It didn't work well for my testings. I tried to convert a local copy of http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4.pdf to DOC and RTF. I saw no tables, formattings, etc. Everything was messed up! :(

I'll stick with the freeware Hamster for my document conversions.

One of the few times I have been disappointed with GOTD software. To test, I tried converting two epubs to PDF. Failed miserably. No images on the first conversion. Second file was a 2 page pdf out of the original 600+ page epub doc. Really sad that this giveaway software did not work as advertised. Uninstalled it. Thanks for sharing though.

The best pdf creator program is Adobe Acrobat Pro. The best markup/modifier program for pdfs is PDF Annotator. The combination cannot be beat.
I suppose there are people who actually have no need for OCR; however, most people do not know what they are missing in not having it. A good OCR engine, such as Acrobat pro, can bring as close as possible to having a paper-free life. It also makes many of your record-keeping and editing chores a lot easier.
On the other hand, a pdf engine that produces a lot of typographical errors, can be worse than nothing.

I converted a 16 page pdf to multiple jpgs with no problem. It would however, not merge into one file. Photoimpact said it was too high. Paint stated it wasn't a valid bitmap.
For those who didn't know, there is the full portable version of Open Office under E:\Program Files (x86)\Icecream PDF Converter\oo\program, which includes all 5 modules. Just create your own shortcuts

There's a full copy of OpenOffice (PortableApps.com edition) included because this program is apparently using OpenOffice's builtin conversion abilities and it seems they couldn't be bothered to trim it down to just the parts they needed.

I needed a program to take a pdf that contained 130 pages that consisted of a 10 digit ID number, a name and a date and convert it to a txt file for import into a database program. This program worked perfectly for which I am grateful! And it didn't cost me anything. Many thanks to Ice Cream apps and GOTD for making this available!

Installed fine. However when i tried converting a pdf to doc, it did NOT convert the images\graphics; so i am uninstalling the program, it is of no use.

I also tried converting the PDF to HTML and it did not convert the images either; it inserted gobbledygook where the images should be... that is the only reason i would use this software, would be to convert from a pdf file (my only file option format that i get from my supplier) to html or doc..

Thanks, Karl, for the very helpful evaluation. I'm paying Adobe (the original creator of the PDF format) $10 per month for their CreatePDF online converter. Of course, it works flawlessly. I do a lot of PDF conversions in my business, so I need software that works without problems.
There seems to be a lot of junk out there, which is disappointing. One thing that many people do not realize is that a conversion program, even Adobe Acrobat, has a very limited number of fonts to convert to. Adobe Acrobat has their "standard 14 fonts," which is actually only five fonts, with three being text fonts (Times, Helvetica and Courier). If an original document uses a font different from these base fonts, the particular font must be embedded in the PDF during conversion. Otherwise, the PDF reader will not be able to recreate the document to match the original. When the particular font is not available, the PDF reader will use whatever font it has that is most equivalent. This often results in the PDF not matching the original document, with some text not fitting on the page, or being jumbled.
So, in many cases, it's an issue with embedding the font (if available) in the PDF during conversion. Sometimes, the original font is simply not available, such as when scanning a document with an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program. When using an OCR program to convert a printed page, such as a page from a printed book, to a digital document, some sacrifice of format or layout may be necessary.
Karl's test was a good one. One thing the Ice Cream program missed was the column separation. This caused the text from the left column to run into the text in the right column. Also, Ice Cream did not distinguish between the two different fonts used in the original, defaulting all text to Helvetica. And, it missed the diamond-shaped bullet points.
Karl, was this an OCR conversion? That would explain the atrocious results.
The producers make some pretty bold claims as to what this program is capable of. But, the proof is in the pudding (or ice cream). Sorry, but "Ice Cream" should probably be "I SCREAM" because that's what most users are going to do after they see what kind of results this program produces.

Converting to OCR is often the best method particularly regarding format, unfortunately the method used by this program is not particularly good.
I suggest you try it.

Quite often need to convert pdf drawings into jpgs, thought this might be a simpler alternative to current routes (paid for but very reasonable Serif Pageplus or free with Brother printer Paperport) so downloaded and started to install. However when it announced that it would need at least 334MB of disc space I quickly cancelled since that is larger than all the programmes I use regularly put together. Clearly not a lightweight alternative after all.

It is interesting that converting a PDF to an image or presenting it on screen offers no challenges whereas converting directly to a document format appears to be almost impossible.
This means that converting to an image and then doing an OCR of the image is the best route to convert into a document format.
The quality of the OCR program is the most important if this method is chosen and the Abbyy OCR is exceptionally good.
Abbyy OCR was given away with some of the Canon printers in the past and although it couldn't take in PDF directly converting it to an image using PDFfill Tools first made it a viable option.

Older versions of Abbyy OCR are also available quite cheaply and will give first-class results, well worth a look.

Thanks to Icecream Apps + GOTD.
A generous giveaway. (hint)
Easily installed and activated to Pro.
Tested it with a PDF document converted to HTML, JPG, PNG, TXT and DOC.
Result: Very Good.
You can select your preferred output folder and it remembers.
You can choose to have high quality image though medium quality is default.
You need to scroll down the list of output choices to see the DOC, TXT and others.
It supports drag + drop.
After conversion, you are given a choice to open the output folder.
Accuracy of conversion: It depends on the clarity of your source document.
One source PDF document with only text converted very accurately.
Another PDF with many images did not convert as well.

Just tried their pro version to convert a pdf form into a word (DOC) format hoping I can fill in the information and reconvert it back to pdf. My advice is: don't be bother with it, it is an absolute waste of time as it retain none of the format and only gave you lines and lines of words.

Bought the pro version after trialling it some months ago. Works on some PDFs and not others. Certainly won't do anything complicated with photos, text and graphics. You finish up with the usual dog's breakfast you get from PDF conversions to Word.

"...usual dog’s breakfast you get from PDF conversions to Word." I guess that sometimes you get what you pay for. I use Acrobat XI Pro and get flawless conversions from PDF to Word. I realize that not everybody has the need I do to do frequent conversions and frequent edits to PDFs so the price of Acrobat Pro XI would be a serious deterrent for the occasional user, however, if your livelihood depends on it, Acrobat Pro XI is well worth the price and less expensive in terms of time wasted and Rolaids consumed than the free or "cheap" PDF converters.

I don't think I ever converted a PDF to JPEG or the other way round, but I inserted JPEGs into PDF documents, and converted PDF to epub or mobi with Calibre http://calibre-ebook.com/download free and Open Source Software. Sourceforge.net is stuffed to the full with converters and all are free with source code. IceCream PDF Converter PRO is not a gap-filler in regards of conversion software (too many free software tools are out there doing the job).
cheers for now

I converted a .mobi to pdf with it and it came out okay, so I'll keep it.

I've used Calibre and like the program. However the epub to pdf is just ok and blows up the page numbers and messes up some parts of the document.

I get a lot of PDF's and need to get the pictures out of them. Other people, different needed tasks.
Also I love Calibre and tried many free ebook converters (from PDF or DOCX to epub or mobi) but wasn't able to get really good results with any one of them.

This is an honest ethical company, I have used a number of their programs, Also I seldom give a company feed back unless I am VERY impressed, I contacted them and got an almost immediate response, great support from an honest company, and no I do not work for them!

A developer producing excellent software can be honest and ethical. But so, too, can a developer producing junk. Comparing the performance of IceCream's program with Abby as Karl has so helpfully done and it's obvious that in this case, the corporate integrity you're applauding and the coding competence Karl is criticising bear no relation to each other. One is apples, t'other is oranges.

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system. A clean install.
A company without name and address:
"Recently we’ve reached a milestone of 10,000 likes on Facebook. And we decided to give our users more information about our development process in numbers. Have a look at today's infographic in our Tech Digest. "

This doesn't give any real information (true facts) about, who they are or the development process...
PDF converter is a difficult field and PDF to ePub even more. They compete with a "Abby PDF transformer" and that's a tough task.
Upon start a small, modern looking, not resizable window opens. You select the PDF to ... or the ... to PDF branch.
The OCR is done with Tesseract, surely the best free OCR software at this moment. Best "free"!, not the best, tesseract cannot compete with ABBY.
I selected a PDF, and ooops, there is no conversion to ePub.

I consider this as a good sign, they do not try, where they will fail.
Okay, I converted this book to OTF. The conversion takes quite I long time, the result is. Look at yourself:
http://i.imgur.com/dod7mA9.png
This is the result of the Abby program. Much, much faster:
http://i.imgur.com/BGwXnX2.png
It IS the same input and the same OTF output. You see??? Unbelievable!
The program may be useful for very simple tasks, fails completely to do something more specific. Okay, it's a version 1.47 of a young company. But a long, long way to a working program. I hope they will succeed. Instead of concentration on "Likes" they should go into the coding section.
Uninstalled via reboot.

Although Abbyy (there's two Ys in case anyone is searching for it) is about 5x the price of Ice Cream Pro (which is free here), so perhaps a lot of people might not consider it at all (you'd have to have a lot of pdf work to do). Also is OCR a big requirement for everybody?

Abbyy PDf Transformer+ was given away for free in december at another giveaway (at some christmas calender I believe). I really like it, still it can't do everything I need so I'm also using Aimersoft PDF Converter from a giveaway from this site. That would usually be enough, sadly Aimersoft can't handle all PDFs correctly so at the moment I'm still stuck with an older version of Adobe Acrobat Home. But I'm hoping I can replace it someday.

"Also is OCR a big requirement for everybody?"
If it was there would be more OCR software in the marketplace -- there used to be much more choice & competition. HP developed Tesseract, & released it as open source about a decade after they stopped developing it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesseract_(software)
"It seems difficult to find a good pdf program thsse days"
It depends on what you're after. There is a lot of software that does a good to great job creating PDFs. When you're looking at converters & such, remember that one of the main reasons PDF exists is to protect content, to make it difficult for anyone to get that content out & re-use it. Look at it that way & many companies like Icecream do a reasonable to good job.

This is a company that offers a lot of document and media related programs. Check out this link for a partial listing...

As for today's program, it has a free and a Pro version. You can find the differences here...

All in all this looks like a nice program. Of course the most important aspect for any pdf converter is the accuracy of the conversion and how well it maintains the form of the document. I don't use pdf everyday as I am an average home user but I do have a need for this. I will be happy to check it out. Thank you GOTD team and Icecream Apps.
