@43

We are sorry that Sothink DHTML Menu does not offer add-in for GoLive.

And you may try to insert menu manually into the existing web page instead!

Sorry for the inconvenience.

@23

The menu generated from Sothink DHTML Menu can display in a JavaScript disabled browser.

You can manually insert the codes which are generated by Search Engine Friendly Code Maker to HTML page, and the codes will behave like site map in the web page if the js files are disabled in the browser. The codes are to be inserted into the BODY tag, behind the menu code.

If the js files are enabled in the browser, the menu can be shown in the web page (the codes will not be shown); otherwise the codes will be shown as site map in the web page to navigate your web site.

You can also take the answer listed here for reference:
http://www.sothink.com/product/dhtmlmenu/faq.htm

Hope it helps.

Progam works (and looks great) but incorporate Javascript in every page I tried to produce. Since I was interested in producing Javascript free pages this was a disappointment.

DLed and installed this at the very last minute. When the GOTD "activated" webpage came in, I was already past the deadline,
but apparently the actual activation seconds earlier was just under the deadline, for the key-code and user-name took, and I seem not to be stuck with just the trial version :-) .

Seems like a very professionally crafted piece of work, with context-sensitive help and all. Set up (as Admin) in Vista, no apparent problem. Key-code and user-name to use are given you twice, once in the readme.txt file, and once in a dialogue box arising during the Setup operation before the program actually runs.

Looking forward to making some nice cascading/fly-out menus with this, so as to compactify some of my personal web pages. Thanks to the developers for offering this, and to GOTD for providing it.

Cheers, -- tlvp (always looking, rarely ta[l]king)

Do a search for Menu Builders and SoThink comes up so often! I had tried the trialware earlier on. Would have stuck to it, only, wasn't sure what would happen to the Menus and Pages I'd created...

I'm going to keep this one - Thanks GAOTD and SoThink - I think this is a best-of-breed program!

@25, You can do menus with CSS only but they wouldn't be DHTML, so to speak. I'd like to see them re-write this app to do CSS only menus .vs ones that require javascript, even if they use any one of the numerous JS libraries.

We use this at work for development, it integrated really easily in CS3 and imported fine into CS4 with no problems. Works well and the results usually look great everywhere.

Forgot to mention I think it's great program. One thing, though. In the age of AJAX are people still using the term DHTML? The last federal project I worked on, somebody brought that term up and was ridiculed by everyone in the room.

I've used this program for 5 years in my capacity as webmaster and designer. It is "best-in-class". Easy to use , highly configurable, good instructions, pretty clean code. I've always used their templates as a starting point and then customised from there. With this style of drop down menu easy updating and bringing in new links and changes is vital and DHTML Menu does that too.
People up to the mark designing their own websites will not have difficulty using the program - they can probably get a menu into a 20 page site in an hour or two. Less pages than that and you probably should consider a simpler form of navigation - so the personal use only limitation means that for most this will have pretty limited usefulness. Nevertheless a fine piece of software (really all of Sothink's stuff is pretty good and I have no affiliaation with them at all)!

Just a side note for those of you who use WindowBlinds & Vista. You will want to add this program to the exclusions list so that WindowBlinds doesn't try to skin it - else it will crash & you will lose any work you had.

@35 - Thanks for those links! Glimmer looks great, and for some reason I was unaware of all of the programs Coffee Cup had to offer. Now I'm going to have to gather up my nickles & dimes to buy some stuff. LOL

Addendum to my previous message. Apparently, Sothink uses Adobe's Extension manager and that's where the problem was. I finally got the extension manager to recognize Dreamweaver CS4, but I still cannot figure out how to add the Sothink plugin to GoLive, which is my WYSIWYG editor of choice. Looks like it would have to be used as a standalone, then the results somehow imported into GoLive. :::sigh:::

@35 => I use CofeeCup now. It's excellent, but with one big deficiency: you can't add a new menu or menu item anywhere but at the end. If you need to add a new item in the middle, or to reorder existing menus, you have to delete and recreate. Does today's giveaway solve that? If so, I will check it out.

The last plugin type software offered here by Sothink claimed to work with GoLive, but didn't...at least, there was no way to install it to GoLive. Nor would it install to Dreamwaver CS4.

DHTML Menu also claims to work with GoLive, but, again, there is no method of installation to GoLive [I use GoLive CS2]. Nor will it install to Dreamweaver CS4. It keeps telling me that I need Dreamweaver 3 or better [gee, I thought CS4 was "better"] and it says I must use Adobe Extension Manager CS3, but I only have Adobe Extension Manager CS4 which it refuses to use.

Thumbs down. Again.

If you do any kind of website coding or designing, then you have been waiting for this piece of software. I have been building websites for 10 years and have come across all kinds of programs that claim to be DHTML Menu builders, but nothing compares to the ease of use that this program gives you. Many top notch online businesses use this software and any web developer or designer should have this in their toolbox. Thanks SourceTec and thanks GAOTD for this awesome piece of software..

YES!!!

GREAT PROGRAM: an absolute MUST HAVE for web designers or ordinary people like me who run a website to create professional DHTML pop-up menu for web pages without writing a single line of code, meaning that it doesn't require the designer to have any DHTML or JavaScript experience....so perfect for "ignorant people" with little knowledge of web designing like me....LOL!!

A great feature of this tool is that the MENU created by this SW can automatically detect the visitors' browsertype and load the best script code for it, so the webdesigner could actually be free of caring the browser compatibility problems, not to mention that the webdesigner can even put the MENU to relative position or absolute position, so that it can be easily inserted at any place in the web page.

How cool is that?? LOL!!!

However the only downside of this little GEM is that you can only use this on a personal site that doesn’t make you money....but what happens if you use it on a commercial website??

How can the website's ownwer be caught and fined for that?

Does anybody know it?

There's two more free alternatives:

1) CoffeeCup's Free DHTML Menu Builder. Haven't tried it much, but looks good from the demos.
2) Menu option in Glimmer, which just came out last week. This one is quite easy to use and generates all the files for you. It uses the JQuery Javascript library.

I really like this software. Been using an old version for ages and to get the new version is good, it has loads more options. Seemed to update from the old verson Ok just by overwrititng it (had my fingers crossed!) and the menus I had already created seem to be working OK.

Nice one:)

I shouldn't be commenting as I have already been using this software for a few years so I don't need to download this giveaway, and therefore can't write the usual "activated and installed with no problem on Windows whatever". And everyone knows half the fun of commenting here is complaining how the GOTD won't activate or install on Windows whatever.

Anyway get this gotd while you can since dhtml was at one time poised to eradicate js but that never happened, instead it's a reliable and more compatible alternative. Anyone can build professional looking menus with this proggie without knowing a bit of code. If my mother could figure out how to open her laptop, even she could use this program, it's that simple.

It should be said that today’s GAOTD is not a program for users who have never made web sites from scratch before. I think anyone with some site building experience should be able to use it comfortably. I also believe that anyone interested in the academics of Java scripting or HTML will find this program beneficial because of the intensive tutorials at the developer’s web site.

The program comes with an extensive collection of template’s to help getting started, and any existing templates can be altered and saved as new templates. That’s a nice feature because you can build a personal library of preferred styles. Once you’re finished building the menus you want, you have to drop them into an existing site or web page. It’s at that point when this program shines; it builds the internal code and the external files needed for the menus to operate (including the HTML code needed for the HTML page you are designing). The program builds a series of JavaScript files then puts them in the same folder as the page or site. This program is very versatile; everything from menu transition speeds, to the text on the buttons, to rollovers, links, effects, styles, positioning, even border padding and spacing can be edited within the program. You can actually get away with not having multiple windows open just to get the job done.

@#12 Adrian – No, I do not like your review because you did not write it. Your “review” was actually written by Nick Mead, the editor at Softonic. You know I think it’s admirable for you to be interested in reviewing software and having your very own site to publish your reviews. However, you’re not going to be doing neither yourself or anyone else a service by stealing other peoples hard work then calling it your own. There is word for that, and that word is “Plagiarism”! It’s also a violation of something called “Copyright” and authors do not take too kindly to those people who have violated their rights. I would HIGHLY recommend that in the future you cite your sources of information when you’re publishing them verbatim. If you check out this link, I believe you’ll see that your “review” is verbatim to his. Have a Nice Day

* Supports creation of horizontal and vertical menus.
* Supports creation of dynamic database driven menus.
* Gives you full control over your menu and its contents.
* Comes with many very nice predefined templates that you can use (or you can start from "scratch").
* You can preview your menu in a web browser before publishing.
* Provides you with directions on how to place the menu on your website.
* Has plugins for FrontPage, Dreamwaver, and Expression Web.
* Has extra tools such as sitemap generator, Google XML generator, etc.
* Excellent help section and tutorials.

The Bad
