will not let me enter anything again.

Also, on the subject of Ashampoo and their aggressive advertising, I have a product that I bought from them, and every time my machine re-boots I get a pop up ad of theirs that is obviously embedded in my machine from installing the software. I've not found a way to disable this.

Surprisingly, nobody here mentions FREE (open source) ffDiaporama (http://ffdiaporama.tuxfamily.org/). Its latest stable release is 2.1 of Feb. 9, 2014. I've been a very happy user of ffDiaporama since its earlier versions throughout.
Go to their Web site and find the following description:
ffDiaporama is an application for creating video sequences consisting of

titles, fixed or animated
images or photos, fixed or animated
movie clips
music

These sequences are assembled into a slide show by means of transitions to produce complete videos.
It offers:

Reframing of images and photos
Cutting of video clips
Adding text, notes to images, photos, sequences and animations
Graphical filters on the images and the videos (conversion into black and white, dust removal, equalization of colors, etc.)
Creation of animation by zoom, rotation or Ken Burns Effect on images or photos
Correction of the images and the videos during animations (luminosity, contrast, gamma, colors, etc.)
Transitions between sequences with definition of the transition type, sequence by sequence.
Addition of a background sound (wav, mp3 or ogg) with customizable effects for volume, fade in/out and passage in pause, sequence by sequence.

And much, much more. I have also used (to a lesser extent) earlier versions of Ashampoo Slideshow Studio, but always produced more ambitious slideshows with ffDiaporama. IMO, Ashampoo Slideshow Studio is not so versatile as ffDiaporama. Best regards to all, GOTD, and Ashampoo.

Downloaded an hour ago and created a short show with music. I found the interface easy to use and relatively intuitive. I didin't use any of the wacky transitions but i know some people like them (blecch!) There may be problems I haven't yet encountered but for now I give this a thumbs up. It will allow me to produce some much needed photo videos for some special family events. There may be better s/w out there but this was so easy to get and use. Thanks to all the reviewers here.

Thanks to GOTD and Ashampoo.

BTW, registration and email responses were almost instantaneous so if you are having problems try again with a different email addy.

Freeware program IRFANVIEW can make a slide show and even include the proper "engine" for it - so you can burn it all to CD/DVD for showing at a Convention or other Display for a meeting or show. IRFANVIEW does not pester you with ads afterwards. No, I do not work for Irfanview.

First of all I would like to thank Ashampoo and GOTD for today's offer. I can understand that for the latter's Team it isn't always easy to bring here interesting software, day after day.

But I'm very much obliged to MikeR for his effort to explain some of the various slideshow programmes' (and their versions) mechanisms and complications. Ashampoo develops plenty of solid software but, despite being a German company, they're fond of creating confusion — not only in their marketing approach: It seems that Ashampoo does employ a large number of web site builders; nearly in each new visit of mine @ ashampoo.com I discover a new side-path! Anyway, let us proceed now to the all-positive:

I downloaded and installed today's version (after reading MikeR's comments). Although I knew that I wouldn't have enough time to test it, my mind kept flirting with the idea of trying out the "real" Ashampoo. Slideshow Studio HD 3. While installing the present "2015" version, there popped up the offer to upgrade to HD3 — for a price that in Euros it ‘reads’ 10% lower than the $ sign. I declined, and completed the installation. Then I became curious [mind the cat!], so I fished the deleted Ashampoo "Your Software Deals" icon/link out of my PC's Recycle Bin. To my surprise there it was, an offer I couldn't refuse: A 100 Eurocents off of the already heavily discounted offer! Who can blame me for taking my chances?

Personally I'd encourage you to go for the Real McCoy, if you are interested in trying to create a satisfactory Slideshow and you're willing to pay a bargain price. Just fade in & out of it (pun intended).

Personally I have no objection to liking a product in Facebook etc. To me it is a small price to pay for useful giveaway software.

What I do dislike is the more recent trend on many Giveaway sites of being requested to share products with friends on Facebook to download a giveaway.

My friends are not interested in being spammed about products, and for sure I would not do so! At least GOTD gives us an email download option, but many other Companies don't!

Re AShampoo - I have always found their products to be solid and reliable with very few bugs!

I like the product on FB if it is appropriate and my friends have the pro-choice opportunity! I do delete them a day or two after the offer here at GOTD for the obvious reason!

Been using Ashampoo products for years. I like them all. I was never bombarded by ads, and tech support was really good. In fact, they did some good turns for me, and I do make slideshows for youtube, so I'm going to get this and upgrade it probably, and when I do, I will expect the same quality that I have been receiving for the last dozen years.

I installed the the slideshow on Win 10 Pro without problem. It was painfree as I have an account with them. Like all software providers Ashampoo leverages their existance via their slaes and giveaways. Since I am a regular customer I have set my account preferences to my needs and do get offers via email I am not bothered by them. Ashampoo is easy! The real challenge comes from MS, Bing who would send you to mounds of bad choices if you searched for something simple like Acrobat Reader!

I have toured the world and made up a slide show with transitions for my friends. The program does work as is and if you need the HD Version just buy it!

Thanks Ashampoo and GOTD

I did install the program in Win8.1-64(rarely used).
I do have an account(special mail account for Ashampoo) and therefore I received the code on screen.
I loaded a few photo's, added some text and the result[7,6Mb]:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/AshampooSlideshowStudio2015_20150903/GOTD-1.wmv
A few screen-shot's form the video:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/AshampooSlideshowStudio2015_20150903/Video.png

Also made a video with high quality and that one failed; just 2 or 3 photo's will be seen[6Mb]:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/AshampooSlideshowStudio2015_20150903/Gotd-3.wmv

Another attempt with music went well[10Mb]:

the problem --
you have to connect to the host site --
the host site has to confirm your email -
then they sent the code through your valid email --

all this if fine if --
connectivity goes well on both server ..
if one server is down -- you get nothing in return ..

solution --
include the code with the download ...

Except the same logic you used applies to connectivity to the download server. ;)

THUMBS UP FOR THIS ONE. The 2015 sounds like an abbreviated version of HD 3 even so it is probably all most need. I have HD2 and HD3 (about the same). My comments are based on experience with HD 2 & 3

Four years ago, when I was doing low cost wedding for the young on a squeeze budget, I downloaded slide show trials of all I could find. Bought one just under $100... and like buying tires... the great deal came out afterwards... Ashampoo HD 2 ... Tried it, loved it, bought it. Yes, Photostory 3 with the addin mods was great, as was Shockwave.

Yes, I agree with #6 above, the bucket of transitions are not of my liking, but fade and page turn are fine. Oh, Lets not forget Ken Burns Effect. I also like the color-from-photo shaded edges, a neat thing not commonly found. The biggest difference was at the output disk burning end. The program has the ability to burn to a wide range of formats and quality (size). I emailed a scaled down show to a friend recently, no problem.

Is this a ploy to upgrade for $10? Sure, but HD3 is a bargain at $10, so try this and it may be enough, if not upgrade. Ashampoo has a lot of low cost programs that they will dump sell from time to time, SO?? Getting your forgotten license is very easy, downloading also. So I give this aggressive company Kudos.

ASS 2015 was automatically installed beside ASS 2013 given away here two years ago. Both versions were working but I got error messages when trying to open them simultaneously, so comparing them was a little bit difficult. (No changelog available as they are downsized versions obviously not sold by Ashampoo - $39.99 is the regular price of the full HD3 version we are strongly suggested to upgrade to). I just noticed new sound and text effects, but there might be other improvements. I uninstalled ASS 2013 (with Windows, not in-depth with Revo) and ASS 2015 keeps on working fine.

Still waiting for the reg key ... I've d/l today's GOTD (Ashampoo) prog. I d/l using my email address the same as is used with my Ashampoo account. Read the read me file, executed the set-up prog and when the installation starts up I've chosen the language (English), gone on to the next ('get free activation key') page, clicked on the link and ... nothing happens. I was really looking forward to using this prog. Also, it's unfair to criticise Ashampoo with claims that giving your email address results in loads of spam - Ashampoo gives you a decline option (and honours your request). Of course I've checked my bin & spam folders. Now, where's my key?

Krypteller, many thanks for the feedback. As I hope my post makes clear: " ... I’ve d/l today’s GOTD (Ashampoo) prog. I d/l using my email address the same as is used with my Ashampoo account. ...". Visiting my Ashampoo acct list keys successfully obtained, for previous GOTD progs, successfully. Today's reg'n procedure isn't working (as it always has before). It's a mystery.

Reply   |   Comment by York  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

I downloaded the program's zip file through email links, clicked on setup.exe, and started installation, before it would install, I need to get the key (registration code), so I clicked on the "get free key" link, it get me to the Ashampoo webpage (a little bit slow, maybe there's a net traffic jam). At that page, I logged in my email address and my password (I've registered before), the key was displayed on the same webpage.

So I believe something was wrong with your web browser or your internet connection. Try different web browser or test your connection, or try the "Is this site down or just me" service to see if you are blocked by someone....

Hope this helps.

Ashampoo does neither itself nor anyone else any favours by persisting with the conceit that it offers full-priced commercial products as giveways -- as here, where the resulting confusion is all too obvious.

Let's get one thing straight from the outset: there is no $39.99 Ashampoo Slideshow Studio 2015. What Ashampoo actually sells is Ashampoo Slideshow Studio HD3, which it mentions on this page as being priced at $39.00 and is thus cheaper -- or so it seems -- than the Ashampoo Slideshow Studio 2015 from which a $10.65 upgrade is possible. This must be pretty unique in the world of software marketing: a $10.65 upgrade offer from a product costing $39.99 to a product that costs 99 cents less. Go figure.

None of this would matter were it not for the fact that unless you understand something of the basic / required features of slideshow software, you won't have much clue that today's "free" $39.95 Ashampoo Slideshow Studio 2015 isn't anything like as functional as the real Ashampoo Slideshow Studio HD3.

Both are decked out with idiotic transitions (the inter-scene exploding / cartwheeling / spinning / eye- achers that you've never seen in your life in a movie and won't see anywhere except in the work of developers must never have been to a cinema in their lives and which are offered in abundance only because those effects are child's play to create.) But only one offers the key facility that a slideshow needs: the panning and zooming facility that brings an image alive. And that's the $39 Ashampoo Slideshow Studio HD3. Not today's giveaway.

Where, then, does that leave someone who really would like to create a slideshow which provides as near to a pleasurable cinematic experience as possible?

Obviously, she or he doesn't need 100 "transitions" any more than any movie director needs 'em: 90% are as silly as they're irritating, and though the occasional page fold-back or horizontal / vertical shuttering may enliven a home-made production, anything other than standard inter-scene "fades" is all that's necessary.

Both versions, therefore, offer "transitions" that are largely irrelevant -- but at least you can stick to your preferred one, or two, or maybe even three. As to The Ken Burns Effect, named after the American TV documentary director whose work has deservedly won worldwide acclaim for the way in which it rendered still images as motion picture frames, panning (left to right, or right to left) across a picture, and zooming (a slow close-up, a slow reverse), are there in Slideshow Studio HD3.

Candidly though, Ashampoo's motion control still isn't properly implemented. It's not alone: many a developer claims to offer motion control but few -- very, very few -- excel at it. The actual Gold Standard in making still images look like they're moving images was set by Microsoft Research as long ago as 2003 with its entirely free Photostory 3. It's still available today though be warned, it was created in an era before 16:9 widescreen monitors and TVs. . . and even before home DVD players. Not untypically with Microsoft, this superb product was never developed, and stands as a further example of the way the Redmond giant has wasted so much in the way of software talent and ingenuity (goodbye, Flight Simulator; hello, Windows 8.)

If you want to see how fast, simple, effective "keyframe" motion control is done, then download from Microsoft the Vista version of Photostory 3 (which will play well on Windows 7) or if you're pre-Vista, then get the edition appropriate to XP. Remember the above caveats though about Photostory 3's age-related limitations, and don't fall for the well-intended, though erroneous, advice you might get from elsewhere that Photostory 3 is the best slideshow software out there: yes, it was once, and yes, it still can be, but only if you know how to make it handle widescreen and how to burn its proprietary file format to a DVD.

If you don't want to go to the bother of playing with this Microsoft gem, then Ashampoo Slideshow Studio HD3 is worth downloading directly from Ashampoo itself and trying out. Personally, I find its motion control much too fussy I(and much too prescriptive) but if you find you can get on with it, then the $10.65 offer facilitated today by GOATD and Ashampoo is excellent value for money. You can of course "upgrade" directly from today's giveaway but forking out $10.65 for a product you've never actually tried ain't A Good Idea, nor would it be in the case of any product purchase.

Finally. . . as to the perennial subject of Ashampoo spam. I have a couple of Ashampoo products which work fine for me, and so I have an 'Ashampoo account' in relation to which Ashampoo often mails me genuine, heavily discounted offers that represent real value were I interested in having them. Ashampoo is a major league developer, not a one-man band, and its engineering pedigree is such that its Burning Studio software is very probably the best any average user could wish for: simplicity itself, and with commendable results. Do not, therefore, think you're dealing with what some people like to say is "a bunch of spammers". It isn't. My Ashampoo registration is in the name of an email address which isn't linked in any way to my desktop or mobile devices but is simply an online in-box I can check as and when. If I ever decide I don't want to hear from Ashampoo again, all that's necessary is to unsubscribe and simultaneously have gmail treat anything else Ashampoo might attempt to send as spam. Job done.

Verdict, then: today's giveaway is pretty much an up-sell device created by Ashampoo to lead potential customers to its actual slideshow program. That program may well suit many because it's fully featured and easy to use, though I'd counsel against buying it without trying it first. If you do like it, then today's effective asking price of $10.65 can be considered quite a bargain.

Thanks, then, GAOTD for facilitating this, and thanks, too, to Ashampoo -- though I really, really wish it would stop all this silliness in pretending that a non-existent product actually has a price tag, as is the case today, and has so often been the case with Ashampoo before.

@ Gerard VG: One question still .. Microsoft’s Photostory , can it run under Windows 8.1? We-ell. . . I don't have that particular OS, but think it should. Sorry to be a bit vague here. As to the Microsoft link, it's here for those who may be interested, beginning with the original XP version:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=11132

and here's the slightly tweaked 'updated' version which -- again, for reasons known only to Microsoft, which has done all it can to bury Photostory 3 -- never seems to get much publicity:

http://downloads.tomsguide.com/Photo-Story,0301-2480.html

You can also try Windows Moviemaker though it isn't as dedicated to slideshow production as was Photostory 3 and has been bedevilled by retrograde versions with a sub-par GUI that make it difficult to figure out which is the best one to go for (in this instance: Vista.)

For more information on the demise of Photostory 3:

http://features.en.softonic.com/what-happened-to-photo-story

To be honest, the acquisition via GAOTD today of Ashampoo's product at a discounted price of ten bucks and the acquisition of the entirely free Photostory 3 would be a nice package. And yes, Photostory 3 is still usable: my slideshows in widescreen and burned to DVD may take some finangling to achieve, but it's possible. For those without the time to spare though, then I could only recommend PS3 as a freebie that's worth looking at if only to become very quickly and very easily familiar with slideshow software creation of the highest calibre. Thanks for your kind post!

Once more Mike .. thanks a lot for that extra information on Photo Story .. Since we are into the slideshow issue today .. May I also suggest a .. in my opinion great tool for making cool slideshows .. Chinese .. does the job perfectly .. Mainly meant for embedding in websites and wordpress themes .. Hard to resist with lots of possibilities for personalization, captions, links, including of videos .. free with little branding or white labled at a price .. You'll find it at http://www.hislider.com/ And what's more .. resulting files are 90% smaller than comparable Ashampoo output .. Highly recommended .

This is a nice program. Easy to use. In a few minutes I had a test project made. Plenty of transition effects and the size was 22.7 MB for a 2:53 show. It's super easy to unsubscribe from the Ashampoo news letters. Simply log on to your account, select "settings", and then uncheck any news letters you do not wish to receive.
