As Karl mentioned, we had a version of this software previously. The version number of that October 2014 giveaway and today's are both the same (4.5), however, the 2014 version was advertised as a "Pro" version (also included in the 2014 download filename: MareewMediaRecoveryPro45.zip), and this one is not offered as a Pro version. In fact, Maarew does not list a Pro version of this software available on their website, so most likely this version is nearly the same as last years version (both advertised as $39). There are some size differences (this version's distributed setup file is smaller by a couple Meg). This could be due to cleanup in the program (Karl pointed out that the program was the same as a program offered by DiskInternals, which has the same physical mailing address as the Maarew company). Since the setup program reports that "the key cannot be decrypted," it might bring you comfort that you are not missing out on much by clicking on Karl's link to the version last year and read (or re-read) the comments. Seems to only scan for photos but I thought I would let it run on 'fast scan' and check it out. After a long time and still at 70% I gave up and uninstalled. I was looking for videos on a corrupt flash drive which I had formatted.

Thanks but no thanks, GOTD: there's little commercial future nowadays for one-trick-pony paid-for software that not only doesn't do anything better than freeware like Piriform's excellent Recuva, the prices being asked would get you an external backup drive to which free backup software will safely archive your stuff anyway.

Time is marching on, and no developer is immune from that, be it 'recovery' specialists (who thrived only because backup media was once so expensive), 'disk defragmenter' developers (who thrived only because hard drives were so much, much smaller than they are today), 'spam mail protection' specialists (who thrived only until folks figured out how to use server-side filtering before spam got anywhere near their desktop in-boxes) and 'registry cleaner' publishers (whose reason for existence ceased somewhere around the end of the last century.)

For this developer to be seeking (in the UK) the sum of £32.33 GBP -- including a highly dubious 20% VAT -- for software last updated more than two years ago is laughable; if Mareew wants a profitable tomorrow for itself, it needs to update its own understanding of today's marketplace, never mind its software.

Same here, cant install because 'the key cannot be decrypted'

As for krypteller's advice about try again, well I did try many times and it gave the same message every time and I dont have all day to keep trying it.

We had had a version Mareew Media Recovery Pro 4.5 on October 11, 2014. Here are the old reviews:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/mareew-media-recovery-pro-2-47/

This time I cannot install this software again:

So many software under different names, under different company trademarks - and under the hood exactly the same code - like today, the second hand shop from DiskInternals.
.
I trapped yesterday in such a case. Simply didn't know that doPDF and novaPDF are sharing the same code and the same company. One name for the "free market", the other name for paying customers. Since the PDF print driver did not generate a Softland directory in the program folder, I had no idea that this was the same version...

I would like to see, that the installers reports : "existing software/driver/product... detected. Do want you want to update/upgrade/replace ..."
Have a nice weekend! Keep care not be be tricked, too.

So many software under different names, under different company trademarks

It is known as product differentiation. Detergent A & Detergent B are the market leaders and both have their loyal consumer followers. Unknown to the consumers, both Detergent A & Detergent B belong to the same conglomerate.

It can be the private sector enterprise at work. The program code is like an engine. It is sold by the program coder to different companies to slap on their own User Interface and distinct brand name. Think Volkswagen Vento & Skoda Rapid.

As far as I can see, there are significant differences between doPDF and NovaPDF. See http://www.dopdf.com/compare

As in free version vs. paid version.
