Process Lasso is a process priority optimization and system automation utility. Although Lasso offers a plethora of advanced rules and features, you need not be a tech whiz to use it. As soon as you install Lasso, without any further action, it's ProBalance technology will immediately start restraining CPU hogs to help your PC retain responsiveness during high CPU loads.

Process Lasso's most popular feature is the unique process optimization technology called ProBalance (Process Balance) that will improve your PC's responsiveness and stability through process priority optimization and/or CPU affinity adjustments. In addition to ProBalance, there are countless features allowing the user to take full automated control of the processes on their PC. You can have a wide range operations performed, or settings applied, each time a process is run.

What's New:Gaming Mode has been improved to include a pre-customized power plan for maximal performance. Right out of the box, it can even enter Gaming Mode when you play any Steam game.

Hello all you thumb uppers and downers. I can't imagine why 183 of you decided to give a thumbs down? I've been using Process Lasso since Win98 SE and I don't have any complaints. Sadly some of you will always see the glass as half empty.

My thanks to Jeremy Collake over @ Bitsum for the generous gift.

Sorry for coming late to the party, but I've had such good results with PL, I just had to comment and show Jeremy my support. I've been using GaotD for years and this is the first time I've ever posted a review.

I first installed PL, a year or two ago, on an old single-core 32bit XP machine that was overly taxed and had only 2GB RAM. This machine was very highly tweaked (lack of a budget can make a person very resourceful) and I always limited my system tasks. I ran Android and C++ IDEs and also played a couple MMOs (never, of course, at the same time). I had the computer performing better than many of my friends' "modern" machines, but it did take a long time to accomplish other operations when attempting to multitasking. There was a complete lack of responsiveness.

I knew nothing could speed my machine up, that was a given, but I was tired of waiting when I wanted to run a quick utility with a separate process in the background. I installed PL with a lot of hesitance and doubt.

The results were nothing short of miraculous! Don't get me wrong, I couldn't suddenly run everything at once (which I never do anyway), but I could move my mouse again when compiling and I could finally pop back to the desktop and run my browser when in my MMO. I was sold and immediately purchased a 5 computer license, even though I only had one working computer at the time.

I've since replaced that old XP with a nice 64bit quad-core (my wife uses the XP for photography now and it still works like a champ, with much credit going to PL) and I've also added a could laptops to the mix (I repaired an old XP laptop that has the exact same setup as my XP desktop, including a Pentium D processor, and I recently obtained a nice quad-core laptop as well).

When I setup these new systems, I installed PL with complete confidence. My quad-core rarely has a response problem, but when it does (I run the same programs I ran on the XP, but with much better results), PL performs its job flawlessly.

I couldn't imagine any of my systems without PL and I fully endorse it. Even if I no longer constantly need the responsiveness boost, PL's other functions makes it worth having.

Dear Jeremy,

Thanks for Your reply
(#48)
You've been busy reading and replying where applicable, & it's really great too see a Vendor who responds to comments made by members of the public, during promotions on GaOTD.
____________________

Now to matters about the Windows Home Server:

My apologies for not replying sooner (like: before the promotion expired!), as it's been a loooong day of manual labor.

Obviously I didn't look hard enough on your website for a link to the WHS product page.

I DO 100% PROMISE there is NO Commercial Activities, we DO NOT even have any sort of web-site jut many years of personal information, web-browsing etc.

I suppose it can't hurt to ask YOU:

..........Is there any Deal with the Home Server version? (like Your GENEROUS Deal today on Single=$9.95 or 5xPC=$14.95 workstations)

Anything would be welcome ... Even a $1 or 2, would help as the family costs never seem to stop.

I'll wait 24 hours for any reply you may make (I presume You can see my email address) and then I'll make my purchase

Cheers for that

Hi Everyone,
Sorry my revues are sometimes late but I am a night owl!! What can I say! (o; I installed Process Lasso Pro 7.6 on my "play" PC with an AMD FX Black Edition 6 core CPU running at 3.4GHz on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Mo-Bo Rev. 4.0 with 16GB RAM, Running Windows 7 64Bit! With NO Problems what so ever! I have been using LP for years! On my two main PCs this one! And an older HP Laptop Pavilion DV9000 that I decided to save and upgrade rather then spending lots of money on a new one! (I am retired and on a fixed income! enough said!) I dumped the Centrino Duo core and replaced it with a full Duo core Intel 2.4 GHz CPU, And upgraded to faster RAM from 2GBs to 4GB's. I then Got rid of Vista! And upgraded to Windows 7 32bit! The last thing I did was to upgrade the HDDs, It has 2 of them, So, Drive 2 I put a SATA 1TB for storage and an SSD 124GB Drive for OS! It boots up, Ready to use in less then 35 seconds! And keeps up with most newer lap-tops! So, I saved a lot of money! And still have a very fast Lap-Top! (o; I have been running Process Lasso Pro on this Lap-top for years as well! There where times when I thought that PL was causing some problems on my PCs in the past and I would disable PL only to find there was an offending driver? Or, Software and NOT! PL! So, I would remove the problem and run the PC for a while and then! Re-activate PL! And in every case my PC ran more stable and if something did act up I could bring up the PL window and see what was going on! Read the log files if necessary to resolve the problem! I love PL And will continue to use it for years to come!
I love windows 7 in its ability to correct its self when something goes wrong! Its got an XP on steroids feeling to me! I love XP and continue to run it on my other PCs and server! I plan to start running PL on them as well! I have no use for Vista! and I really do not care for Windows 8! Personal preference! I hate touchscreens! My fingers do not work on touchscreens and I do not care for plastic pointers ether! I want and need a Keyboard and a Mouse! (o; Cant even get new smart phones with a slide out keyboard any more! So, I guess I'll be downgrading to a regular Flip phone with NO Texting! Or, Internet in the near future! LOL! I cant use internet! Or, Texting while I'm out and about anyway! You, young pups can do all that (Except I pray while driving) You grew up in this touch world! LOL! I started with Artie and an 8088 @ 4.2 GHz! (o;
Enough about my life etc. But, I wanted to note that I installed Process Lasso Pro 7.6 over my old version from GOTD, Version 6.8, And was very surprised to see that I did not have to register the new version!! It took my last registered ID and put it into this version 7.6 and I was done! I did NOT have to re-Register! Thank you! Jeremy Collake! and Bitsum Technologies!
I have used PL for many years as I said, So, this time I decided to take advantage of the FULL, Lifetime Family Registration Offered today along with this GOTD! And I was very happy to be able to do that! Thank You! Again!
For me, Process Lasso Pro 7.6 and Jeremy Collake! and Bitsum Technologies! Gets 2 Thumbs UP! I would definitely get this during the GOTD offering to try it out your self! Or, If you missed it? Get the Trial Version and test it out and see what you think? For me it is! And Will be a Keeper! And Of course Spacial Thanks to everyone at GOTD For all the work you do to bring us geeks programs and utilities to Test, Revue, Play With. and keep for as long as we like for FREE! Every Day! Thank you!
To Everyone Happy New Year!!! Take Care, Always Have FUN!!! Rick D.

I have been using the free and GOTD versions of Process Lasso on multiple computers for quite a while now, and have been very happy with the way they sped up my machines made them run smoothly. I'm going to skip this (free) GOTD offering and go straight for the (paid) five-user license. For me, it's a no-brainer.

That said, I would like to make a few comments on today's GOTD discussion:

1. I think that today's discussion sets the bar for on-point, useful comments. It is, by far, the best discussion I have seen on GOTD.

2. I want to repeat and strongly endorse the following comments:

"Great Program. Jeremy Collake a genius to be sure!" (Harold)

"I really appreciate that you are taking the time to read and respond to all the questions and comments." (Dan)

And, especially:

"I want to thank Jeremy Collake for his patient involvement to our discussion. How wonderful would be the computer world, if every software provider felt so responsible for his product!!!" (Marek)

I think that Jeremy has set the standard, technically, professionally, and personally, that all GOTD developers should aspire to.

(How often have you heard a developer repeatedly stress the fact that his product "Does not speed up your computer"? :-)

Thanks, Jeremy, GOTD, and all the participants in today's discussion.

Okay, Mr.Jeremy Collake, i want to ask you some things, my cpu is pentium 4 with processor 2.4Ghz and 1GB of RAM. How do i limit cpu resource not to exceed n% of all running task? This is my situation, i run mozilla firefox and play game 8 ball pool on facebook, i see at process lasso's tray icon and it shows 100% cpu usage. How do i limit firefox's cpu usage (flash games etc.) to any percentage i desire? At the same time i want to play game Plant & Zombies (it is offline game). If i run both, the result is lagging on 8 ball pool game even more the game lost connection to the server and i have to lose some coins although the game is in play. I really appreciate your answer and your hardwork on ProcessLasso.

I almost didn't download this software. I have a new computer with tons of memory running Win 8.1 and couldn't see how it would be of any help. After reading Jeremy Collake's comments I dug out my old Win 7 computer that freezes, stops and starts and chokes on Firefox (which just keeps expanding as a resource hog unless I turn it off and on every few hours.) I've installed Process Lasso and played with it for about half an hour. Everything ran as smooth as silk, no freezes, the mouse ran smoothly and I was very pleased.
I know that doesn't seem like a long trial period but before installation my computer scrolling and mousing would have frozen for 15 to 20 seconds quite a few times in that half hour. It certainly looks like a fine piece of software to me.
My only question is, do I minimize the program to the taskbar or will it keep running in the background if I X it shut?

I grabbed this program the last time it was offered. I tried it out and found that I did have slow down issues and a few freezes when it was running. I still use the program as a very nice process explorer/task mamager replacement, but I do not use it on a regular basis, for I know how to optimize my system for my various profiles - example for gaming, surfing, heavy cpu using programs. May be a solution on an older machine, but not on mine.

Nothing personal, not a hater, like Jeremy wants to classify us who do not see any improvement with his program.

Hey Jeremy, there are some of us out her who know how to utilize our machines without your program. Just because we don't like your program, and so far I have not seen any comments disparaging you or your program, keep the hater comments to yourself, and realize that there are people out here who know what they are talking about and have used your program, and its various versions, and have found no improvement in cpu optimization.

Don't take it personally, son, but sometimes programs do not work on some peoples rigs, due to the way they set them up and do regular maintenance on their rigs, and having knowledge of cpu's, motherboards, ram, etc.

I've been pleased with this software since Win2k Pro and use it on WinXP systems now with good effect. Moreso, when I had problems getting newer versions of PL to run on some old Win2k machines after reinstalls, I emailed Jeremy and he readily provided me with solutions. If some systems don't benefit, then don't use it. But nothing to lose in trying it out with the recurring presentations here and the support is excellent. Thank you, Jeremy, and thank you GotD!

Thanks, Jeremy, for this clarifying statement :

"Users: Do NOT tweak process settings unless you know what you are doing. ProBalance has been tuned for years. It knows what it is doing."

I downloaded one of your earliest versions a couple of years ago. If that bit of advice had been anywhere prominent, I know I'd have seen it and heeded it's words.

As it happens, it wasn't. And so, not finding any advice, I assumed WE were to decide, ourselves, on what "tweaking" should be done.

At this point, I am not sure my "tweaking" helped or was appropriate. So I ask this question:
Is there any way I can "undo" my tweaking so as to let Process Lasso return to its former state, where it can automatically perform what is necessary?

I ask this because "something" is causing a jerkiness and twitching whenever I view my videos. I have no reason to believe it is Process Lasso, but I would like to "undo" whatever changes I made, just to see if that may help.

Thanks for your responsiveness to our questions. I am sure you are trying to be helpful, as you have been from the very first.

Thanks to Bitsum Technologies + GOTD.
Uninstalled old version 7.1_given away by GOTD on 7 Nov 14.
Although it has been stated here in the forum comments that one could "update" an existing installed Process Lasso to the latest; I prefer to do a fresh install of new version while keeping the old configuration and log files.
Installed new version 7.6 and activated easily.

I do not allow loading of Process Lasso with Windows Log-on.
Prefer to use it when I need to. Run the program manually.
As I understand it, Process Lasso is not meant to "speed up" your PC.
Although that may be a side-effect of what it does.
I presume Process Lasso acts as a process facilitator in the PC, minimising chances of slow-downs and crashes.

Process Lasso runs in XP Pro + Avast (Free) Antivirus without any problems. There is no software incompatibility discovered so far with other software in my PC.

Update:

The activation message that occurs during install and arrival at Bitsum website is a bit misleading. The address in the readme.txt still needs to be copied out and manually entered in one's web browser, and the form filled out there. Activation code arrives in email as a result.

So, it's now activated.

Unzipped, ran setup.exe, installed, browser automatically went to Bitsum website page that says the software is activated.

Help menu shows option for "Activate this Software". About Process Lasso shows running "Process Lasso Free v7.6 x64", and has a selection for "Enter Activation Code".

Activation looks to have failed.

For those saying that Process Lasso crashes on them when opening the program, I have a possible cause. I found that my anti-virus program, Avast, was causing PL to crash when I had the Avast "enabled hardened mode" turned on. Disabling that option cured the problem. Software incompatibility. So perhaps it's your antivirus program or some other program causing Process Lasso (PL) to have hic-ups. I since use Panda for my antivirus program, and it works perfectly alongside Process Lasso. As an aside, I use Windows XP SP3 (old, I know), 4gigs ram, 3Ghz Intel duo core. My experience with Process Lasso has been very positive. PL really helps manage the operating system better, especially when I'm running programs that would otherwise hog CPU cycles such that other programs would get laggy. With Process Lasso, my computer runs much smother and balanced. Based on my experience with Process Lasso, I'd highly recommend it and I thank Jeremy for this give away, and for his continued hard work and support for this (and other) great programs of his... thanks :)

FYI: I have used Avast along side PL For years with NO Problems at all? I do not use Avast in Hard mode as it slows things down! Avast works very well and has stopped any and all viruses to date, Or, Questionable software from running with out using hardened mode! I would turn it OFF! And see if it resolves the problem? Then contact PL Support and see what they can do about the problem? May be just a setting in PL that is having a problem with Avast in Hardened mode? It is probably an easy fix? I hope? (O: Good luck, Rick D.

I have WinXP32 sp3. ProcessLasso is a good program but I tend to use it as a Program Manager/monitor. I also use "Process explorer" from System Internal. You can get the full suite from Microsoft here:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062.aspx

OR better still get "Nir Launcher" which bundles into a portable app and more:

Thank you GAOTD and Bitsum. I had ProcessLasso a while ago on my XP and loved it. My XP died & took everything with it. I also downloaded it the last time GAOTD offered it, but my demon possessed Windows 7 ate it, or something took it. I am praying that ProcessLasso will be the exorcist so I can keep it this time and keep my Windows 7 from eating games I'm playing, or deleting internet pages I'm reading. Thank you again!

This is an awesome program. It tells me and it helps find cpu hogs, memory bleeders, programs that keep popping up for unknown reasons, even found a spyware before my spyware found it and many more things.

Yes, I have a powerful i-4770k intel with 16 GB of ram and Lasso is still invaluable. Did have one forgotten problem once and support responded promptly and had a fix release a few years back. It you have any form of nerditis then you KNOW how valuable this program is.

ALL my pc's have the free version BUT I paid for my main pc to have it all!

Thanks LASSO and do not stop R&D.

#46 said "I don’t know if it was already mentioned here:
If you have an existing installation of Process Lasso, you can use the built in update function to upgrade to this new version! Very nice!"

Really? I thought updating any GOTD program was a big no-no because you would lose your license/registration and it would revert to a trial version. I've never dared update any installed GOTD program because I feel like I've read warnings against doing that more times than I can count.

Process Lasso would be a rarity if upgrading to the full version was allowed with any previously installed GOTD version and you don't lose the full version. I have an older 6.7.0.52 version installed, and it would be a lot easier to hit the update button than go through all the work of getting new license keys and uninstalling/reinstalling if this is in fact allowed.

Someone please confirm if #46 is correct. (Hopefully this comment will appear before this GOTD is over.)

I have a Toshiba Laptop L850 16H. It's got a Intel i7 3rd generation processor and 8G ram. I've been using Processlasso for years too. A little while ago I purchased age of empires 3 and had to reinstall it because Paragons partition manager formatted my hd. When I switch between programs, especially aoe3 I noticed it was slower than usual, because I didn't have process lasso on my computer and didn't know why my computer was less responsive. Then GOTD gave processlasso away and of course I installed it and immediately noticed the difference in speed when I had to open another program while playing, especially google chrome, because of all the extensions. Karl is right when he says that he uses it as a task manager, so do I, expecially when my computer is doing a few things all at the same time.
IF YOU WANT TO SPEED UP YOUR COMPUTER! BUY A NEW ONE WITH A BETTER PROCESSOR AND A SSD.

Tanks Jeremy for you help in answering a few of the other peoples questions. You've answered a few of mine.

   Hello,
Process Lasso works on my desktops Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 and Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit with Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz processor, where these OSes in the last months/years had light slow times during application loadings and executions, and is reporting always 100 % reactiveness value.

I give my salutations to Mr Jeremy Collake for its clearance and competence on these comment pages, and also to everyone has posted reporting feedbacks.

Now, using Process Lasso by Giveaway Of The Day, it is offered by the registration E-Mail the 9,95 $ license price for one single PC and 14,95 $ for home 5 PCs:
since I have indeed one single PC using in multiboot one at time of three single hard disks, which two have on installed indeed Windows 8.1 and the third has Windows 7, should I purchase the 9,95 $ license or the 14,95 $ one and how could I do it ?

Greetings, Thanks and Happy Holidays from Italy

I have an ACER ASPIRE 5733Z-4851 w/Intel P6100 4GB DDR3 Memory. I have no malware, spyware, viruses, rootkits, etc. I use Internet Explorer 9 (IE9). In have IE9 set to delete browsing history on exit. Probalance enabled. I set IE9's priority to the highest. I then use IE9 to stream some videos. When I exit from IE9, it will freeze up with the Windows 'hourglass' showing, forcing me to hold the power button in to shutdown/restart and giving me the Windows screen telling me Windows did not shut down properly. I choose to start Windows normally and everything is fine, until I open IE9 again. Is this because IE9 is an older browser?

To Jeremy Collake:

I truly see value in this program for situations where there are a lot of processes executing in the background on a system that needs fewer running. I like the fact this program can be set up to terminate specific processes, and to lower priorities the way I want for some processes. I installed the 7.1 version on a previous offering, but the program would run for several minutes then disappear. The most it would run would be around 10 or 15 minutes. I looked at the Support Forums and see this program had this same issue back in 2009, and I had hoped that there was an explanation or simple fix, but could find none. I checked the log and see only that the program stops after a variety of other things start that can cause it to quit. One seemed to be the Index service, which when it kicked off, Process Lasso would disappear. Process Lasso cannot be restarted because part of it is still running. I tried having the program restart itself automatically but that failed with a repeated start/die situation. I tried the processgovenor.exe and the ProcessLassoLauncher.exe, so that is not the solution. I also found that selecting a command in the Process Lasso File menu or even View menu could cause the program to disappear. From what I can tell, the extra processing to perform those tasks somehow causes the program to lose its entry off of the task bar (disappear). I had hoped that the 7.6 version would be different but it has the same issue. I am very interested in the program but only if it will continue to execute. Is there anything I can provide to help isolate the problem?

I've used this program for years and have always been impressed by it; finally bought the lifetime license after the last GOTD offering.

I think many of its detractors expect the program to do something it doesn't, nor has ever claimed to do. It will not speed up your system, it will not emulate more RAM, it is not a magic wand for an old system. It does make a system run more smoothly. In many games, such as MS FlightSim, it has virtually eliminated those irritating stutters caused by some background process deciding it needs half the cpu for a few milliseconds.

Perhaps if you have a system capable of simultaneously streaming HD video to your 60" TV, ripping and converting two DVDs to avi, running two alternate OS in VMs, playing FSX on a second monitor and ETS2 on a third, uploading two torrents and downloading three, while having a skype conference with a dozen friends, you may never notice any improvement from using Process Lasso. But for us mere mortals it makes a difference.

> "Every action Lasso takes is logged"

Collake, noticed that if only "ProcessGovernor.exe" is working, the log is not made. It only log with "ProcessLasso.exe" working.
Since I don't want GUI working, it is easy to add such feature (log with "ProcessGovernor.exe") with in future?

Considering various opinions, it seems clear to me that the suitability of PL depends not only on the system and machine on which it is installed, but also on the user’s capability of understanding what this software is all about and for, and how to set it to help the computer experience. Well, we seem to be living in the era when "one click" is supposed to make miraclous and PL seems definitely not for those who believe in "one-click" philosophy.

PL has one, quite unique feature: the software "predicts" "silly" consepts of the user and warns him/her about possible consequences of improper setting of PL and advises proper configuration (an example of which may be the initial setting of and warnings related to how the software starts).

That’s why it is worth to spend sometime on studing the PL learning curve (which may seem steepy) in order to use all potentials of the software. Without such "lesson taken" the software may indeed seem a useless "add-on".

I want to thank Jeremy Collake for his patient involvement to our discussion. How wonderful would be the computer world, if every software provider felt so responsible for his product!!!

My intent is the inverse of Jeremy's main purpose for marketing Process Lasso. I process a lot of HD video, using Corel VideoStudio, and I don't want the other 88 processes showing in Task Manager doing anything until video processing is completed. So I set priority to "Real Time" for VideoStudio. If I'm deluding myself, please don't burst my bubble, because it makes me happy to glance at my Windows 7 Pro CPU/RAM Gadget and see that my 3.5 GHz, 4-core CPU is running at up to 99% while I'm waiting.

I don't know if it was already mentioned here:
If you have an existing installation of Process Lasso, you can use the built in update function to upgrade to this new version! Very nice!

Process management as it should have been in the first place! This is one of my favorite softwares and I'd register as soon as it was offered for sale.

As Karl points out, it is correct that you usually don’t have any huge effect on a new machine and no machine will become quicker from installing a software, we agree thus far.
As I see it, making your machine run faster is not the Idea behind Process Lasso, stability and responsiveness is! I install it on new machines because it helps behind the scene saving me from the not so funny experience of a stalled machine.
Process Lasso needs to be tweaked to fit your system and I believe incapacaty to configure the program is the source of most negative feedback. I have it installed on 3 computers at the moment and because they have different hardware, none of them runs the same Process Lasso configuration.
The benefit is of course three machines which runs stable for weeks with no need for a restart apart from my scheduled ones.
Just for the record, the oldest machine is indeed the one which benefits most from the installation as it does not become slow after a few minutes/hous which is typical for older machines with a resource restraint (4GB Max RAM in this case).

I'll continue by mostly repeating my feedback from the last time it was offered through giveawayoftheday.com (November 7th).

When configuring, be cautious and don’t overdo it! You can tweak a program in every way you wish, just highlight the line with the process you need to tune, right-click and you’ll see a meny with every tweak possible starting with priority at the top. Most choices has two submenus. “Current” and “Always” – The first means this session only and always… (you guessed it, but be sure before using it)
You are able to set a process from even “realtime” all the way down to “Idle” priority, but keep in mind that Microsoft advise against using any setting other than “Above Normal” and “Below Normal” as it could make your system unstable.
I have had once or twice when working with sound that I have used “Realtime” for a short time to make sure latency didn’t screw it up yet another time (I did not use the machine for anything else while the task ran).

Ever had a process that you need to run that has a habit of hogging your processor? the next choice is for you “CPU Affinity”. start the process and highligt the line for it in process lasso. Right-click, Choose “CPU Affinity” and “Always”. Depending on how many cores you have, you could click so that only ie only CPU core 2 is selected and that was the end of that hogging experience. (make sure that the process gets a real core and not a hyperthread which is no core at all).

I’m not going through all choices available, but one more must be noted – “Terminate Always” – Before you highlight a process and click, know what the program really does besides being annoying before rushing to the option. “Terminate” is a way better choice if you don’t know. You could be “always terminating” a crucial windows process therby getting a free ticket to the situation where you “feel” that re-install is your only option. For the record, it is not.

The bottom line is that you have a very advanced program at hand that grants you the right to decide yourself, one which have made my installation just as stable as any Microsofts server operating system. It will for you too if you follow this simple guide-line: knowledge first, execution next.

Two divergences opinios about it.. well, both are true because new PL versions are disastrous.
The solution is to use the last good working one, the "6.6.0.56".
Or in alternative "AnVir Task Manager" (activating "Balance CPU Utilization" in "Tools » Options » Performance").

cheers =)

I am having a hard time understanding how adding more processes(by running Process Lasso) to my already overloaded and rather slow system (XP SP3) can help me run it faster. Even if I achieve some success in speeding up my computer and bring it to the level it was before installing Process Lasso, all this still seems to me rather counterproductive.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance.

Processes aren't active just because they exist. In fact, they remain dormant 99.9% of the time (most of them). I can get into the Operating Systems fundamentals if you want, but does that answer your question?

Also, Lasso is written in native C++, so is super-efficient and lightweight. It even has a dedicated core engine, so you can kill the GUI completely.

Reply   |   Comment by Jeremy Collake  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12)

I would not like to sound impolite, but the author of the software has many, many times explained on this forum today that his software is not intended to make your computer faster and speed it up, but save the machine from glitches and hanging and to enable you to do other jobs while a programme performs an operation consuming a lot of computer resources (cf the case of Sony Vegas discussed here above). Just read the replies of Jeremy Collake and you’ll understand that your question may sound reasonable but not in the context of this particular GAOTD.

After my comment earlier taking Jeremy to task for his comment about Karl's review, I feel it's only fair that I add this:

Jeremy, I really appreciate that you are taking the time to read and respond to all the questions and comments. It inspires confidence that you will be responsive at other times as well.

Thanks Dan. I try. I am responsive because I live my software. Now, I'm sure there are exceptions - maybe I'm hit by a bus or something and away for a few days ;p.

I also try to be a good and professional representative, but it is difficult given how 'close' I am to the product. Perhaps one day the company will grow and there will be levels of abstraction. I'm not sure if that will be a good thing, or a bad thing. But then everyone can have professional responses, perfectly dictated and spun (if necessary) ;p.

"Perhaps one day the company will grow... I’m not sure if that will be a good thing, or a bad thing." A bad one. Definitely. Just look at well known software - those growing up have become irresponsible resources eaters (CPU resources incl.); others keep making things better - to name some besides PL - Total Commander, foobar2000, etc.

I've seen the responsiveness of Android and iOS smartphones and tablets slowdown over time. Perhaps a Process Lasso version for those operating systems would help.

(ending vendor comment)

Thanks for all your support.

I hope if you read my comments, you will understand that Lasso's ProBalance really does work to retain PC responsiveness during high loads. That means smother mouse movements, for instance. It will, however, NOT make your PC Faster.

It's hard to believe until you see it for yourself. I know. I wouldn't believe that claim either.

The worst part is most don't realize how much Lasso's ProBalance helped until they uninstalled.

It's always hard for me to face critics, but I appreciate their criticism. Remember, there are usually multiple levels of abstractions. Developers never see user comments.

The one thing I can guarantee you is this: I develop stuff that works. That has real utility. I will continue doing this just because it's what I do.

I hope that some people find utility in either Process Lasso's ProBalance algorithm, it's new SmartTrim, Gaming Mode, IdleSaver, or numerous automation features.

I guarantee you that it does not go around messing with system settings and doing whacky stuff, unless you told it to.

p.s. It is NOT a glorified Task Manager. Look deeper (my fault for making you do so).

In the past, have forgotten to undo the automatic update choice. This time, it won't allow default to just be never, always leaving one of the choices also checked. Help

On a regular basis, I overtax my computers. Although my main machine is a mid-level i7 with 8 gig RAM, I would cause it to become unresponsive every few days. Very few processes run in the background, but it is not unusual for me to have 30 browser windows open between two different browsers plus a few more apps open and idle. Process Lasso has eliminated my freeze-ups. No longer must I keep track of system responsiveness and back-off before running out of resources. ProLasso *somehow* does it in the background and without (resource) cost. I've used a half dozen similar utilities, and none have done this job so well.

I just checked to see what version I have on my computer and I see I have 7.641. I get the updates from my original download.
Is there any benefit to downloading this version??
I am not a techie that's why I am asking what is probably a silly question. I just wanted to be sure that there wasn't something here that I don't have.
Thanks
Lynne

You have the latest version.

The benefit is to buy lifetime updates now, if you don't already have them.

Before branching out into their own utilities, innovative tech will appear in Lasso first.

I got this software several years ago when it was offered on GOTD. It was terrific and exceptionally useful when one of the more intense programs I use regularly was hogging all the processor time. I could set that one program to a lower priority and it took longer but that was OK since I could do other things. I lost Process Lasso when I got a new computer and I am very happy to get it back. Just too cheap to buy it.

Found this here years ago. Purchased and have been using ever since along with AnVir Task Manager with x32 and x64 XP and W7 ultimate (some overlap in these products, but I feel I am in total control and easy of use with both). Thanks GiveAwayOfTheDay people and Happy New Year to all!

Here are two more things about this Process Lasso software:
1 - You get friendly, first class personal support for any issues.
2 - The DEAL for getting up to 5 PCs covered with updates forever is unbelievably good for $14.95 --- 5 PCs are covered forever!
